Historical Japanese policies re immigration are worth noting. Allow-in very few Gaigin (US military personnel are only 'Temps' and are confined to specific small areas). A shrinking and aging population will test these policies.
Japan is doomed if they start taking in millions to do the laundry.

Fictional, and not about Sweden but Norway, but the Muslim immigrants in the Netflix series "Lillyhammer" sound like the same sort of people. Steven Van Zandt is brilliant but the writing is clever and more than a bit clairvoyant about what happens when compassion morphs into suicidal empathy.
The book "The Camp of the Saints" explains this problem well. That the problem in Europe and the West isn’t immigration per se, but the pathological altruism and pathological kindness of modern culture. We have massive cohorts or our populations that literally live by the rule "better dead than rude". It would be very easy for any Western nation to deal with this issue and quickly too, but doing so would involve having to potentially hurt some people or worse - their feelings - so nobody wants to do anything about it.

I wonder how much Sweden ‘s contrarian yet successful approach to Covid has given them the confidence to take this direction.
It's easy enough to do with simple incentive systems:
1. Establish citizenship criteria that promote the native culture.
2. Turn off the welfare taps.
3. Offer transportation back to country of origin with a modest award to ease the transition.
4. And for those Swedish citizens that protest the inequality in an unequal reality, offer them the opportunity for responsible / accountable sponsorship. Let those with the passion make a difference ! Or, put up/shut up.

Shorter Sweden: "Diversity is not our strength."
Anyone who went through the Swedish education system speaks English. From the King on down to the sidewalk wino. This bilingualism may have made them think that immigrants could similarly adapt to another language; plus, so many of the immigrants probably already speak some form of broken English.
And of course, Sweden used to have a multi-lingual, multicultural empire. If they could manage the Finns and Estonians, certainly they could manage a few storm-tossed fuzzy-wuzzies.
And before that, they were the people who went all over Europe and picked up nifty ideas from other cultures - Byzantines, French, Moors, etc - to integrate into their own. Certainly the migrants would do the reverse.
Basically, they forgot that the world is mostly not Swedish.

My girlfriend is Swedish, and prior to Covid, we'd travel there every year for a couple of weeks. Her mom lived in the old town, and we would usually stay in a suburb, so we'd hop on the subway daily. We saw a distinct rise in non Swedish ethnics and associated violence, include a giant knife fight that broke out on the train we had just departed.
Sad, but the Swedes inflicted this on themselves, through both hubris and arrogance. I don't think it's too late to turn it around and I think Sweden will always now be a multi ethnic country, but they don't need to take the dregs of Syria and Afghanistan.
Its a beautiful place and I highly recommend going in the summer.

Scandinavia is very PC in its words, but can be surprising flexible and pragmatic in its policies. Socialist governments could coexist with a monarchies, an aristocracies, profitable corporations and powerful families, and billionaires, so it's not wholly surprising if Scandinavian countries implement a working solution to the immigration question more directly and efficiently than other counties. Sweden's ethnic homogeneity made the country more consensus-oriented than other, comparable countries, and one supposes they're realizing now just how disastrous it would be to throw that advantage away.

In England and Canada and Australia, it's considered more than small minded to criticize immigration, it's actually illegal. If a Paki brutally rapes and beats your daughter, and you criticize the government scum for letting him in, you'll spend more time in prison than the rapist.
I wonder what outrages it would take to get my British cousins to pick up any weapon they have at hand and deliver proper punishment to the politicians who have murdered the country. The Africans and Middle Easterners who flock to Europe are fleeing lesser cultures. Instead of importing them to European civilization, it might be better to take all those funds and build a "European" city in their home countries, administered by Europeans. If they can't handle European civilization at home, there is no reason to believe they can handle it in Europe.
