Trout lilies are edible. Althouse should try a salad made from them and report back. (Assuming she doesn't croak.)

Wisconsin politics would be substantially improved if the state ceded Kenosha, Racine, and Milwaukee counties to Illinois. The voters in those counties would get all the blue model governance that they want, and the rest of Wisconsin would be liberated from the corruption and illiberality that those voters inflict on the rest of the state.

That's a lot of foliage sprung from the ground in a very short period of time. It's a little scary. I hope someone is keeping an eye on things.

Not good enough. They want to give *you* all the blue model governance that they want, too.

All within the state, nothing outside the state, nothing against the state.

Donald Trump claims to have received call from Xi Jinping and to have cut ‘200 deals’ on trade ~FT

“Trump said of the Chinese president: “He’s called. And I don’t think that’s a sign of weakness on his behalf.” However, several people familiar with the situation in Washington and Beijing said Xi had not called Trump.

The US president also made the claim that he had sealed “200 deals” on trade, even though no such pacts have been announced.”

And I thought Biden had dementia.

Trump's handlers need to stop trolling him and setting up calls with the local Chinese takeout and saying it's Xi.

Then why did you tell us he was sharp as a tack?

I notice the left has gone completely silent on the arrest of Magistrate Joel Cano AND his wife, Nancy Cano for housing a member of the Tren de Aragua gang. Well, more has come- more then one member. Wouldn't be surprised to see their daughter joining them.

Instead they're going all out on the arrest of the Wisconsin judge for unlawfully helping an illegal immigrant domestic abuser escape apprehension. Comparing the domestic abuser to Anne Frank and saying the judge did the right thing... I wonder if it's also going to turn out this particular illegal immigrant domestic abuser also turns out to be a gang member of one of the many gangs in Mexico and further south. Wouldn't surprise me at all.

@Original Mike, maybe Kaki has a bunch of tacks that are as pointless as his comments.

Trump's little games of bluff, boasting, and BS may have worked for him in the closed world of New York real estate and with fantasy-prone voters, but they play badly in the real world.

Something to keep in mind:

Trump really does think tariffs are free money that he can use to fund tax cuts.

Can't the Left come up with ONE illegal immigrant house cleaner, supporting her two children and her elderly parents back home after her husband was killed in a combine accident, who was wrongfully accused of theft by her employer and has been deported? Why do they keep choosing violent offenders as their poster children?

I get the "due process is meaningless unless it ALSO applies to violent offenders" thing. But two problems with that: the definition of "due process" as regards deporting someone in the country illegally, and holy moly, the court of public opinion.

Trump really does think

Unlike Democrats, yes he does.

Actually, I came here to laugh at Wisconsin, which has had Mississippi rocket past them as far as the test scores of elementary school students is concerned. So who’s the “education governor”? Is it Tony Evers, who throws money at schools? Or Tate Reeves, who throws phonics at young children?

A Trump deportation judge permitted the transfer of a two-year-old American-born child to be sent to to Hondoras after ICE agents arrested the mother and her sister when they made a scheduled visit to the Immigration court in NW Louisiana and then put them on a plane. But the judge, whose name was Doughty, supposedly couldn't or (more likely) wouldn't turn the aircraft around because it was "already over the Gulf of America." Hondorus is a Carribbean county and its largest airport is in Tegucigalpa, south of the Yukatan Peninsula.

So I see no effort by General Bondi to arrest Judge Doughty for breaking the law, despite the child's birth certificate that was presented to the court by lawyers representing the father.

Trump seems to be confused about what’s reality and what his aspirations are. Not reassuring at all.

Trump is so used to lying blatantly and obviously and being believed or at least forgiven by his followers, that he doesn’t know how else to behave anymore. It doesn’t work with foreign leaders and diplomats, but he can’t control himself. How can you deal with someone who can never be relied upon to speak the truth or keep his word?

The full transcript is bonkers.
Exclusive: Inside Trump’s First 100 Days ~ Time https://time.com/7280106/trump-interview-100-days-2025/

"US president referred to the power he had as gatekeeper for the US consumer market. “It’s a giant, beautiful store, and everybody wants to go shopping there. And on behalf of the American people, I own the store, and I set prices, and I’ll say, if you want to shop here, this is what you have to pay,” Trump told Time."

Trump should keep all the tariffs, and exempt all products...

How about providing hot-link for those of us who don't do text links?

YMMV, but I use Chrome and here's how I do it: touch and hold any part of the text link until the entire link (and a bunch of stuff before and after, typically) is highlighted. Then a short bar appears above the highlighted stuff with the Chrome symbol, Open, Copy, Share, and the three dots indicating the extended menu. Tap Open, and Chrome takes you to the link, regardless of the other stuff it's highlighted. So basically it's already a hot link with two extra steps - highlight, and choose an option.

Typing out the hot link "instructions" - "a href=" etc. - is the same pain in the patoot as the dreaded italico only longer and therefore with more opportunity for trouble; I can see why some just paste the link text.

There was talk about Michigan's Upper Peninsula become a state: Superior or Ontonagon. It was also thought that the northern part of the Lower Peninsula and Northern Wisconsin joining the new state.

It's not going to happen. First because the tax money comes from the cities and their suburbs, not the rural areas, which are net beneficiaries of the budget game. Second, because once you have a new state capital all the stuff you hated about the old state capital will establish itself there.

Mississippi has been able to improve its reading scores from second from the bottom to the middle of the pack in only a few years. Is that for real? And what is wrong with New Mexico, which is at the very bottom?
