"Is it a big deal that Blake Lively said 'tranny' over ten years ago?"

Asks Out Magazine, in "Blake Lively is catching heat for using a transphobic slur multiple times in past interviews":
Lively is at the center of a lot of controversy right now after a chaotic press tour for her movie It Ends With Us and an alleged feud she had with her director and co-star Justin Baldoni. Now, people are digging into her past to find more reasons not to like her....
In the late 2000s the word "tranny" was thrown around with wild abandon, and even became a part of the catchphrase 'hot tranny mess' thanks to beloved designer Christian Siriano coining the phrase on Project Runway.... But does it mean that a celebrity saying it ten to fifteen years ago has little impact on who that celebrity is now as a person? Probably."
Here are the old quotes, which all sound like a young person's light-hearted, self-centered banter:

1. "I hope to have a few girls one day. If not girls, they better be trannies. Because I have some amazing shoes and bags and stories that need to be appreciated."

2. "I feel like a tranny a lot of the time. I don't know, I'm… large? They put me in six-inch heels and I tower over every man. I've got this long hair and lots of clothes and makeup on… I just feel really big a lot of the time, and I'm surrounded by a lot of tiny people. I feel like a man sometimes."

3. "You read the gossip magazines, and everybody is dating everyone, everybody hates everyone, everybody has had like tons of plastic surgery and they're actually men and trannies. It's just like: you don't listen to the rumors."

It's certainly not a big deal to normal people. I'm sure it's a big deal in Hollywood. She probably wouldn't sleep with a certain person and now they're out to destroy her.

In America, we could care less. Men who wear women's clothing have always been trannies to us and always will be and we're unafraid to say it because you can't destroy me for saying words you don't like, or not jumping on your casting couch.

Tranny - If it's illegal to say it, I will say it.

that was 50 genders ago, what Earth is this now,

Her quotes are adorable. Only the speech-crime always-offended Nazi-left could find offense.
Do leftist Nazis have better things to do? Nope.

Blake said: " I feel like a man sometimes." - I love that. Ya have a man's name. That helps.

"Is it a big deal that Blake Lively said 'tranny' over ten years ago?"

Absolutely.

If you go against the Party they will find something you shouldn't have said.

I happen to know personally, from unimpeachable sources, that Mr. Blake Lively has had several impure thoughts since birth. Not that I think anybody should take action on such facts.

Peachy said...

If the Nazi Left run out of things and people to cancel - they will keep digging.

Aggie said...

Oh, pardon me. I've misgendered the poor thing.

As long as we don't call them commissars....

And if they can't find anything, then you probably raped some woman 30 years ago in the summer of 1982 or 1983.

And it was in a public changing room or at a house they can't remember the address of.

These people are psychopaths. That's what they called themselves at the time. I lived in Palm Springs and the place was crawling with all kinds of non-confrontative (again their term) types who used words that would make Michelle Goldberg and her ilk choke. And they have a right to self-identify, just as much as today's transactivists have a right to call themselves the Queen of New Parts if they want.

Why should anyone else care? Who appointed these fucking word police? I want to defund the word police!

Typical leftist thinking - anything they're offended by right now is and always has been offensive, and people in the past should have KNOWN it was offensive and shouldn't have done it.

And once someone has offended, even if it was many years ago, they must be punished severely so they never think about offending again...

Lord, I'm so damned tired of wokescolds who trawl endlessly through people's pasts looking for damning statements that weren't a problem at the time, and whip up controversy to get a moment's attention.

Peachy said...

Indeed - it they cannot find anything - they have the judges and the lie machine to conquer you.

Mike (MJB Wolf) said...

Doesn't he! He's the most powerful imaginary guy to some people.

Temujin said...

Cue the hand-wringing. I do believe if a leftist wakes up in a good mood, she or he (but usually a she) will find something to be miserable about. This could not be more meh if it sought out to be meh. I guess if you're 'Out Magazine' you've literally got to make things up to fill the issue.

Mike (MJB Wolf) said...

Ach! Above "non-confrontative" should read "non-conFORMative" which is what I thought I selected from the drop-down list of approved words (right-click etc. on my many misspellings). I regret the error.

I guess car mechanics can't talk about trannys (aka transmissions) either.

I don't think the issue is so much these particular comments made a decade or so ago, remarks that are actually affirming of transgender individuals, and not hateful or demeaning in any way. It's the practice of ferreting out comments, photos, relationships and so on, from someone's past and then weaponizing all that to try and take down that targeted person. Blake Lively is in the public eye and it goes with the territory but this seems so vicious and pointless.

One can never be unburdened by what has been.

Love her. She's buxom and blonde and traditionally a knock-out. It's great that she feels big and mannish when she's actually such a barbie.

Mike (MJB Wolf) said...

Car guys use the term all the time.

These people are thugs and bullies. I am currently (re)reading 1984 and they would fit right in. As in the now classic George Orwell meme: "Did I call it or what?" (I have no idea who this woman is; the only Blake I'm aware of in showbiz is Edwards.)

MJB Wolf: Queen of New Parts - that’s great! Reminds me of the Loverboy song, Queen of the Broken Hearts:

You were born with it
And now you got it
The way you want it
And you don't care
Cause nothin's gonna bring you down

You were born with it
And now you got it
And oooh you flaunt it
And you don't care
Cause nothin's gonna bring you down
No...

But she's not that kind of girl
I'm tellin' all the world
She was born the Queen of the Broken Parts!

Sleep with dogs end up with fleas. Did Blake think she would be spared the vitriol of saying something years ago that isn't allowed by Progressives anymore?? She SHOULD rethink who she is voting for, if she were smart. Otherwise, get used to it. You are voting for it.

Sometimes the mob cancels a celeb just for the awesome fun of cancelling a celeb. What joy to stone Roseanne and Ellen to death with a million pebbles......I give Tom Cruise credit. The cancel mobs have formed outside his palace many times, and still he endures. He's definitely a Scientologist, dates women half his age, says foolish things on Oprah, and was the butt of a South Park show, and he's a bigger star than ever. That last MI movie was pretty good. He's more resilient than J.K. Rowling and Chappelle combined.

I never say it for good reasons, they don't come up. I associate tranny mostly with trolley and tram. The Toonerville Trolley cartoon comes to mind. There was some odd marriage arrangement in that, with Katrinka and the rolling pin.

Just what is Blake supposed to call a trannie?

gadfly said...

During the first 50 years of my life or until the mid-1990s, "tranny' was a shortening of the word "transmission', as in a motorized vehicle transmission, which enabled the shifting of gears. Strangely, today's dictionaries don't even go there - I suppose because complex vehicle transmission repair is far beyond homegrown mechanic's resources.

Well, I think we should have compassion for the mentally ill. Unless it's mandated that we pretend they're not mentally ill. In which case, fuck it.

This story is fascinating to me. I know very little about this celebrity but the coordinated media take down is really something to watch. It reminds me of the take down of Ellen. Does anyone else wonder how these campaigns start? Why now? After more than a decade.

Is this a contract dispute with a studio? Did she piss off a personal assistant? Why is this person a media target?

The real question is whether she said it while standing on stolen native land.

Yet another entry on the long list of people being accused of offending people when there was never any intent to offend anyone.

She’s about 5’9, which is quite tall for a woman but average for a man in the US. But in high heels she’s about 6 feet. Only women and trannies wear high heels.

I thought that a tranny was a "cross dresser" or "female impersonator". Short for transvestite. Usually for purposes of entertainment, kink, or prostitution. I also thought it was a completely different thing than a transgender person. Not that a transgender person wouldn't/couldn't take part in those activities also. One dresses up like that and the other lives it (allowing for much variation, of course).
As far as Blake goes, definitely a 4 speed w/ creeper gear.

Biff said...

It's interesting that "transvestite" has all but disappeared from the lexicon, too. We live in an age where nearly any kink is acceptable, but being a simple, old fashioned cross dresser appears to go beyond the pale.

"Light-hearted banter" is how I make my living.

Sometimes the banter is deemed harmless. With enough determination, the banter can be represented as "hate speech." It depends on who is offended/threatened. Of course, none of it hate speech, until it needs to be. Schrodinger's Hate Speech.
