"A small but significant slice of Black men have historically been hesitant to support Black women seeking the highest positions of power...."

"Dr. Moya Bailey, a Northwestern University professor who coined the term 'misogynoir' to describe racist misogyny, said in an interview that while patriarchy is not unique to the Black population, 'the consequences are much higher.' Scholars note that a demographic group that is conservative on many social issues has historically equated leadership with masculinity, borne out in the dearth of Black female leaders in the church, business and elected office.... Ms. Harris will... face a significant challenge in motivating Black men to go to the polls, said W. Mondale Robinson, the mayor of Enfield, N.C., and the founder of the nonprofit Black Male Voter Project. Ms. Harris is 'not a trusted messenger for Black men,' he said.... 'Everything she says will be looked at with a side eye from Black men because there’s a lack of trust in politicians coming for you in election years, saying they’re going to do something and then they didn’t deliver on it,' Mr. Robinson said...."

I see they’re warming up their excuses for why different people don’t vote for Harris.

Prediction: none of those excuses will include her being a bad candidate with bad ideas and no demonstration of competence.

Boy oh boy, those black men really aren't positioning Kamablah for success.

Only an idiot believes the polls showing Kamala rocketing ahead nationally when the cracks in her coalition have never been stronger. By October, it won't even be within the margin of fraud. They'll need another attempt to murder President Trump.

If it is small how is it significant? Not very many but enough? If it's worth writing about then it seems like it is significant. Or why mention it? Maybe black men don't want to vote for her because she got off on throwing their butts in jail when she was a prosecutor.

She's not a Black woman. She's Indian. And, BLM doesn't support her, so it's a stretch. There is something called Black by Convenience, and the Democrats love to assign a Race du Jour to whomever fits their narrative. How was she raised, Mark? Why did she go to Howard? I understand it was in order to connect with her Black heritage - because she hadn't before, having been raised by her Indian mother with little influence from her Jamaican father. So she went on a quest to create Black experiences for herself.

I don't fault her for that. I go out of my way to explore my Irish heritage though it's only about 3/8 of me, because it's the part that my extended family hews to most strongly and it's fun being Irish. But - why should people raised in Black culture think that her young adult experiences at Howard are equivalent to their upbringing?

The way you grew up is formative. It's not dispositive, but it molds you in ways that your adult experiences can seldom re-form out of you. Families that mix two very different cultures have to make an active effort to encompass both of those cultures if they want their kids to feel truly a part of both. It seems to me that White Boy J.D's child Vivek is probably going to have that experience.

You know, Althouse, instead hunting for some half-baked academic theory with made-up four syllable words, you might consider that the last time black family men saw real wage gains was when Donald Trump was President. You might consider that some black men are questioning the idea that they must vote for someone of racial solidarity rather than economic self-interest. You might consider that some black men are sufficiently economically sophisticated to wonder why, if Kamala Harris could really lower grocery prices by signing some executive order “on day one,” she and Joe didn’t do that years ago.

But as a non-STEM university professor the half-baked academic theory with four syllable words must be mightily attractive to you.

The problem here is that being Black here imputes, for many, a cultural, along with a racial component. To be Black implies sharing a history of slavery, KKK, Jim Crow, etc oppression. Harris shares none of that. Neither did Barack Hussein Obama II. They share nothing more than Black DNA. None of the cultural history or experiences. Contrast that with Michelle Obama, who was a true American Black, having descended from those experiences. And their marriage may be why Barack the Younger was given a pass on his Blackness.

Dr K has repeatedly pointed out, that with the surgeons he trained, foreign born Blacks he has taught, who did not come from the same cultural history typically did much better than those who did. Moreover, most American Blacks are multiracial, ranging from having mostly African DNA, to mostly not. In the Jim Crow South, the miscongeneration laws were often stricter than those imposed by Hitler on Jews.
