In the years leading up to this 2024 election, we have watched closely as every pathway for online voices has been shaped, changed and in some cases eliminated. One example is very close to home here at CTH, where Google has said -directly- the content within the comment section is the justification for their demonetization. If The Conservative Treehouse does not shut down comments, Google Ads (controlling 75% of all online revenue) will NOT be permitted. ¹The goal is to shut down the conversation.

Let that sink in for a moment if you didn’t already. It’s not the content of the website that generates the censorship, it is the CONVERSATION in the comment section that Google is concerned about. Take that example as an empirical datapoint and then extend it. Now you understand why the comment sections in various platforms have been removed, and even worse the 3rd-party software plug in (like Disquis) is heavily controlled and moderated.

“Donald Trump Gets No Black Votes vs. Kamala Harris in New Michigan Poll”

The WDIV/Detroit News poll found that the presidential race is a dead heat between Trump, the Republican nominee, and Vice President Kamala Harris, the presumptive Democratic nominee—with each receiving 41 percent of support.

Among the Black voters surveyed, 82.1 percent supported Harris, 11.5 percent backed independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr., and none supported Trump.”

In an early release of Christopher Wray's memoir, it turns out he has been studying the assassination of JFK. Differing from prevailing evidence and the Zapruder film, Wray posited that it wasn't the bullet from Lee Harvey Oswald's Mannlicher–Carcano rifle that killed Kennedy. According Wray's theory, the bullet first struck Texas Gov. John Connally's tie clasp, severely injuring Connally. The tie clasp then flew off Connally's tie and proceeded to hit JFK in the head and killed him. Critics in the media were initially skeptical but have since come around to the possibility.

LOL

Here we go again with Inga the Wind Up Toy!

You'd think she would have learned her lesson yesterday (Trump "formally withdrew" from the debates!!!) but no. If Inga was capable of learning, would she really be Inga?

I think not.

So, away we go!

Inga, how many black Michiganders took part in the WDIV/Detroit News poll? Remember, they only claimed to have polled 600 people total....

Of course, since I take pity on Inga, as we all should, all things considered, let me help out Inga out: Newsweek admits there is no way of knowing how many blacks answered the poll.

Yes, you read that correctly, a "poll", which is supposed to be rigorous and capture all relevant demographic data, contains....none of that!!

And Inga bites down hard on it like a young Kamala hanging with her "mentor" Willie Brown!!

LOL

Thanks Inga! We all needed a good laugh.

“Drifting” he says? They’re already there. This guy is kind of right, no? Just saying. Think about it. I knew an old purged and exiled ex-Communist Party member who said she read Pravda for the truth and the read the NYT “for the fucking lies”. Ridiculous I thought then, but now? Go figure?

What a disgrace. No redeeming value to that guy.

"Yet he volunteers idle speculation before Congress when it he thinks diminishes Trump?"

Yes.

Wray purposely, with intent, maliciously offered up that bit of BS as lefty talking point red meat and launched it into the media sphere knowing full well how it would be used.

Just like the "51 former intelligence officials" hoax protecting the astonishing openly corrupt Biden crime family.

That's why today's announcement from the FBI, generic with no name attached, putting Wray's BS to bed seems so strange. Wray himself, after seeing the reaction, almost certainly knew he had gone too far in exposing his alliance with the New Soviet Democraticals and so they walked it back to reality.

This country desperately needs Kamala Harris to be the Democrat nominee.

Inga said...

From Peggy Noonan…

“I had long thought Kamala Harris couldn’t beat Donald Trump. That’s wrong. She can.

We’re a 50/50 country, each side gets 40 going in, you fight for the rest but it can always go either way. As people who speak the technical language of politics say, Mr. Trump has a high floor but a low ceiling.

But beyond that, something’s happening.

Ms. Harris has not, in five years on the national stage, shown competence. She is showing it now, and that is big news. Her rollout this week demonstrated talent and hinted she may be a real political athlete.

Her past and famous verbal embarrassments, which shaped her public reputation, almost all took place in interviews and ad libbed arias. They obscured a real proficiency.

She was striking and strong in this week’s speeches in Milwaukee and Houston. She knows how to act a speech. When she is scripted she is good. That isn’t all put-down. She knows what a good speech is. She can judge it, recognize good material. Not all candidates can. Most can’t. It is its own talent.

Milwaukee especially had power. Its theme: “We’re not going back.” We’re not going back to Jan. 6, 2021, to the old ways, to unfreedom, to racism, sexism, to Trumpian America. We’re going forward into something new and exciting. She was positing that it is bigger than her.

Among those who follow politics closely and are highly online for political content, views of Ms. Harris hardened long ago. But to those of relaxed engagement, especially the young, she will be a new figure. They’ll be seeing her for the first time. They’ll be open to what they see.

Her party is newly alive and loaded for bear. This is what top Trump staffers feared, according to Tim Alberta’s heavily reported work in the Atlantic. They didn’t fear Joe Biden. What they feared was “institutional Democrats,” in the words of Susie Wiles. The Democratic Party is a machine, a vast network of groups and money lines that knows how to get out their base and a would-be base. A deteriorated Joe Biden couldn’t fully capitalize on this. A dispirited party wouldn’t fully produce it.

But a new and revived candidate who woke everybody up? That would be a danger.”

As Politico reports, the new name of the game is "weird":

[Against] former President Donald Trump and his running mate JD Vance, Democrats are leaning into a new attack line against the Republican ticket: that they’re just really weird.

“It perfectly describes the uneasiness people feel. It’s how people who don’t live and breathe politics every day react to hearing the Republican vice presidential candidate denigrate people without children,” said Tim Hogan, a Democratic strategist . . . . “It’s simple. It’s how you might talk to your neighbor about the crazy political climate we’re living in.”

And when the Harris campaign sent out a memo on Thursday responding to Trump, on what they described as “a 78-Year-Old Criminal’s Fox News Appearance,” they included . . . this [takeaway]: “Trump is old and quite weird . . . ”

Nice of the FBI to acknowledge that its Director misspoke when testifying to Congress, i.e., Donald Trump was wounded by a bullet. American prosperity and rising incomes (now badly maldistributed to the superrich to the detriment of everyone else—but that's a distributional problem, not a fundamental problem) arise from the continued cooperation and integration of the economies of the advanced democracies since the Second World War. American Internationalism is the core of American domestic economic success through international economic and financial leadership of its allies.

The alliance of advanced democracies is the richest and economically most successful international grouping ever — and it is built on democratic cooperation, not strongman assertions of national power. In contrast, authoritarian and autocratic powers utilize predatory and coercive uses of power at each short-term opportunity on the assumption that short-term extractions of advantage make for long-term success.

The Trump-Vance view of economic and inter-state diplomacy is to set aside if not undercut economic integration and overarching political cooperation for a regime of asserting short-term power advantages to coerce short-term benefits — and let the devil take the hindmost. Transactional power assertion substitutes for democratic cooperative leadership. You want to lead Nato, not blackmail Nato.

Trump is some sort of idiot-savant ignoramus. Vance is a Yale-educated opportunist unanchored in any consistent successful school of thought in modern politics. Instead, he rather cynically believes that far-right politics has a chance of capturing a majority in an American society that ultimately always moves forward, not backwards into reactionaryism. Truly a bright young man out of place and out of these times — his tin ear gives him away.

Very interesting article at The Federalist centered on a DOJ IG memo that details in just under 100 pages how rabidly out of control assistant special prosecutor Cooney has been. Going back to the end of Trump’s term he has been spreading lies within the department, leaking misleading information to left-friendly media outlets and arguing for outrageously high sentencing guidelines when it comes to Trump and his allies. Yet opting not to prosecute at all for similar crimes by Trump haters like the FBI’s McCabe. Mollie Hemingway does a good job of condensing the long detailed IG report, which was released the 23rd with little notice by DNC Media, into a dense 1500-word article.

Cooney is Jack Smith’s top deputy in his rabid pursuit of Trump and Trump associates. His story is one more clue into how we got here and why those cases are all, as in all, starting to fall apart with the scrutiny of one Federal judge asking simple questions like, “Has the DOJ ever done this before?”

"A burning car pushed into a gully sparked California’s largest wildfire of the year, authorities said Thursday as they announced the arrest of a suspect. Meanwhile other blazes scorched the Pacific Northwest.

Flames from the fire the man is accused of starting exploded into what is now the Park Fire, which has burned more than 195 square miles (505 square km) near the city of Chico. Evacuations were ordered in Butte and Tehama counties, with the blaze only 3% contained by Thursday evening.

California authorities did not immediately name the man they arrested.

Trump should retain Liz Truss. They share the same implementation vision and skills

America Firsters forget one thing that also Brexiteers forgot: they have exports too.

Sure, they import more than they export but the share of exports on the US economy to the entire rest of the world is higher than the share of exports in most countries (except maybe for Canada and Mexico) going to the US. The rest of the world is still considerably bigger than the US economy.

It was the same fallacy in Britain when they talked about their trade deficit with the EU being an advantage in Brexit negotiations. It never was, as Britain sent almost half its exports to the EU while even Ireland had only 12.5% of its exports going to the UK. So any disruption in trade would always hit the UK harder than any EU country even though in absolute numbers the EU would lose more. But since it was much bigger, that loss would weigh much less than what the UK would lose as a proportion of its economy.

This is how I would explain this to a 10 year old: imagine an elephant and a bulldog get into a fight. In that fight, the bulldog loses 1 liter of blood, the elephant loses 1.5 liters. Note that the elephant loses more blood than the bulldog. Question: who feels worse? The 10 year old answered correctly. The elephant might feel a bit dizzy while the bulldog will probably die.

The same will play out in a trade war US vs. rest of the world. And the US in this case, for once, won't be the elephant and their exports will be the blood they lose. Nationalists always fall for the same simple math delusion. One that even a 10 year old can see through.
