Pigs Fly - A Trump supporter watches CBS News in the time of Bari Weiss.
I watched three segmants of CBS Evening News today and I was astounded to see even-handed, informative coverage. I didn't think Bari could get going so soon. For example, in the coverage of October 7 memorials in Israel, the news mentioned the casualties of the Gaza which it said were obtained from the "Hamas controlled" Palestinian Health Authority, That's the first time I've seen a major outlet acknowlege Hamas control of these figures, Then there was a discussion of the Colorado case on the banning of conversion therapy which had a segment discussing conversion therapy as used against gays, a practice this law would ban. Next it had a gender therapist who argued for the practice but her own words made it plain that minors are being targeted by those advocating for changing genders. (The story did not discuss whether these arrests were based on criminal warrants other than immigration status. ) Trump was mentioned this way: President Trump has ordered the National Guard .... The stories included a lot of "advocates on this side say this while advocates on that side say that." You know, news. And Hitler has left the building - I didn't hear him mentioned once.
Althouse, back in 2018 you highlighted Convenience Store Woman by Sayaka Murata. Part of the reason I visit here regularly is those kinds of posts because they expose me to things I wouldn't likely find in my other places. That post got me thinking and connecting to other things I was working on, and became part of a presentation I did later that year at a theology conference.
You, and many of the commentators over the years, have helped my thinking and been a useful part of this messy internet. So thank you for this daily space to consider and learn.
For those of you who are thinking about providing yourselves with personal protection but do not feel that lethal force is the answer, check out Byrna.com. Non lethal personal protection.
One of the results of the publicity surrounding the murder of Charlie Kirk is that a lot of younger conservatives are getting more exposure. Many of them are black. Kaisen D Asiedu @thatsKAISEN is one of them. He is excellent at explaining his positions and at the same time giving lessons in logic. Here is one of his videos: https://x.com/thatskaizen/status/1904367677604520151?s=46
Under 31 U.S.C. § 3302(b) — the Miscellaneous Receipts Statute — all money received for the government, including tariffs, must be deposited into the Treasury’s general fund and can’t be spent without a Congressional appropriation.
Tariff collections are recorded as customs duties in receipt account 0110 (Customs Duties) within the general fund — they aren’t revolving or trust funds available for Executive use. The Executive can’t redirect tariff revenue to WIC or any other program.
WIC’s current funding comes from USDA carryover balances and an OMB-approved contingency reserve, not tariffs. Even if Congress later drew on tariff receipts, it would appear as a regular outlay in an Appropriations Act, not a direct reallocation of customs revenue.
Has there been a request for such an appropriation? That would be a constructive step.
If Jay Jones (D-Stalin Wannabe) was running for Recorder of Deeds it would be one thing, but he’s running for AG! How did he get this far politics? And you know there is more out there.
Will be going to the pistol range this week. I go at least once a month and usually fire 60-70 rounds. Start at 15 ft for 20 rounds to warm up and then finish up with 40-50 rounds at 30 ft. I would go more often but my better half thinks it's a waste of money. I just tell her that if I ever have to fire my weapon in self defense I want to make sure I hit what I'm aiming at.
The funny part about these stories is that they claim that the Patriot only became ineffective recently. Anybody following sources that don't base their reporting on official announcements out of Kiev knows that Russian missiles have been mostly getting through since day one.
The press is so full of lies, but I guess it's like what Churchill said, "The truth in war is so precious, it must be protected by a bodyguard of lies." Well, I think that the European public has been lied to massively. Maybe I am wrong, time will tell.
Eva@8:28 - Compare the stuff coming out of the "right" - to the hot garbage pouring out of the violent anarchist left. It's daylight v hell. Another Black conservative worth watching is Amala. I love her. She has great youtube videos as well.
Remember that there was a deal on the table a month after the war started that would have kept Ukraine intact. It would have had to go back to the original deal under which it was created, to be non-aligned, and would have had to respect the language rights of its Russian speaking citizens, and it would seem that that was too much to ask, and that this war was a better option.
Alright, I admit it. I am mad. As in, mentally deranged. We made marinara, from fresh tomatoes and herbs, so there is a big sprig of fresh basil left on the counter. And I decided to make garlic bread, so I started melting some butter, and pressing garlic into it. But since the basil was right there -- what the heck. So there's some basil in it.
But. Then, it turned out there is no Italian bread, nor even French. So. Casting sanity to the winds, I set the oven to preheating to 350, and started thawing some rye bread. This is that top-of-the-slide moment. Here we go.
Bill Crawford, nope. As far as I can tell we are very very distant cousins. But I really like his work and even before I read him I was drawn to many of the same themes. I get asked about a family connection regularly
In 1978 - 1980, gold prices increased similarly to what they have done in the past couple years, the run up in the price of gold started and got going under Biden, and has continued under Trump, but in 1980, when that happened, it was due to a crisis in confidence in the US dollar.
Anyone here familiar with the Jefferson (Wisconsin) Sportsman Club? It's been about 10 years since I shot trap but I have the itch to get back into it. Open shooting is only open for about 2 more weeks but I was thinking about joining next spring.
Nicole Wallace. The "Life long Republican" who "helped" Sarah Palin in 2008. John McCain was such a POS. Almost every one of his top aides in 2008 has become a liberal Democrat. Here was his "Republican" VP short list in 2008 -
Joe Lieberman - A liberal democrat and 1st choice. Charlie Crist - Later became a liberal Democrat Mike bloomberg - Later became a liberal Democrat Mitt Romney - LOL Tim Pawlenty - Dropped out of Politics to make $$ Sarah Palin - An actual conservative.
Eh. I won't say that rye garlic bread is better. But it wasn't bad. And the basil was definitely a plus. It's pretty amazing, the uses you find for fresh basil when you have loads of it. Grew it form seed, in one season.
Coming up on my 6th year at Princeton Club Express. I have a free membership through Silver Sneakers. When I started I weighed 220 lbs. and am now down to 180 lbs without any major changes to diet, just adding exercise. 40 mins. of resistance (weight) exercise and 40 mins. of aerobic exercise (Treadmill or bike). The only reason I do 40 mins on the bike or treadmill is I have COPD and I need to exercise my lungs as much as possible. My wife says it's the best thing I have done since we hit our 70's. She's my inspiration, I couldn't do it without her encouragement. 3 days a week, every Mon. Wed. and Fri. Hello Wed morning!!
At dinner, my son asked my opinion on the recent TRO (the first one) by Judge Karen Immergut, restraining the Trump administration from using the Oregon National Guard to enforce the law in Portland. Having read the opinion, I explained that on the whole, I found her arguments persuasive. She said that the plaintiffs (State of Oregon, etc.) were likely to prevail on the merits, and that the action contemplated by the administration, which would violate the sovereignty of the State of Oregon, and also the Tenth Amendment to the Constitution of the United States of America, would necessarily constitute irreparable harm. Given that this is merely a temporary restraining order, I think her position is strong, and her opinion is well-argued. The one issue I have is that she seems to have made a finding of fact, that nothing untoward is taking place in Portland. In fact, the municipal government is routinely refusing to enforce the rule of law, and is effectively colluding with a criminal organization, to violate the rights of American citizens. The mayor, the City Council, and the Chief of Police are all criminals, and should be arrested, tried, convicted, and imprisoned. For long terms.
I also pointed out that the Trump administration never defies a court order, but seeks in every possible legal way to circumvent those orders that limit their ability to carry out their program. This is fully in keeping with the view that, while there are a great many worthless shit-sack foreign vermin on the bench, appointed by the criminal Obama and Biden regimes, defiance of duly appointed judges, however contemptible they may be, is defiance of law, and the Trump administration respects the rule of law.
At the same time, by pressing into every nook and cranny of executive power, they are getting the judiciary on record, as to what, exactly, are the powers of a President, of whatever party.
Patriot is no longer the principal Ukrainian air defense system. Its used only for "challenging" attack types. And these are used in very small numbers within a greater attack - probably because Russia is unable to produce them in any numbers. At this rate electric infrastructure, for instance, is in no danger of being overwhelmed.
Peach is using X as her source to report that MSNBC is being pressured to fire Nicolle Wallace after she tried to blame a fire at the home of a South Carolina judge on the Trump administration.
Wrong again Sweety.
Wallace framed her report on the burned-down house as coming “amid a surge in hostility and threats against judges” who have moved to obstruct Trump’s agenda.
SC State Law Enforcement Division Chief Mark Keel said in a statement: “At this time, there is no evidence to indicate the fire was intentionally set. SLED agents have preliminarily found there is no evidence to support a pre-fire explosion.”
Jaq said... bullshit. How about telling us once again that the russkis have been tripping from battlefield to battlefield success since they invaded Ukraine **almost four years ago**? Some "superpower"!!!! SNORT
Jupiter, you and your son should introduce yourselves to the Insurrection Act of 1792. The "one issue" you have doubts about actually goes to the heart of the legal case against the state of Oregon:
0 U.S.C. § 251 (formerly 331) - Federal aid for State governments:
"Whenever there is an insurrection in any State against its government, the President may, upon the request of its legislature or of its governor if the legislature cannot be convened, call into Federal service such of the militia of the other States, in the number requested by that State, and use such of the armed forces, as he considers necessary to suppress the insurrection."
10 U.S.C. § 252 (formerly 332) - Use of militia and armed forces to enforce Federal authority:
"Whenever the President considers that unlawful obstructions, combinations, or assemblages, or rebellion against the authority of the United States, make it impracticable to enforce the laws of the United States in any State by the ordinary course of judicial proceedings, he may call into Federal service such of the militia of any State, and use such of the armed forces, as he considers necessary to enforce those laws or to suppress the rebellion."
10 U.S.C. § 253 (formerly 333) - Interference with State and Federal law:
"The President may use militia or armed forces to suppress insurrection, domestic violence, unlawful combination, or conspiracy if it hinders execution of laws and deprives people of constitutional rights that state authorities are unable, fail, or refuse to protect, or if it opposes or obstructs execution of United States laws."
10 U.S.C. § 254 (formerly 334) - Proclamation to disperse:
Before using military force, the President must issue a proclamation ordering insurgents to disperse and return peaceably to their homes within a limited time.
The original 1792 Militia Act was the foundation, but the current law reflects multiple amendments over more than two centuries."
"You, [Althouse] and many of the commentators over the years, have helped my thinking and been a useful part of this messy internet. So thank you for this daily space to consider and learn."
William50, your 40-40 exercise routine M-W-F is both a life saver and a quality of life changer. Keep it up. And the day--on/day-off sequencing is important. I've been following a similar regimen for the last couple of decades and I'm healthier (no medications), more fit (heart rate, blood pressure, stamina, weight control, etc.), and just plain enjoying life more than any previous time in my life. Thank your wife. She's been your angel. We're both blessed in that regard.
It's kind of amazing to me how often the algorithm serves up pictures of Donald Trump moments after he had been hit by a bullet, and was thus disheveled and emotional, as if they thought that it made him look bad.
Gadfly said- “amid a surge in hostility and threats against judges” "who have moved to obstruct Trump’s agenda.|
Wrong again - liar. Leftists are targeting The Supreme Court. One of your team just got a nice easy 8 years in womens prison for it. A radical leftist just brought bombs to a church where Supreme Court Justices are known to attend.
Do you or you paid to be clueless?
It's not news that MSNBC is a extreme leftist and they often lie. Even I know that Wallace is paid to spin it as 'MAGA is to blame'. Her job is secure.
Not meaning to be insulting or disrespectful but in light of what many are calling an authoritarian movement, it might be wise to step back and unpack Jupiter’s comment at 10:32 PM. On display is a classic “my side/your side” framing, where reasoning starts from allegiance rather than analysis. Notice how the tone shifts from an initially balanced, legal evaluation of Judge Immergut’s restraining order — discussing “persuasive arguments” and “irreparable harm” — to a sweeping moral indictment of the entire Portland city government as “criminals” who should be “arrested, tried, convicted, and imprisoned.”
That’s the pivot point where ideological grooming or worldview reinforcement becomes visible. It’s not just that Jupiter disagrees; it’s that the disagreement escalates into total moral condemnation — implying that lawful governance opposing Trump is criminal. That leap doesn’t emerge from legal reasoning; it comes from narrative conditioning — an internalized “us vs. them” worldview that casts dissenting authority as illegitimate or corrupt.
That’s an important pivot. It’s no longer a debate about the merits of a legal decision, but a declaration that any opposition to one leader or administration is inherently corrupt or criminal. When disagreement itself becomes proof of guilt, we’ve left the realm of law and entered the realm of loyalty.
I’d invite anyone reading — whichever side you lean toward — to think about how easily that mindset can erode the very constitutional limits and due process we all depend on.
I can see that rehajm, particularly when one feels their tribe is being critiqued and I understand how that phrase can come off that way. My intent really was to flag what looks like a shift from legal reasoning to moral condemnation, which seems worth unpacking regardless of which side we’re on.
If we can’t examine how that kind of thinking creeps into our politics — and sometimes even into our own language — then we’re just reinforcing the same division that’s shreading our Constitution and tearing this country apart in real time.
After Burisma Auto-Pen Joe and his Illegal administration - (list of illegal actions to long to place here) there is no stepping back from calling The Democratic Party - Corrupt. The top of the democratic party are calling for violence. From Schumer, on-air MSNBC leftists, Maxine Waters, Jay Jones, Tim Walz, Pritzker... again -these are just a few.
Wallace framed her report on the burned-down house as coming “amid a surge in hostility and threats against judges” who have moved to obstruct Trump’s agenda.
You don't think that's a dishonest smear technique? C'mon.
If you don’t think that the Democrats are corrupted by their control over almost every form of media where consumer choice is restricted, explain why they felt perfectly comfortable looting the treasury on their way out?
I will be happy to defend that assertion against all comers.
What are the “hostility and threats against judge”? Are they from the Administration or people? For instance, Charlie Kirk received all sorts of threats and ultimately hostility from people, but Democrats claim they had nothing to do with it. That is setting aside Democrats running for AG positions in various states and their threats of hostility, because obviously that came to light in the public later. Also setting aside the convicted would be assassin of 3 Supreme Court Justices and comments by Chuck Schumer regarding “reaping the whirlwind”, which actually would suggest a connection between what politicians casually say that might influence people to do hostile acts against justices and judges.
Because of Trump's trade war and reciprocal tariffs, farmers in the Midwest are losing billions of dollars. So what is Trump's solution? To bail them out with 10 billion dollars of our tax revenue. That's right. Instead of China and other countries buying 10 billion dollars of our corn and soybeans, the American taxpayers are going to be forced to pay for 10 billion dollars of our corn and soybeans.

lonejustice hates it when Chinese multinational corporations pay some of the tax burden.
He wants all of the taxes to be on Americans and their employers.
The people who lost their well paying jobs to cheap overseas labor so that corporations could profit, and use their profits to buy agricultural land, don’t matter to lonejustice, who sees every coin as having only one side.
You destroy enough American jobs and you get Trump.
Don't ever let your anger subside or the Democrat party will win. Our nation is teetering on the edge of the abyss and the only thing preventing total collapse is your liver bile.
@Howard. Our anger is justified. The Commies (read: your side) weaponized the feds to go after everything Trump, Catholics, moms at school board meetings. Your defense of this is astonishing. These people, Garland, Wray, Comey et al should be jail. And yet you wave of it off. Disgusting.
The democratic party is a corrupt lying terrorist organization - like the mob. But don't anyone dare show anger after they groomed 20 years old to be roof top killers. Stop that bile - as the corrupt left trash our once great nation.
Schumer is holding our nation hostage with lies. The passed legally BBB - removed funding for illegals - healthcare and otherwise. The left are demanding those funds be re-instated and they are using lies and blackmail to do it. Let the bile flow.
The farmers are being assisted with the tariff money, not the tax money. The tariffs are in place to rectfy huge trade imbalances. China is trying to keep that imbalance going by striking at the farmers so as to create a constituency against the tariffs. And the US tariff money is being used to finance assistance to the farmers so as to defeat that Chinese effort. Then, once trade is evened out the tariffs will go and markets will be in charge again.
It's not easy to correct the consequences of the years of drift that the American elite condemned us to. They sold all our manufacturing and they are now living on the income from investing the money they got from the sale and financing NGOs to quell the rising anger over that basic sin. For all the years 1945-1999 manufacturing and construction were the largest employers is the US. After the 1990s they were suddenly 14 and 15th. Hospitality and health care became the big employers. Trump made his money in construction and he saw first hand the economic destruction and he is acting on our behalf. The grimy anarcho-Commies in Portland and elsewhere are playing fantasy revolution but the reality is they are the sword and shield of those who sold America. Check out their paymasters, you will find the NGOs founded by the elite; check out the source of the elite money and you will find the "elite" are epigoni living on the investmented money made by sale of their family manufacturing business to overseas businesses.

Lonejustice--The current market price of soybeans is higher than it was in November of 2024. Google AI: In November 2024, the average soybean futures price was around $9.84 per bushel. As of October 8, 2025, the price is higher, trading at approximately $10.28 to $10.29 per bushel.

The stories included a lot of "advocates on this side say this while advocates on that side say that." You know, news. And Hitler has left the building - I didn't hear him mentioned once.
wildswan - thanks for that. Hope! Can we really have a non-Soviet(D) corruption Free media?
Althouse, back in 2018 you highlighted Convenience Store Woman by Sayaka Murata. Part of the reason I visit here regularly is those kinds of posts because they expose me to things I wouldn't likely find in my other places. That post got me thinking and connecting to other things I was working on, and became part of a presentation I did later that year at a theology conference.
After a long while of sitting in my folders, it was published as an online essay. Whenever I read through it, I think of this blog.
Here is one of his videos:

@Peachy
CBS changes on a dime? Somebodies are fearing for their phoney baloney jobs.
UK Judges. hmm - sounds like Soros funding.
Thanks Paddy. Will read.

Well, that's what TBH told me.
"…but he’s running for AG!"
Yeah, ponder that. And he'll get elected, too.
https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/world/ukraine-s-air-shield-falters-russia-shifts-missile-tactics-to-confuse-us-made-patriot-defenses/ar-AA1O0B5i
The funny part about these stories is that they claim that the Patriot only became ineffective recently.
Here we go.
’I set the oven to preheating to 350, and started thawing some rye bread.’
Nothing wrong with basil in garlic bread, but rye is a whole ‘nother issue… lol
Paddy O - are you Thomas Oden's son?
@Peachy
No problem — if there’s a request to Congress in the works, that would be a positive step for everyone.
BREAKING: MSNBC is being pressured to fire leftist Nicolle Wallace after she tried to blame a fire at the home of a South Carolina judge on the Trump administration.
"She did this after police ruled it was NOT arson.
She knew what she was doing."
Soviet-dem lying hack.
I don’t know what blueanon is. I have not commented on the fire at the Judge’s home.
No. It wasn't you. It was your ideological twin, the Hag.
@ Eva Marie, you're welcome. Stay safe!

Charlie Crist - Later became a liberal Democrat
Mike bloomberg - Later became a liberal Democrat
Mitt Romney - LOL
Tim Pawlenty - Dropped out of Politics to make $$
Sarah Palin - An actual conservative.
Or, if appropriate, hung by the neck. Until dead.
Sorry. Should be "hanged by the neck". I'm not sure why, but I'm all for respecting the traditional forms.
@William50 8:26PM
Nah, after seeing how murderous the left and their cohort are, I’m gonna stick with shoot to kill.

Obviously, no facts were reported one way or the other by officials, but there have been attacks on Nicole by Demented Don on Truth Social.
Jaq said...

Nicole Wallace shapes her hair as horse blinders every single day for a reason.
hah. a good evergreen quote, applies equally to healthcare and CBS News: Like cancer, you need to cut the whole thing out or it will grow back
Cut deep, cut often…
Not meaning to be insulting or disrespectful always means you mean to be insulting or disrespectful…
I notice that RJW really likes to employ M-dashes.
What’s tearing this country apart is one side lost bigly and now can’t tolerate the result

there is no stepping back from calling The Democratic Party - Corrupt.
The top of the democratic party are calling for violence.

Wallace framed her report on the burned-down house as coming “amid a surge in hostility and threats against judges” who have moved to obstruct Trump’s agenda.
You don't think that's a dishonest smear technique? C'mon.
The serial killer is lecturing on moral tone.
…when did a judge’s role become moved to obstruct Trump’s agenda? Amazing they’re willing to admit it out loud…
If you don’t think that the Democrats are corrupted by their control over almost every form of media where consumer choice is restricted, explain why they felt perfectly comfortable looting the treasury on their way out?
I will be happy to defend that assertion against all comers.

REDDIT killed Charlie Kirk.
It should be nuked.
Dear Alexis Ohanian, founder of REDDIT.

Indeed.

@Howard. Our anger is justified. The Commies (read: your side) weaponized the feds to go after everything Trump, Catholics, moms at school board meetings. Your defense of this is astonishing. These people, Garland, Wray, Comey et al should be jail. And yet you wave of it off. Disgusting.
YOU people are angry, murderous and disgustingly delusional, Howard.
I just like to argue, Howard; it's not bile. I have an overactive bullshit detector, I think.
Trumpeter swans on our lake this morning!
When the time is right Howard can shovel it with the best of em. Isn’t that right, Howard?
