"The people around him are similar to Biden’s aides. They would talk as if we’re living in a little bit of a fantasy world."

"Trump, in that way, with the help of his aides and his doctors have created this fiction about his health to hide the hard, cold truth that he is 79 and one of the oldest people to ever occupy the Oval Office.”

Said political historian Matthew Dallek, quoted in "Shorter Days, Signs of Fatigue: Trump Faces Realities of Aging in Office/President Trump has always used his stamina and energy as a political strength. But that image is getting harder for him to sustain" (NYT).

Is this even news at all? What's news to me and why I'm blogging this is that the NYT is displayed at the top of the home page as if it's the top news story of the day:
It makes me feel as though the NYT is committed to continually feeding anxiety about Trump, that this is a slot to be filled every day, and that there must be a whole slop bucket of stories like this ready to go. An old man is old. That's newsy enough for Thankswednesday.

My favorite front-page teaser in the NYT right now is:

Why would anyone in the U.P. not side with the Packers? Look at a map.

Trump will always be covered as front page news. Blame it on the TDS.

Maintenance of TDS requires fresh anti-Trump talking points every day. It’s also why old people are marching around with anti-Trump signs they didn’t make and can’t explain.

What's the confusion? The U.P. and Detroit are both Not NYC. And places that are Not NYC are places of otherness and out-thereness. Anyone or any place mentioned by The NYT should only feel gratitude for being noticed. Well, not Trump, of course - that would be like being grateful your stalker noticed you - but it should be topping everyone else's list of "things I'm thankful for" on Thursday.

LOL! Rare is the day that my wife and I don't marvel at how much Trump gets done in each day and the energy he exhibits for someone only a bit over a decade older than we are. One cannot compare the hidden husk of Biden to a man who lives so out in public.

On a related note whatever happened to that old maxim that "wit is the sign of a sharp mind"? Because the way this POTUS riffs on stuff continually would seem to indicate a Wallace Shawn level of intellect.

The other very public body of evidence is the mountain of old tape and film of Trump saying essentially the same things — to business news anchors, to Oprah, to Carson — over the years that he ran on and continues to reference: America's respect in the world, our trade imbalances, putting America first, avoiding conflict by showing strength and negotiating zealously for America.

The big story in Fort Myers, Florida, yesterday was a coyote that had gotten stuck on a ledge on the second floor of a parking garage by a hotel downtown. Everyone was all concerned about the coyote, and there were the de rigeur roadrunner jokes, but ultimately, coyotes are an invasive species that came here from someplace else, not unlike most Florida residents. And they would eat your cat or your foo-foo dog without a second thought, so all of the coyote sympathy was probably misplaced.

- A Seditious message to our military
- Fake story about the Chief of Staff getting fired
- Fake story about the Attorney General getting fired
- Fake story about the FBI Director getting fired.

The question is why, and why now?

President Trump declared last year's turkey pardons "invalid," on the grounds that President Joe Biden had "used the autopen" to grant them. Trump said the two birds, named Peach and Blossom, had been located and pardoned again.

There's been a regular drip, drip, drip from the lefty media- both legacy and social, that Trump's health is failing. His mental state, his physical state are obviously degraded, or so they infer. I see posts, articles that keep that thought gestating in the back of people's minds.

The reality is that this 79 year old man takes on more, gets more accomplished in a day than any random 40 year old you may know. That he's slowing down a bit, showing signs of exhaustion, hell...I would think so. I know I'd be crawling at this point.

His first year has been a frenetic pace of bills, EOs, peace agreements, fights with Congress, with the media, with Democrats, with other Republicans, and of course, with other world leaders.
Perhaps he's looking to better pace himself through the last 3 years of his term. By 82, this will get very tricky (for all of us).

Trump isn't "sustaining an image", that's just him. His level of stamina and energy is extraordinary. It does seem like he is slowing down a little.

At a third of his current energy level, he would match most of our past presidents, and still have 10 times the energy level of vibrant Joe Biden.

Trump has very good people around him who are young and energetic. He could cut out half of his activity, and everything still gets done.

mikee said...

Until Trump is horizontal and room temperature, reports of this kind need a very strong "whataboutism" argument referencing Joe Biden, Nancy Pelosi and heck, Mitch McConnell and Strom Thurmond thrown at them, followed by a loud "SO WHAT! WHO CARES? EFFFFF YOU!" to the NY Times, which spent years and years not noticing the dementia patient campaigning in his basement and then occupying space in the White House. To hell with that, and to hell with them. This story deserves nothing more than to be face down on a bird cage floor.

Paul said...

Clyde, that coyote could jump from that ledge and be just fine. They aren't French Poodles, they're made of steel wire cable and coiled springs. They can clear a 6 foot backyard fence without touching it. Dropping 10 to 15 feet to the ground and running away would be nothing for a coyote, except a blow to its dignity.

"Why would anyone in the U.P. not side with the Packers? Look at a map."

The real question is why anyone outside Wisconsin would side with the Packers. Good Lord, just look at those uniforms! On second thought, don't. The colors are hideous. Anyone having the misfortune of looking at those fashion disasters could be forgiven for wanting to claw their eyes out. Then, you have the fans wearing simulated wedges of cheese on their heads. Proudly. In public. Is that how any sane person wants to show support for their team? And finally, there's the name: Packers. Really? Would you rather root for a team named after a regal, fearsome animal like a lion, or a team named after a long-defunct, two-bit meat packing company? I think the question answers itself.

I’m 79 myself so someone has to remind me. Joe Biden was how old when the Times was running articles assuring us that Joe Biden was “sharp as a tack” in the spring and summer of 2024?

We were supposed o believe the New York Times when said Biden was up to a second term despite the evidence of our own eyes and the fact that he was “putting an early lid” on his workdays since not long after his own Inauguration Day. Meanwhile we’re supposed to believe that Trump is facing “the realities of aging in office” despite his obvious energy and the accomplishments of his administration.

I would like to see somebody get mad enough to start a daily-update website that compares Trumps previous day calendar to Biden's, at the same point during his administration. It will be striking, not only because Biden's was mostly empty, but because a lot of it wasn't published. I'm just guessing that Trumps is public.

Then at the top of the page, they could print a comparison of 'Days since last official press conference' for each, and on the next line, 'Days since last impromptu taking questions from the press', same.

BTW, I now hope never to end up like Bart Starr, whose last years were marked by dementia and physical disability. God bless him.

As far as physical vigor and intellectual cognition goes, Trump's worst day--in either of his two terms--will best Sleepy Joe Biden's best day in the years 2021-2025. So the kiddos in the NYT newsroom and over at WaPoo have to deal with that. And yes Trump is getting older and slowing down a bit. I think he will make it to the end of his term in good shape.

Where was Dallek during the four long Biden years? Trump is old, but he's holding up fine. No need for concern now if you felt none during the reign of President Puddinghead.

I'm not sure what the Lions and Packers have to do with that, but remember "Superior," the state that was supposed to be formed from the UP and Northern Wisconsin? Being governed by rulers far away is a bad thing, but the alternative seems to be having the same kind of rulers inside your own tent and ever growing in number.
