I have no idea who this man is, I don't find his delivery confidence-inspiring, and I haven't watched the CBS Evening News since the days of its famously confidence-inspiring figurehead Walter Cronkite."On too many stories, the press has missed the story. Because we've taken into account the perspective of advocates and not the average American. Or we put too much weight in the analysis of academics or elites, and not enough on you."
— CBS Evening News (@CBSEveningNews) January 1, 2026
That changes now. The new CBS Evening News… pic.twitter.com/NKdvRJjYCS
I guess this clip, which appeared at the top of my "For you" feed at X, is supposed to make me believe that change is afoot at CBS. I'm not going to start watching the show to find out. I'll be seeing — and blogging — video clips as they appear on websites I read.
In the middle of writing this post, I went back to X and there was another CBS post at the top of my "For you" feed. This one's from CBS News — the other was from CBS Evening News — and this time I'm given the man's name:
So it's Tony Dokoupil. Okay. Good luck to him. I see I blogged about him on December 10th when he was named the new anchor. He was distinguished by having confronted Ta-Nehisi Coates with nonsoftball questions. (You can see video of him questioning Coates here.) "I report for you."
— CBS News (@CBSNews) January 1, 2026
The new CBS Evening News launches on Monday and our new anchor, Tony Dokoupil, is making a promise to viewers: "You come first. Not advertisers. Not politicians. Not corporate interests."
From now on, what you see and hear on the news will reflect what you… pic.twitter.com/WMAjnRI1wv
At the time, CBS rebuked Dokoupil, and Bari Weiss's Free Press published audio recordings of the meeting. Bari Weiss now runs CBS News, so Dokoupil's new position matters a lot.
Reading that history is confidence-inspiring, but it's one more reason to prefer reading the news. Those video clips of Dokoupil asserting that CBS News would be different left me cold.

The wave of fraud stories on X is epic. And of course it all comes down to Obama. He wasn't proud enough of the 2008 mortgage crisis. He implemented the asylum system the Somalis used to come here.
Hopefully the federal government does not survive this.
He's reflexively pro Israel, ann.
You'll likely like -- and share -- the clips you feed feeds you...
The big problem this fraud story makes for the Dem/lefty establishment is that Americans are kind of OK with giving money to poor people, but they are definitely not OK with government money being stolen or grifted away. It is turning out that as much as 50% of gov. spending goes to fraud, so cutting spending is going to be politically mandatory.
The man clearly states his name at the end of the first clip.I know who he is.
I'll be a bit more generous than Ann- something about trusting but verifying.
There is an adage about the path to righteousness being in getting bad people to do good things.
It's a new year.
The dipshits who were wanting to vote to extend the very expensive and unnecessary Obamacare subsidies to rich people are going to be hiding out in a bunker.
Sounds like he's anti trans too, so you'll especially appreciate the pseudo everyday American pitch...
Who needs those professors, experts, activists, progressives, and elites... Ammirite? Say, have you tried chewing tobacco yet? They sell it in flavored pouches for the ladies now, even... 😉
MSM is in its death throes. It can’t die fast enough.
Good. My 92 year-old, gone-off-the-deep-end lefty mother, watches CBS News (she also watches MSNBC all day long). Maybe this will moderate her a bit.
Although I won't believe that CBS will change until I see it. And since I don't watch it, I won't see it, I guess. (I did watch it for a week following the Trump/Biden debate, just to see what the MSM was saying, and boy oh boy! I was taken aback.)
Trump has never been much of a spending hawk. He barely fought to keep spending at present levels.
If they aren't deporting Somalis and other "asylum" fraudsters before Novemeber 2026 there will be a revolt. Both parties are protecting this.
"The big problem this fraud story makes for the Dem/lefty establishment is that Americans are kind of OK with giving money to poor people, but they are definitely not OK with government money being stolen or grifted away."
As cynical as I am, I am still disappointed that the outrage from the left isn't over stolen money to the poor, it's their precious politicians look bad. It's tribal, and that's sad.
They got caught so they pretend outrage
They're trying to trick people into watching CBS News again.
CBS News was anchored by Dan Rather. He was fired for using fake, self-typed up memos to try to rig the 2004 Presidential Election for John Kerry.
He almost got away with it, except for those pesky bloggers sitting around in their mom's basement wearing their pajamas. You know, like Nick Shirley - who scooped CBS News with his accounts of fake child care centers run by imported hood rats from Somalia stealing literally billions of dollars of American taxpayer dollars that could have gone to feeding and housing wounded war veterans but instead was sent off to the al Shabaab Muslim terrorist organization in Somalia.
CBS News frequently misses the story because they're taking into account how badly this story will hurt Kamala Harris. Or whichever fucking idiot they have running as the Democrat candidate.
CBS News isn't news. They're fucking frauds.
But they aren't the problem. There have always been fraudulent "news" organizations. However this one is officially licensed by Donald J. Trump to operate on American airwaves. They receive extremely valuable spectrum that is owned by the American people so they can operate broadcast networks inside the United States. These spectrum are worth BILLIONS OF DOLLARS ... but CBS gets them free, thanks to Trump's FCC.
Donald Trump is the problem.
The summary paragraph is absolutely correct IMO. That’s a good start. If CBS reporting lives up to the spirit of the sentiment he voices then we will all be better off. Good night and good luck.
I subscribe to Bari’s Substack and the only current active sub right now, although I’ll toss some $$ at Taibbi or Shellenberger from time to time.
I personally find Bari a little bit annoying, like maybe she’s trying to hard, but I admire what she has done with the Free Press. I don’t really expect a whole lot to change at CBS as far as being some huge counterbalance to the other networks but I think she’ll get things a bit more moderate. I plan to jump in as I don’t really consider Fox News as really news, at least compared to what I can come across elsewhere and welcome something else to watch, so long as my intelligence isn’t insulted. Best of luck to Bari, though.
This video starts on CBS news reporting today.
Fuck these people. They need to be deported with the Somalis they are protecting and fighting for and giving our tax money.
"I'll be a bit more generous than Ann- something about trusting but verifying."
I don't waste my time watching news on TV. I read the news and there I read skeptically. People tell me I should just reject it altogether. I don't. But I do reject TV news altogether. I haven't watched in decades and I just have no need for it in my life. I don't have time for it. If you already know the stories in the news, what's the point in seeing how the network decided to sum it up at the end of the day? But even if it is new stuff, it is too slow, too low level. I read the news and I skim and skip around a lot. It's much faster and more active. And easier to blog.
Boy, if Trump can fix the MSM he belongs on Mt. Olympus, not just Mt. Rushmore.
Those video clips of Dokoupil asserting that CBS News would be different left me cold.
Of course they leave you cold. In 11 days you will be 75 years old. You are an elderly biddy who does not like change. I get it.
Here's the story CBS News "missed."
Grok: "There are multiple reports and allegations that US tax dollars—stolen through massive welfare and social service fraud schemes in Minnesota—have flowed to Al-Shabaab, effectively making American taxpayers an unwitting funding source for the terrorist group."
"These claims stem primarily from investigations into programs like Medicaid, housing assistance, child nutrition (e.g., Feeding Our Future), and child care subsidies, where billions in federal funds were allegedly defrauded, with portions wired overseas to Somalia via informal hawala networks, where Al-Shabaab reportedly takes a cut regardless of intent."
The hood rats stealing our tax dollars to fund international Muslim terrorism aren't even running away. They're now faking burglaries and alleging evidence has been stolen to try to cover up their crimes.
They know they're going to get away with it. They are not scared of US prosecutors or US prisons because George Soros has already bought US prosecutors and ordered them not to prosecute terrorist black people.
CBS is lamenting the gate they used to keep and they're trying to close it again.
"Boy, if Trump can fix the MSM he belongs on Mt. Olympus, not just Mt. Rushmore."
Release the Kracken!
Trust but verify
The mainstream media falling down on the job has a lot to do with the Minnesota scams.
Here is clip exposing what happens when stories are not reported, or 'covered with a pillow until they stop moving'. As a result minds and hearts are corrupted. Link to Video
It is all so much of the same carefully crafted language, manipulation of the definitions of words to imply what they want them to mean. None of the mea culpa we would need like our organization has a long and shameful history of left wing bias, fraud and propaganda and when correctly accused of it our reaction was reprehensible. Even taken at face value I hear only a commitment to consider the reactions of their political opponents to their propaganda, not the necessary rejection of propaganda itself. No commitment to expose the stories according to their magnitude and importance, like the current widespread federal dollars fraud, or the connection to voter fraud…or the recently exposed voter fraud and election interference of the Biden election. ‘We were dead wrong and we’re sorry’ will never be uttered.
No, this is Lucy convincing Mr. Brown to kick the football come the next propaganda cycle…
They are doing their job 'from a certaij point of view'
People tell me I should just reject it altogether. I don't.
You should…
"If you already know the stories in the news, what's the point in seeing how the network decided to sum it up at the end of the day?
Let me explain to you what the point is: Because WE are paying for it, Ann.
It's OUR spectrum that CBS News is being licensed to operate in the United States. We, The People, own that very valuable spectrum and it's been GIVEN FOR FREE to CBS News to operate a fraudulent "news" organization inside the United States. A network which is routinely being used to falsify the news and to rig our Presidential elections in favor of a bunch of fucking criminals.
We are goddamn sick and tired of it.
That's why it's important to watch CBS News.
More like Tony Dookpile, amirite?
O Mike @ 9:19, I don’t think you quite get it. Don’t conflate defending the rule of law with defending politicians.
People on the left are angry about stolen money from programs meant for the poor — that’s why the cases were investigated, prosecuted, and why sentences and restitution are being sought. Fraud isn’t being excused or minimized.
What many of us are pushing back on is the leap from prosecuting fraud to collective blame, ethnic targeting, and unconstitutional punishments.
You can be furious about stolen money and reject calls to strip citizenship or deport people based on identity or innuendo.
Those positions aren’t in conflict.
If outrage were really about protecting politicians, you’d see resistance to prosecutions. Instead, you’re seeing resistance to turning a criminal case into a permanent grievance narrative.
That distinction matters.
Another example of the system of checks and balances working. And yet many still cannot give up hysterical catastrophizing.
Becalm yourself instead of beclown yourself through cultural appropriation:
Baba Ramdev teaches several deep breathing exercises (Pranayama) like Bhastrika, Kapalbhati, Anulom Vilom, Ujjayi, Brahmari, and Bahya Pranayama, focusing on energizing the body, clearing lungs, reducing stress, improving digestion, and balancing energy through controlled inhales, exhales, and breath retention (Kumbhaka) often with energy locks (Bandhas). These techniques aim to enhance oxygen intake, detoxify, calm the mind, and improve overall vitality, with practices ranging from forceful bellows breaths (Bhastrika) to gentle alternate nostril breathing (Anulom Vilom).
I watched the first clip, and it gave me a kernel of confidence. I may give CBS Evening News a try. It is on the same channel as Wheel of Fortune, which I watch at 7 pm. I remember that saga when Dokoupil confronted Coates (who is quite the hater). It's doubtful my trust in CBS News will increase, but we'll see.
Look who’s the Fool on the Hill.
"...I don't waste my time watching news on TV..."
I don't waste my time watching TV, period. The most healthy thing I'm seeing here is that most of the commenters are so sick and tired of the Legacy Media's bullsh*t that they are no longer willing to take any pronouncement at face value. Good.
FLC, like a few others here, seems like a frustrated would-be politician to me.
I'll ask what a drunken friend of mine once asked of a black security guard at Krystal (a.k.a. White Castle) at 230am--"Why aren't you out organizing your people?"
Pull my finger, Howie. Now inhale.
Leftists cultists in pure hate CBS mode. right on Q
Actual journalism, and not hack advocacy for the corrupt democratic party.. = How dare you. heretiks!
Jack Smith - Hack"
"Jack Smith just torched what was left of his own January 6 investigation. The former special counsel sat down for an over eight-hour deposition with the House Judiciary Committee on December 17, 2025, and when the transcript was released to the public on Wednesday, it contained a stunning admission. It turns out that the former special counsel admitted under oath that Cassidy Hutchinson, the committee's star witness, relied on secondhand hearsay instead of firsthand evidence when she testified about Trump's conduct after the 2020 election."
That song doesn't mean what you think it means, Iman.
"The Five Ws is a checklist used in journalism to ensure that the lead contains all the essential points of a story. As far back as 1913, reporters were taught that the lead should answer these questions about the situation being reported"
1st "W" is Who.
This is what happens when the pitchforks are getting sharpened.
Who exactly is sharpening the pitchforks? Usually, this means the people are rising up against the rich and powerful. Trump is empowering the already rich and famous. Having U.S. media overtaken by the likes of Bezos, the Ellisons, and Musk (who have been kissing Trump's ass since he was re-elected) is hardly sharpening the pitchforks. It is more like the pitchforks are being confiscated.
At this rate of goalpost movement, RJ Ward will be ultraMAGA by the end of the month.
Has anyone seen Bari’s CBS News use the term illegal immigrant instead of the other organizations term flowery language flowery language legal because they haven’t committed other crimes except illegal immigration therefore our party wants them to stay?
I agree with Ann at 933.
Some follow the teachings of Stara Baba.
[Hutchinson] relied on secondhand hearsay instead of firsthand evidence when she testified about Trump's conduct after the 2020 election
And your point is? We already knew that. Regardless, hearsay is subject to many exceptions that allows it to be admitted in a criminal trial. And the rules are looser for investigation purposes.
"On too many stories, the press has missed the story. Because we've taken into account the perspective of advocates and not the average American. Or we put too much weight in the analysis of academics or elites, and not enough on you."
That's not a mea culpa. That's bullshit. That's not what they've been doing. What they did was fully embrace the role of propagandists and activists for a corrupt, entrenched political machine. And they openly advocated for censorship of alternative sources of information. They covered up election fraud.
This guy thinks he can get in front of the camera and con us all again by talking about his mother and her neighbors. Snort. Wake up, Tony. You're dreaming. You're one of the bad guys. As anchor you'll make a shit pile of money. That's what you care about. So go fuck yourself.
Has anyone seen Bari’s CBS News use the term illegal immigrant
Good for CBS. The term "illegal immigrant" is incorrect no matter how much it is used to refer to people in this country without proper authorization.
Bob Boyd delivers the actual story worth understanding. ^^^
"I haven't watched the CBS Evening News since the days of its famously confidence-inspiring figurehead Walter Cronkite."
And it turned out the confidence was misplaced.
Being influenced by confidence-inspiring delivery is, quite frankly, stupid. Ever heard the phrase con man or con job? The "con" is short for confidence. The entire skill set of the grifter, the fraudster, the swindler consists of having and exploiting a confidence-inspiring delivery.
Wisely invested confidence in news coverage consists entirely of content. A truth spoken by a cross-eyed, lisping, stammerer is infinitely more valuable than a rumor, half-truth, or damning lie spoken by a cum laude graduate of the Walter Cronkite School of Confidence Inspiring.
Fredo kicks off 2026 holding a shovel.
Some things never change…
No figure important to the Somali community has emerged calling for reform. So it is a community-wide issue. As for the CBS story, nothing can be clearer than that when a major news network calls anywhere and says it's coming, you get a dog and pony show. "All is well," (says the spokesman, wearing a heavy coat and cap inside the day care center. The women don't speak - been here thirty years and don't know the language?) Nick Shirley and others show what ordinary people see on a daily basis -"Go away!", "You don't belong here!", threats. CBS undercover - what would it find? Too much? I'm sure Bari Weiss is as sincere a leftist as you will ever find. But she's presiding over a barrel with a lot of bad apples aka DEI, anti-semites, progressives.
yeah - Bob Boyd is right.
I don't waste my time watching news on TV. I read the news and there I read skeptically.
I second that emotion.
remember - alphabet news organizations (Hack/ propaganda/ Democratic-Soviet) are trying to get the D-base cultists to stay on board as viewers. That's why the snake oil sounds like it does.
I still hope real non-partisan news can flow again. (again?)
tho - my hope is not optimistic.
Some things never change…
He's not dumb. He's smart, and he wants respect.
"As Thomas Sowell has pointed out, it’s a mistake to judge a law or program by the stated good intentions of its creators. You have to judge it by the incentives it creates."
I used to think liberals didn't understand the concept of incentives, but I completely misunderstood the matter. They understand incentives just fine; the incentives are to keep themselves in power by graft.
"On too many stories, the press has missed the story. Because we've taken into account the perspective of advocates and not the average American. Or we put too much weight in the analysis of academics or elites, and not enough on you."
This leaves me cold because the issue is not whose perspective is "taken into account." It's about being full-on propagandists for Democrats and the deep state.
And it's patronizing. I don't need my perspective taken into account. I want honesty. I don't want to be lied to, or to have entire stories smothered. It's not so complicated.

And how!
I don’t watch network news because I don’t own a television.

They're coming for the academics, ann.
Lol. Got your guns ready, or will you plead ignorance and hide behind the hubby? Your stock has fallen and perhaps ignorance is your best defense?
Ronald J. Ward said...
"What many of us are pushing back on is the leap from prosecuting fraud to collective blame, ethnic targeting, and unconstitutional punishments."
Unfortunately, the fraud arises from deep seated beliefs in those very tribal communities. They think it's not just ok, but demanded that they steal from us.
Is it "Collective Blame" and "Ethnic Targeting?" If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck, maybe it IS a duck.
I just love these ad hominen attacks. They advance the topic so well.
As on everything, I am cautiously optimistic.
Of course, I'll probably never know, as I don't watch TV news. I get all my news from Althouse Blog.
We have immigration laws. Biden broke them.
Fredo, if Jack Smith had a witness who said she knew someone who said you admitted to being a pedophile, would it be proper procedure to indict you for pedophilia?
"This leaves me cold because the issue is not whose perspective is "taken into account.""
You're exactly right. "Journalists" seem incapable of dropping the editorializing. I think because just reporting the news doesn't stroke their egos enough.
When he talks about the more recent complaints of non-coverage he's gotten, he mentions "the president's fitness for office". I assume he means Biden, but I know for a fact that there are people out there who will be just as sure he means Trump.
He's not dumb. He's smart, and he wants respect.
At least refer to the correct film. You are pretty dense if you are confusing Fredo Corleone and Freder Frederson.
Confidence inspiring Walter Cronkite?
Well, yeah, he was. But mainly because when he said "And that's the way it is." That was not necessariy the way it was but, with 3 networks, all allegedly coordinated (and, allegedly, still coordinated) by the CIA, it might as well have been the way it was because we had no way of knowing any different.
"Uncle Walter" was no better than anyone else in the MSM. He just faked it better.
To paraphrase "If you can fake confidence, that is even better than the real thing"
I don't think I even get CBS-NBC-ABC-FOX in my cable package. I never watch TV but my wife does flipping constantly between the local Spanish stations, (big fan of those hunky guys on Exatlon), MS-NOW, CNN and QVC. I often sit in the living room working on my laptop or reading so I am exposed but seldom pay attention. When something does catch my ear, I'll listen for a minute or two then wonder how I got sucked in.
Screw MSM-news, programming, ads and all.

I'm in the "trust but verify" crowd. I stopped watching our local TV affiliates (Nexstar) when it became clear that they were solidly partisan, but I'll give CBS Evening News a try for a bit. We'll see how it plays out .
Ann, some of us aren't reassured by your assertion that you never watch the TV news, when it's clear that your in-depth reading of the news has accumulated decades of the wisdom of the NY Times and Washington Post.
Bari Weiss made this guy the anchor of CBS EVening news because he called Tennessee Coats an Antisemite. When Coats was doing his usual "white people are evil racists" shtik, Weiss didn't care. When Tennnesee Coats went after Israel - well, that's different.
Dear grok,
Do I read skeptically or swallow reflexively? Please tell me the answer I want to hear or i will spend all day feeding you prompts until I get it.
Signed,
Ann Althouse, professor emeritus at the reputation-fallen University of Wisconsin, where we're not even a football moo u anymore, like back in my good old days...
Lol, you don't see it, huh? For decades you participated, ann. Own your role? Hit the ta nahisi Coates or Obama tags you've curated and show us where this alleged skepticism began?
Saying it in a pretty voice just doesn't make it true...
Tennessee coates was obviously a fraud and a hater but he wasnt laughed off the stage a decade ago
What is the purpose of CBS News? I don't even know. At least with the Minneapolis Star Tribune you know exactly why they exist: to protect the DFL (Democratic party) and report the sports scores. I trust them to do both.
Fredo, if Jack Smith had a witness who said she knew someone who said you admitted to being a pedophile, would it be proper procedure to indict you for pedophilia?
You seem to have hearsay and perjury confused. If I did indeed admit to a third party such a heinous crime, it might indeed be covered by the "statement against interest" exception to hearsay.
I seem to recall, from back when Glenn Beck was still on the tube, that he suggested mailing pitchforks to washington. Apparently, you can just slap a label on the handle and the Post Office will accept it as Parcel Post rates.
I mention Beck because on his set he had a bunch of pitch forks in the corner and he was the one suggested we mail pitchforks to our congressfolk.
John Henry
Larry Ellison bought tik-tok because Netenyahu said it was "anti-Israel". Zionists were shocked at the Pro-Palestinian videos. Which were allowed because the Chinese owners don't give a crap about Palestine or Israel.
He then gotta hold of CBS and appointed Weiss to head it. Again, like a lot of Jewish woman Weiss is a hard core zionists, and Jewish advocate. Unlike white women they're motived by more than class snobism.
Weiss will pull back the Leftist "hate whitey" propaganda, and be more "Conservative" but the main point will be to push Israel. She's Miriam Addelson with a Journalist degree.
And again, get the fucking movie right. This is getting annoying.
I hated Network news as far back as the early 80s, when you had to watch it - there was nothing else. It annoyed me that the 3 networks always had on the same stories and reported from the same POV. CBS was always a little more leftwing than everyone else. But the differences were minor.
Of course, I didn't understand why. Later I learned they were all reading the NYTs/WaPO/WSJ and just following those papers lead.
Why waste your time watching TV network news? Just read the NYT's or the WaPo - its the same thing.
Sure, Fredo, it might be perjury but it is also hearsay. Also, the exception of statement against interest wouldn't have apply to your claimed statement but to the third party's statement which I don't see any way to claim it would be against his interest.
The problem really is the media. I believe most people support helping the poor. But the media, in bed with the democrat politicians, feed the narrative that it's only the democrats who have the poor's best interests at heart. And the majority of the populace believes what they're told.
"I don't watch network news" is a fucking cop-out.
It's a way of burying your head in the sand, or putting your hands up to your ears and going "blah blah blah" to shut the voices coming from the television out.
It's cowardly.
We should all be watching these rat fuckers very, very carefully and taking good notes about how they are manipulating the masses ... because it's not you or me they're trying to convince.
We come to this blog and essentially write it FOR Ann. She posts some copy-pasted stuff ... but the real writing on this blog doesn't occur in the post. It occurs here. In the comments.
CBS News isn't trying to convince us of anything because we are intelligent, articulate people unaffected by their simple propaganda. But most Americans aren't like us. They aren't intelligent. They are cows. Many have the IQ of a snail. And we let them vote.
So we have an obligation as the intelligent people in our communities to let others know of the charlatans among us.
CBS News is DANGEROUS. And it's up to us to watch these rats like fucking hawks. If I ever ran across one of them in public - doing a live remote or something - they'd have a real story to cover.
Bob Boyd, +1
I used to subscribe to The Free Press but I became less enamored of it than Phaedrus.
Weiss correctly understands shilling for the Democrat brand has dragged under their media adjuncts. Her solution to that is basically stuff the crazies back in attic. That in no way indicates that she is going to treat political stories even-handedly and the way the corruption story involving the gubernatorial administration of the former Democrat VP candidate is being handled indicates that.
Regarding Trump and Bandwith. FCC is in charge of that, not the President. And all five commissioners have to be confirmed by the Senate. And guess what? The Senate GOP has ZERO desire to hurt CBS in any way. Follow the money.
Dokoupil distinguished himself by confronting Ta-Nehisi Coates about Israel. I need more points of information before I can figure out how much he can or will do.
There was a news story last week about a Somali fraudster carrying a billion dollars in cash through the airport in a suitcase.
Are all journalists like Monica "she'll swallow anything" Lewinski? When I saw that it sounded fishy so I asked Grok how much cubic volume $1B in $100 bills would take.
Answer, 400 cubic feet, 10'X10'X4'. That is a pretty impressive suitcase.
Don't journalists use their common sense? Or do they just not have any?
John Henry
Cronkite's confidence-inspiring delivery didn't come naturally. It was his craft -- a well-studied skill employed all too often to deceive. Cronkite started as a reporter, but finished as a "anchor man". And what, pray tell is an anchor man? He's a combination of an actor, an theatrical impresario, and a writer of lurid penny dreadfuls. His job is to take bald and boring facts, if available, and make them more exciting. If not available, the anchor's job is to wing it, regardless of any afront to honesty inflicted on the way to the all-important book. The whole anchor man (anchor-babe more often nowadays) boils down to a performance aimed at Prince Mini-brain.
We'll see if Ms. Weiss can restore my confidence.
We're all well aware of what movie we're quoting, Fredo. That's the point.
Its amazing how many GOPers want to blame Trump - as if he's King and can do anything. The GOP Senate lead by Thune is sabotaging him. Just like they sabotaged him in his 1st term under Mitch the Bitch. Nothing will change until Republican voters stop nominating the same ol' Uniparty RINOs to the Senate.
Hopefully, Coryn will lose. I dunno about Cassidy - but since he voted to impeach Trump he should go.
LOL, when has Freder not been annoyed?
"At least refer to the correct film. You are pretty dense if you are confusing Fredo Corleone and Freder Frederson."
It would help if you stopped behaving like Fredo Corleone.
These spectrum are worth BILLIONS OF DOLLARS ... but CBS gets them free, thanks to Trump's FCC.
So you are saying that FCC should cancel the licenses for the stations that CBS owns? I agree with you. It could be done on the basis of spreading mis and dis-information.
But CBS only owns 15 stations that would be subject to this. They would still get their story out over their 200 affiliates.
So maybe go after all the affiliates too? Again, sounds good to me.
If I were Prez I'd cancel all CBS-NBC-ABC and affiliate licenses just for the pure entertainment value of listening to the progressives/fascists howl at the moon.
John Henry
At least refer to the correct film. You are pretty dense if you are confusing Fredo Corleone and Freder Frederson.
You need to do your part, Fredo. Make it a bit more challenging to confuse the two of you.
Joe Bar said: “Unfortunately, the fraud arises from deep seated beliefs in those very tribal communities. They think it's not just ok, but demanded that they steal from us.

Just curious, are these beliefs something people can opt out of, or are they inherited as part of the community?
If Dokoupil can relay both sides of the issues/stories fairly in his newscast, that’s a win. Perhaps there’ll be an elephant nose in the donkey tent. Wait and see.
Also, the exception of statement against interest wouldn't have apply to your claimed statement but to the third party's statement which I don't see any way to claim it would be against his interest.
Well, you are simply wrong about that. If I admit to someone that I have committed a crime, and that person testifies to that statement in court, it is admissible as a statement against my interest. Otherwise, the exception is worthless.

Looks like RJW has decided that it's better to tell half-truths than outright lies.
Tapping Shipwreckedcrew again for a discussion of the Feeding Our Fraud prosecutions. Though the thrust of the post is largely to counter the claims the Trump Administration has not been aggressively pursuing the fraudsters, there are a couple of interesting notes about the trials that occurred under the Biden Administration. It is true that there were extensive prosecutions under that administration
Those are all the defendants charged by the Biden DOJ — 67 total — between September 2022 and February 2024. Every case was related to the “Feed Our Future” fraud scheme involving a childhood nutrition program funded by the Dept. of Agriculture.
However note the date of the last charges being filed
Remember, the Biden DOJ last charged anyone in the FOF fraud scheme on Feb. 5, 2024. No additional charges over the final 11 months prior to Trump taking office, and it had no investigations into any other fraud schemes.
Working almost from scratch, the Trump/Bondi DOJ — beginning in May 2025 — has now charged 21 additional defendants in less than 7 months, and expanded the investigation into Autism treatment, housing assistance, and the Integrated Community Supports services.
Additionally
Note what is completely absent from any of what is described above. There is nothing that suggests the Biden DOJ ever looked into whether Minnesota state officials or politicians were criminally complicit in massive and systematic fraud in programs where Minnesota paid the money out to the fraudsters.
I stand by my statement that one singular broadcast news operation that even strives for classical journalism standards would be a fantastic start. It would also reverse years of decline in viewership and trust. Just one maverick outlet. One.
If I were Prez I'd cancel all CBS-NBC-ABC and affiliate licenses just for the pure entertainment value of listening to the progressives/fascists howl at the moon.
This would set Reagan spinning in his grave. He, and his congress, is the one who got rid of the equal time rule.

"LOL, when has Freder not been annoyed?"
That would be when the news anchors of CNN, MSNBC, CBS, NBC, and ABC denounced videos of Joe Biden wandering aimlessly and saluting inappropriately at the 2024 G7 Summit as "deep fakes".
“Just curious, are these beliefs something people can opt out of, or are they inherited as part of the community?“
Just curious, have any Somali community leaders rebuked the outrageous fraud, in public? We don’t know how thoroughly entrenched this way of life is in that community until and unless we can see and hear and judge the trustworthiness for ourselves. So far, not a peep of rebuke. Right now, the Somali community has a massive PR problem, if indeed it’s just a smattering of fraudsters there and not the lot, or most of it.
It would stand alone among all news outlets if successful. By all i mean all broadcast streaming cable or whatever media. Not one presently does fact based reporting.
"Well, you are simply wrong about that. If I admit to someone that I have committed a crime, and that person testifies to that statement in court, it is admissible as a statement against my interest. Otherwise, the exception is worthless."
This is why we call you Fredo, Fredo. What you describe doesn't come in under statement against interest but, rather, as a statement of a party-opponent. It is illogical to admit it as a statement against interest since that would provide incentive for any witness to claim even more heinous admissions in order to convict you. In my hypothetical, which took me two tries to get right by the way, the witness claiming you admitted to the crime isn't even testifying in the trial.
"...we've taken into account the perspective of advocates and not the average American." Translation: We are ideological hacks in the pocket of democrats. We hate Trump, conservatives, christians and Jews. But finger's crossed, we will do better now that a left wing lesbian who we canceled was put in charge. HONEST!
Think I'll switch to the Fredo allusion permanently. Up to now my usual jeering sobriquet alluded to German Expressionist Fritz Lang, unfortunately lost to many Althousians, especially Fredo himself. (One would think the supersonic whoosh would rustle a few hairs at their many instances flew over his hollow head.)

I used to subscribe to The Free Press but I became less enamored of it than Phaedrus.
Weiss correctly understands shilling for the Democrat brand has dragged under their media adjuncts. Her solution to that is basically stuff the crazies back in attic.
Bari Weiss just serves different masters.
The reason no Somali leader has condemned the outrageous fraud is that it is not merely a few bad apples, the participation is widespread. Somali parents enrolled healthy children as autistic so as to receive kickbacks, going so far as to have bidding wars for their participation. Every single one of these Somali families should be deported. We are talking thousands, at least.
"Just curious, have any Somali community leaders rebuked the outrageous fraud, in public?"
Don't hold your breath.
"I get it. I get it." He says, and then lies about it. It isn't advocates or technocrats that legacy media serves. It's the Democrat Party. We get it. We get it.

"I don't watch network news" is a fucking cop-out.
It's a way of burying your head in the sand, or putting your hands up to your ears and going "blah blah blah" to shut the voices coming from the television out.
It's cowardly.
This is correct. ABC CBS NBC Fox CNN do not have some special right to those RF bands.
And they are given those bands by corrupt people in Washington DC and they use those bands to prop up this corrupt shitty regime.
There is nothing in Washington DC worth keeping.
"Fredo kicks off 2026 holding a shovel."
He'll need a bucket-wheel excavator to make a small divot in the mountain of shit that has collapsed on the Democrats.

And they are finding that these "daycares" and "home health care" services are quite active political donors too.
They also have some pretty good "community activism."
I.e they collect mail in ballots and help people fill them out.
People on the left are angry about stolen money from programs meant for the poor — that’s why the cases were investigated, prosecuted, and why sentences and restitution are being sought. Fraud isn’t being excused or minimized.
Here’s an interesting game for the new year. When a lefty troll posts on Althouse, how many lies can we find in a single paragraph. The above paragraph is taken from a comment by Kaki on this thread, and I count 7. Can anyone top that?
You take ilhan (nur) the daughter of a barre political officer connected to another warlord general morgam
So it's back to Walter Cronkite who was certainly a liberal but seemed more "in touch" with Middle America. CBS steps back a bit from the abyss of polarization while still pushing the same causes. But at least coverage of the Middle East will change, if that's one's concern.
Kronkite got a lot of people killed in Vietnamese with his slanted reporting. Rather was a political hack and liar. I don’t know who came next. The problems facing Dokoupil and Weiss are that half the country disbelieves legacy media because they lie and the other half only believes them because they lie. Also, truthful reporting requires a lot of work. It’s easier to ask the bullshitting “experts.”

Something I keep trying to pull out but no one seems to want to address is that a bulk of these Somali families are U.S. citizens.
Achilles et al says to denaturalize and deport. So out of the 92 arrests, I’m thinking about a dozen are not Somalis. So if they are native born American citizens who got caught up in soaking up the slush funds, do they go too?
And if so, is this the new standard for fraud across the country?
I get it that the outrage machine has fired up the Gulibles but you guys are making very little sense.
Or because we get paid to lie to you, and if we were to stop lying, we would immediately stop getting paid. So don't get your hopes up.
"Something I keep trying to pull out but no one seems to want to address is that a bulk of these Somali families are U.S. citizens."
RJW making the case for expanding the death penalty to cover fraud. Only for citizens, of course. Somalis just get CECOT.
Vizzini doesnt get the word naturalize
I've long thought Rather got the job as Cronkite's successor over the more obvious choice of Roger Mudd because Mudd embarrassed Teddy Kennedy by asking him that tough question, "Why do you want to be President?" Mudd also challenged Teddy on Chappaquiddick in that interview. Mudd had long been Cronkite's backup, and had a much more natural delivery than Rather's. Rather always seemed stiff and uncomfortable, quite apart from his dishonesty.
The surprise is that CBS even aired that Mudd interview. But it seems that Mudd's career was effectively over due to his taking down that sacred cow.
Ann, some of us aren't reassured by your assertion that you never watch the TV news, when it's clear that your in-depth reading of the news has accumulated decades of the wisdom of the NY Times and Washington Post
…also recall the assertion the PROOF there was no election fraud was if there was NYT and WaPo would be reporting it…
US born citizens should go to US prison if convicted of fraud. Somalians or any other immigrant with any remote connection to the fraud should be denaturalized and deported, each and every one. We shouldn’t have to pay for their incarceration here, with chance of early release to re-offend. Not rocket science.
"Something I keep trying to pull out but no one seems to want to address is that a bulk of these Somali families are U.S. citizens."
Send them to prison. The left didn't have a problem with doing that to people just walking around in the Capitol building, it's hard to see how they could object to a similar punishment for stealing millions of taxpayer dollars. Right?
As to Fredo… any ice on Lake Tahoe yet?
Breezy, that’s not equal justice under law. That’s citizenship conditionality.
Once someone is lawfully naturalized, they are a U.S. citizen — not a guest on probation. You don’t get to downgrade their rights because of where they were born or who they’re associated with. Courts have been crystal clear on that for decades.
Also, “remote connection” isn’t a legal standard. It’s collective suspicion. We don’t punish people for proximity, ancestry, or community ties — we punish individual criminal acts proven in court.
Mason, it appears that it’s the MAGA crowd cheering mob pardoning. And sex offender, and drug dealers, he’ll, even government fraudsters, if they’re white or wealthy.
NBC is running new adds in my area about how they are only going to broadcast truth and facts going forward in order to bring the country together. I literally burst out laughing every time I hear it. Pure comedy.
more like management, like we saw in Network, was still tied to Carter, instead of the eventual traitor, Kennedy, well useful idiot,
of course Kennedy did his negotiating through cutouts like Senator Tunney of California,
Good for CBS. The term "illegal immigrant" is incorrect no matter how much it is used to refer to people in this country without proper authorization.
I prefer "trespasser" or "intruder."
And thanks for bring that up Mason. Let’s look at how Trump’s protecting us from fraudsters.
Devon Archer — Pardoned for conspiracy to commit securities fraud (tribal bond fraud) and related offenses.
Trevor Milton — Pardoned for securities fraud and wire fraud — he had been convicted for misleading investors about his company’s technology.
Michele Fiore — Pardoned after conviction on wire fraud and conspiracy to commit wire fraud for misusing memorial funds.
Scott Howard Jenkins — Pardoned for honest services mail and wire fraud and bribery involving federal funds.
Brian Kelsey — Pardoned for conspiracy to defraud the United States and related campaign finance violations.
Other fraud figures pardoned include people convicted of Bank Secrecy Act violations (which are financial/anti-money-laundering related) and Joseph Lewis, who was convicted of securities fraud.
Glen Casada & Cade Cothren — Pardoned after convictions that included honest services wire fraud and conspiracy to defraud the United States.
Joseph Schwartz — Pardoned after a federal conviction for tax and payroll fraud relating to employee taxes (reported in news summaries and public accounts).
Conrad Black — Pardoned after prior fraud conviction (securities and mail fraud).
Albert J. Pirro Jr. — Pardoned after convictions for conspiracy to defraud the United States and other fraud counts.
Gregory Reyes — Received a pardon for securities fraud related to backdating stock options.
Michael Grimm — Pardoned after pleading guilty to tax fraud and related charges.
This is getting annoying.
Sort of the point, Fredo.
If you have to explain the joke...
It will be an interesting test case to compare how the media covers this story coming out of Ohio (link to Instapundit) where that RINO DeWine has issued a smarmy 'fraud is just the cost of providing services' statement when compared to Minnesota.
Good for CBS. The term "illegal immigrant" is incorrect no matter how much it is used to refer to people in this country without proper authorization
There is no evidence the term is incorrect. Humans who violated laws migrating to the United States are by definition illegal immigrants. Now that mainstream media has destroyed itself redefining words, inventing new definitions for words, claimed authority to decide who can say what the era of this game is coming to an end…
"without proper authorization"
rolleyes:
We just applied for tourist visas for Australia and read through all the (entirely proper) legalese that we were there at their forbearance and if we misrepresented ourselves or broke any laws we would be detained and deported. Like I said, all as it should be. What is it with the left denying that the US does not have the duty and right to control who is allowed to be present in our country?
"Illegal immigrant" is not the proper term. They are not "immigrants". Illegal alien is the proper term.
Ward says: It’s collective suspicion. We don’t punish people for proximity, ancestry, or community ties
Like hell you don't. Ask any college fraternity man whose house was kicked off campus by the fat purple-haired lesbians in the Greek Life administration for the actions of two other members in an off-campus apartment.
And what do you call slavery reparations? Affirmative action? Even the word "collectivism" itself encapsulates how you leftist scum see the world. You care nothing about the individual, and everything about the collective, the tribe, the mob, the monster enemy gangster government. Collective punishment is one of the three Holy Sacraments of the Left, along with abortion and buggery.
Everything you need to know about the Left is in Bertolt Brecht's "The Solution":
After the uprising of the 17th of June
The Secretary of the Writers' Union
Had leaflets distributed on the Stalinallee
Which stated that the people
Had forfeited the confidence of the government
And could only win it back
By redoubled work. Would it not in that case
Be simpler for the government
To dissolve the people
And elect another?
You Democrat filth brought this bloodthirsty tribe of lazy, stupid, hateful 70-IQ pirates here from Somalia to "dissolve the people and elect another" after the people of America made it clear you had worn out your welcome.
I think the german word is sippenchaft, of course this is what tennessee coates and hank rogers, specialize in, that and grift
There is nothing in Washington DC worth keeping.
Yes there is, the Air and Space Museum.
The rest of it? Hell no.
"Or we put too much weight in the analysis of academics or elites, and not enough on you."
If they put the weight on me they won’t like the result.
of course, we discovered with the whole depp-heard follies, Aussies are even as obsessed about the animal visitors that come to their country, the indian mujahadeen who traverse to phillipines and back, not so much,
Stop saying "If I were POTUS I'd do it.." and change it to "If I were King...". Rightwingers are so dumb. Read how the Government works.
Or "If I were Obama...." CC, JSM
Hassayamper: "Collective punishment is one of the three Holy Sacraments of the Left, along with abortion and buggery."
Well, the more buggery, the fewer abortions, so they've got that going for them....CC, JSM
CBS News just needs better messaging.
Close, narciso, but even my meager German knows it's Sippenhaft.
In theory, your grandparents, parents, siblings, children, and grandchildren could be punished for your misdeeds. The Chinese had a similar system IIRC, and they are not alone even if others don't have a fine German word for it.
You can skim news sites for way less than 10 minutes to get the same basic information delivered in a 30 minute newscast without the woke spin. Except for the rate breaking news story, watching an old fashioned news show is a colossal waste of time of your time.
from the facts ,it looks as if being a fraudulent individual int the present administration is highly valued. Like people ,like people. :(
What is it with the left denying that the US does not have the duty and right to control who is allowed to be present in our country
They spent a lot of your money buying those votes and expect the illegals to hold up their end of the bargain..:
I have a serious question for people: what’s the end game for a Bari Weiss fluffers like Conor Friedersdorf and Caitlin Flanagan?
CBS news is going to become straight Trump/Netanyahu TV. They pretty much announced that today. Are the Bari fluffers going to play out the string? Or at some point admit they’re wrong?
It’s an interesting dynamic because as the NYT and WaPo and even occasionally the WSJ have reluctantly followed the public as approval in the administration has spiraled, Weiss’ position as administration cheerleader has become more glaring and her professional incompetence gets more and more spotlight.
The term "illegal immigrant" is incorrect no matter how much it is used to refer to people in this country without proper authorization.
I prefer illegal alien, myself. But as usual, you're full of shit, Freder.
They are here (and I'll type this very slowly just for you) ILLEGALLY. As in not legal.
Got it?
You are pretty dense if you are confusing Fredo Corleone and Freder Frederson."
And you're pretty dense when you don't realize how and why we're insulting you.
"CBS news is going to become straight Trump/Netanyahu TV."
How about they just stick to straight reporting?
Beyond your comprehension, isn't it?
As opposed to al jazeera jr

They can have a choice.
If they are convicted of treason, which they are committing, then they can go to Somalia with their co-conspirators or be executed.
This includes all of the Obama administration staffers and elected officials that brought these shitweasels into the country and naturalized them then helped them steal money from taxpayers.

Trump is going to abandon his Israel First bullshit and his big talk no walk garbage or he is going to be a lame duck. Vance is going to step up or he will be defeated in 2028.
If Vance continues down this weak pathetic path and nothing happens for 3 more years the Republican Party has a choice.
It can run Vance like it ran Romney in 2012 and it can lose.
Or it can run someone who will do what Trump promised to do and win.
And Trump will just be remembered as the guy who promised things and never did what he said he would.
Nobody cares about Bari Weiss. She is a part of an Israel First movement that has no actual voters behind it.

Hey, RJW: Shut the fuck up. Either post all the pardons of Bidens or SHUT. THE. FUCK. UP. , you impersonating fraud piece of shit. Presidents can pardon or commute sentence of any constitutionally-qualified persons they want. You might not like Trump's and I might not like Biden's or Obama's, but that's the way it goes. But I don't run around cluttering up these comment sections with that or your disgusting pleas for more Epstein, more East Wing, more whatever crap you utter. Fuck off.
Presumably, like most people, the CBS newsroom crew is on an extended weekend/holiday break. Monday, January 5th ought to be smoking in the office.
