BREAKING: Andrew Cuomo has conceded meaning former rapper and socialist Zohran Mamdani will win the New York City Democratic primary.

The 33-year-old state rep has bold new plans for New York City, including city owned grocery stores.

I think we can drop the "possibly" from the equation. Also, Florida is closed. We're full. Please don't move here.
Well, I guess I'll never see New York City. Escape from New York wasn't an instruction manual.
So:
- likely Muslim mayor of NYC is planning to loot the rich
- More than half the Democrat House caucus had to vote down their impeachment stunt
- The DNC is in the middle of imploding
- Trump has called for and gotten ceasefire from a nuclear power. Twice.
- And of course President Trump won the 2024 election despite multiple assassination attempts and "felony" kangaroo courts
... He's supposedly below 40% approval? Get outta here.
It's a disaster for NYC. They'll get what they voted for, good and hard!
THIS time government price controls are SURE to work! Because THIS time we, the adults who are back in the room, will do it the smart way.
Sorry for posting this video I posted in another thread, as a warning to the right to not copy Democrats, but his video applies here too. Especially the part where the Democratic Party political discourse has become so restricted that their politicians can't even address situations as they occur except through using one of the very few possibilities the lefty framework allows, in order to avoid banishment. This makes them sound like morons to anybody outside of their tight little circle. But in NYC? The guy is a shoo-in.
Research Reveals Leftist Thought Much Less Diverse Than Right
They have trapped themselves I a box. Other than the great graph at the start, this references a funny article in lefty media about how "Blue Sky" has morphed into "Blue Scold."
Three flagship cities in the U.S:
LA with Cuba trained Karen Bass as mayor, Chi-Town with union thug Brandon Johnson at the helm, and now NYC with a socialist leading city down the drain.
Jaq @7:04, I started watching that video thinking the man on the left of the split screen would eventually be revealed also to be the woman on the right (in drag), who would "react" to things he said in dramatic and entertaining fashion. I studied their jawlines etc. and was like, "Yup, that's him all right" - but no!
She could still be his sister.
I'll listen to it while walking the dog this morning - the two of them come across, in manner and appearance, as very much parts of the urban monoculture they say they oppose, so I'm interested to hear how they got there.
Deblasio was only able to bring the city back to the early 90s this clown will take it back to the 70s. Looking forward to squeegee guys and graffiti , make Taxi Driver reality again
Mike Johnson needs to get off his lazy ass and pass laws that the Federal goverment cannot bailout morally and fiscally bankrupt socialist cities, like Biden did with Chicago in 2020.
If NYC wishes to spiral, let it.
At least with LA and Hollywood, nature let it burn and so did the democrats, to the joy of every blue collar worker in the country.
Hamas’ DC PR firm done good! There’s really no stopping them now…
It means the Reps hold the House next year, but at the price of our biggest cities being destroyed. Rural and exurban cons like to say they don't care about the cities, but only a fool really wouldn't care.
Crosstabs that I saw somewhere (I forget where) indicate that he lost minorities and low income voters but got his main support from, you guessed it, affluent college educated white women.
Sheesh.
I remember in the past 5 or so years I lived in NYC looking at who was running for Mayor. It stunned me at the low quality of the candidates. And I figured it didn’t bode well for the future. DeBlasio did his best to ruin the city but he was ultimately just too lazy to get it done. This guy doesn’t seem lazy. The non-Manhattan borough denizens will be the ones to suffer. As usual.
this is GREAT.. for the Hollywood film industry.
Think of the GREAT NYC movies..
the '70s NYC made for excellent movies, as did the 1930s gansterland
With NYC now New Baghdad, ROLL 'em, and ACTION!
The world's Democratic Socialists have the zealous, arrogant souls of 20th century Communists/Socialists. All the Greta-von-Blue-Octopus followers demand to reinvent these systems.
After the lessons of the bloody 20th century, the odds are that these zealots will spend 40 years in the wilderness as mostly ineffective. They'll be known for local wins and control (NYC, Chicago), ineffective revolutions that backfire (Gaza 2023), and random t*rrorism. See the airplane hijackings and urban b*mbings of the 1970s.
California spent 10 years allowing shoplifting to run wild, and most residents seemed to stare at their smartphones as their cities fell apart. To the extent that the upper classes with real power stay in remote work and the deep suburbs, they'll leave the cities to the economic losers of the day (i.e., people with limited income, limited assets, young, dependent on government aid, drug/sex mafia). This points to urban abandonment, avoidvance, and bleak Haiti-like futures for all such cities. While the Haitian slave revolt drove the colonial government away, it also drove international investments away. See Detroit. See Cuba.
In 50 years, this group may attract enough people and gain enough power to enact a new global class-race-green woke genocide. History doesn't repeat but it rhymes.
Developers are clearing piney woods in St. Johns county as quickly as they can find the labor to get 'er done. It's hard to keep up with the financial employers that keep bailing out of NYC and moving operations to our sunny shores.
The New Yorkers they employ used to stay in NY and find another job, but more and more now move with the company, especially those with families to raise. Their votes are clearly missed.
NYC has to hit rock bottom before it changes.
Mamdani is also a genuine political talent. A lot of voters aren't ideologically "pure". They want to vote for someone who is able to speak and act like a human being.
The Democratic dinosaurs are only part of the problem. Kamala Harris was in her political prime, age wise. However, the fact that she had no core convictions was a major problem.
There are way too many Democrats who have to be told what they stand for by political consultants working for various corporate lobbies. Authenticity is important too. There are also a lot of Democratic voters who are tired of losing. It isn't just a matter of re-treads either. The problem is a large part of the Democratic consulting class and the influence of major donors makes these candidates a much harder sell.
The Clinton formula worked in a world where voter enthusiasm was low, where the national trend was in favor of movement conservatism, and where getting 50.1% of the vote was fine. Post 9/11, Iraq War, the Great Financial Crisis and two Trump presidencies, we are in a different reality than the 1990s
We basically have a party that has been fighting reality so long and so hard that they don’t know what the fuck they’re doing.
The city went downhill after Rudy Giuliani. The bottom leveled off with a former police commissioner, who turned out to be corrupt. And now the big apple is back to digging for lower depths of misery.
Will the city owned and operated supermarkets be open on holidays? 24 hours? Will they go after shoplifters?
Wait. Bloomberg was actually very good too. It’s feast or famine with the leadership of NYC. They are in a long famished spell.
This primary result should pull the rug right out from under Mike Lawler et al, who are feverishly trying to get the SALT limit raised to at least 40k or more, up from the current 10k, in the Big Beautiful Bill. Why should the rest of us pay for the insanity of NYC/NY governance?
“ The Democratic Party is in big trouble! It has the old guard and the possibly too crazy progressives.”
Thanks this is better than Folgers in the morning.
If you thought DeBlasio was New York hitting rock bottom, Mamdani just told Bill to hold his beer. This is going to be fun.
If you pay any attention to the ins and outs of what is going on in Chicago under Brandon Johnson, you'll get a whiff of what's next for New York. But just a whiff. Unlike Johnson, who is a staunch socialist, but soft spoken and looking like a man who woke up one day and found himself unexpectedly in charge, Zohran is all about showtime. He looks and sounds like a guy who was going to be selling something in his life. And like so many politicians, the initial exposure seems palatable to enough people who like the 'feel' of how he's saying things without really deeply considering what he means, or who he is.
I look forward to seeing the new New York, like I used to look forward to the next season of Game of Thrones. The downside for those of us in Florida? I trust we'll be seeing another wave of NY plates running around here within 2 years.
It totally makes sense that Zohran is a rapper. What a talent!

"City owned grocery stores"
They're doomed.
When will we see the first "Zohran '28!" sign?

If you think that is in any way relevant to my point, then you need to start over and think again.
A deeply flawed, unlikeable candidate vs a nice fellow with the brand of politics that lost the last national election ....
Democrats are inordinately averse to learning from experience.

Gold
The really scary thing is that a 2028 Zohan ticket would be guaranteed somewhere around 45% of the national vote.
New York is about to get what they're voting for, good and hard. They gone from 1984 to Animal Farm
State owned Grocery. Bread lines!
Nice commie move there - f-head.
The old-guard of the Democratic party haven't yet realized they have lost control. Soon, their phone calls won't be returned, their policy proposals will be tossed in the trash, and their names will be removed from the "Invite" list to all receptions and other events. The monsters they've created have now taken over and those such as Schumer are going to be consumed or pushed over a cliff. You know AOC is thrilled. She knows now that she can easily beat Schumer.
When the Chicago Tribune does an op-ed warning NYC not to follow in their footsteps and elect a socialist as mayor, you know it must be pretty bad in the Windy City. Unfortunately, Chicago's warning went unheeded.
Should non-NYC residents care about this? How would NYC becoming a third-world sh**hole like London affect America?
Well it's totally understandable because Muslim societies and socialist societies are the clear winners everywhere in the world in terms of human flourishing and individual happiness especially for the minority groups living within them.
And Mamdani is both! He's like getting 2 scoops of your favorite organic, plant-based, fairly traded, minority owned ice cream!
I predict Adams wins re-election if Cuomo decides not to run in November on a minor party ticket.
Don't worry, scumbags of the Democrat Party. You still have fellow scumbags of the GOP like Lisa Murkowski to support and defend you. Together you can maintain your holds on power, resist oversight, and defy the will of the citizens.
On the plus side: now when you loot a grocery store you don't have to feel guilty.
"This stuff belongs to us all, so I'm just taking my own stuff."
I expect it will be very nice shopping there...
For about a week.
I'd think twice before drawing any kind of a line from this result to Zohran's chances in November. Because of NY's multi-line ballot, Cuomo will appear on the Fight and Deliver Party line even though he lost the Democrat primary. Adams is also running in November as an independent. If the Zohran opposition can't coalesce around a single candidate he might split the vote again but the real election in November is not done via RCV. Cuomo or Adams only have to come up with more votes than Zohran without having to worry about an RCV process.
My daughter moved to NYC a few years ago. She is doing well and enjoying the Big City Life. I was curious what she was seeing about the mayoral race, and so broke our “no talking about politics” rule.
She replied that there wasn’t much talk about the race amongst her friends, but she was seeing lots of support for Mamdani on social media and ads plastered everywhere for him. She further said that given what she’s seen for how men treat women in business, there’s no way she’d vote for Cuomo who got kicked out of office for sexual harassment. She thinks NYC “absolutely” needs to be more affordable, so she’d vote for Mamdani – if she’d found the time to register to vote (major eye roll on dad’s part).
I texted back that Mamdani is proposing raising taxes on business and those making $1 million or more by some $10 billion. I asked whether businesses and the well-off would stick around for that or would head to more favorable locations.
I never heard back.
Paraphrasing FL Governor Ron DeSantis: “If Zohran wins the price real estate in West Palm Beach will skyrocket.”
NYC supermarket magnate John Catsimatidis said he will close his grocery stores and move to New Jersey.
The hollowing out NYC will continue at an accelerating pace.
I keep thinking that there's a family out there, somewhere in America, named Plissken who are just welcoming a new baby boy that will one day be know as "Snake".

You'll pry my HEB from me from my cold dead hands. That goes for Buccee's too.
On the other hand, why stop at Grocery Stores? If the idea is to make food accessible to the population, what if they don't know how to cook? Shouldn't restaurants be government owned as well? NYC can make it the law that all establishments that sell food are now a division of the government. I challenge Zohran to make that his position. Let's see how socialist he really is.
Of course, that would mean no Chick-Fil-A's and Whataburger's for NYC, but then they probably don't know what they are missing anyway.

I'd assume, that you can walk right in, whenever you'd want?
Why have hours? Why have staff*? if people aren't going to be paying anything?
staff* I suppose you'd NEED to have staff, so that you could write them checks.. But, the staff could Obviously work from home
No one knows anything about him at this point. Why couldn't a black, former cop and current mayor win as an independent? It's not like Adams is a revolting Republican.
Curtis Sliwa draws support in the teens in his previous runs for NYC mayor. If he can bump that up to 20% would he have a chance with a widely-split vote?

“Too crazy” fits. We are definitely living through Heinlein’s Crazy Years.
NYC supermarket magnate John Catsimatidis is quite diversified. He owns a crude oil refinery in NW PA.

This self-destructive tendency of Democrat voters is moving us to a time when martial law will have to be imposed upon our biggest cities. Not during Trump's term, but within political sight. It may be driven by flyover Democrats who abandon the party and move to centrist MAGA or independent candidates.
Cuomo:COVID as Teddy Kennedy:Chappaquiddick. Plus, Mamdani:Cuomo as JFK:old policitians.
If the old guard in the Democrat Party had a clue and/or was still in control, Cuomo never would have been the D mainstream candidate. They'd have shoved him off the ballot.
Gosh, talk about overreaction. LOL. First, in every other way NYC is about commie/left as you can get. And its the same way about race. How many white males (non-Jews) live in NYC? Two?
So, the only Mandingo is going to do is bring a little economic fairness to NYC. You know, the kind Democrats talk about, but never do. Unless you're one of the top 5 percent who own an Apartment building or make over 1 million a year, you wont suffer at all and will probably benefit.
And if taxes are too high (boo hoo) - then they can leave.

@StephenM
The commentary about NYC Democrats nominating an anarchist-socialist for Mayor omits one point: how unchecked migration fundamentally remade the NYC electorate. Democrats change politics by changing voters. That’s how you turn a city that defined US dominance into what it is now.
Caught Mamdani's victory speech on TV this morning. It was interesting how he talked about stoping ICE raids so that New Yorkers could have an "affordable" New York City. I kept expecting him to jump up on a cotton bale, pull out a banjo and sing Dixie.
Gosh, talk about overreaction. LOL. First, in every other way -except econcomics - NYC is about commie/left as you can get. And its the same way about race. How many white males (non-Jews) live in NYC? Two?

BTW, the losertarians and conservatives never get it. The liberal/left don't care if you leave and move somewhere else. This ridiculous "We'll they'll be sorry, I"m leaving" - is giving them what they want. The Governor of NY practically told Pro-lifers to leave the state.
The Whites and conservatives that fled California did just what the Left wanted. The liberal/leftists in Malibu and SF are doing just fine and wish more of Cons would leave.
"former rapper and socialist." I take it "former" is not a compound modifier and only applies to the rapper part.
GRW3 said, "This self-destructive tendency of Democrat voters is moving us to a time when martial law will have to be imposed upon our biggest cities."

The only difference I see between this guy and other Democrats is that this guy is a Muslim. Stop being racists, Democrats. I mean this seriously. If this was a white guy with a Brooklyn accent no Democrat would be upset. One of the reasons no Democrat would be upset is that Democrats say a lot of things but these are virtue signals.
All these pro socialism millionaires with several houses (Bernie Sanders). Or all these women’s lib producers with a casting couch. And Democrats understand this. Politics is theater. Say one thing, do another.
But this Zohran guy - he’s a crazy. Why? Because Democrats are fearful that he actually means what he says.
Vote Curtis Sliwa in the general election.
I didn't know that Adams is running as an idependent for re-election. So NYC will have a choice. Who knows who they will choose.
Shorter anti-Semite RC - 'It's all cool man. chill' homey be my commie.'
Always good to chase out the wealthy people who are contributing to the tax base.
I keep seeing the comment that Democrats are not learning from their experiences. Of course they are. They are fine with these results. Their biggest concern is that Democrat voters might start learning from their experiences. Look to the socialist countries to see the progression. The leaders stay the same. Corporations decide to leave. Then, rich people leave. Then, talented professionals leave. Then, those in the middle class that can, leave. Those that cannot, join the lower classes. But through it all, the leadership style consolidates, the ruling circle gets ever smaller, but the decision-making stays the same. Does that sound like Venezuela? Does it also sound like California? It's hierarchy, not democracy. Nancy Pelosi is having a very good year in the stock market.
Lets see if we can get this to work
Fuck the Zohran and fuck his Intifada

I am looking forward to city run grocery stores. I doubt any socialist is competent to run a grocery store. If NYC is lucky, the attempt will die before it starts. If not, I will be entertained.
The left does well at creating starvation, it is one of its core skills. Other demonstrated skills are murder, slavery, and poverty.
All Adams needs is the Cuomo voters and the NYC Republicans.
Current communist and former rapper
If Cuomo, Adams, and Sliwa are all on the ballot versus Mamdani, Mamdani will win easily. The opposition needs to coalesce around one alternative, but they won't.
American Socialists are not even competent socialists.
They are just greedy grab-and-go theft-socialists - with glitter bomb attitudes.
While Actual Socialist-lite countries - like Norway and Sweden showcase clean and tidiness- and functioning infrastructure - they are abandoning some of the bad socialisms because they are no longer workable - & have turned into destructive forces that inevitably occur when you run out of other peoples money. Too many takers.
I wonder if this glitter bomb extremist will de-fund the police some more? That's always a good move.
I already avoid NYC at all costs, now I don't think I will ever go there again. We spent a lot of time, and money there over the years. Democrats destroyed it, and now the Socialists want to "obliterate" it even more. They can have it. Besides. I remember when Cuomo told us that Conservatives don't belong there. He built that!! Enjoy the downfall Andrew!!
Data Republican: (Trump - are you listening?)
"The single biggest step we can do to slay the Leviathan is to attack their incubators - the universities.
University funding is a big part of the "soft power" playbook for both Western and anti-Western nations. Career activists are groomed in universities. Zohran Mamdani, Karen Bass, Tim Walz, many others.
Eliminate taxpayer subsidies to universities. Restrict federal student loans. Pass a law banning all foreign money going into universities. That will end the career activist pipeline."
1) The New Jersey and Connecticut real estate markets should do very well over the next couple of years. Not to mention Florida, the Carolinas, Texas, Pennsylvania...
2) Will Trump be able to resist the demands to rescue New York City in the next mayoral election? He will be 83 and out of office in 2029.
Chicago, Boston, Los Angeles, Seattle, Portland, Oakland elect DSA mayors.
NYC......."hold my beer".
Of course shoplifting from NYCGroceries will be punished!

Also, where in the wide wide world of sports has there ever been a government-run grocery store that operates efficiently?
The Democrat party is just a get rich quick.
scam...
GRW3 said, "This self-destructive tendency of Democrat voters is moving us to a time when martial law will have to be imposed upon our biggest cities."
Expanding on this a little:
We're years probably, not decades, from one of these major metros needing a federal bailout. Their states (especially IL, CA) won't be able to handle it. This and future administrations need to politically prepare themselves for an obliterating "no" to those requests, which are looking like a practical guarantee.
If cities like NYC are going to keep voting themselves into a hole, the rest of the country demands they be made to stay there.
Indeed- New York City is going full Idiocracy.
He's such a nice, sincere young man, not at all like those nasty socialists in other countries. I'm sure that this time it will be different. The homeless will finally be able to get on the bus, and there won't be anyone to tell them to get off Fast food workers will be able to afford to eat at their places of employment. No one else, but the fast food workers are a big market. What bliss to be young and alive and a fast foot worker at this moment.
Charlie said, "Also, where in the wide wide world of sports has there ever been a government-run grocery store that operates efficiently?"
I like the way I saw it elsewhere last night: "Because everyone knows those greedy grocery stores with their super-juicy 2% profit margin needs to be collectivized."
Gold.
Truth be told, how much damage can he do? He's too young and inexperienced as a politician to be lining his own pocket, or to have a power base of cronies to bring with him. Sure, there'll be some wreckage, but Tammany Hall will ensure that the whelp doesn't get too far out of hand and ruin the take.
This is the end of Cuomo's career. Honestly, I'm sorry to see him go. I liked him better than most of the other Democrats. Nadler, James, Hochul, Barr get much further up one's nose than Cuomo. I guess we've got to pin our hopes on Adams now.
Not now, but downstream I smell a federal bailout of these Democratic self-made disaster zones. We’ll all end up on the paying end sooner or later.
Imagine a grocery store run by the DMV. Take a number and have a seat.
The endorphin bonanza for voting socialist must be amazing.
If Mamdani were to win, I have this vision of Charlton Heston at the end of Planet of the Apes.
Free everything, courtesy of the City of New York. What could possibly go wrong?
Vice President JD Vance congratulates Mamdani on BlueSky:
"Congratulations to the new leader of the Democratic Party - @zohranamdani.bsky.social......"
I've lived and worked in or near NYC for nearly my whole life. Even in the bad old days of mid-1970s, there was a feeling that despite all the nonsense, people made their adjustments, and somehow the city managed to keep working, at least under the surface.
By the end of De Blasio's term in 2021, I think that old conventional wisdom was in jeopardy. Adams managed to stabilize things, but if Mamdani winds in November, I think New York City finally will pass the point of no return and become just another rapidly decaying city. Nothing special about it, except maybe its history. Unfortunately, even if there were a 2025 version of Giuliani to save the day, the people who would vote for such a candidate fled the city long ago.
I imagine a Soviet - er I mean.. Democratic Grocery Store - everything is free - and the shelve are bare.
Then the anger arrives, on large pallets - and the entire store is burned down.
Like all leftie plans the expectation is money will magically appear to indulge all their projects. Funny, it usually does until it doesn’t. Ask Detroit…
The rap video and the changing accents make for easy fodder for those disposed to not like the guy.
It is his policies, as stated, that should terrify New Yorkers.

I went to a DMV in New York City once. There were no chairs. Everybody had to stand in line and wait. Forever.
Unfortunately, I'm beginning to see that this is evidence that "The Great Replacement" strategy by the left is actually working. Diabolically brilliantly, in fact. And those of you saying or thinking, "Let the NYC fools get it good and hard, I'm OK out here away from it all" better wake up and see where this is all going.
Note that this is now the 7th of our largest cities (NYC, LA, Chicago, Seattle, Portland, San Francisco, Minneapolis) that is arguably "enemy-held territory" - if not openly communist, then openly hostile and actively fighting federal authorities. And here is how the strategy works, step by step.
- Flood the biggest cities with massive numbers of illegal aliens
- Lavish them with free housing, food, legal, education, and medical benefits
- De-criminalize violent behavior by these aliens
- Drive out the normal, law-abiding citizens with the violence and chaos
- Achieve super-majorities in these cities (so they can "legally" vote in ANY radical person, policy, or law they want - see California)
- Use these power centers in each state to take over the entire state and essentially use the rural areas as "cash cows"
No joke. It's clearly happening exactly like this. Better come up with a counter-strategy to flip the above script. Fast.
I'm sure that the government stores will be fully stocked with fasting supplies for Ramadan.
Don't a lot of middle middle-class on down in NYC get their groceries from Bodegas? Are those going to be 'collectivized' or will they have to compete now with these City-owned Grocery Stores? Will the bodegas get to buy on the same volume and credit extended to the City's stores, or no?
If I was a bodega-owner, I'd be inclined to dust off my pitchfork and fill a purchase order for torches...
Congress needs to go on a Salt free diet.
Financial markets need to act on the fact that location (in this case NYC) is not really important to their work.
If you can get out of NYC, get out now.
Quit counting illegals for apportionment (I keed when I suggest perhaps we could consider the new 3/5 compromise).

So we return to the final pages of Atlas Shrugged (which Althouse refuses to read because it is too long or something). The free markets team, including John Galt, is flying over the city of New York and the lights go out below them, implying that things are falling apart even in that monument to capitalism. What do these stalwart capitalists do? They begin planning the rise of a reborn city based on capitalist and libertarian principles. There won’t be government owned supermarkets.
Never undersell the power of markets.
@Gospace "Muslim is not a race. It is a political movement masquerading as a religion."
It is a religion -- a monotheism that worked for medieval warlords and that displaced older Bronze Age religions which were...seemingly harsher...

Adams v Mamdani could be a replay of the '91 Louisiana governor's race. "Vote for the crook. It's important."
I see on his hit list a higher minimum wage and a refusal to help ICE (so a continuation of "sanctuary city" protections).
Why is it that, like California, those most insistent on higher minimum wages to get a "living wage" and also those insisting that their city/state economy is dependent on illegal workers that undercut those wages? Is it just disdain for the immigrants and the taxpayers simultaneously? Do they just hope no one notices (b/c they *know* the press will never ask them about it)?
Well, the grammar was messed up a bit there, my apologies. I hope it doesn't completely hide the point.

"Mamdani is also a genuine political talent."
I watched some of his interviews and, yes, Kaki is right. He's smooth as Obama, reasonably masculine, and has a good bit of charisma.
He's going to be a huge problem for the Democrats.
“ I am looking forward to city run grocery stores”
If yall expects me to come get you some food, you got yourself in the wrong place. Said the 300 lb lesbian grocery store chief.
"Imagine a grocery store run by the DMV. Take a number and have a seat."
My closest experience with that was when I lived in PA some years back and the liquor stores were state-run. Yes, it was like the Post Office or the DMV: limited hours, limited service, and prices just as high as anywhere else.
"Manhattanites are just goddamn dumb."
The margin in Manhattan was relatively close, as Cuomo won the more heavily Jewish areas, even the UWS. There was a big get out the vote campaign among synagogues. Cuomo also won big in the Bronx, somewhat surprisingly, and in Staten Island, not surprisingly (though there aren't a lot of Democrats in SI).
Two things:
Popcorn futures are up;
Have democrats found their Donald Trump?
The fact that Madmani did well with young Jewish New York voters just shows how antisemitic young Jewish New Yorkers have become. 😉
he lost minorities and low income voters but got his main support from, you guessed it, affluent college educated white women.
The combination of the radical leftist politics and the youthful, dark-complected good looks is like catnip for those dumb bitches.
The radicalism, because high-flown words and good intentions always trump measurable outcomes for the Left, especially female leftists.
The good looks, because these lonely old biddies are pining for an exotic fantasy boyfriend.
I'm really starting to think no one should have the franchise except men with an honorable discharge from the military, and women who have delivered 3 children. I'd lose my vote right along with the purple-haired cat ladies, but it would be worth it.
Kakistocracy thinks he's being cute, when he said...

yep!
They hate Jews, because they HATE themselves..
just like;
people with "gender dysphoria" HATE themselves
people with white quilt HATE themselves
just like rich kids that embrace marxism
just like queer kids that embrace Hamas
Once you realize that the modern left HATES themselves..
It ALL makes sense..
Every THING that they do is self destructive.. WHY
because they HATE Themselves

Then the anger arrives, on large pallets - and the entire store is burned down."
'Free' stuff is the opiate of the masses.
@Gilbar: I'm not sure people fully absorb how antisemitic it is to say "they're Jewish so of course they support Netanyahu." It's not that different from saying "they're Black, so of course they support Boko Haram" and is probably worse than saying "they're Irish, so of course they support the IRA." And try explaining "they're Jewish so they love Netanyahu" to an educated Israeli person.
Kak? so, now you're just making up things that you think people say?
WHO is it, that you think is saying these things?
can you point on the bear, where these people are?
Robert Conquest once noted that “The behavior of any bureaucratic organization can best be understood by assuming that it is controlled by a secret cabal of its enemies.” This is perhaps the simplest way to understand the hard left’s relentless takeover of the Democratic Party in general, and jihad-friendly social Zohran Mamdani winning the Democratic nomination for mayor of New York City.
State run grocery stores! What could go wrong? Decriminalising prostitution = more prostitution. Rent freeze? Most effective way to destroy a housing market short of area bombing.
Defund the police? Last time I was in NY - January 2020, we were staying near NY Library, and we didn't feel safe then. Subway was scary.
If he wins in November, the Democrats will be forced to defend crazy , stupid, policies.
“I'm not sure people fully absorb how antisemitic it is to say "they're Jewish so of course they support Netanyahu.”
I wish people would stop throwing around words like anti semitic or racist or sexist for that matter. Why would it reveal a hatred of Jews to say - you’re Jewish so of course you’re for Netanyahu. It may be wrong or show a simplistic view of politics but it isn’t a reveal of a hatred of a group of people. People use it as short hand.
I don’t really want to explain to you why a lot of people don’t like Netanyahu (maybe I’m not sure myself) so let me call you an antisemite, that will embarrass you into silence and then I’ll feel like a good person plus I won’t have to think of a better argument. Win. Win.
RSM--I can confidently predict that the bodegas will be prohibited from "undercutting" the city-operated grocery stores by charging less. They will nonetheless be more popular because they will actually have
...stuff people want.
There is an element of The Truman Show with Mamdani -- he is a fictional candidate with no qualifications to be a mayor of NYC who could easily win.

A lot of young Jewish New York voters have become JINOs. The closest they come to Judaism is a memory of being bored at Bubbe's seders.
Rural and exurban cons like to say they don't care about the cities, but only a fool really wouldn't care.
OK. I'll bite. Why should I care?

Hear-hear. A lot of those are short-hand so people can avoid deeper dives on topical subjects, and it seems 99% of it came exclusively from the left, until recently...
Finally, the Democratic Party can shed the moderate, centrist mask. Joe Biden's shambolic presidency and Obama's second term should've destroyed the illusion for anyone paying attention: it really is the socialist party, albeit a China version where the connected enjoy the upside of a capitalism where the State determines winners and losers. Or maybe Mexico is the better example, where the peasants and workers eternally vote in the Socialists, while the folks in the Zona Rosa always get richer.
Will the NYC groceries sell Kosher food?
There's always room for one more Zimbabwe.
Cuomo did well in Black and Hispanic neighborhoods, Mandami in White neighborhoods. That excludes the White ethnic neighborhoods. Curiously, though, Cuomo did well in much of the Upper East Side and some of the Upper West Side, places that are majority White. People there hate Trump and today's Republican Party, but they are well-to-do and not completely self-destructive. Yesterday, I thought that there weren't enough hipsters in Brooklyn to elect an NYC mayor. Today, I fear that there are.
Some people insist on learning lessons the hard way.
It will be good and hard if they elect this maniac.
He should use eminent domain to take over the Whole Foods stores. His voters are going to want the very best.
James K: "the liquor stores were state-run. Yes, it was like the Post Office or the DMV: limited hours, limited service, and prices just as high as anywhere else."
Sweden has monopoly state-run liquor stores as well. They are set up like supermarkets, where you push your little cart down immaculately clean aisles between neatly and logically stacked displays, and check out with a reasonably friendly checkout girl.
Just another data point that socialism only works for Scandinavians....

WFM is proof that commies don't have a monopoly on screwing up distribution. Thanks to Bezos's just-out-of-time logistics, my location is frequently out of the simplest things.
Maybe NYC could get the dope gangs to run the grocery stores. They have experience getting product into customers' hands even with two legal systems opposing them. And they definitely wouldn't be letting any shoplifters pull some nonsense in their stores.

So, it seems that NYC will join London in having a mayor openly hostile to Israel specifically and Jews more generally. Amazing but not in a good way.
