"I checked in on BlueSky to see how people there are reacting to the release of the Israeli hostages, and it’s the eeriest thing."

"It’s not trending. There’s no mention of it on the 'Explore' tab. I started scrolling the feed and went through hundreds of posts without seeing a single one that mentioned it. Instead, it’s all posts about Mamdani, John Oliver’s new episode criticizing Bari Weiss and Jamie Reed, the “No Kings” protest apparently happening this weekend, Taylor Swift, the Epstein Files, complaints about anti-vaxxers, and snarky takes insisting that Antifa doesn’t exist. That's it. It’s honestly blowing my mind...."

Writes Colin Wright, at X — via Instapundit.

I signed up for BlueSky so I could do a search over there. My search word, "hostages." This was the main thing that came up:

I also saw things like "Now release the Epstein file hostages" and "How about the US releasing all the hostages that ICE has recently taken?"

"President Biden" secured the release of a bunch of women and children and elders, the hostages whose presence was too difficult to square with "evil Israeli colonialism" - the ones whose continuing privations, starvation, and eventual death would have had the most deleterious effect on the (still inexplicable, to me) generally positive public opinion vibes about Hamas(!). And accomplished nothing else with regard to the conflict.

I'm glad those people made it home! But it's silly to give "President Biden" credit for doing the harder thing.

As is very evident from our left leaning contributors to the chat, they have but one moral position. Oppose to evil right. Anything good the right does is for evil purposes, so do not acknowledge it. All thigs done to oppose the right are inherently good including rape of women and children, murder assassination, etc. Once you understand that, you understand the left.

Let's test that. What are some things you consider a big win for Democrat presidents? It must be something similar to this, not some partisan bill that was passed that the Democrats thought was a win and the Republicans were against. Something that both parties expressed a desire for, but then the Republicans were strangely silent when the Democratic president pulled it off.

This is why it is my personal theory that Biden and bin Laden were working together. That and the Pakistanis defense ministers admission that they had been doing the US's dirty work in terms of terrorism and Brzezinski's admission that we armed, trained, and funded the Islamic takeover of Afghanistan to give the Soviets agita.

BTW, things are heating up again there, how far is Bagram from the Pakistani border, I wonder? (checks) Not that far...

Trump probably can't believe that Biden surrendered a US base that close to the Chinese border, and not that far from Russia, either.

Ooooh! Geging into “both sides-ism” already, Echoing Mary Beth, how many decades would we have to go back to find something that was a big Democrat win? And you can’t count wildly misnamed legislation such as the Affordable Care Act (which in fact made healthcare unaffordable without massive subsidies from general tax revenues) or the Inflation Reduction Act (which in fact increased inflation), that was passed only because Democrats l controlled the Presidency and both houses of Congress.

'Voluntarily', now that queues something up in my mind. A few years ago, most of the population 'voluntarily' lined up to receive shots, sometimes multiple shots, of an experimental treatment that was called a 'vaccine', once they monkeyed around with the definition of 'vaccine'. They did it 'voluntarily', and for many of them, it was true. Those that didn't volunteer, got special treatment: Public shaming, firing, arrest and prosecution, etc etc.

I think it's time that we treat the political divide in this country the same way that some of us have come to perceive and deal with the COVID authoritarian shutdown: The premise is artificial, the mind games are real. Maintaining an environment like BS that actively promotes a form of lunacy is intentional, a focused effort. A lot of people believe what they're told, and do as instructed, and BS is proof that it can be an effective way to manage a herd. It's not 'voluntary', it's more of a passive, uninformed choice of a mind predisposed to believe.

Are we to believe that if such pictures existed they wouldn't have been plastered on the nightly news for the past five years?

And it is amazing that Epstein continues to hold a higher priority on Bluesky than the release of the hostages and the Middle East peace settlement. They walk among us don't they?

Why can’t the Dems get (similar) wins in foreign policy? My theory is that, as with most everything else, they exalt process over results. Deals like this would spend years in the State Department, allowing every minor potentate there his say and ability to obstruct. We have been hearing for months how Trump and Rubio haven’t been listening to all the experts, nor have they been going through proper channels. The purpose of the State Department under Dem Administrations is to provide sinecures to as many Dem adherents, and as much USAID money possible to their multitude of NGOs. Definitely not to get anything substantial done.

Add to this that their Hamas wing has grown significantly in power, and would have to be coddled. What concessions would be acceptable to Israel, with an opponent whose only goal is to impose River to Sea hegemony?

I was still a teenager at the time of the Camp David accords, so I don't remember the details well, but I do not recall hearing anything but praise for President Carter and his team.

Since then, I am hard pressed to think of anything comparable that a Democrat got done. Clinton benefited from victory in the Cold War and a world wallowing in peace and optimism for a decade. His intervention in the Balkans war was not as definitive a win, and I recall a little isolationist grumbling from the Republicans, but nothing remotely like the venom that the Left continues to heap on Trump despite this great accomplishment. Obama was a lazy nonentity whose only signature achievement, Obamacare, is falling to pieces, and Joe Biden spent four years drooling into a bowl of ice cream.

The Dems have gotten spectacular foreign policy wins over the years. Probably most of these were congruent with the Foggy Bottom staff's goals, so even if the POTUS was cracking the whip, it was to get them to do things they wanted to do anyway. It also helped that the negotiations really weren't uphill battles with the foreigners involved:

Carter - Egypt/Israel peace - helped that he was dealing with two secular nationalist regimes that were tired of fighting each other when they had pressing internal enemies to fight. Established the Sinai multinational observer entity - always a plus for FB.

Clinton - GATT/NAFTA/WTO etc - just ticking off an agenda item for the globalists. Nobody but Perot and other deplorables were objecting. And of course it takes just as many trade specialists to administer new treaties as it did for the old ones, so FB happy.

Clinton - Northern Ireland peace - really just following the momentum of generational change on both sides: it's not like Blair wanted to keep sending Paras and Grenadiers into the fight. Plus the EU made a lot of the Fenians' complaints moot: I don't know why ethnic separatists want to flee their local tyrants and jump into the arms of the Brussels tyrants, but they do.

Obama: Iran nuke deal - nuff said. And the FB'ers naturally salivated at closer relationships with Iran.

An interesting stealth diplomatic success is Plan Colombia, which spanned both parties. No POTUS really made a big deal about it, probably recalling the 80s. Almost a complete deep-state operation, but willingly funded by Congress in the open.

I think your statement of FB's purpose in life during Dem administrations is completely true if you replace 'Dem' with 'GOP.' And yes, Trump has finally figured out how to thwart them. CC, JSM

Aggie at 9:58, thanks for that reminder. The insane people on the internet make me think that people on the blue side really hate the Jews. But in truth, it's a small number of people -- rich people, powerful people -- controlling the airwaves and not allowing pro-Israeli voices on the left to be heard. It's not democratic at all, it's very anti-democratic, the left.

And yes, I agree with you -- many, many pro-Israeli Democrats are being censored on Blue Sky.

Also, I would suggest, there is a far amount of hatred on the left for Israel and the Jews. When you run into one of these people, it's really shocking. And the software is censoring that hate, too.

The software wants to keep Blue Sky "safe" and "nice" and in a place where there are no bad people or bad times. SNL mocks the shit out of Blue Sky, and the left, here.
