Let’s watch the Biden press conference.

Now, they’re saying it will start at 7 ET.

Watch here.

Too much delay. It makes a bad impression. And we haven’t even seen him yet.

It’s starting to feel as though this press conference isn’t going to happen, but that will get some sort of announcement that Biden is going to drop out. It’s gotten really boring waiting.

Ah! Here he is.

I think he's doing reasonably well.

He keeps saying "Don't hold me to this."

He’s leapt over the low bar. This is the candidate. Deal with it, Democrats.

“I gotta finish this job.”

Whoa! He said his delegates, at the convention, are free to vote for anyone they want!

The other day I said I am about 75% confident that he stays in. Not seeing anything tonight to impress me but neither do I see anything to change my estimate.

I would be willing to bet a couple dollars, but not many, that if he does not resign the campaign by Monday night (probably Sunday but give him a day of grace) he is not going to. I doubt he will resign the presidency and give it to Kamala. That would be too much exposure for her. People would get a chance to test drive her and decide "Naaaahhhh..."

He has been fake coughing into his right hand all night. I hope he washes, or at least sanitizes, it before he goes out shaking hands. The least he could do is use his left hand. Or he could follow health department guidelines and cough into his elbow. Dracula style.

Just before I handed off control to my wife and left he was talking about all the corporations in Delaware.

He did not mention that the reason so many are is because of how lax Delaware law is. If you are going to engage in shenanigans, Delaware is where you want jurisdiction.

The entire Biden Crime Family has no other means of income other than the selling of American policy to the highest bidder overseas. It's all they've ever done and all they'll ever know.

And if you are biden, wouldn't you be pissed that the Clintons cashed in to the tune of billions (including selling off US uranium to Putin's pals themselves thru their Canadian subsidiary....after being "vetted" by none other than Robert Mueller!) and the obambi's were handed hundreds of millions and the Dementia-Glitch wants his share of that sweet sweet cash.

You know, I have to say I am a bit surprised that Inga presented herself for years as being able to read Robert Mueller's mind ("You don't know what Mueller knows!") but never relayed to us what Li'l bobby thought about his dirty work to clean up the Clintons after moving that much US uranium to Putin control.

Did he formally announce he was releasing his delegates to vote for anyone on the first ballot? I assume not (although I haven't watched the press conference). Or was he just garbling his facts a little, perhaps referring to the "in all good conscience" rule?

My guess is:

1 part ego,

1 part a genuine belief that Kamala and the other Dem candidates are not up to the task because he genuinely believes he is a skilled operator, especially internationally, and

1 part derangement (to be clear, a mild derangement at this point, but derangement nonetheless).

For the sake of the nation and the world I am relieved that Biden made a good show. He was calm and appeared lucid, His eyes looked like someone was home. Some of his statements about the economy were lies and his comments about the VP doing everything she was asked to do (e.g., handling the border) is laughable considering that our country now has the largest human trafficking operation in the world, at least 85K children who came across the border without parents are unaccounted for and US taxpayers paid for their delivery to non-family members.

There is no question that despite his diminished capacity Biden is extremely motivated to hold on and continue his campaign. He has to know that the bottom could fall out at any time but he refuses to let that reality determine his decisions. I don't know why anyone would want to climb out on a ledge like that and stay there, but he is doing it. I guess when the alternative is shuffling off to Wilmington and doing nothing, and knowing Dr. Jill really doesn't want that, staying in is a better choice than quitting.

Biden promised to listen to doctors and be tested if they advise it. I hope that if they decide he is incapacitated he will resign. The whole thing seems a little Alice in Wonderland though.

Everyone know that Biden has always been a really nasty piece of work. John's theory is that he was a nasty piece of work at hoome too. Jill put up with it to be a Senator's wife.

But now that he has some severly diminished capacity, it's payback time. Jill's (supposed) elder abuse is as much about revenge as it is about power.

Most of them could not phrase a question to save their mortal soul, but each gave a 90 second or so speech. From those 90 seconds Joe was supposed to pick a question. Or Joe just winged it and said what he wanted to.

From law school practice. "The White House logs show 14 visits to the White House by a neurologist in the last 12 months. Are you being treated for a neurological condition?"

Second Question; You just said you had submitted to three sophisticated neurological tests. What were the results?"

It wasn't the Republicans who denied Democratic primary voters any kind of choice. It was the leadership of the Democratic Party what did it, who locked in Joe Biden to the point that it would take an "act of God" as Biden averred, to wrest the nomination away from him.

Joe Biden is the most irresponsible president that we have ever had. Tonight reminded me of an old joke about a guy who goes to the doctor, and the doctor said, "I have good news and bad news"

"Well, give me the bad news first, then maybe. the good news wil cheer me up."

"OK, you're dying, three months max."

"Jeez Doc, what's the good news???"

"See that hot nurse over there? I'm banging her."

Joe was elected to the US Senate in 1972 when Nixon swept every electoral jurisdiction except for MA and of course DC. He thinks there has never been a better, smarter, get-things-done guy than he has been in DC. Hillary? Michelle? Amateurs!

Guess what? He will never drop out of this race. He'll give you his word as a Biden that he will never quit.

In every swing state, in the backrooms of every Democrat vote fixing operation, the cadre of young vote fixers stopped what they were doing to watch Joe Biden deliver his "prepared" remarks. The moment the rigged press conference was over there were expressions of relief and an increased hum of vote-counting computers being "updated". I think of that scene in "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel" where Joel confronts the yelling patrons of the downstairs Chinese gambling den. Everyone falls breathlessly quiet. Joel says a few words to the quiet crowd then leaves. In an instant the gamblers start yelling once again, calling out their bets.

I note that Biden answered almost every question that wasn't directly about NATO by turning it to NATO. That includes when he was talking about China - he was focused on China's relationship with Russia and the disadvantage it creates for NATO members.

The only significant exceptions were the questions about his fitness, which he deflected, denied, or (deliberately?) misunderstood, and the questions about Harris (a subset of questions about Biden's fitness), which he answered by undermining her, even when he said he wouldn't have picked her unless he thought she could be president - because he followed that up by saying he was staying in the race because only he could win it and finish what he'd started.

In other words, he read a speech from teleprompters, then took questions from pre-chosen press members from the likes of NPR and CBS and answered them by turning to what he had literally just finished doing an hour before, or by campaigning, something he's been doing for fifty years.

Truly a tour de force. I know I'm reassured.

“Big boy press conference.” Very late start with no explanation leaving people to imagine WTF. Scripted poorly delivered speech. Preselected “reporters” who never would have agreed to this format before the Biden era. Wandering answers that covered his usual toolkit: lie about Trump, creepy whispering, fanciful stories (he met with Golda Meir before he even was a congressman?), occasional shouting for no apparent reason, slurred together words, the old “anyway…” trail off, lotsa filler (“Well guess what,” “you know what,” “here’s the thing” etc), and of course the impossible to diagram rhetorical cul-de-sacs and double backs that added a lot of time without getting to the point or answering the preselected questions.

A truly presidential press conference would be calling on random reporters and taking questions on the top topics that Americans consistently name as our main concerns: inflation and the generally sluggish economy, the open borders and the huge problems that may flow from it like terrorism the rising crime in places they dump these unvetted swarms, the coordinated banana republic lawfare his administration is waging against Trump, the faltering grid weakened by the Green Energy push and the rush to technology that needs more power resources right now.

It was a farce but good enough for the pretenders to claim victory yet not executed well enough to reclaim the Democrats who have to run on the same ticket with him in a few short months.

imTay said...

I can't see how it was anything other than a complete display of Biden's lack of control, and his low intelligence and ignorance. First off the bat he admits that he was given a list of reporters, so no "big boy" press conference, but training wheels.

He says that he tries to limit events, and then when asked about his "acknowledged limitations," he denies that he did.

We could go on, but this is not a man of presidential caliber. And his "foreign policy expertise" consists of having mastered the art of endless war, he knows how to just innocently blunder into war after war, and I will tell you, that's no mean feat. I am just not sure that it's what America really needs in a leader, maybe it's time for that crowd to fade away. This might be one of those times where you throw out the baby and the bathwater, if the baby is a superannuated neocon like Joe Biden.

Jamie said...

Someone yesterday or the day before herein (I think it was here, but I can't rule out news programs on tv - which I haven't watched since probably just post 9/11 but which have been on a lot in my house lately), talking about cognitive tests, was saying that the screening during a physical can't be relied on because to the extent that it requires you to use skills you've been using all your life, you don't lose those as fast.

(I dare you to diagram that sentence.)

Biden has been involved in foreign policy for the better part of half a century, and in politics for a bit longer. It doesn't surprise me at all that he can still rattle off foreign policy-speak in politician dialog ("we facilitated this, we made a bold commitment to that"). I wish I could say I was entertained by the MSNBC and CNN commentators agreeing with one another that Biden was able to talk "substantively" about foreign policy in a way Trump could never have managed, but I wasn't; I was just irked and periodically yelled, "Bull****!" at the screen.

I've mentioned this before. The amount of money Jill is holding out for is worth hundreds of millions. It's all about the money. That is the only thing that walking cadaver is good for.

"MSNBC went full retard in attacking Trump."

So did our resident dullard. Both never disappoint.

From "2001, A Space Odyssey," HAL9000 as Dave disinstalls his memory units:

"I've still got the greatest confidence and enthusiam in the mission. And I want to help you.... Dave, stop. Stop, will you? Stop Dave? Will you stop, Dave?... Stop Dave. I'm afraid.... I'm afraid, Dave. Dave, my mind is going. I can feel it. I can feel it. My mind is going. There is no question about it.... I can feel it. I can feel it. I can feel it.... I'm...afraid."

Compare and contrast with Joe Biden's press conference.

Joe exhibited aphasia - loss of names/words; derailment of thoughts - starting on one issue and segueing inappropriately to another, and use of shortcuts when lost in speaking. He repeatedly stumbled mentally and then said "for example" or "anyway" before saying something that was firm in his mind, as if from 40 years of speeches, but not necessarily apposite to the question he was lost in answering. He even threw in a fake bit of supposed anger over guns, just as in every speech he's ever made on the subject, except the question wasn't about guns at all.

My spouse, an MD, pointed out another symptom he exhibited: his inability to control swallowing automatically, an early sign of dysphagia, was exhibited as he kept clearing his throat again and again and again. This can last for months to years before the inability to swallow becomes uncontrollable consciously, in the final stages of dementia.

I witnessed elder abuse last night. CNBC dicn't even show Joe walk on stage, they cut to him standing at the podium. Better safe than sorry, I guess.

Also, as a relatively unimportant aside, who prepared the visible list of questioners for Joe? Were the press questioners aware of their chosen status before the presser? Were their questions provided to them, or by them, for preparation before the event? Why were there over 100 press members sitting there like lap dogs putting up with that staged BS? CNBC didn't even show Joe walk on stage, they cut to him standing at the podium. Better safe than sorry, I guess he might have shuffled or tripped. Why did the chosen few submit to the complete loss of their credibillity, or what littl ethey possess, playing along with that?
