The Capitol looks vaguely familiar....as well as the Power Plant Facility Services. Are there no other vantage points in Madison to capture the sunrise?

Trump says US will intervene if Iran starts killing protesters: ‘Locked and loaded’ ~ Fox News

Is Trump prepared to back this up beyond symbolic action? The Iranian regime is not going to act with restraint against protestors.

All is right with the world.

What's the soundtrack?

Kak asks a good question about something that troubles me. We should, of course, support secular forces if there are any--if the oppo isn't explicitly secular and anti-theocracy we should just let them stew.

"I had to copy the video's URL to be able to watch it.

Interesting. It displays for me on my desktop and my iPhone.

YouTube doesn't give embed code for its shorts, but I used AI to write code that would let me embed. Part of the method I use involves changing the word "shorts" in the URL to "embed," so it's interesting to me that when I used "control-option" clicking to copy the URL, it gave me the original URL with the word "shorts" in it.

Kind of a mystery. I think YouTube wants its shorts thing to keep people scrolling in one continuous process, so it deters embedding. TikTok doesn't do that. TikTok gives you embedding code.

So annoying!

"What's the soundtrack?"

See? That's another way YouTube shorts is worse than TikTok. If I embed TikTok, the soundtrack will be identified in the embed.

With this YouTube video, you can click on the word "shorts" in the lower right corner and it will take you to YouTube where you'll see an icon for the soundtrack in the lower right corner.

In this case, the music is "Zombie" by The Cranberries.

Worked for me on an iPad.

And for me on Windows 11 laptop.

North of Stonedome!

"Are there no other vantage points in Madison to capture the sunrise?"

We've used the same vantage point something like 2 thousand times. Suddenly, we're going to think we need to change it up?

We were even talking, out our way out today, about how we keep doing the same thing because we like it best and the extra weight some other people might give to variety isn't a thing for us.

It's the detail and the variation within what is the same that feels so good.

Stonedome is a great improvement over Irondome, its prototype in DC.

That was the Cranberries? O'Riordan wrote "Zombie", but that recording didn't sound like the Cranberries.

Nice video. Not a fan of music soundtracks.

I'm with the kakistophage on this, surprise surprise. Our involvement in Iran would be an expensive waste at best and catastrophically counterproductive at worst. The Iranian people are perfectly capable of dragging out the mullahs and Republican Guards and slitting all their throats by themselves.

Kak misses the point.

It’s a cover of “Zombies” by the Cranberries.

Meade, if that’s an iPhone, there is a cool anamorphic lens made by Sandmarc that lens for some really cool extrawide (or tall given your orientation here) that will stop down the light a little and make for some interesting effects, like lens flare and a film type quality. Something fun to play with anyway.

Cool capture against the dome!

Dang… wasn’t aware that O'Riordan passed away in 2018. Several covers. Maybe Bad Wolves?

Narr said...

Didn't know the song, or much about The Cranberries (except that unavoidable hit). At least it wasn't Sabaton.

"Meade's Sunrise", with the Capitol top thrusting in air, sun spouting rays.....Wonder if it was a Happing Morning in MeadeHouse.

Happy not Happing. Hate typos when I try to be funny, which is hard enough.

Or it could have been just Fapping....CC, JSM

SoundHound tells me it’s a cover of “Zombie” by something called Ran-D. I prefer the original.

And I think it’s nice to see the sunrise from the same spot each day. You can see how it moves back and forth with the seasons.

Narr (9:08am):
It’s easy enough to find out on Twitter “if there are any . . . secular forces” in Iran. The demonstrators/rioters have torn down a statue of Qassem Suleimani and another (just put up) of a recent president, burned down a seminary, the women are tearing off their veils, and they’re all calling for the return of the Shah, and for cutting off funds to Hamas and Hezbollah. They’re secular.

Narr; "At least it wasn't Sabaton."

C'mon man. This made me look to see if the 'Ton has a song called Red Sun, about the Russo-Japanese War or something. No joy (and it would have been joy). But my search took me to this video of them doing The Red Baron - live in Berlin!

https://youtu.be/GmqVpskrLsQ

Come for the Hammond B3 organ mocked up to look like a Fokker triplane with spinning propeller. Stay for the crowd singing along with the chorus, "High-er!" Yes, awkward.

If Sabaton can fill a Kraut stadium, maybe there is hope for postmodern Germany after all. Maybe stuff like the pink gal getting stoned in the post below won't happen much longer.

Maybe the fans were all tourists - the lead singer spoke to them in English. I would think he could have made-done in Swedish if the audience was all German....CC, JSM

Hassayamper (10:00am):
The people of Iran would be “perfectly capable” of overthrowing the mullahs by themselves if (a) they had a 2nd Amendment and were not facing armed men empty-handed, and (b) Russia were not flying in plane loads of men, weapons, and ammunition. Latest reports are that the men shooting demonstrators are Arabic speakers, not Iranians.

Dr Weevil said...

Or maybe not Russia: MAKS 25 on Twitter reports that “At least four Belarusian Il-76 aircraft have landed in Tehran in the past 48 hours . . . They are believed to be transporting military cargo.”

Narr said...

I'm not a Twitter/X follower, but there's similar content on Youtube (secular forces in Iran).

Time will tell, but I'm allowing myself a little optimism.

Nice sunrise, but the choice of an off-brand version of "Zombie" for the music is inexplicable.
