"While liberals have attempted to point out the irony of Trump’s use of what is historically considered a gay anthem... [but] the men in this room observed no such irony in the first place. To them Trump is not only pro-gay but a gay icon unto himself, a champion of masculinity in both its traditional and campy forms, as lovable for his flamboyant excess as for his red-meat invective against the left. 'The makeup, the hair, the sharp tongue, the cattiness,' [said Adam Ewer, copresident of the New York City chapter of the Log Cabin Republicans]. 'He’s the gayest president we’ve ever had.'... A gay publicist who only agreed to speak to me anonymously suggested that one reason some gays are drawn to the right wing is that it’s simply more fun. Democrats are the 'most killjoy people on earth,' he said, whereas there’s something 'actually quite gay' about MAGA. 'It’s masculine, but it’s also campy and bitchy.' And in its embrace of trash entertainment and penchant for offense it may have more in common with gay culture than the liberal mainstream, which in the publicist’s view has become 'painfully' middle-class. 'I’ve always liked opera and Jerry Springer, and I feel like Trump—that’s kind of his taste. It’s very high-low.'"

The only vexing incongruity here is that the priggish lefties are a repulsive turnoff to everybody. Glad to have the gay guys on board the MAGA train. Politics is about addition.
YMCA is such a happy song. Was just listening to it a couple days ago (along with the Minions' version, heh).
Individuals who take pride in themselves and not their identity will find conservativism a refreshing departure from the liberal status quo that has colored our progress.
I've said many times the Democrats were idiots to attack Trump. He had much in common with their social views and had they approached him with an open hand rather than a closed fist he probably would have enacted many of the policies they say they wanted. (Though not the cray cray stuff)
Actually, LG is already a ridiculous mashup of two very distinct and somewhat hostile groups.
Yet another person notices: Trump is an alternative 1990s Democrat who brought along alt-1990s Democratic defectors to use the Republican Party as a vehicle for their vision.
Trump is not and never was a conservative.
Some transgender individuals are more stable than others.
Lady MAGA, drag performer -- hahaha!
Fun article. Thanks.
Trump is conservative: pro-Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness in a Republic under a Constitution that acknowledges individual rights and mitigates authoritarian progress.

You can say the same thing about ANY of the Republicans other than Rand Paul and Thomas Massie, and they are more libertarian.
Democrats are the 'most killjoy people on earth,':
Boy, ain't that the truth. Want to be scolded? Hectored? Lectured to? Talk to a Democrat about anything.
@n.n: "Trump is conservative: pro-Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness"
That's more of an Age of Elightenment liberal than a conservative. The USA was founded by explorers, radicals, and risk-takers. They were generally more change-oriented "progressives" than the stick-at-home European traditionalists who descended from kings (and could nominally trace their lineage back to Adam & Eve). The true European conservatives were rooted in the middle ages, Roman Catholicism, kings, dukes, earls, noble titles, and other the landed gentry.
USA conservatives are largely religious and stuck in old-time ways, not living large with casinos and TV shows and multiple wives. See the Amish and agricultural communities. Even the Mormons aren't actually conservative, given their dramatic shift away from Chistianity and polygamous side.
Nobody puts Trump in a corner.
The biggest problem the DEI crowd has is that they've become prudish church ladies, right down to the blue hair.
American conservativism is defined under Declaration and Constitution. The alternative characterizations are anachronistic throwbacks and forward-looking to other places and times.

Some transgender individuals are more stable than others.
Yet, all are still unstable. Well below the norm. Take any group- any norm or trait.
Some lesbians are heavier then others.
Some chessplayers are worse then others.
Some with Down's syndrome are more capable then others.
Even works with language.
Some statements comparing groups with traits are more offensive then others.
The Mormons were only ever polygamous in limited representation. Today's liberals are more polygamists as "friends", modern families,, and social progress that relieves forward-looking "burdens" with the performance of human rites as practiced in prehistoric periods by cultists and savages.
Trump is, in a word, fabulous. In several words he’s campier than a three-dollar bill.
I’ve always liked opera and Jerry Springer, and I feel like Trump—that’s kind of his taste. It’s very high-low.
Go back 200-300 years, and opera was considered as unspeakably low and vulgar as Jerry Springer is now. The indignant burghers of Prague were appalled when Mozart's Don Giovanni premiered in 1787, with its charismatic but morally deficient title character. Audience members disrupted the performances, and ultimately the conservative and religious citizens of Prague held a full-scale riot in the streets outside the opera house. There were also riots in Venice against the indecency and moral ambiguity in Verdi's La Traviata in 1853, and again in Paris when Bizet's Carmen opened in 1875. Rigoletto was banned for twenty years in France and came close to being banned by Italian government censors, and Verdi had to change some of the most licentious parts to be allowed to present it. Even so, the audience booed and disrupted every performance at its opening in Venice.
Homosexuals are notably at the stable end of the transgender spectrum. There are just as many politically congruent ("=") individuals in the unstable subset, typically in progressive sects practicing the Pro-Choice religion.
DEI is the institutional, systemic practice of Diversity (i.e. class-disordered ideologies) that denies individual dignity, value, merit, choice. That said, diversity of individuals, minority of one. #HateLovesAbortion
I would contend that Y.M.C.A. transcends being a gay anthem. It's definitely not considered one when it's played at every sporting event.
Gay MAGA is hypermasculine and anti-woke—and it wants a break from the LGBTQ+ movement"
The trans movement in some quarters is a threat to children who may be discovering that they are gay.
Democrats are largely special and peculiar interests who exploit differentials for leverage in their pursuit of monopolies of capital and control following left-wing ideologies and religions.

I recall reading that lesbians were listed first in "LGB" because in the really bad days of AIDS, it was mostly lesbian nurses who took care of dying gay men. They were given first billing in LGB as an act of gratitude and respect. I don't know if that's true or not.

Succinctly put.
"Trump is not and never was a conservative."
At this point, if you don't believe in mandatory castration of all male children at the age of twelve, you are a conservative.
It's only vexing to those who want to be vexed.

"L" comes first because of feminism.
In the early days it was "gays and lesbians".
But the lesbians complained.
Because that's what lesbians do.
Larry, does that really sound plausible? Suddenly a bunch of lesbian nurses, that no one had ever noticed before, sprang forth from the closet to tend to all the male homosexuals dying of Fauci's disease? The reality is that some homos are bi, and they will basically fuck anything, and the rest are straight homo, and they only want to fuck men. But neither bunch has much use for dykes. And the dykes mostly hang out with straights to try to poach the better-looking women. At least, that was how it worked, back when I had a social life.
The term “gay” encompasses the term “lesbian”, as well as male same sex attraction. I think “lesbian” was included to make it clear that female SSA was not just an afterthought and got put first. There is no common use term for male gays that covers all gay men that is not derogatory. So the ladies got the “L” and the guys got the “G”.
"But the lesbians complained.
Because that's what lesbians do."
Dykes. Somewhere between a third and a half of "lesbians" are straight women who are willing to accept some sexual attention from other women. Because men find that exciting, rather than threatening. But there is a hard core of dykes, who act male, and only want sex with women. And they will socialize with men, and even have male friends, of a sort, but they mostly live in a dark place. It is not their world, at all.
Can't we all just get along?
"Liberals...pointing out the irony..."
Okay I'm going to stop you right there. Leftists and progressives have killed irony by being so batshit crazy that perhaps even the late great Rush Limbaugh would have a difficult time "illustrating absurdity by being absurd."
ann and meade are kinda polygamists.
Serial monogamy is not polygamy, you weirdo.
I guess when celebrate every Gay stereotype and you're Gay, its Okay. I guess.
Gays are now officially "Bitchy and Campy" - hope that sticks.
Not all lesbians are butch, and not all tomboys are lesbians.
Only 47 more months of whining.
Donald definitely channels Liberace and Paul Lynde. Not that ..
Is there a way to block people like disqus has? Inquiring minds want to know.
There's some odd truth here. My impression is that the gay rights movement is largely about "this is who I am, this is who I love, let me be who I am, let me love who I love" and pushing back hard against those who would say "no, that's wrong, you can't think that, say that, love that".
And in many ways that is where MAGA Americans find themselves. This is what we love, what we think is important, we are not evil, what we love is not evil. Let us be who we are and love what we love.
And yes I know exactly how those who hate Trump would respond.
"Is there a way to block people like disqus has?"
There is an extension for Chrome called Blog Comment Killfile. After you install it, if you hover over a user name, you get an option to "hush/hide comment". Hush blocks all the users comments from showing, hide comment blocks just that one.
Off the cuff, I'd say that gay people, with all that extra baggage, are secretly grateful when someone just takes them as they are, without assigning a category to them. Trump simply doesn't give a sh*t what you are, he's more interested in who you are. My mom was like this - her outward appearance was a tiny, well-dressed old lady, but get around her, and you'd be having fun before you knew it. Trump is like that, too. MAGA is a Big Tent party, and the YMCA theme is just one part of the currency.
Leftists and progressives have killed irony
Irony is as well as it can be (after Alanis Morissette), it's satire that they've ruined.
"And in many ways that is where MAGA Americans find themselves."
Uh, no. We have sense enough to understand that certain ways of life are mutually incompatible. If we win, all the people who want to steal our stuff and rape our children lose. And that is exactly what we want to happen. We want to crush them, drive them before us, and hear the lamentations of their fat boyfriends.
There is no reason that trans/homosexuals cannot be tolerated when they occur as a minority in society. Even as couplets in civil unions. The politically congruent ("=") did them disservice by denying them equal standing as individuals. A relic of Diversity (i.e. class-disordered ideologies) and its institutional, systemic practice under DEI. Women, babies, too.
There is no reason that trans/homosexuals cannot be tolerated when they occur as a minority in society.
Ok, so I know n.n.'s comments are maybe akin to beat poetry or something, but I felt the need to respond to this... stanza?
Pedophiles, serial killers, rapists - also minorities in society (I am not equating trans people with any of these). There are easily definable reasons why these other minorities can't be tolerated. In the case of trans people, it seems to me that the behavior of the individual trans people is the factor that determines whether society can tolerate any particular trans person. Most, I tend to think, are entirely tolerable and, indeed, worthy of sympathy, because their condition, like psychopathy (and again, I'm not equating trans people to psychopaths), is an intractable psychological condition for which there is no or almost no effective treatment. But there appears to be a minority (of this already tiny minority) that, for reasons of their own (I have thoughts about this, some of them very sympathetic), want to "convert" gay kids to the idea, or ideology, that they're "in the wrong body" and must transition or die. Some appear to want to pressure straights of either sex or lesbians (I haven't heard of this happening with gay men but maybe it does) to accept sex with people whose physicality doesn't appeal to them sexually. Some seem to want to force all of society to subjugate itself to their - I don't even know if this word applies, if they really believe what they say they believe - their delusion, at the price of truth. I don't see that we as a society need to "tolerate" these specific trans people when what they mean by "tolerate" ranges from "not dare to oppose" to "celebrate." If they commit no crime, we have to tolerate them by its usual meaning. But we're under no obligation not to oppose them, and certainly not to celebrate them.
I can't believe I wrote that in one big paragraph. Beat poetry is easier to read.
Who's vexed? Maybe Daniel Lefferts is vexed, but I'm not vexed. Are you vexed?
