"To easy LoL."

From "10 New Orleans Inmates Escape Jail Through Cell Wall Where Toilet Was Removed/Three escapees had been captured by Friday night. The Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office said the inmates might have had help from jail workers" (NYT): "A civilian employee of the sheriff’s office who was the only person monitoring security systems in the part of the jail where the escape occurred had left his station at the time to get food...."

It is The Big Easy.

What was wrong with a criminal justice employee facilitating the escape of criminals? It seems unconstitutional to hold that employee responsible. Don’t they have qualified immunity for the things they do when acting as an official?

It's a testament to our times that the first thought that entered my head listening to the news conference was "Oh, DEI again".

How much you want to bet that said employee leaves his station to get food at about the same time every night? And the inmates noticed.

No one will be able to jail Comey for his stunt.
Making his life miserable in any way possible - would be fine with me.

Susan Hutson, the Sheriff of Orleans Parish (location of this jail) is a black woman.

The elected a black woman to run this prison.

To easy.

At least the cameras were working, which is more than can be said about certain federal facilities.

At this point, who cares. Left wing judges will be letting them all out soon enough.

Imagine the heartbreak of being the one guy too big to fit through that hole.

Agree with wendybar @0922. And after you're all done laughing about the incompetence on display here y'all might want to think about relocating to someplace even further away from the urban cores like NOLA.

So they only name one escapee and one murder he committed, but they had space in the article to include irrelevant minutae. Now the public, victims, and witnesses' lives are in extreme danger, but The Times doesn't care about that. Disgraceful and unsurprising. Reminds me of their vile Katrina coverage, in which they covered up shootings at volunteer rescuers, medical staff, and mass rapes at the shelters. I had a white friend attacked by a black gang for no reason: they shot both his kneecaps. In a shelter. That never made the news.

Let the good times roll! I read the novel Cool Hand Luke a while ago. Luke escaped--went down to New Orleans. Sent his fellow inmates a picture of Luke all dressed up in a New Orleans night club with a couple of beauties in the picture. Looked like he had a million bucks--but he was broke and recaptured and sent back to the Florida prison farm.

They don't call New Orleans "The Big Easy" for nothing.

Reminds me of the obtuse lyric from the Thin Lizzy classic, "Jailbreak."

"Tonight there's going to be a jailbreak, somewhere in this town..."

I dunno, maybe at the jail?

The jail break looks a lot like college kids going on spring break.

Ha! The town could be so rough that it's got multiple jails...

My favorite jailbreak song is AC/DC's:

It relieved me to find that only one of the escapees was there for anything other than violence against other adult males. Because of this, I felt freer to admire their handiwork. Of course, crimes are crimes, but there are degrees. That was my feelings, I know that rationally I should not approve. And yet... very clever...

Geez that lady spokesperson - New Orleans Cpt. Stephanie Minto-Gibson - didn't inspire much confidence in their prospects for recovering these escapees. She's wearing bizarre eyeglasses, for that perfect Press Conference fashion accessory. She immediately reminded me of those puppets in the Team America: World Police satire. Once you see it, you can't unsee it.
