The new pope is an American citizen, so he has to file his taxes, right? What's the pope's salary? How would that audit go? Has an American citizen ever been a foreign head of state before?
Looks like the White House reads the comments section of the Althouse blog.
“ Senior White House advisor Stephen Miller said that the Trump administration is “actively looking at” suspending the writ of habeas corpus, the right to challenge a person’s detention by the government, for migrants.”
Pass the popcorn if Trump tries to suspend habeas corpus. It would be a good way to force the Supreme Court’s hand in adjudicating all these ridiculous holds the dem judges are putting on deportations.
So, someone else brought it up first. Used to be easy to become an ex-citizen. Like swearing allegiance to a foreign emperor as a commissioned officer, or being elected to an office. Now, apparently nothing is automatic disqualification, even serving in a war against us- that must be adjudicated...
The new Pope is now a Head of State with which we have diplomatic relations. If he comes to visit- and executes a heretic- he cannot be arrested as he had full diplomatic immunity as head of state of Vatican City. An American citizen who cannot be arrested and tried... or be subject to any other American law.
If you ever needed a complete argument against dual citizenship- there it is.
Am I the only one who has noticed the daily use of the word “bespoke” being used by the press? I looked it up and it means a custom-made outfit. Is there an app for words that the press needs to use to be a with it writer or is it just ChatGPT?
So the defense minister of Pakistan has expressed remorse that his country supported terrorists in Afghanistan at the behest of the US and the UK as part of fighting the Soviets.
So Brzezinsky claimed in 1999 that the US armed up and trained the Taliban in 1979 to provoke a Soviet invasion.
During the first weeks of the Afghanistan war, we had bin Laden trapped in Tora Bora, and somebody ordered the bombing to stop and he escaped.
When Osama is "found" in Pakistan, and we are mounting a mission to kill him, not capture him, kill him, dead men tell no tales, Biden counsels that we not kill him. We kill him anyway, and among his effects is an order to his men not to kill Joe Biden if they happen to get a chance.
Now the defense minister of Pakistan is saying that the country never should have run these terrorist operations, in Afghanistan and Kashmir, BTW, that if they hadn't listened to the US and UK, their national reputation would be 'unimpeachable."
So basically we started a fire on Russia's border. Chechnya? Islamic terrorists create another crisis for Russia. It's been a decades long strategy in a conflict between Western Europe and Russia that goes back centuries.
If you read Jaq's link, you will see that he added "as part of fighting the Soviets", which is not in the article. And Pakistan says they've been supporting the Taliban for 30 years, which (a) everyone already knew, and (b) makes sense, since they were founded 31 years ago, in 1994.
But the Soviets invaded Afghanistan in 1979 and withdrew their last troops in 1989, so once again it is simply false to say that the U.S. created or funded or supported the Taliban to induce the Soviets to invade, or to do anything to harm them. They were long gone. And not just false, but impossible without a massive fleet of time machines. Poor Jaq can't tell the difference between the Mujahideen and the Taliban, entirely different organizations, which mostly fought against each other when they were both in existence. I have corrected this falsehood in these pages at least four times before, but he just waits a week or two and repeats it again, like (or perhaps as) some kind of paid propagandist.
When she was the US ambassador to the UN, Susan Rice attacked Eritrea for taxing its citizens living abroad, conveniently neglecting to mention that the other country imposing taxes on its expats is ... the United States of America. • The Biden era began with Joe promising to mobilize "true international pressure" -- or in Bidenese, "trunalimunumaprzure." Now it ends with an even more comprehensible comment by Biden about what we need to lead the world. Look for the horrendously garbled passage to be transcribed in the next few days. • "Bespoke" is something US journalists picked up from the British. That word never appeared in newspapers or magazines in the old days except in reference to British tailored suits, and even then, most readers wouldn't have known what it meant.
Jaq: Fox News reports that OBL died of lung disease in mid-December 2001 in or around Tora Bora. That obviously casts doubt about who was killed in Abbottabad by Navy Seals on May 2, 2011.

"Throughout 2020, we were instructed that protests are the voice of the voiceless. On January 6, 2021, conservatives learned that there was an asterisk to the rule; namely, that it doesn’t apply to conservatives. Today, congressional Democrats tried to add a new asterisk to the rule: Democrats in Congress—that is, people who sit in the world’s most powerful political body and have the ear of the media—are considered voiceless if they protest against ICE.
It’s all very confusing, of course, but the bottom line is that the rules don’t apply to them."
