It seems that she is imagining persons of color who have suffered from violent law enforcement for many decades and who might be hurt to see extreme grief over the death of a white woman. Most people don't even know what the Temperance Movement was and they certainly wouldn't be able to see the parallels to how women are acting today.

The "in need of instruction" part is more tenuous, and I think would depend on who was asking the questions - have a black conservative hold the mic and I suspect - based on the behavior of others who share her political persuasion - she might find it incumbent on herself to do the instructing.
Christianity would be so helpful here - a framework that allows you - almost compels you - to "understand yourself" as a sinner who, like every single other person you will ever encounter, falls short of the glory of God. Both personal humility and collective imperfection.

I think the 70's were the least racist decade, at least where I grew up. Race was mostly ignored. I grew up in a small town in PA that was 98% white. Our family had black friends who had the same jobs my parents did. We did sleep overs and went on trips together. We probably only had a dozen black kids in the 1000 person graduating class, and one was the Homecoming Queen I never heard the N-word, although my parents called them "colored" including with them there, and I think that's what they called themselves at the time. I never heard anyone make fun of them, except the gay one. They were not excluded in any way. They had normal circles of white friends like anyone else. Race actually seemed irrelevant for a time.
Today it permeates and steps on everything. It's like a narcissistic bully.

That's pure ignorance on your part professor. Dr Sam Richards (who teaches a very popular sociology class at Penn State) has many of his lectures available on You Tube. He did a statistical breakdown on supposed police (actually all law enforcement officers) violence using 2016 data from the DOJ (the latest data he had at the time of his lecture.) The class can be seen at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GkNRhrZTksA and there are other lectures on culture that are also interesting and counter to common assumptions in his series . His findings on police violence, with documentation (all from 2016):
- There were 0.95 MM LE officers, approximately 39 MM blacks and around 150 MM whites in 2016.
- 963 people were killed by police in 2016 (465 white, 233 black, and the rest Hispanic, Asian or unknown.)
- Of those killed 517 were armed with a gun, 150 with a knife, 65 were in a vehicle and 48 were apparently unarmed.
- Of the 233 blacks killed only 22 were apparently unarmed.
- 89 LE were intentionally killed, 67 by a gunshot and 12 by assault with a vehicle. LE killers were 52% white and 44% black, so about 40 LE officers were killed by blacks.
- The probability of one of the 22 unarmed blacks being killed by a LEO was 0.6 in 1 mil. The probability of a LE officer being killed intentionally in the LOD by a black was about 2.4 in a mil. The bottom line is a LEO is much more likely to be killed by a black than a black by an LEO, ergo, the BS that cops have it out for blacks is just factually wrong and proven by recent DOJ statistics. Furthermore, the probability of the LEO being killed by vehicle was about 1.25 in a mil, so the threat of vehicles to ICE is not trivial and should be taken seriously and responded to with force.
