"Kamala Harris repeatedly pivots to Trump when grilled on immigration record in Fox News interview."

I'm linking to the Fox News report on the interview.

It was horrible to attempt to watch. I got about halfway through. I've been waiting for Harris to do a tough, challenging interview, and it was painful to watch the deflection and evasion. The main defense seemed to be to make Bret Baier look bad because he interrupted. Terrible.

Donald Trump is apparently not the only person who thinks he won in 2020. Harris keeps acting like he did and she's running against an incumbent.

Pfft, why duck out halfway through a short interview? From what I see, nothing she said was anything like the grind President Trump routinely takes on.

Train wreck. He asked about when she first noticed Biden’s mental decline and she claimed he’s fine, then tried to say Trump is declining? WTF.

And she blames the border issues on Trump, acts like she did good because they proposed a border bill on the first day in office. A bill that went nowhere even though Dems controlled congress. And ignores the fact (which Bret raised) that the executive orders to undo remain in Mexico caused all these problems. Ugghhhhh

As if to prove the Harris brain trust doesn’t grasp the power of incentives, whether economic or other incentives, Harris agreed to the high-stakes Brett Baier interview because he has a reputation as a squish.

Unwittingly, they created the incentive for Baier to prove he’s not a squish.

Because it seemed like a good time to go do the dishes and take a bath, which I was going do anyway. Doing chores seemed more amusing, so I took the opportunity to get some chores done. Sorry that bothered you! I did end up watching the second half of it just now. Everything she said was something I have heard her say before, and it was nonresponsive to Baier’s questions so there was no value to having a good interviewer. It merely exposed her as someone who has absolutely no intention of answering serious questions.

Dixcus said...

She can't answer any questions. Let's look at some hypothetical questions:

What will you do on Day One?

Can't answer that, since she could ALREADY BE DOING IT.

What would you do different than Biden?

Can't answer that. Already did on The View. She said she'd do nothing different.

Are you a candidate of change?

Can't answer that. The next question is ... what would you CHANGE that you are already doing? And why not change it NOW?

She cannot answer ANY questions.

RCOCEAN II said...

Her incompetence is irrelevant. Her Chief of Staff and Cabinet heads will make all the decisions. She wont have to persuade the American Public to do anything, because they've "elected a new people". At this point, the Democrats could put Porky the Pig in the Oval Office and nothing would change.

I switched to the Transcendental Etudes a couple of minutes in.

Playing verious versions of Liszt Transcendental Etudes on YouTube they differ a lot, and I found one I thought was best by Boris Berezovsky.

In the film In Harmony the woman gave a CD gift of a set to the male lead, who said he already had one. The woman said this is much better performance. I wondered what set that was. I could find the DVD and search it out but instead asked Edge's AI or whatever it is

"what version of liszt transcendental etudes is recommended in the film en equilibre"

"in the film En Equilibre, the version of Liszt's Transcendental Etudes that is recommended is performed by Daniil Trifonov. His interpretation is highly praised for its technical brilliance and emotional depth." and gave a youtube link.

Pretty impressive answer, but it turns out that I still prefer the Berezovsky. less muddy. You can't trust Hollywood.

Berezovsky

Trifonov

Baier ought to have asked AI about Harris instead of Harris.

Brett Baier immediately came out of the gate overly aggressive. He wouldn’t let her finish a sentence. He seemed to be trying very hard to prove he isn’t a RINO. He tried to make himself look like a loyal Trumpst. It was forced and unbelievable. What was painful to watch was this man who I thought was the most reasonable political commentator on Fox looking like a stereotypical gotcha garbage interviewer.

He must’ve realized that he had over done the aggressive act and seemed to tamp it down a bit. Harris held her own and more. It was dishonest to present the clip of Trump and Harris Faulkner without showing what Trump actually said about fellow Americans being the enemy of the people. Harris called him on it and made Fox look the the trash news channel it is.

Harris did an excellent job. Much much much better than Trump if he were to have been interviewed by Rachel Maddow or someone on MSNBC or CNN, that’s why he is chickenshit to face a tough interviewer.

Trump cultism has reached its Zenith here on Althouse.

Yancey Ward said...

But for mail-in-ballot fraud, you could stick a fork in Harris- she really would be that done.

Baier was completely fair with the questions- he was far less aggressive than any interview of Trump has been including the two Presidential debates Trump has done this cycle already. Harris' problem wasn't Baier in any sense other than the fact that he refused to let her dodge the questions. Someone finally fact-checked her just like Trump faces all the time and completely fucking melted down.

I had heard about the British sitcom "Yes, Minister" (1980-84) but had never seen it until last night. Amazon suggested it, I watched 3 eps then Ep 4 this morning. The Minister, secretary for administration, is on a TV show. The interviewer asks him about a big broither type database. The minister responds with a word salad "That is a great question. A question many people are interested in because it is a great question." Then circles around like this a couple more times until the presenter stops him and asks him to answer the question "Beg your pardon, what was the question again?"

It was exactly the kind of word salad we see daily from Kamala. I even started writing a comment about it in the earlier thread but got distracted.

Then I saw how this interview started. Kamala answered almost word for word the same as the minister. Does she prep for these things by watching "Yes, Minister"

Terrific show, btw. Not just Kamala's interview but Yes Minister as well.

I can imagine that the next 20 days we'll be seeing clips from the interview followed by "I'm Donald Trump and I approve this message."

It's Biden-Harris corrupt dysfunctional nation now. We do need to turn that page.

btw - Ana Kasparian, a veteran progressive political commentator and longtime co-host of “The Young Turks” web show and podcast, recently revealed that she left the Democratic Party after a traumatic experience.
Oh really?

I noted in a comment here a few days ago that having Harris go on Fox News for an interview was probably going to be the worst decision since having Joe Biden debate Trump. I think that I was correct.

Kamala: "But Trump Trump Trump."

Inga: "Harris did an excellent job. Much much much better than Trump if he were to have been interviewed by Rachel Maddow or someone on MSNBC or CNN, that’s why he is chickenshit to face a tough interviewer. Trump cultism has reached its Zenith here on Althouse."

Good for the DNC. They got that talking point out pronto.

One phrase in the talking points email was "Out of the gate..." which has popped up in multiple comments between 7:20 and 7:45 Eastern time. Cliche metaphor from journalism discourse that ordinary people don't normally use unless prompted in some way.
I have a professional interest in this kind of stuff: which particular bits of a talking-points-email stay unchanged in the re-write? Which pieces are memes that preserve themself in their own forms?
One of my hypotheses is that the things that get precisely replicated are familiar but not a normal part of the writer's spoken idiolect. They don't stand out enough to be obvious things to change to avoid precise quoting, but they persist in their form because the writer doesn't realize that they are recognizable.
"Out of the gate" is a dead metaphor from horse-racing that persists in journalism. I'm guessing the talking-points emails are written by former journalists who are now in the PR business.

LOL. This is the nincompoop they’re going to fraud into office. I’m pretty sure we will never see a press conference with “president” Kamala Harris. I wonder if her handlers will even tell her what decisions they make for her. Why bother, she wouldn’t understand anyway.

I thought regencies were for underage royalty. Hah. Joke’s on me.

Harris announced her candidacy in Jan 2019 and and did not suspend her campaign till December 2019. She attended 5 nationally televised debates and spent millions. Implying she didn't get votes because "she didn't try" is misleading. She dropped out before Iowa because polls showed her campaign was going nowhere.

Anybody who's been in politics long enough can dodge questions. In 2020 Harris could dodge questions, and even answer them. This time, she's saddled with all of Biden's failures and doesn't have anything else to offer.

Well, she was completely dishonest on the border. The very first question was, 'how many people have you let in?'. Simple question. Surely she knows the answer. She wouldn't give it.

Leftards see dishonesty as a strength ("By any means necessary" "Whatever it takes" "The ends justify the means") when used to further the cause. That's one reason they're so comfortable with Islamism.

Filibuster and run clock. Post-interview, Bret Baier shared w/Fox colleagues that she showed up 15 minutes late, pushing the turnaround time to get it on-air quickly as his News Hour approached. Who remembers that the last time Comey appeared on the same program, he “was caught in traffic” and missed the first 35 minutes of Baier’s show? That is no coincidence for a VP, or fucking FBI Director who get a police escort..

Trump tends not to actually dodge questions as such. He pivots to what he wants to address and then meanders back to answer the question. But if you get distracted by the first part of his answer you may perceive that to be the case.

Trump's last two "town halls" were packed with Trump supporters (including some former Republican candidates) reading favorably written questions from identical note cards that were designed to make Trump look good. But Trump got bored and played music for about 40 minutes near Philly with puppy-killer Kristi Noem attempting to be the MC. Then he conveniently held an all-women town hall in Georgia with Fox anchor Harris Faulkner hosting the show. All female questioners were again reading pre-written questions. Trump didn't disappoint telling 19 outragious lies including one where he invented IVF.

Harris put up with Brett Baier's rude questioning and interruptions while answering all questions given without advance knowledge. When Harris answered a question by noting Trump's comment about "enemies from within" getting handled by our military, Baier played a clip of Trump's supposed answer to that comment from Faulkners broadcast that denied, but didn't answer his "enemies from within" quote.

With $787 million out of pocket and more to come, Fox still lies for Trump.

Why doesn't he knock off the bullshit and get to the point?

Ann Althouse said...

"Brett Baier immediately came out of the gate overly aggressive. He wouldn’t let her finish a sentence...."

Why didn't she take command and show leadership? She's offering to defend us all from Putin and Xi, so she ought to have easily dominated Baier. But she jibberjabbered and acted afraid of the tough questions he asked. I wanted answers. Did she think Trump's executive orders on controlling the southern border should have been left in place? That was the "aggressive" question Baier began with, and he insisted that she say what she'd have done differently from Biden. We never got an answer. And now all her friends are straining to defend HER. I want her to defend US. It's absolutely pathetic. I believe she disqualified herself last night.

I thought Baier missed a trick by leading with immigration. He went full frontal against something she was prepared to deflect. He should've gone with the "most dangerous adversary" one. That put her on her heels, and gave a great opportunity to drive a wedge into her base with her support of Israel. Then hit her with immigration when she wasn't expecting it.

DEI theory is not the problem. DEI implementation is the trainwreck. Anyone who had been in the workplace in the last 50 years knows people of color not only capable of brilliance but who brilliantly do their current job day after day. When they try to move forward, they are stopped by training or education requirements that are often unnecessary to do the job they want and are suddenly waived for another candidate when convenient.

Harris was flagged early on to fill a role and did so as directed. She filled the role needed at the time by someone else. She could have taken the time learn the job(s) backwards and forwards but chose not to do so. When Biden put her "in charge of the border" her office immediately pushed back limiting the scope of the job. If Biden had been competent, he would cleared up that confusion immediate but he was more interested in the optics than the facts. He just "knew everybody hated Trump as much as he did" and would fall into line behind him.

The problem was Trump was actually not a bad president. He made some some horrendous hires and lacked personal self control in comments, but he made some good decisions as well. The Abraham Accord was a possible new solution to the Middle East. It was allowed to languish for no other reason than the Biden/Harris administration had an inflated idea of their own importance.

Where did they get that? From being flagged early for jobs they were weren't qualified for and being passes along.
