Minnesota in rapid decline.

ADDED: The rowdy mob is throwing snowballs. Reminiscent of the Boston Massacre.

AND: From David McCullough's "John Adams" (commission earned):
ON THE COLD MOONLIT EVENING of March 5, 1770, the streets of Boston were covered by nearly a foot of snow. On the icy, cobbled square where the Province House stood, a lone British sentry, posted in front of the nearby Custom House, was being taunted by a small band of men and boys. The time was shortly after nine. Somewhere a church bell began to toll, the alarm for fire, and almost at once crowds came pouring into the streets, many men, up from the waterfront, brandishing sticks and clubs. As a throng of several hundred converged at the Custom House, the lone guard was reinforced by eight British soldiers with loaded muskets and fixed bayonets, their captain with drawn sword. Shouting, cursing, the crowd pelted the despised redcoats with snowballs, chunks of ice, oyster shells, and stones. In the melee the soldiers suddenly opened fire, killing five men....

DHS: Woman in Minneapolis Allegedly Tried to Run Over Officers, ICE Agent Shot Her

I guess an antifa terrorist got ICEd today after she rammed her car into an ICE agent.

If Trump can’t use the NG ti protect federal employees and property, time to declare an insurrection and use regular US troops. Seems kind of backwards but if that what the USSC said to do, do it.

The third video I saw was pretty conclusive. The officer was struck, and he fired into the windshield while falling.

Of course, this won't matter to those trying to protect illegal aliens.

CJinPA said...

The video I saw isn't great, but it appears the SUV struck an officer at low speed. We'll see more.

Regardless, this is clearly the result of (white) leftists going out of their way to interfere in with law enforcement and to make every ICE interaction with the public as dangerous as possible.

They created the conditions for the actions they can then condemn. It's and old tactic: For police into split-second decisions and then judge them.

Minnesota or Minneapolis authorities may try to prosecute the ICE agent for murder. Expect tussles over the Supremacy Clause of the US Constitution and 28 U.S.C. § 1442 which allows federal officials to move criminal prosecutions that are brought against them from state to federal court under certain circumstances. Given the heated rhetoric of Minnesota and Minneapolis elected officials, this violence was almost inevitable. Very sad.

Isn't the real question: Why didn't the woman follow the commands of the armed, uniformed officer and get out of her car when she was told to? Why did she then attempt to flee the scene, hitting another armed uniformed officer in the process, and drawing his fire?

Because she has been conditioned to believe not only that she could, but that she ought to - and that this is an acceptable form of protest. She probably died terrified, thinking she had done nothing wrong. This is her fault though, it was stupid, tragic, and unnecessary, but it is blinkered to imagine that the local political leadership has not set the stage for precisely these kinds of events, by demonizing Federal officers there on a clearly defined and legal mission.

The MN progressives are rubbing their hands now, finally they think they have something to work with.

Inga said...

So, the right is already celebrating the murder of a woman who may have been a legal observer, getting shot in the head because she was in ICE’s way and they were pissed off. Is this what has happened to our Country under the Trump regime? Yes.

rehajm said...

Why the second shot?

I watched but can’t say. The officer could have lost the target in the B pillar of the car or the officer was concerned about the other officers in his line as the car moved or imminent threat was no longer present as the car was now beside him. Had the threat persisted and a clean line I’d expect an officer to empty the magazine…

mccullough said...

Inga, tell your friends to stay out of the way.

Leland said...

Just looked at the video at this link. It clearly shows the ICE agent was moving out of the way of the car when struck by the driver side front bumper. If you watch this video from another angle; you can see the driver backed up and turned to the right. Because you can't see the ICE agent from this angle, it looks like she is avoiding the agents that stepped out of the vehicle to the left, but none of them are seen sprinting to the right of the vehicle. That means the ICE agent she struck was already there, and she turned her vehicle towards that agent and hit her accelerator.

Inga is a horrible person that doesn't care about anybody's safety.

This video is even more clear. The driver has an agent at her door telling her to get out of the vehicle. Instead of complying with law enforcement instruction (a crime in Texas, but I have no idea what Minnesota says about it); she turns her car towards another agent and hits the accelerator and that agent.

As for regular liar Mark; all officers are uniformed with "Police" clearly visible. In fact, it only says "Police", so an uninformed bystander wouldn't know if they are local, state, federal, ICE, or any particular law enforcement.

As I see the video, she backed up so that she could turn right without hitting the officer in front of the car and she turned the vehicle away from the agent. I hope there will be a video that will show clearly whether the officer could have simply stepped out of the way. The car was probably going 5 mph at the time. It takes time to draw your gun - time that could have been spent running 1-2 steps to your right. Or was the gun already out - would that have been appropriate?

I guess to a large extent we see what we want to see - sort of like with the death of George Floyd, and Ashli Babbitt. What you see depends on your politics.

He was pushed out of the way by a moving accelerating vehicle. The engine would be revving pretty loud.

He was not in a position to see or know what the vehicle would do next. The wheels were out of his vision because from his position the front left wheel was under his head when he shot.

Saying he "easily stepped out of the way" is not accurate at all. Anyone who has been in a situation where a vehicle hits them while accelerating would say that. The bullets went through the windshield. He was on top of the hood when he shot. At that point there is no discussion.

You can play this in slow motion all you want. When someone starts accelerating a vehicle at you and hits you with it you don't have time to realize "oh I am OK."

She hit him with the vehicle. His shoulders and hands were over the wheel.

If you allow people to drive off in a situation like this you will have many many more people getting killed because they think it is OK to flee arresting officers.

A driver like this fleeing from law enforcement is highly likely to hit other people. Allowing her to drive off there had a very high likelihood of hurting or killing other innocent people.

Shooting this woman makes it clear you don't get to start car chases with the cops. Shooting this woman saved lives.

Why the second shot?

Shooting multiple shots with a semi-automatic happens a lot. It is much easier, even if unintended, than with a revolver. This is especially true with a spike of adrenaline hitting. Also, as mentioned above, it is common for two or three shots to be used in training, as once deadly force is needed, the training is to shoot to end the threat, not stop and see where the first shot went.

I have only seen two angles (without sound) and have no firm conclusions. If she floored the accelerator, though, that would be significant to the officer's perceived level of threat.

Achilles said...

Watching these videos a trained person will understand when he decided to shoot her and they can see the delay between that decision and the actual shots.

He decided to shoot her when the vehicle started moving forward towards him.

He was a fairly quick draw and fire. He obviously had range time.

If you watch bagoh20's video will see that his first shot was fired almost exactly at the same time the vehicle hit him. You could even say he might not have meant to shoot but being jostled by the vehicle caused the shot to go off.

But he had obviously practiced draw and fire and was in the middle of a trained reaction when he shot the woman.

If you are struck by a vehicle you are not pulling the trigger one time. Many people, even trained people, would have unloaded the entire mag under that type of stress. Stopping at 3 shots makes him a fairly cool cucumber.

He has no duty to retreat unlike for civilians in certain situations. He did what I'd expect an officer to do. Notice Ann's confusion over 'double tap' is again, an officer who no longer faced imminent threat and stopped firing. And I feel bad for our country that we have to go through this again. 2020 sucked.

As long as we tolerate democrats importing voters and giving them money they take from Americans we are going to go through this as long as it takes for Democrats to destabilize the country enough that general order breaks down and they can complete the Cloward-Piven strategy.

You can already see people here who are normally able to see 3 or 4 steps ahead feel bad for this woman.

I feel bad for this woman. She made poor decisions and she paid a steep price for those decisions.

But if you let this woman make poor decisions other people who did not make poor decisions are going to get hurt and killed instead of her.

In a free high trust society where I can let my kids go play outside without fear that some stupid woman is going to drive at police officers and start a police chase that woman gets shot.

"Why the second shot?"
"The Supreme Court ruled that police may only use deadly force if they have a reasonable belief that the suspect poses a significant threat of death or serious injury to themselves or others, as established in cases like Tennessee v. Garner and more recently in Barnes v. Felix, which emphasized evaluating the totality of circumstances rather than just the moment of threat. This means that the context leading up to the use of force must be considered in determining its reasonableness."

The officer in front moved in from the opposite side just as she was accelerating. My complaint of the left:

1. In a democracy, we steer the ship by talking, spending our dollars, and voting.

1.a. What is the purpose of a mass assembly of people around duly authorized police or agency workers, except coercion by intimidation - by threat of physical harm?

1.b. Your love of the struggle - the revolution - is misplaced in a democracy. Who are you struggling against? Your own fellow citizens? And if you say "yes", then you love the struggle, and you must also love, in your own way, the outcomes like this.

1.c. Anyway, the struggle you should be worried about is the struggle to control your own pride and self-righteousness.

2. You contribute to these situations by showing up as though you are manning the barricades. It's all adrenalin and thrill until someone gets shot.

3. When you denigrate and demean a lawful and duly authorized police agency as "the man" and "bad people", you create the very group of people you claim to not want. Calling ICE "storm troopers" can only have the effect over time of "storm trooper-ish" people being the only people that will take the job. Nobody else - the more reasonable and thoughtful people get tired of being called storm troopers and they drop out or won't take the job.

You can watch the wheels turn away from the cop before he shoots, and the only reason it touches him is because he's leaning in to shoot through the windshield, which he does from beside the car fender, but at the moment he shoots, it's impossible for the car to run him over or even do anything more than make slight contact. Still, that's probably not how it looked to him. He might reasonably assumed it was going to hit him. If she wanted to run him over, she would have, shot or not.

Whether it was a good decision is open for debate; not open for debate is that it was a very bad decision by the driver.

I agree this is a possibility.

If that is true the point where she erred was deciding it was OK to start a vehicular police chase.

If you lose awareness of your surroundings and you start driving at a person with a gun while another officer is telling you to stop you are the problem, not the officers.

There is no sane country that allows people to start a vehicular police chase. Vehicular police chases have an insanely high rate of death and injury.

1. There is such a thing as mercy. Justice is great, but I never met anyone who wanted only justice all of the time. We all need a little mercy.

2. Why do you want to fight your own countrymen so much?

3. Donald Trump is good on a lot of things, but he isn't Christ or even a close resemblance, so stop acting like he is. As I said back in 2015/2016: I know Trump from having grown up with him in the NY Metro area. He's not a shining example of morality and rectitude. But I can live with him to an extent, on some of his points. Christ warned us against wolves in *sheep's* clothing, not wolves in *wolves* clothing. I guess He thought we could figure those guys out on our own.

4. Not a good thing that Biden let so many people in the country, but those who took us up on our invitation to come do have an estoppel argument of sorts, don't they? And you tout the greatness, economic might, and God-blessed exceptionalism of the U.S. so much, why would you ever blame *anyone* from wanting to be here under whatever circumstances they can muster?

4. “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father in heaven." And the will of His Father in Heaven? Love our enemies and pray for them that despitefully use us. I'd like to see a little more of that from all us so-called Christians.

You make my point. You can see the point where he decided to shoot her if you know what you are looking at.

It is when the vehicle started moving forward and was pointed at him.

After he made that decision his hand pulled the weapon and he brought it up and he fired. In between the moment of the decision when he reached for his gun and the shots were fired he was hit by the vehicle.

He wasn't winning any quick draw competitions but he wasn't slow either.

That is painfully stupid and dishonest, Lefty Mark- the driver knew exactly who those officers were- it was the entire point of her being there- to hinder the arrests the ICE officers were attempting in the neighborhood- she wasn't confused at all when they told her to exit the vehicle because she was going to be put under arrest- instead of obeying she tried to run and, in running, almost ran another officer down. She fucked around and found out.

But at a higher level this was destined to happen, it was the outcome of a sequence of decisions affirmatively made. Governors and mayors supported opposition to federal law enforcement action. Mobs pressured federal law enforcement when they were conducting operations. So those events over time created a moment where tragedy occurred.

Humans are not perfect. Conflict creates stress that ruptures intention. It is known as a slow motion train wreck. This was inevitable and very sad. And, I may think, what some wanted.

I commented a while ago about a line in a movie “ This is out of control, this is out of control and we will be lucky to live through it.” It turns out that was the case. And politics will use it to excuse the complicity and fecklessness of our betters.

Now, had the officer the ability to study the videos of her trying to drive away and slip by him by turning right, he might have chosen a different action but to try to argue he should have known she wasn't trying to run him over is pretty ridiculous.

I don't know what procedure is for getting someone out of a vehicle in this situation is- do you try to box them in with bodies so they can't drive away? I know I wouldn't have been in front of or behind her given her obvious lunacy but that is me not him.
