"I'm not I'm not upset and I'm not arguing. You are not letting me make an argument. I'm not red in the face, ma'am. I'm not...."

Things escalate quickly about 10 minutes into this viral video:

At 14:40, the lawyer suddenly, puzzlingly announces "I'm a transgender attorney," and later, mid-arrest, the lawyer, apparently a transman, demands, "Get a female officer now. Get a female officer now. Get a female officer now."

But the trans aspect is the least of what is going on here. It's almost too awful to post, but I'm posting it because it's getting a lot of attention elsewhere — with only part of it clipped out — on TikTok and X and with many comments focusing on the trans angle. The problem with this attorney has more to do with interrupting and abusing the judge and, fatefully, throwing the phone and pen on the floor — or, if this is what you see — attempting to put the phone and pen down and missing.

It sounded like the absent plaintiff (?) did not appear in the court because of an outstanding warrant in that county, Is there some rule that didn't allow the prosecutor to bring this up? Because it sounded like the trans lawyer was trying to finagle a telephone call for the plaintiff (?) to call in, rather than have her appear. The prosecutor managed to get in the note about the warrant by yelling over the trans lawyer, which might clarify a lot about this scene: Maybe the trans lawyer was attempting some fancy legal / borderline-unethical footwork, and the county didn't like it.

And the phone didn't 'fall off the desk', she dropped it well short of ever reaching the desk.

Now that I'm watching the longer video, I can see the judge was more patient that I earlier observed.

Big Mike said...

It’s a point I’ve raised before —.men who transition to female do not become women, they become what they think it’s like to be a women. The simplest way to understand this video is that the woman who transitioned to male thinks men are much more aggressive and thus get away with being abusive towards women. The female judge is, correctly, not having it. While it is unfortunate that the judge displayed anger, the provocation seems extreme.

I note that Instapundit links to a version of this episode that blames the trans attorney taking testosterone. While testosterone is a powerful hormone credited with making post-pubescent males (i.e., teenaged boys) do unbelievably stupid things, we don’t know that this attorney is, in fact, taking hormone therapy.

CJinPA said...

And...from this angle, the attorney clearly tossed the phone to the ground.

I am skeptical of this AI response. However, I am very cynical regarding the results reporting from gender affirming care clinics.

Based on current studies, there is no evidence that the low-estrogen, high-testosterone profile in trans men on gender-affirming hormone therapy (GAHT) directly causes psychosis. While high testosterone can cause increased irritability, aggression, or mood shifts, these behavioral changes are distinct from psychotic behavior.

Key information on hormone levels and mental health in trans men:
No Established Link to Psychosis: Specialized gender clinics have not reported a substantially increased risk of psychosis among transgender individuals undergoing hormone treatment.
Testosterone and Aggression: Some studies suggest that high testosterone levels, or rapid fluctuations, can increase aggression. However, this is distinct from psychosis, and many transgender men report improved mood, self-esteem, and decreased anxiety/depression with testosterone therapy.
Estrogen and Protection: While estrogen is sometimes associated with protective effects against psychosis, reducing estrogen through therapy does not inherently trigger psychiatric, specifically psychotic, disorders.
Mental Health Improvements: Research has found better mental health outcomes, lower levels of suicide ideation, and less depression in transgender people who have accessed hormone treatment.

Watching this video reminds me of something I was taught in legal ethics class by Wade McCree, who had been Solicitor General under Jimmy Carter. On the subject of zealous representation, he advised us, “Always take care that it is your client who goes to jail.”

I don’t really understand the hearing, on the one hand, the lawyer seems to be asking for a ruling on visitation, on the other hand, the lawyer is arguing that the court lacks jurisdiction.

LBotC, I think that's why the judge was frustrated. The argument was convoluted. If it was noticed up as a hearing to determine disputed facts to determine whether the court had jurisdiction then obviously she should have appeared. Seems to me the affidavit created the factual issue but it's not enough to win after the other side contested its truth. TransEsq should have explained he needed a ruling on jurisdiction first, taken the offered pause, regrouped, and brought his client back for testimony. Opposing counsel was also an asshole, but that's routine, and he exploited/helped create the shit show to the benefit of his client.

- The security took so long because the smaller balliff did almost nothing. he should have gotten on the other side of the lawyer and grabbed an arm at the same time as the bigger cop. Instead he did very little. Also bad: 2-3 guards arrive on the scene after 2 minutes. Why not wait to subdue him until the others arrive?

I see a lady judge who has lost control of her courtroom and is confused over whether she is going to allow testimony over the phone that day, or wait for a domestic abuse accommodation form, who has apparently continued the case without without addressing the merits of the issue at hand: does this county have jurisdiction over the child or not?

The man's local attorney team knows the lady judge. The lady courtroom reporter has her biases too. I suspect the trans male attorney in the state was well known by all parties after the earlier phone call...

I see smirks on the faces of the whole courtroom when the male deputies violently assault the trans male attorney whom had not been told he was going to be arrested.

The silly lady judge played scared for show... she saw smirks on the trans man, an angry red face, and alleged the trans male attorney was unhinged merely for aggressively pleading for his client to appear by phone that day. I think the lady judge immediately regretted her order to get the client on the phone, then alleged a phone was thrown at her and decided the lady in red being threated was a good way change her mind to teach the trans attorney his place, and thus called in the local muscle to really rough the trans male attorney up...

And vice versa. They are always bad at it.

It's reminiscent of the Leona Helmsley types who go from poverty to great wealth and think that rich people are required to act like Scrooge McDuck, temporarily-rich rappers, or the cartoonish villains of Hollywood. A large lavish house with frequent renovations, a very expensive new car every year or two, designer everything with the logo prominently displayed, beastly behavior towards underlings and poor people, and frequent bragging about their wealth. In reality, old-money types often live in very old family homes of genteel shabbiness, drive the same car for decades, treat the hired help like family, and are enormously generous to charity, but often anonymously. If you meet someone who drives a well-maintained 1968 Land Rover he inherited from his grandfather, wears a threadbare but well-made oilskin coat, treats every person he meets exactly the same, has a vague job description like "looking after the family business" that seems not to demand much time of him, and never ever discusses money, you're quite likely talking to someone from a family that has been rich for a hundred years or more.

People who have never been around that kind of wealth would never pick up on the subtle signals, just as a "man" who is actually a woman and has never been in a fistfight would miss the unspoken signals that "he's" about to get some teeth knocked out if "he" doesn't quit running "his" mouth.

The lawyer was a bully.
There are 2 kinds of bullies. One bullies from a position of strength, the other from a position of weakness. This guy was the latter. The weak bully MO is to play the victim and make it seem like the actual victim is the one doing the bullying. These types have no shame and use the victim's basic decency and their desire not to feel shame against them. It's very devious and contemptible.
Both types get their way by always being ready to escalate one step further than the victim wants to have to deal with. But at some point, if you don't want to be bullied, you have to set a limit and make it stick. Usually it's unpleasant in the short term, but better in the long term to hold the line against a bully.
Personally, I enjoyed the dramatic screeching from the lawyer. He inspired zero sympathy in me. You'd have to have a heart of stone not to laugh.

This video is a visual aid in understanding what they call in psychiatry the oppositional defiant disorder (ODD), a core behavior pattern in many autistic persons. This creature was doing it to his mommy growing up, throwing a tantrum when it didn't get what it wanted, the mommy, like Michele Singer Reiner, was forced to give in, Reiner even instructed the house staff to give it what it wants to placate her damaged offspring in order to keep the peace as per news articles. This particular "lawyer" thinks the judge is his mommy, their toddler brains do not develop beyond that point. They throw a tantrum just to get their way, because they can't take the word NO for an answer and they MUST win. It's a bullying, coercive control tactic that defines the large amount of autistic households. There is no amount of psych meds, therapy, love and acceptance that will correct the way these unfortunate but frightening creatures perceive themselves and the reality. This conduct is the result of their many cognitive impairments. To sum it up the "lawyer" doesn't get it the way a toddler doesn't get it.
