"That speech puts Cory Booker as one of the leaders for the Democratic Party for 2028."

Said "Frank Luntz: Booker marathon speech 'may have changed the course of political history'" (The Hill).

Everyone's talking like Trump now. Just get rid of the weasel word "may" and you have Trump-style rhetoric: Booker's speech changed the course of political history.

And then there was Elon Musk the other day, saying that the Wisconsin Supreme Court election would affect the entire destiny of humanity. No, he wasn't that Trumpian. He had weasel words. He said "I feel like this is one of those things that may not seem that it’s going to affect the entire destiny of humanity, but I think it will."

Speaking of speaking bluntly, here's Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice Rebecca Bradley talking about that election:

The term "weasel words" wasn't invented by Theodore Roosevelt, but here's the earliest use of the term — according to the OED — from the NYT:

Bradley delivers the full egg.

This just shows that Frank Luntz is a really stupid person who will say really stupid things if his billionaire bosses tell him to.

She pointed out that billionaires bought the Wisconsin judge election.

Everyone on the left wants to talk about Musk. But there were multiple billionaires that spent way more money on this election than Musk and they did it with a mail in vote buying scam and a flood of dishonest advertising.

The left just cannot be honest about anything they are doing.

If Booker wasn't filibustering a bill and conducting the business of Congress, then what parliamentary rule allowed him to keep and hold the floor? And more importantly, how many 'Depends' was he wearing?

MadisonMan said...

Re: Booker, TL, didn't listen. Did he actually say anything, or are we supposed to sit back in awe because he talked for so long? I assume most of the speechifying was to an empty chamber.

Okay show of hands of anyone who knows even ONE subject of Booker's rant. [crickets]
Okay show of hands of anyone who cares. Sit down Frank! Anyone else? [crickets]

It was a speech. He wasn't filibustering anything except being the losers that won't accept they lost the election.

I wonder what dunce told him this was a good idea. Nobody watching, nobody listening, nobody caring and nobody will remember this a year from now. Maybe best speaks to his gullibility.

Sort of like the weird sisters on SCOTUS, lockstep for the Democrat agenda. Split decisions are virtually always dependent on conservative justices.

The paradox of criticizing politicization is that you can't do it without appearing to engage in it. Bad luck for Wisconsin.

Booker now ranks above Strom Thurmond, who was a racist Democrat when he previously performed the longest speech in Congress. Booker will have as big an influence with this speech, whose content nobody cares to report or review or see, as AOC has had so far. So Booker/AOC for a POC ticket? It would be a helluva campaign: Vance running on Common Sense, with them running like headless chickens.

Did Booker talk about how on Monday he helped one of his aides illegally sneak a gun into the Capitol? (The aide has been arrested.) Nothing puts you in position to be a leading Democrat presidential candidate like (1) aiding an illegal act, and (2) hypocritically supporting illegal gun possession.

Booker: A speech that no one will ever listen to in its entirety and whose main point of interest is the question of how exactly he controlled his urination while delivering it. Historic indeed.

The few clips of his speech I've seen has him come off as an earnest, A-student, giving a practiced A-level performance. A high school teacher of sophomore English should rightfully give a speech like this praise, but it comes off as a performance in a time when voters are yearning for authenticity.

https://babylonbee.com/news/cory-booker-hosts-24-hour-psa-on-the-dangers-of-crystal-meth
In a brave move hailed by political analysts as an inspiring display of courage, New Jersey Senator Cory Booker embarked on a straddling anti-drug crusade by hosting a 24-hour live public service announcement on the dangers of crystal meth.

Taking the Senate floor, Booker gave a raw, uncensored demonstration to the American people of the dangers of methamphetamine use, as he stood at a lectern and gave a wild-eyed speech full of flailing appendages, mouth frothing, and unintelligible shouting.

"It's truly brave of him to show everyone the consequences of pumping yourself full of meth," said Booker's fellow Democratic Senator John Fetterman. "I've experienced the dangers of meth use firsthand, and it's horrifying. With our country facing the harsh realities of drug addiction, it's important for everyone to see what it looks like up close. No one wants their loved one to become like Senator Booker."

If Cory did this just for the attention I guess it worked. If he wants to run for President, I cannot wish him luck but I can wish him well. I think the democrats nominating any candidate from Camden, NJ just about guarantees a republican win.

But I really came by to drop off this joke. The record he beat was previously held by Strom Thurmond. Senator Thurmond, as a democrat, filibustered the 1957 Civil Rights Bill by talking for more than 24 hours. It was a feat so arduous that it was reported at the time that he had to train for it, like a long distance runner.

That's right, Strom Thurmond ran a 10 K-K-K

Funny how Luntz is always popping up on all sides of political spectrum. One day he working for Pat Buchanan. Then we discover he's best friends forever with Kevin McCarthy and renting Kevin his condo. Oops, then he's broken his friendship with McCarthy is no longer a Republican (assuming he ever was one), and now he's a Liberal/left Democrat.

Funny, reminds me of Jonah Goldberg, Charlie Sykes and Bill Kristol. From Liberal Democrat in college to "True Conservative" and finally back to "Liberal/leftist"

Frank Luntz and his then-employee Kellyanne Fitzpatrick (now Conway) use to have a TV show late night on UHF. They looked like a nice couple. Given how things turned out with Kellyanne's husband, she and Frank should have gotten together, even if they could never have children (or especially if they could never have children, given how things turned out with Kellyanne's daughter).

I'm sure that Luntz didn't focus group this. Any group of ordinary citizens wouldn't be much impressed by Spartacus speaking for 24 hours. Being impressed by Booker's stunt or by his Rhodes Scholarship is strictly an Inside the Beltway thing. DC is anything but our national memory keeper. People like Luntz have already forgotten that no one was impressed with Booker during his 2020 presidential run. I think even the lady who ate salad with a comb did better than Cory. It would be fun for Booker to pick Fetterman as a runningmate though.

Bruce Hayden said...

Think of Booker as Obama II. Probably smarter. Light skinned African American with impeccable credentials. Easy for liberal whites to vote for him because of his light skinned and credentials. Obama was from Chicago, and won, so why can’t Booker from Camden do the same?

I think that he could be credible. The Dems have an exceedingly weak bench right now. Major competitors, so far, are Harris, who is also lightly black but lost the last election, by sounding brain dead, and Newsom who is shallow, and has helped destroy CA. Of all of them, he might have the best chance at debating Vance.

If I were Booker though, I would rather, I think, be aiming at 2032 than 2028. My bet, right now, is that MAGA will still be flying high in 2028, and losing steam in maybe 2030. We shall see.
