Writes Susan Crabtree, in "Secret Service Followed Protocol in Padilla Incident" (Real Clear Politics).
"'Any sudden movement towards a protectee that feels threatening, especially when that person has not been identified, the policy is 100% to prevent further escalation or movement toward Noem,' said a source in the Secret Service community.... After the two assassination attempts against Trump, agents are highly attuned to aggressive behavior and working to ensure they’re not involved in any security lapses...."
Apparently, they didn't know who he was, but what if they had? Is he saying he deserves special treatment? The "Don't You Know Who I Am?!" argument ought to fail.
The protectee was protected by those entrusted with protecting her.

Padilla was just advocating for the illegal aliens who voted for him.
Grandstanding gets its just reward, and Noem's response after is also worthy of note: She reached out and met - but off camera and focused on the grievance, without giving the lout any airtime.
I wonder how many of our esteemed opposition are going to be prominent features in the 'No Kings' tantrums today? Prediction #1: It's going to be disappointing to the underwriters. Prediction #2: If their local tantrum looks like it's anything less than camera ready, our opposition won't be making a strong showing to offer their endorsements. There's no percentage on dining out on 'causes'.
This whole thing seems contrived to me. Padilla knows how it works. He knows those agents have to do their job and what that looks like.
He is showing that he's willing to ruin those agents' careers to further this 'Trump is a dictator' narrative and not give it a second thought. Despicable.
He acted like an asshole (which comes naturally to him) and got treated like an asshole. He deserved more than he got.
Isn't it amazing how different the R and D Senators are? The D senators are out there in public, confronting Trump employees, showing up and shouting at Trump Cabinet members, and voting as a bloc 47-0 against every Trump nominee. And constantly pushing their leftwing agenda.
Meanwhile, the R Senators either say nothing, or help the Democrat by voting for Biden's nominees and blocking Trump's or they drop anonymous comments in the media about how much they hate MAGA. They're simply AWOL in pushing any issue the Republican voters want. Or in fighting the D's.
What a time we live in where the person physically threatening a protectee is in any way considered the victim for being stopped without injury. Democrats are the lords of Bizarro World.
Look, he’s not above the law.
A Democrat who is not above the law? How’d that happen?
Noem's security detail probably hops to and toes the line for her. They remember what happened to Cricket.
The bum Padilla replaced the bum Harris. Continuity of Office, Democrat-style.
Padilla(D) launched into fund-raising right after his stunt.
As for Padilla, this is just another childish stunt by a DC politican. But today, that seems to be par for the course. The R's behave like that, but they're not any better. What could more childish than Senator Paul whining about not being invited to a picnic. Or Tillis, refusing to allow a Trump nominee to be DC Federal Attorney because he's butt hurt (supposedly) over J6.
In fact their entire reaction to J6, where they all cried and ran away, or sreeched "We're all going to die" - just shows what clowns they are.
Noem knows what to do with mutts. Padilla screwed the pooch and got his 15 minutes of fame.
I'm starting to wonder if at least some of the motivation for 'No Kings' is that the Progressive Democrats have been so smacked around and whipsawed by their own bad polling data, that they're really conducting a nationwide 'show up and be counted' type poll, just to see how they really stand.
she shoots varmints like that, so he's lucky in that regard,
its the same rentamob that followed kamala like Johnny Appleseed,
"This whole thing seems contrived to me. Padilla knows how it works. He knows those agents have to do their job and what that looks like."
Yeah, it was a stunt.
Look, he’s not above the law.
Biden’s autopen would beg to differ.
Who did he think he was, the King?
In addition to the Susan Crabtree column, I highly recommend Ruy Texeria’s latest column, also on Real Clear Politics. Padilla isn’t mentioned specifically, but Ruy does list the continuing follies of the democrats in an even-handed style.
Never mentioned, he's a big guy, 6' 2", and looks like he weighs about 200 pounds. When a guy like that gets frisky security pays attention.
they want to normalize attacks on gop officials,
it would take several harpoons to take him down
Ignoring the two MN Dem lawmakers who were killed with the families overnight, I see.
Were there deaths? I haven't seen any updates yet, just stories that the politicians and their families were attacked, lone gunman on the loose. It's a terrible, terrible thing.
"and looks like he weighs about 200"
Try 230+
Like Secret Service agents, the median voter also does not recognize Alex Padilla, so the tackling and cuffing of a US senator may not be the political winner Democrats think it is.
He was a “sitting senator” they shouted.
No, he was a “face planted on the floor” senator. Made my day.
The video of Padilla incident wasn't captured by the media. Members of Padilla’s staff filmed the response and then gave the footage to the Press outside the federal building.
A CBS report

This isn't even a tough call, which means Democrats will reflexively take the wrong side. TDS causes rapid deterioration of IQ. They're almost making things too easy.
Yancy at 9:41am
LOL!
"Senator Padilla has the floor."
-stolen from Powerline TWIP
My comment above is parody. But I also think the median voter does recognizes excessive force and does not like it.
So, let's say he'd been wearing his Senate pin and had identified himself. And let's say he had continued to close on her, at speed, acting threatening.
Is it out of the question that a "Sitting Senator" could snap and try to hurt a Trump appointee?
Is it?
I could see, under the above scenario, the Secret Service taking one tiny bit more care in stopping and removing him... but that's all.
Kak - a - phony
voters are flocking to giving a crap about the narrative spin - created by Padilla and the Soviet-Democrap press.
Excessive force kakaphony says. Did you watch the video? The halfwit was the size of an NFL linebacker and was resisting all the way.
"Two Minnesota Lawmakers Shot, One Just Voted Against Free Healthcare for Illegals"
hmmmm.
one of the victims melissa hartmann voted to repeal benefits for illegals,
Did Padilla break a nail? Poor above the law, baby.
I was surprised he wasn't tased. If he were treated as others have been, he probably would have been. Truthfully I initially thought he was just drunk. Had to laugh at some references to "senior" senator from California I have seen. While technically correct, he has only been senator since January 2021. Since he has indicated his intent was to interrupt Noem's press conference, he may want to avoid Congresswoman Sanchez who lectured Sec Bessent about not trying to talk over women.
Padilla is clearly an American Sakharov and should be given the Nobel Prize.
"Padilla... actually received preferential treatment by not being arrested and jailed for his menacing display."
He receive preferential treatment by not being shot dead.
But I also think the median voter does recognizes excessive force and does not like it.
They do, and they saw that was not excessive force. I kind of wish they had tased him so we could have a discussion on whether that was excessive force.
Yeah, not only was Padilla interrupting and intimidating a woman, he was stealing airtime from the real journalists in the room. Two more examples of the left not really believing what it professes.
Also, could you imagine Norm charging the dais at a congressional hearjng? She'd be the first prisoner of the Capitol Jail in over 100 years.
Finally, these Congress people who think their oversight powers entitle them to barge into any government space any time, need to study history. The last time in the English speaking world a legislature thought they could do that, it led.to years of chaos.
I think the Dutch are getting ready to sail into Chesapeake Bay...
JSM
I had never heard of him prior to this stunt. In fact, headlines gave me the impression he was a state senator
@Marcus, you misheard - he's a Senator, and he's in such a state ! (hand flip)
strange stuff in MN:
via "the mirror" - ugh
Suspect escaped in exchange of gunfire between officers and suspect
Suspect was in a 'law enforcement vehicle' with sirens on when actual officers arrived at Hortman's home
Police observed shooter was wearing police-looking 'vest, with taser'
Unnamed suspect managed to 'flee' though 'back of home' in gunfire exchange
Police have siezed the car suspect was driving during the time of shootings and uncovered manifesto
Manifesto named 'a number' of other lawmakers, resulting in heightened security through the state
Suspect on foot
-who called 9/11?
-How did this guy get a police vehicle - or a police "looking" vehicle?
-He left a manifesto?
But I also think the median voter does recognizes excessive force and does not like it.
See, even Kak can make an occasional joke
When law enforcement protect R's / GOP - leftists are angry.
When law enforcement protect D's = it's all good.
In MN - WTF?
MN to cancel their "no kings" day of rage.
“Apparently, they didn't know who he was, but what if they had? Is he saying he deserves special treatment?”
If they knew his identity and that he was an elected official they would assume he wasn’t a nut case intending bodily harm.
https://x.com/Rightanglenews/status/1933879882976522635
Until this happened, I couldn't tell you the name of the other senator from California; much less what he looked like.
Today that assumption goes out the window because anyone can impersonate an official and do grave bodily harm.
Margot Cleveland
@ProfMJCleveland
"Can we now acknowledge why secret service, FBI, and other security personal protecting public officials can't just say "well, okay then," when someone screams they're a Senator?"
Tim Walz(D) is saying today:
"Peaceful discourse is the foundation of our democracy."
Terrorist Tim, who almost daily calls for violence against Trump and Trump's supporters - and delights if Tesla's stock dips down - is now calling for "Peaceful discourse"
I think I saw him once before, in some temper tantrum, but he didn't look like a bum then
pipe down Tampon,
We got a guerrilla for jail
Padilla Guerilla for jail
Won't you try him
Convict him and fly 'im
Straight into the Jail!
Don't you want a little Padilla you can call your own,
A Padilla who'll be with you when you're all alone?
How much is the Padilla in the window?
Take our advice,
At any price,
A Guerrilla like Padilla is mighty nice!
Guerrilla, Padilla Guerrilla for Jail!!
JSM
I have a Feeling Minnesota is just a jumpstart for the coming skirmish.
JSM highlights 800 lb. simian in the room. Good show!
sadly so, that this lump of rancid sweet potato (boniato) rose to the top of the heap, along with keith ellison,
"I have a Feeling Minnesota is just a jumpstart for the coming skirmish."
So your first murders of Democratic legislators and their spouses, but not the last, Iman?
highly attuned to aggressive behavior
Democrat leaders have been arguing for more aggressive behavior towards Trump and members of his administration. Tim “I use the National Guard against home owners on their porch” Walz called for bullying Trump. The people acting like thugs are progressives.
Democrats used to beat Republicans with gutta percha canes to keep their mastery over their servant class. Now they shoot, loot, and burn.
The S.S. should tased that motherfucker immediately, and then charged him with disorderly conduct.
Iman: "Feeling Minnesota"
ISWYDT.
JSM
No, mark… just the start of the Markxists fevered attempts to violently overthrow our government.
Next time Padilla speaks there should be a man in a suit running toward him, shouting "This is MAGA country." As security drags him away, the man shouts: "I'm a US Senator." Should security let go?
The two shot MN legislators are both DFL. Both houses of the MN legislature have 1-vote majorities: the Senate for DFL, the House for the GOP.
The shooter may have been trying to do some DIY rebalancing.
I have been wondering if someone would do this sooner or later.
If lone wolves took out a bunch of D's, the R's could pounce on the resulting vacuum, depending on the laws of the jurisdiction wrt vacant seats.
But anyone who did this would be obviously crazy: no R leadership would so dishonorably take advantage of such a tragedy.
If it happened the other way around, though....
JSM
It's hilarious that this idiot replaced the laughing hyena in the US Senate.
What is it with Democrat beta males?
JSM, he's more gorilla than guerilla, but he's still a Padilla.
I was fair impressed with the much smaller security guy bum-rushing him.
Mark said...
"I have a Feeling Minnesota is just a jumpstart for the coming skirmish."
"So your first murders of Democratic legislators and their spouses, but not the last, Iman?"
Turns out, Mark. The killer was one of your friends.
Just the same as when the person at the door says "I'm a police officer", someone that says they are a Senator should always be trusted and given leeway to enter and proceed as they wish.
Wikipedia: “José Padilla (born October 18, 1970), also known as Abdullah al-Muhajir… or Muhajir Abdullah, is a United States citizen who was convicted in a federal court of aiding terrorists.“
No relations… unless professor Henry Louis Gates Jr. gets involved. 😉
This whole thing seems contrived to me.
That's because it was.
So your first murders of Democratic legislators and their spouses, but not the last, Iman?
You may want to shut your piehole on this one.
Padilla is a Democrat U.S. Senator. He is more important than a mere Secretary of Homeland Security in a Republican Administration.
I haven't looked into this, though I did see the video. There was no lunging at Noem, the audio make it seem like she is not nearby. But there are a ton of security people around Padilla.
My assessment is that these security guys figured that they were dealing with an illegal person, or they were dealing with an illegal-supporting person because the dude is not white. So of course they would do this stuff to him. Their job is, precisely, doing this stuff to brown people.
Duh.
@le Douanier - then, that assessment (projection) would make you the racist, not so?
His being "brown" had little to do with it.
He's big, he's shouting , he's angry and he's advancing toward the Secretary. And then he ignores SS calls to back up or identify himself. Later, as if he's some dumb thug at a police road stop, Pallia decides to "clash with police" and shout "Dont you know who I am?"
Too bad they didn't tase the clown.
Every discussion that involves someone who Jewish or some racial or sexual minority ends with some dummy (usually a Leftist) claiming it racism/sexism/homophobia etc. was involved. I find it boring and tiresome. And dishonest.
Padilla acted like a dick and then claims victimhood?
That makes him a dicktim.
We have a new lefty proving what lefties are, racists. All they see is the color of someone’s skin and assumes others like them judge what happens next based on the skin color. We don’t, le douche, but obviously you do.
Padilla should have been booked and held for 4 years before gettinfg a court date.
fuk a court date just deport him to a foreign land and claim he is a terrorist,,thats how ya do it now! fuk a court date ,due process thats all old news..
I'm sure it played out just as he hoped it would. If he'd simply asked her his question politely, who would care?
For context le Douanier lives on Bainbridge Island, which is without doubt the whitest place in the state of Washington.
“Until this happened, I couldn't tell you the name of the other senator from California; much less what he looked like.”
When his Junior Senator from his state is the odious, lying, POS Adam Schifty, whose arrogant lying drove the Dems’ dishonest RussiaGate attacks on Trump, etc, no wonder he has a problem being recognized. Schifty is an extremely hard act to follow.
