Fox on The Five had a reporter standing in the rain and wind, hitting the hurricane script so perfectly that it had to be parody.

Milton comes in as a Cat 2, with very little storm surge.

YOU ARE GOING TO DIE.

Yeah, this is why nobody trusts our government any longer. They're fking idiots.

I wouldn't add up the storm surge damage until the storm is over and actually made landfall. Meanwhile St Lucie County- on the east side of FL, is already suffering severe damage from Milton spawned tornadoes. The St Lucie sheriff's dept HQ was destroyed b y a tornado.

ST Lucie is south of where one of my sons lives. He just sent some pics of St Lucie flooding from the rain that's arrived before Milton make landfall.

Lots of damaging things about big storms. Wind, storm surge, and massive amounts of rain.

Damage is going to be widespread. My son was counting on the eye passing north of him, Not right over him as it appears it's going to do.

Michael Mann assures us this is the future. Doesn't look so bad...

Every webcam that I'm monitoring in the area closest to the eye, which just made landfall south of Sarasota, Florida shows that all the lights are still on.

Yes it is raining heavily. Yes, there has been low-level flooding along beach areas. There may even be short-lived tornado damage.

No, you are not going to die. No, Tampa Bay isn't going to be drowned in 15 feet of seawater. Nor were you ever GOING to die. Your government lied to you in order to manipulate you into doing something that helps THEM ... but not YOU.

Again.

In a Danish newspaper, there is a quote from a Danish harbormaster who was responsible for the area where the Nordstream pipeline blew up. He noticed a couple of ships in his area of responsibly, unidentified, and with their transponders turned off, so he headed out in his launch, and as he approached, he was warned off as he discovered that the ships were US Navy. Four days later, ka boom!

Of course Joe Biden promised to "bring an end" to Nordstream, whether Germany, which owned half of it, and Russia, which owned the other half, objected or not. "We will get it done" is what he said when asked what would happen if the Germans objected.

Milton was originally predicted coming ashore north of Tampa- which would have been the worst case scenario for storm surge in Tamps. Instead, Cape Coral and Fort Myers Beach are getting the major storm surge.

Hurricane predictions are just that- predictions. As is any weather forecast. Scientific weather guessing. The further out the predictions, the less reliable.

Climate change prediction is simply total hoax. Especially since we know the earth has been warmer in the past, and the warmer it has been, the better it has been for life.

I lived in Ft Lauderdale during Andrew, and after it passed, we all said "whew!" then as the sun rose, and the news choppers got up in the air, we found out that "no news" wasn't necessarily good news.

Judging by your handle, I am guessing that you mean Cocoa Beach area. I have friends there too, but they bugged out yesterday, thanks God.

This thing isn't even downing power lines. It's not even CLOSE to an Andrew. It's barely a hurricane now, with wind gusts.

Dixcus said...

This will go down poorly as one of the most-hyped storms in history that did almost ZERO damage and nobody is going to believe the government wolf-criers next time.

Boy, I hope that's true.

I was living in the Redlands off Mowry and SW 202nd -- which is a bit west of Homestead during Andrew. Back when it was all tomato fields.

Many insurers have already exited the Florida market, and this will cause more to exit as well. Insurance prices have already skyrocketed, and this will only cause more price increases — if you can even get insurance.

At this point I wouldn't be surprised if annual homeowners insurance premiums rise to around 10% of the value of the property annually for homes near the coast. With three hurricanes a season becoming the new normal — and maybe half of those major hurricanes — there's a 10% chance a property will sustain major damage in any given year.

The new normal for hurricanes in Florida is going to devastate property values and ultimately the Florida economy. The weather is nice outside the hurricanes and the summer heat, but who wants to live in a perennial disaster cleanup/rebuilding zone and when you never know when your house will be destroyed?

How you know the current "hurricane" is a nothingburger:

MSNBC brings on Bill Nye, The Science Guy Who Doesn't have A Science Degree to announce that the only way to stop hurricanes is to elect Kamala Harris.

Dude, you're ranting about forecasters predicting the future weather and being off a bit. Not too long ago, it went from Tropical Storm to Category 5 in one day. People generally don't die when they observe evacuation orders - the reverse is generally not true.

I know Fort Myers, at least how it was 50 years ago. I almost went there to practice with a friend. The river is a mile wide and 4 feet deep.

15 days ago, I mailed a donation check to the Trump campaign. It has not been cashed so far.

The Postal Employees Union has endorsed Kamala-lala-ding-dong. Coincidence?

I will keep all of you informed if it is ever cashed.

Don't build expensive homes on the coast. It's uninsurable because all the policies go bad at once, meaning the insurance company can't spread the risk. The correct answer is go uninsured, and don't put anything valuable there.

My sister in Port Charlotte, as of 15 minutes ago, still has power and cable. Highly unusual for a category 97 hurricane. (Sarc)

History has shown us again and again how Nature points out the folly of Man.

I have friends in Charlotte County whose power is out. That's just anecdotal, of course. I'm in Lee County, well inland, and I'm only getting 30 mph winds gusting to 50, so far. Power remains on. One thing about Lee County is that the entire county got slammed by Hurricane Ian two years ago, everything that was going to blow down already blew down, and the electrical grid was mostly rebuilt after that storm, so I'm optimistic that I may not lose power. I've still done all the prep work in case it does go out, though.

First off, prayers for anyone who couldn't get out of the path of Milton, and thanksgiving that it at least appears to have taken a less destructive path than originally anticipated.

Per Stephen Green at Instapundit, reporting info from Stephen (redsteeze) Miller et al, the kerfuffle over Harris's answer to the question about whether Israel is an ally has taken several interesting turns. As expected, analysis of the aired show confirms that the answer given on the teaser clip posted a few days ago on the Face The Nation feed was edited from the broadcast, and an answer to an entirely different question swapped in (though the question was not edited). The new answer not only removed the controversial equivocation about Israel but also any mention that the US would aid Israel or that Israel was justified in responding to the attacks. Which looks like an interesting choice given the ongoing controversy over the Ta-Nehisi Coates interview on the same network.

The official CBS transcript matches the broadcast and does not include the words from the teaser clip, indicating that CBS has not released an unedited transcript of the interview (wonder what else was left on the cutting room floor).
