What do we think of Joe here? It can't be that he's racist for saying "colored kids." It's not as though Biden is attempting to revive the old expression. It's not like what
the other Joe — Joe Rogan — has been doing with the word "retarded." Biden is painting a picture of the past, when he was boy: "I remember seeing kids going by — at the time, called 'colored kids' — on a bus going by." Part of the memory is the memory of what the black children were called. It was the completely common speech of that time and, I believe, the preferred term. Not racist. To cling to it, after the 1950s, became problematic, but Biden isn't clinging to it. He's recreating his boyhood experience, sensing and learning. I think Trump knows all that, and by merely showing the speech and saying nothing, he avoids criticism. He just hangs it out there for people to react to, as if Biden's mere voicing of the now-disfavored words is the same as his actually
using the word as his go-to way to refer to black people today. Many will take the bait.

Keep talking Biden. You remind us why you are the worst President in US history.
The clip of Biden shows his advancing dementia, nothing more, nothing less. Race baiting isn't possible with a Democrat, they own racism in DEI, CRT, affirmative action.

And what would happen if Trump were to say exactly the same words? Would the 'bait-taking' be louder, institutionalized, overwhelming in its exposure, ruthlessly consistent in its messaging, as if communicated in a memo? Would a 'narrative' be created, nurtured, and lovingly refreshed to where we would be hearing about it, 5 years from now?
Of course it would happen.
I for one am glad to see Biden disrespecting the tradition of leaving office and maintaining editorial silence about the administration that just replaced him less than 3 months ago. Since everything else about his term was a sign of disrespect and contempt for the American people, and what is best for them.
Yeah. We know. The guy who Eulogized the KKK Grand Kleagle was so sad about them coloreds....
Retarded was appropriated in a cultural coup of a physical process.
didn't want his kids to be sent to those 'jungle schools' well I don't think ashley and hunter turned out that well,
the guy who caucused with eastland and byrd, not stennis but eastland,
was this BEFORE? or AFTER? Joe Biden offed Corn Pop, and took over his gang?
"Colored" was the preferred and more polite term, when I was a child. To say "Black" person would have been unthinkable. Almost as bad as the "N" word. If my parents ever caught me using that term....I would have been in BIG trouble.
My older relatives in the South....most of whom were born before 1900 would use the term "Darkie". I thought that was very weird but in their eyes and given their position in the historical time line.....it was considered delicately polite.
Biden (for whom I have no respect at all and think is sadly demented) was just relaying a story from those days using the relevant terms of the time.
If Trump said the same exact thing Liberals and the media would make it a huge problem. Trump is just illustrating the hypocrisy.
Goodness knows that Biden could start speaking of "porch monkeys, as they were called at the time." I have no idea why Democrats think propping up Biden makes sense AFTER they pushed him out of his own re-election campaign, but I am grateful. We might have President Trump for twenty years.
why don't the Bidens take their MILLIONS and Go Away?
WHAT do they think they will accomplish staying around?
Those colored kids just got a new record player.
Why didn’t Joe Bidet share his tales of marching in the Selma protests? Is this a new, humble Joe Bidet?
“It was the completely common speech of that time and, I believe, the preferred term.”
Should they be “Colored Kids” or “Kids of Color”?
I wonder what the Japs think about that.
What other colored terminology is no longer used in polite company? Mental retardation is a progressive process in human evolution. That said, Biden should take a day off, relax with Jill on a hill with a pail of water, and have a gay old time.
he's an embarassing corrupt hack, he was also a Soviet tool in the 80s, they had a whole host of them, like Kerry and Raskin pere
"Negro" was another preferred term, still exists in the United Negro College Fund. Back in the day George Wallace would pronounce it "nigra".
"When the stock market crashed, Franklin D. Roosevelt got on the television and didn't just talk about the, you know, the princes of greed. He said 'look here's what happened.'"

the only thing that Biden was every right about was the Drug Czar legislation, and that ended up very ironic,
in the multiverse, that might of well happened,
The gay colored children were called faggots at the time.
Biden's been wrong on lots and lots of things. But becoming wealthy through corruption isn't one of them.
A sad, demented animatronic exhibition or a brave act of a tired old man pulled from the asphalt in the wake of a Greyhound bus.
You decide.
RIP Wink Martindale.
Biden is a Person of Peach (PoP). Trump, we were advised, is a Person of Orange (PoO). Diversity politics.
thats quite a shame, iman, a giant in the industry,

The last voice the country needs right now is Joe Biden's.
It is time for democrats to move on and look to the future and not keep dredging up more Trump—Biden tit for tat.
An aide clipped it for him. He wasn't inspired to add text. "Just post it. See what happens. Hey, let's sell Guam."
@ tcrosse I forgot that Negro was a preferred term as long as it was pronounced carefully.
I remember putting out special seed for the birds. It was called niger at the time.
By publicizing Biden as a racial gaffe machine, Trump cuts a chunk out of his speech business, one of the major sources of Biden family graft. Many otherwise sympathetic sponsors won’t want to risk something like this happening in front of their logo.
Just hitting Joe every possible way, the same as Joes people hit Trump every possible way.

The mistake is that it's a reminiscence, and so is supposed to be enjoyable. Biden has lost track of the social perception of enjoyable.
as if Biden's mere voicing of the now-disfavored words is the same as his actually using the word as his go-to way to refer to black people today. Many will take the bait.
A lot of Americans today have no use/mention distinction when it comes to terms for Black people. It's just a ritual taboo against terms perceived as derogatory, whether used directly or merely mentioned. Not for all Americans, but for a significant number.
On a related note, young Americans seem to have much more wide ranging writing taboos than any other living generations, perhaps in part as a means of getting around online censorship mechanisms, and in part because of the idea of "trigger warnings," when simply seeing an unpleasant word could give someone with an especially delicate constitution the vapours. One sees them censoring terms like "sex," "rape," or "suicide," in a way that comes across as extremely precious and affected, but that I think has genuinely become second nature for a lot of young people. And that focus on the totemic, quasi-magical power of particular words is probably why the use/mention distinction has eroded for terms perceived as derogatory.
I'm sure Biden heard the N-word too, when he was young, seeing as he grew up in one of the slave states. But people would gasp if he talked about how Blacks were referred to as N-word in his youth. Unless he respected the ritual taboo by self-censoring, as I have done.
Yeah, Biden blathering in his Old grandpa mode about "Colored Kids" from 60 years ago. What the fuck does this have to do with 2025? He let in 20 million illegal aliens while POTUS. He hates average white people and calls them "nazis".
I thought we were over Biden. He's gone, he's not coming back into office, and its time for him to shut up and go away.
He should be jail or an old folks home.
I seem to remember a professor being cancelled by a horde of liberals for using the N word in the same way.
we will never be over macho grande, this is who the apparat foisted upon us,
Instead of talking about "Colored kids in buses" and segregation (oh, poor the blacks) from 60 years ago. Why doesn't Biden talk about 2025, where some black kid murdered an unarmed white kid at a track meet. And the result? The black kid has raised $500,000 for his defense fund and had his bail reduced to 250K while he's under house arrest. He probably wont even go to jail.
Thats the status of "colored Kids" In 2025.
Many will take the bait.
And rightly so.
Wait, now its ok to put things in context?
The n-word is permitted for black people in rogue sentiment or fond deprecatory modes. Forbidding words is a group control move that it may be dangerous to oppose, depending on where control is going. Your allies may turn against you too.
BTW, as dumb indoctrinated Kid in the late 70s, I would cringe everytime my old uncle said "Colored". Didn't he know the correct term was "Afro-American"? Later I learned that before "Negro" the correct term was "Colored". My Uncle just hadn't kept up with the correct labels. Probably because he had better things to do.
And I don't give a fuck about how you cant use the N word. What is about old white people & the N word? I've rarely heard it in my entire life, and haven't suffered one iota from its abscence. If blacks want to use it - so what?
"Many will take the bait."
Not exactly following here. If someone were to "take the bait", would that mean that they believed FJB wanted to put them back in chains?
Melvin Udall:
Oh, you were talking about your dog. I thought you were referring to that colored man inside your apartment.
Simon Bishop:
Uh, what color would that be?
Melvin Udall:
Like uh, like thick MO-lasses.
some black kid murdered an unarmed white kid at a track meet
We need reasonable blade control. Athletic Lives Matter #HateLovesAbortion
This is a term race.
and the kid lives in 900,000 dollar gated community, and was allowed to only pay 250k in bail
It's not just the reference to an outdated term. It's that Biden thinks his old man remembrance of it is relevant or politically useful. Trump has more than one angle to exploit.
Biden is history. His speeches will be dismissed as nonsense.
I thought Biden's comment was appropriately used as Althouse describes and I don't think Trump should have highlighted it, however, were the roles reversed here the mediaverse would be up in arms for the next week proclaiming Trump a racist who all but used the N-word and wanted to put black people back in chains. And I suspect that was Trump's point.
The point of Biden's story is, as a 9 year old 4th grader, he was morally offended by segregation.
Must be true, or he would not have said it.
He often says things that never happened,
Thank God, Biden didn't show a snippet of blanket with the letters "nig" visible. Just imagine all the people who would take the bait.
Biden--who at this mental stage in life is surely riding the short bus--was meandering about his youth and seeing "colored kids". I doubt that he was all that het up about it at the time he actually saw the bus. But what the heck, it may have been Kamala he saw--after all she "was the girl on that bus". Wandering around these racial terms is a mine field for any modern politician. I can recall when the Dims in Congress got all het up when a Republican congressman decried the "niggardly amount of spending" in the defense budget.

Or Donald McNeil resigning (under pressure) from the NYT.
Maybe Trump shared the clip for the reason I thought it was interesting - I was surprised to see that Biden can manage to still mumble through his stories. At the rate he seemed to be declining, I would have expected him to just stand there with his jaw hanging open. Perhaps he's doing better in a less stressful environment.
Evidently, there were no "racist overpasses" in the way?
You ain't colored if you vote Republican.
Every time Biden talks about a memory its a fucking lie. This asshole has a history of lying about this kind of thing as a form of virtue signaling. He needs to go away.
That video has been deceptively edited. Leave it to Trump. What do they call them? Cheap fakes? In the original Biden clearly states it was a bus full of "articulate and bright and clean" colored kids.
Using colored as a description for black people is SO gay.
How is saying Kids of color, different from colored kids? ie People of color vs colored people? THEY ARE THE SAME THING. Yet, one is acceptable, and one is not.
Seems they are picking and choosing which speeches to publicize.
In his speech to the IBEW conference on April 4, kept closed to the press amid concerns of triggering Trump’s wrath, .

We don't make the rules.
Given all we’ve seen - including the recent acting out of 0bama-Biden judges - is there any doubt that particular Dubious Duo were a freaking curse on our nation?
Trump knows it's nothing. His message is: what if I said this?

You are giving grace to a mean old man who doesn't deserve it. No such accommodations are ever given by the Left to those they oppose. There is no room for nuance, or accurate quotations of other individuals, or historic context, or hypothetical discussions, or any other mercy when the racial Jacobins and Mau-Maus pick up the torches and pitchforks. And when there's no actual racism to be found, their lust for the political power gained from the mere accusation will induce them to invent it out of thin air, eliciting such nonsense as "microaggressions" and "structural racism".
I made a bet of a six-pack of beer on a Yankees/Red Sox series with the Black guy who ran the mail/supply operations at our office. He asked me what kind of beer I liked. I told him; the implications didn't even occur to me. He said "WHAT kind of Modelo did you say?"
We both got a big laugh out of it.
One sees them censoring terms like "sex," "rape," or "suicide," in a way that comes across as extremely precious and affected, but that I think has genuinely become second nature for a lot of young people.
In many cases that is done to circumvent the censorship systems on social media platforms and other websites, which have bots that scan for certain trigger words and flag them so the "disinformation" mafia can delete posts and ban users. As such, it should be seen as a small act of rebellion against the left-wing Big Nanny/Dolores Umbridge types like Nina Jankowicz.
Remember, this is the guy who repeated the "Fine people" hoax even recently. No slack deserved.
Don't forget the NAACP. National Association for the Advancement of Colored People.
Colored kids were non-threatening then because there were so few of them in Scranton.
Shaded persons is familiar and inclusive (SPIFAI).
Calling Black kids “Colored” is, by far, the least of his transgressions against America and its citizens.
After thinking on this while pushing around the lawn mower, I think the racism angle is just a MacGuffin to get Democrats to do (with all possible respect to you) exactly what you and Kak did - either put out a long explanation about why this dated nomenclature is perfectly acceptable from the old geezer (if you're explaining you're losing) or launch into an immediate and total repudiation of him less than 12 months after the exact same groups were claiming he was suitable for another 4 years at the helm of our government.
Colored People of Color
Colored, schmolored, who cares? What inquiring minds want to know is... who the heck thought it was a good idea to trot Joe Biden out in public? I want to find that person and shake his/her/its hand! Comedy gold, I tell ya!
“What do we think of Joe here? It can't be that he's racist for saying "colored kids." It's not as though Biden is attempting to revive the old expression.”
Someone should. “People of color” instead of “colored people” is an idiotic locution, another example of the dumbing down of language nowadays.
Damn, I gotta go chase those retard kids off my lawn again.
Okay, let's try this:
"I remember seeing kids going by — at the time, called 'n_____ kids' — on a bus going by."
That was the way many people talked back then. Does Joe still get a pass?
Biden's smarmy and incompetent. He wants to push the noble civil rights struggle button, but he can't help pushing the patronizing old white guy button. He wants the kudos for being a forward-thinking progressive but can't help revealing himself as a less likeable Archie Bunker.
"One sees them censoring terms like "sex," "rape," or "suicide," in a way that comes across as extremely precious and affected, but that I think has genuinely become second nature for a lot of young people."
I have seen that, and assumed it was a response to cancel-bots flagging posts on various platforms.
Sex Rape Suicide would be a good name for a punk band. (Do they still exist?)
Most of the older folks around here when I was coming up used the N-word freely; if they weren't sure who was listening they would say 'nigra' (as already mentioned, and with an air of noblesse oblige), or 'colored.' 'Darky' was archaic and rare in my experience.
It was also not unusual to hear the term 'Jewboy.' (I heard an Army joke featuring the term from my wife's father's father, who had been with the 30th Division in the AEF in 1918.)
I believe "jogger" is the current inoffensive term du jour.
Woe Biden.
It's important that the American peasantry see these people as the often senile, lying, ignorant, and generally FITH types that rule over us today as the witless retards they actually are. Which is to say, speaking unscripted, with no teleprompters, or ear buds or advanced look at the questions to help them fake it. This too is what democracy should look like!
