The bombs bursting in the Cybertruck gave proof through the night that our Trump Hotel glass doors were still there.🚨 #BREAKING: Las Vegas Police release new video of the exploded Cybertruck outside of the Trump Hotel, showing explosive ordinances in the back
— Nick Sortor (@nicksortor) January 2, 2025
Police credited the lack of damage to the Trump Hotel to the strength of the Cybertruck, as it remained mostly intact.

At least two people didn't understand that the power of an explosion is greatly affected by fully sealing the container and controlling the speed and direction of release. The tough Cybertruck certainly could be the right vehicle for an attack.
IMO, this guy was set on making a rather obvious juvenile political statement ("I hate Trump + Musk"), and not concerned with damage per se. Fireworks? Gasoline? Please! I'm guessing he didn't mean to kill himself and his detonator malfunctioned, but he could have wanted to go out in blaze of glory like the Nashville car bomb suicide of 2020.
Wasn't counting on the Trump Tower entrance being blast resistant either.
I'm still waiting to hear what is going on with the bus and hostages in Las Vegas. I read the culprit was taken into custody, but WEIRD that we aren't hearing anything about it on the MSM, but have to read about it in the Daily Mail.
Good for the cybertruck. But the leftist certainly sent a message didn't they? Musk Telsa/Trump tower. Looks like the MSM hate is doing its work.
Something tells me this crap is going to get worse. Just like summer 2000, the nuts on each side are going to feed off each other. Musk and Vance will have to throw Trump under the bus.
Doesn't our own Bruce H live in that building?
History doesn't repeat but it rhymes.
In the 1970s we had supply chain issues (oil/OPEC), rampant inflation, Carter's affirmative action/equity policies, and lots of terrorism worldwide.
In the 2020s we have supply chain issues (COVIDmania), rampant inflation, Biden's affirmative action/equity policies, and...likely lots of terrorism worldwide.
Reagan = Trump? Hmmm?

I hope this doesn't take away from the FBI's primary responsibility of tracking grannies that were near D.C. on January 6. Or school board critics, or pro-life groups.

Yes.
I am not an EV fan, but I might consider buying a Cybertruck. The coolness factor has gone through the roof.
That one looks pretty hot.
I just googled the "cybertruck" since I didn't really know what they were. And I went "Oh, so that's it". I've seen these, I didn't even realize they were trucks. I thought they were just "Cool" cars. Seems that you can go into "overland" mode and go off-road, and "wade" streams. Wade mode is limited to 32 inches. So, you wont be driving through the Mississippi.
So, the left comits violence, and its "Nuts on both sides". No wonder they win.
What do they win? MAGA currently dominates the executive Branch the legislative branch and the judicial branch of the most powerful Nation this planet has ever seen. You're bitter clinging to victim status is duly noted
If they politics of this attack were reversed, most of the commentariat would be pleading the case for a false flag incident.
Musk goes to market before the product is completely debugged so I would wait a few years before jumping on the Cyber truck bandwagon. He readily admits to this tactic in a interview on the evolution of Tesla vehicles with Sandy Munro a few years ago
Musk knows how to make a positive out of a negative for Tesla Cybertrucks, just like VW!
I, for one, look forward to the first product placement of a Cybertruck on an episode of Doctor Who, with of course a Cyberman driving and a Dalek in the back!
@Howard: Correction of the obvious -- JOE BIDEN or his puppet masters dominate the Executive Branch. The Democratic Party controls the Senate.
MAGA has partial control over the House, as there are many anti-MAGA people in Congress. Trump did nominate 3 SC justices, but that leaves 6 pre-MAGA justices who may choose to overrule the 3 at any time.
Wait until Jan 20 Mr. time traveller.
Musk said that the bed of the truck directed the blast upwards. Above the entryway is thick concrete - bottom of the parking garage. Above that entry are five levels of parking garage, and the pool. The hotel starts above that.
My car is typically parked the level above, but further east, and right above the bar. We are hoping to see it sometime today. Maybe. So, yes, we were there for this, and it was a pain. My partner is in the big county hospital, about 2-3 miles north of there, and I couldn’t get out until mid afternoon. She’d call, I would tell her that No, I can’t leave, and she should be able to see it on the news. Took hours to convince her that something external happened, and that I really couldn’t get there, and I wasn’t just trying to get more sleep. Then, eventually, a long walk through the staff area of the hotel, and maybe 1/4 miles hike NE to Resorts World, where they fed us, and I got a cab to the airport to pick up a rental car (usually, you can find a Budget rental place right across Las Vegas Blvd from RW, but it was New Years Day).
The good news is that, so far, everyone I know who might have been vulnerable to the blast, is fine. Even Valet who have their stand right by the blast zone. Normally, that time of day, there’s a maybe 20 year old woman behind the stand, maybe 10’ from where the truck exploded, and a half dozen (mostly) guys her age running around parking or deparking cars upstairs.
Great slogan potential —Tesla, the choice of terrorists everywhere.
Another army veteran who served on the same base as the New Orleans terrorist.
The term lame duck must be an enigma to you, LOL
Exciting day. Official residence now, due to no state income taxes. Was supposed to have started a year ago, but wasn’t fast enough, and my brother filled out tax forms showing me in MT before the end of 2023. So, as of yesterday, 1/1/25, I am, again, an NV resident.
I am trying to consolidate residences. Phoenix and Las Vegas homes both make no sense. Property values in LAS are just a little lower, so if we consolidate here, and add in the money I have in our Trump rooms, we can have a really nice place here. But until then, we live about halfway up the tower, on the back (“mountain side” vs “strip side” on the front).
“ That one looks pretty hot.”
Esp when the explosives/fireworks cooked off.
Think about it for a minute. The front of the building is still a crime scene, with tape all over the place, and a half dozen LVMPD units hanging out in front, and Musk had the foresight to pull the telemetry data from the truck, up until it exploded, and be able to announce that that it wasn’t a truck problem, but instead was a bomb problem. And be able to pull this off in the same news cycle. He could definitively show it was terrorism before anyone else could, and before the investigation really got moving. And then turn a CyberTruck blowing up from a liability to an asset - in that first news cycle. Brilliant!
@Howard: LOL. Rational thought must be an enigma to you.
Show me one official action that Trump has taken in 2024 or 2025.
Show me how many people Biden pardoned or given awards, and how much money he has spent on Ukraine as a lame duck after the election. "MAGA currently dominates..." you said.
I keep asking myself how is that thing a truck? It doesn't look like a truck. How much can it really carry? I used a search engine and got statistics I couldn't figure out, so I asked AI and got a clear comparison of the Cybertruck with a Ford F-150 truck. By weight and volume, it can haul more than the F-150. The standard Cybertruck can't quite tow as much as the Ford apparently. I'd worry a bit about taking a fully loaded one over a bridge, though, but finally -- a use for AI other than writing silly stories just to annoy people.
What are the politics of the cyber truck attack?
Seems like the guy was saying Musk is a bomb placed at the foundation of the mighty Trump edifice.
Seven people were injured in this incident
"Clark County Deputy Fire Chief Thomas Touchstone said that as first responders began to extinguish the fire, they "realized at the same time that there were multiple persons with injuries located around the vehicle."
Of the seven people injured, Touchstone said, two were taken to University Medical Center of Southern Nevada in Las Vegas. But the injuries of all seven people are considered minor, he said."
That would be the Toyota Hilux.
Did you take college chemistry? Do they still do the demonstration where they drop a tiny piece of lithium into a bucket of water?
Of course no official action but has influenced World politics from the bully pulpit he now possesses by the fact that he alone will soon control America's economic and military might. The whole world is kissing his ass right now.

Invasion USA: El Paso Edition
Excerpt:
"Knife-wielding Tren de Aragua gang members are mobbing border crossings at El Paso, Texas, in an attempt to break into the US — and have said they will attack border guards who try to stop them, according to a shocking Texas law enforcement memo leaked to The Post.
Last week, 20 of the Venezuelan gangbangers — armed with blades, tire irons and broken liquor bottles — tried to force their way into the US at a border gate, the missive from the Texas Department of Public Safety read.
Another attempt to break through is expected for New Year’s Day, the memo warned."
More at the link.
You really think it was that nuanced?
Seems like the guy was saying 'I hate Trump and Musk'. We've been wondering where the post-election lefty violence was. I think it just showed up.
The rear opens up and it has a bed roughly the same size as the F-150.
They wouldn't let you leave the building? That is pretty fucked up.
Why didn't you just call a cab, or Uber/Lyft to take you to the hospital?
considering the damage didn't even break the entry doors- you'd be wrong.
It is being reported the Cybertruck explosion outside a Trump hotel in Las Vegas was caused deliberately by incendiary devices. But what does it say about Tesla that’s so many people initially believed it was just because Cybertrucks are poorly built in designed?
It doesn't say much about Tesla but it does say that there are lots of people who have opinions on topics they're clueless about. You know- like how the left thinks women can become men or that men can have periods.
In 2023, Tesla Was The Most-Recalled Car Brand — By Far — Of All Cars, Trucks, And SUVs.

Maybe Tesla quality might improve if Elon spent more time on it instead of toilet-tweeting throughout the day.
FBI is busy chasing windmills.
Although not exactly fun to deal with, "blades, tire irons and broken liquor bottles" are no match for shotguns.
Query. Is the explanation of recent event this: agents of foreign hostile nations got inside the US through the Biden US Without Borders plan and these agents have been recruiting US citizens with clean records to carry out terror attacks? It might have seemed clever to recruit "the guy down the street." But was it?
First of all, these citizens with clean records are all being shot dead. They don't have a get-away plan. You may say fanatics don't care if they die but fanatics like that are very hard to find in America. Prolifers have been called fanatics but we were not. In reality, we did not wish to be associated with violence and moved away from the advocates for violence when we knew them. That's not what the media says but that is the truth. And based those experiences, I don't think it would be all that easy to recruit Americans to carry out violent attacks. It might seem easy because of free speech but there are other barriers here which are not obvious to foreigners. For example, once Americans realize they will be left to die in the attempt, they will think they are being used. That matters here.
This isn't Gaza or Yemen. People here can have a good life and people get second and third chances when things go wrong. In a nation of 334 million there will be disturbed souls and Biden has let in wolves to prey on them. But very few Americans are really ready to die while massacring innocents. They'd at least have to think that they'll get away. And how can they think that now?
That leads to the next point which is that these trained agents are trying to use untrained agents. It's amateur hour. The plans don't work. Potential recruits who watch media are seeing that they won't be great nihilists, they'll just be losers. These Americans might deep down think they should matter more than they do to these foreigners who are using them. There should be a workable plan and there should be a get away plan. And maybe one of the recruiters should committ with them.
If we had a real FBI, its agents could find out what's going on from citizens who refused to be recruited. There must be a lot of them.
But, of course, we don't have a real FBI. At least not yet.
Recalled for what? Anything serious? Let's do an internet search for "tesla recall", why don't we? On the first page (10 results), they are all links to a recall due to an issue with the warning light on the tire pressure monitoring system.
Since there have to be millions of vehicles on the road that don't even have a tire pressure monitoring system, this recall seems pretty trivial if you ask me.
Let's look around a little more, shall we? From motor1.com:
Tesla is the top offender for recalled cars in 2024. The largest recall affected 2,193,869 cars for an incorrect font size on warning lights.
"An incorrect font size"? Horrors!
No doubt there must have been more serious issues that needed to be dealt with, but until they were separated from nonsense stuff like the font size issue, raw totals don't tell you much, do they?
Unless you're not really interested in recalls and are just looking for a reason to take a shot at Musk/Tesla, that is. Right?
Am I the only commentator who wonders about a far-from-spontaneous pro-Palestine demonstration in New York City apparently planned days if not weeks in advance that took place the day after the New Orleans and Trump Towers terror attacks? Coincidences do happen, but this seems pretty sketchy to me. Who knew what, and when did they know it?
Mason, be careful what you sign up for. Fact checking Rich is a full time job. And the pay is lousy.
Reliable sources ;)
Not to worry, I haven't signed up for anything. I don't expect much from Rich (and he just about always delivers on that), but the issue of recalls reminded me of the one I got for my car some years ago where the "problem" was trivial and how one could, if one were of a mind to, use actual reported recall totals to make implications that, if fully investigated, might not actually be true.
This keeps getting weirder. Now they've they've discovered that the soldier had a bullet wound to the head prior go the explosion. An SF soldier who couldn't build am effective IED? This is not right. He was an active duty soldier on leave from Germany.
I think this guy must have had a break of some kind. You can't be in the Special Forces and not know about 'shaped charges'. This is the principle behind any kind of explosive charge used against armor, starting with the bazooka and going onward through virtually every kind of artillery device.
I wonder who they think are buying their BS. You don’t gain sympathy by bringing your terrorist ways here. Maybe in the UK, but even there it seems limited to politicians. I guess here some college professors are receptive, but the rest of us are happy to see new leadership that will give these martyrs their wish.
For Musk, it was a classic case of turning lemons into lemonade.
“ They wouldn't let you leave the building? That is pretty fucked up.
Why didn't you just call a cab, or Uber/Lyft to take you to the hospital?”
First couple hours, the fire doors to the elevator banks were closed, and security would chase you back in, if you ventured out. Hotel security were augmented by LEO and fire people swarming the front of the hotel. The front of the building, where you would normally exit was considered an active crime scene. Then, they just shutdown the elevators. If you insisted on leaving anyway, you had between 6 and almost 70 floors of emergency exit stairs to descend to get back up. And, if you descended 6-68 floors by stairs, you still had to contend with LVMPD enforcing that it was (their) active crime scene. Plus the street out front and the mall across the street all closed down by LVMPD, so no Uber or taxi. We were talking probably at least a dozen LVMPD units on the scene, plus the ones closing those down. Then we got an announcement on the PA system in each room announcing that the elevators were now operational, that you could exit the building, through the service corridors, but you couldn’t reenter the building. As before, this was backed up by armed LVMPD officers. I exited with the dog, and they predicted that we could return in a couple hours. We had a half mile slog over to Resorts World, where they had a nice buffet out for us, and I caught a cab to the airport for a rental car. By the time I got back, maybe around 10 pm, they were down to maybe a half dozen LVMPD units. Officially, we were supposed to retrace that Resorts World slog, in reverse, but turns out, we could sneak down the east side of the building to the service entry we had used to exit. Things were back to normal by morning, except Valet couldn’t start bringing cars down until noon or so. And, yes, LVMPD enforced no taxis or Ubers until then (they were now picking up on the street outside the hotel, which normally would get them cited by LVMPD).
LVMPD is the Las Vegas Metro PD. They were the ones in kaki uniforms you saw on CSI all the time (the CSI unit was part of LVMPD). The reason for a metro PD is that LAS is actually a bunch of mostly small cities, often controlled by the major casinos in them. It’s just much more efficient to have a shared PD for the entire metro area.
Let me add that we both know almost all of the hotel security people. When a new one comes onboard, we introduce ourselves, etc. (one poor woman came onboard Monday). My partner is good friends with a couple of the women, and I ended up sending video to one of them, who had just worked the 7-7am shift, and this was her weekend hadn’t been called back in, and hadn’t realized what she had missed by an hour and a half. We intentionally get along with security because it makes our lives easier. We don’t have to use our room keys to get upstairs, and I can ask them whether my partner has been by recently, etc. I even leave messages for her with them. Her connections with them always got her a half day’s lead on the rest of us when the Big Guy was coming to town. It was frustrating because she wouldn’t even tell me, and we have been together for a quarter century now. So, the big item here is that when hotel security are working 12s or longer, in this sort of stressful environment, we are absolutely the last ones who are going to make trouble for hotel security by ignoring their orders.
To Bruce's comment about the speed of Musk's response; yes, that is exactly the speed to which I was accustomed in the private sector. Can government operate at the speed of Musk?
Funny thing was was that at the time of the attack, my partner was at UMC. I was headed there when hotel security stopped me and sent me back upstairs. For the longest time, it seemed like she was just not buying my excuse for not being there.
It also turns out that UMC is the closest hospital to Trump. It’s also one of the three hospitals that ambulances all along the Strip will deliver you to. The three are UMC, Valley (of Death), and Sunset (Sunrise). It appears that the problem is that the other ERs have closed their doors to ambulances, because the cost of treating the homeless and drug addicts makes doing so cost prohibitive. Valley seems to have shut down most of the rest of the hospital, and has very few beds for ER admits to be sent to. I describe them as friendly, but incompetent. Its ER is located just a block north of UMC’s. Sunset solves the funding problem with surly employees, but more competent care. UMC is the big teaching hospital, as well as being the county hospital for the dominant county in the state. Care is decent (of the three, their doctors are the best), and they have the best technology in the state. But as the big county hospital, their homeless/druggie problem is the worst. What that meant for us was my partner sharing a room with an older junkie, who ended up stealing the stupidest stuff. Finally, got transferred to a single room with normal nurses and patients, and that was fine.
UMC is Best in Class, in the state in several areas, notably trauma, burns, and heart issues. I had never experienced a Trauma Unit separate from the ER. They are adjacent, but separate, separating the ER zoo, with its legions of homeless, drug addicts, and working poor, from the serious business of Trauma. Their Trauma Unit is fairly large, fairly new, with top notch staff. If you are hit by flying pieces of CyberTruck, or gang related gunfire, it’s probably where you really want to go. Probably also burn victims who will require their dedicated Burn Unit.
“ Maybe Tesla quality might improve if Elon spent more time on it instead of toilet-tweeting throughout the day.”
Not his job, and not his real interest anymore. He may be more interested in his AI driven robots, than the cars that they assemble. He’s on the bleeding edge of enough technology areas to keep a half dozen geniuses from being bored. But his biggest interest right now, is Space - The Final Frontier. And it was the federal government and its army of Deep State bureaucrats interfering with his launch plans, just because they could (and he had bought Twitter), that probably pushed him to join up with Trump. The Deep State is probably the biggest impediment to him becoming the Earth’s first Trillionaire.
I found interesting a video today showing his “Flying Pez Dispenser”. It uses one of his Starships to “dispense” a stack of communications satellites, with his will cost a couple of percent, per Terabyte, of what those not using SpaceX are paying. We are talking ubiquitous cheap high speed communications everywhere in the world, except maybe in its densest cities. It’s not just data - he will be able to undercut the big cell phone companies, without the inconvenience of coverage gaps. SpaceX is also likely to open up colonizing the Moon, Mars, and Space itself.
So, coming back around to quality control, SpaceX illustrates how he operates. He is able to rapidly iterate designs, by heavily instrumenting everything, then doing significant changes in parallel. And this seems to be going on with Tesla too. Comment was made here about them having checked the telemetry of the CyberTruck, and it’s battery was fine at the time that the CyberTruck blew up, showing, very quickly, that the battery, or anything else, to do with the truck itself, weren’t the cause of the truck blowing up. What’s going on is that Tesla is collecting significant numbers of data points in millions of vehicles, in real time, then iteratively improving its vehicles at a far higher clip than any of its competitors can even envision. Very similar to how he went from first Starship launch to being near production in roughly a year or so. It’s a technique (rapid product design cycling) that we see in software - it’s just that Musk is the first to be able to apply it to Meat Space - to rockets, satellites, robots, and EVs.
No. Not even close. But I think that Musk sees our federal government, and it’s Deep State, as the big limiting factor in how quickly he can innovate. The faster he can get ‘em to move, the faster he can iterate his product designs, and the more that he can do to change the world. So, for him, spending time trying to make government more efficient will more than pay for itself, many times over. He is now effectively a MAGA Republican, because the Democrats are the Deep State party, who are now set against him for the sin of buying Twitter, and then laying off its censors and fact checkers.
