James Comey lied to congressional investigators and impeded their investigation.

James Comey put multiple people in jail for those exact crimes.

James Comey's jail sentence should be 10 times longer than all of the people he himself put in jail for lying to investigators and obstructing investigations.

When powerful people cheat to get better loans, it comes at the expense of hardworking people.

Everyday Americans cannot lie to a bank to get a mortgage, and if they did, our government would throw the book at them.

There simply cannot be different rules for different people.

And no lefties, disagreeing on the value of property is not “cheating” on a loan. We all value things differently, unless you believe in communism, in which case you value that ideology more than I do, cheater.

Alas, the turquoise circle of imposition bears the astroidal mark of the Gemini. U.S. launches financial rescue of Argentina, Treasury buys pesos ~ Fortune

Republicans in Congress strangely silent on the Argentina bailout to benefit Bessent’s friends. Very odd. In the same 24 hr news cycle, Scott Bessent warns that the Fed over-reacted with QE2, if not also QE1, AND promises that Treasury will do whatever is necessary to defend the Argentine peso. Huh? Is this a jurisdictional thing--the Fed vs Treasury--or is this another example of Trump playing favorites--Qatar last week and Argentina this week, but never the US debt and equity markets?

If Soros were 25 yrs younger, he might short the Argentine peso like he did the British pound in 1992 when he and an associate made a killing--at the expense of the Bank of England. The associate's name? Scott Bessent.

Kakistocracy said...

Argentina needs to let the peso find its own level. Attempts to use the currency to manipulate the inflation rate are doomed. Ultimately what really needs to happen is for the IMF to walk away from Argentina instead of throwing good money after bad. The American loan is idiotic and just shows how Trump is befuddled by geopolitics and economics.

This knucklehead signed the law Government Employee Fair Treatment Act. They need to get him back on his Dementia meds. House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) broke with President Donald Trump on Thursday over whether furloughed federal workers would receive back pay once the government reopens, according to a new report.
Johnson says he supports the law paying furloughed workers back pay after the shutdown ends. Recently, Trump said some furloughed workers "don't deserve" to receive any missed payments.
Of course," Johnson told the outlet about whether Congress would approve the funding. "My understanding is federal law has always been pretty settled on that, and it's always custom that furloughed federal employees get back pay." Yeah always until you get a brain dead person only interested in petty revenge. Whose in the majority here? Presidency, House and Senate controlled by who? The Civil War ended July 15, 1870, when Georgia was readmitted to the Union.

There are other dates you could use, but that seems the most accurate one. The last Confederate army surrendered June 2, 1965. But the last navy ship to surrender was the CSS Shenandoah on November 6, 1865. The CSA never surrendered- there was no central government available to do so by the time the armies of the confederacy were surrendering. And no confederate state government surrendered- only armies and army units. The states were conquered.

************
Bessent was a 29 year old Soros employee, not an "associate". He certainly profited from the short selling, but not nearly to the extent Soros himself did.

In any case, Soros didn't create the situation the Bank of England found itself in, that was on the Bank itself for buying too heavily into the European Exchange Rate Mechanism using overvalued British pounds.

As Soros might say, using the words of Tammany Hall pol George W. Plunkitt, "I seen my opportunities and I took 'em."---except Soros's strategy was entirely legal.

Your comment about Soros doing the same---shorting Argentina's peso---makes absolutely no sense, since the peso's value is already *falling*---not over-valued--- and the U.S. is propping it up.

The UK had no such rescuers to effectively defend the pound. . Soros would be a fool to try to profit from the Trump administration's efforts to strengthen the peso by selling it short..

And Soros is no fool.

The Oregonian puts the whole Portland deal in perspective:

“The amazing thing is, you look at Portland and you see fires all over the place, you see fights and just violence — it’s just so crazy,” he said.

President Donald Trump has said he is dispatching 200 Oregon National Guard troops to protect Portland’s Immigration and Customs Enforcement building in a “war-ravaged” city where police have been unable to stop people from “trying to burn down buildings, including federal buildings.”

Fact check: Portland Fire & Rescue responded to four calls about fires near the ICE building since June 6, according to fire department data. One of the calls — on Sept. 14 — came from someone who called 911 based on what they saw in a TikTok video. There was “no evidence of a fire and no response,” according to fire department notes on the call.

From June 6 to September 30, the fire department has declared a 15% increase in reported fires over the same period last year. Most of the fires originated from landscaping bark and dumpsters, while building fire responses decreased by 33% over the same time period.

Perhaps you don't recall that George Floyd died in Minneapolis five years ago, Mr. President. Meanwhile. ICE is greeted nightly in South Portland by the law-abiding Portland Chicken and Froggy, who is suffering from an unwarranted ICE attack.

Barack Obama

@BarackObama
After two years of unimaginable loss and suffering for Israeli families and the people of Gaza, we should all be encouraged and relieved that an end to the conflict is within sight; that those hostages still being held will be reunited with their families; and that vital aid can start reaching those inside Gaza whose lives have been shattered. More than that, though, it now falls on Israelis and Palestinians, with the support of the U.S. and the entire world community, to begin the hard task of rebuilding Gaza – and to commit to a process that, by recognizing the common humanity and basic rights of both peoples, can achieve a lasting peace.

A month before Kamala’s book release it was in the 1000s.
The publicity push will start probably in a couple of weeks. The first book Michelle released after Obama’s term in office had massive sales - around 15 million copies. (Kamala’s sales are in the 400,000 range which is really good.) So we’ll see then how popular the Obama’s are.

The last Confederate army surrendered June 2, 1965 (sic).

General Kirby Smith surrendered on 2 Jun 1865. But General Stand Waite, a Cherokee slave owner, signed a cease-fire with the Union in Doaksville, Choctaw Nation (now Oklahoma) a few weeks later on 23 Jun 1865.

A higher percentage of Cherokee owned Black slaves than Southern Whites did. The Cherokee recognized that the American Civil War would impact slavery among the Indians as well as the South. Waite was among a faction that pushed for a separate “Southern” Cherokee Nation to preserve slavery. (Separate from the “Northern” Cherokee faction that did not own slaves.) Eventually the Cherokee Nation signed a treaty with the United States ending the war and freeing their slaves in 1866.

The freed slaves were supposed to receive certain concessions from the Cherokee, but never did until a Supreme Court ruling in the early 2000s (I think).

Rocco said...

Just to be clear, Stand Waite was a general in the Confederate Army, and not a general in a separate, allied Cherokee army.
