James Madison declared, "A popular Government without popular information or the means of acquiring it's but a Prologue to a Farce or a Tragedy."
I wonder if we are past the prologue part. It is amazing how little people know of the truth of that which they make choices for their governance. They instead choose to build a castle of partial truths and outright lies as a bulwark against facts that will disabuse them of their comfortable notions.
In the words of Gordon Ramsay when he sees a broken sauce on a contestant's plate: "That's a shame."
Coming on the heels of Trump challenging Biden to a golf match, potential replacement Dem nominee JB Pritzker has challenged former R presidential candidate Chris Christie to a donut eating contest. Winner take all ... so to speak. What Pritzker left unsaid was that he has been in training for this event for years.
It's hard to find a flaw with #1. Probably because it's perfect.
The second picture, like other recent ones featuring the sharp tiny image of the sun are impressive in that they capture what I think you wanted to capture. While perfect in detail they don't touch me in any way. Just the thoughts of a single "beholder".
I'm stuggling to reconcile truth and beauty with heartache and ugliness, right now.
My closest friend (the ONE who knows most of my toubles and triumphs and shares their own - and isn't timid about telling me when I'm a fucking idiot), is dying.
Went to the doc for garden variety eye exam, two days ago. Got sent to the ER because some vision change suggested a mild stroke.
Eval showed no stroke; just stage 4 brain cancer of a very aggressive type. Average survival for people over 65 is 4 months.
Collin Rugg @CollinRugg JUST IN: Crowd starts cracking up after Ben Shapiro breaks Democrat Rep. Eric Swalwell's brain after he asked a question about Project 2025.
Swalwell: "How much do you support Project 2025?"
Shapiro: "Like President Trump, I haven't looked all that deeply at Project 2025, but it seems that Democrats on this committee are sort of like Peter Pan and Tinkerbell. If they say Project 2025, enough, their presidential candidate becomes alive again."
I have struggled with birds decimating my blueberry crop. I used to put netting over each individual bush, but that is a pain as the berries don't ripen at the same time. So I got the bright idea of making an enclosure. Twenty feet by fifty feet. Netting around the sides, chicken wire on top. The goofball birds squeeze through chicken wire on top and dine to their hearts content. The sparrows then escape, but the larger birds, mostly Catbirds???, are hopelessly trapped. I fish net them and release them. What a pain. So for now it's back to covering each bush.
Next year it will be remove chicken wire and replace it with netting. I am concerned that during winter snow will collect on the netting and collapse it.
Over in the Netherlands some disgusting idiot defaced a memorial to Anne Frank by spraying “GAZA” on it in red paint. I learned about this from Tom Knighton of “Tilting at Windmills,” and his take is succinct: They’re protesting what they claim is a genocide by defacing the statue of someone killed in an actual genocide.
@NKP, i’m Very sorry. Something like that happened to a close friend of mine — a case of arthritis turned to be stage 4 bone cancer. He blew right through the six months he’d been given to live and made another three years beyond it. What worked for my friend was the people around him helping him keep his spirits up and helping him maintain an optimistic, upbeat outlook. No guarantees that the same will help your friend, but perhaps worth a shot.

We had twenty five bushes- the previous owner built wooden runners with post supports, spaced the width of the nylon netting. we would staple the netting once berries emerged then when the bushes were done pull out the staples and roll the nets on to large dowels. A two person job but only took twenty minutes or so…
NKP, my husband's first college roommate recently passed away after a similar set of circumstances. He outlived his chances by well over a year, and spent his time well.
My husband, who had lost track of him until maybe five years ago but became his confidant through his battle, is deeply grateful for the time they were able to spend together, both on their phones and on several visits, after thirty-odd years of absence. He misses him. But their friendship is a treasure to him.
"According to the reported "terrorist" briefing that was held recently at Fort Liberty (formerly Ft Bragg), North Carolina, telltale signs of terrorist group involvement include pro-life license plates, or stickers on vehicles indicating approval of or membership in the National Right to Life organization or Operation Rescue."
Note to BUMBLE BEE, I'm doing remarkably well for a guy who blew out his liver six years ago :-)
My friend, on the other hand...
I spent a couple hours with him this afternoon. Vision failing - can no longer read. Can't regulate voice - whispering one minute, shouting the next. Can't remember how to make coffee. Can't operate his phone. All this is new in less than a week. Glioblastoma is extremely aggressive.
I managed to make him laugh a few times. Going back to see him, tonight.
I don't want to clutter this forum with depressing updates, so I won't be writing more about it, here. Again, I thank all of you for your concern and hopeful wishes.

Am I alone in hoping some day to see an article titled:
"Millions of Americans BEG Smarmy Heart Surgeon Dispensing Dietary Advice to STFU"?
May you live in interesting times...
It’s Eva Marie Saint day on TCM. She just turned 100. I really like her, although I never saw much of her way back in the 1950s.

RNC surrogate on Fox just now said Dems are arranging a golden parachute for Joe, Jill and Hunter.
'RNC surrogate on Fox just now said Dems are arranging a golden parachute for Joe, Jill and Hunter.'
This is their only real path.
Get a few hundred million pledged for a 'library' and Hunter and Jill will reluctantly let go.
Hunter will be pardoned, but Trump will go after the entire Biden family afterward, so prison is still not out of the question...
I enjoy the morning photos and hope you keep on doing them Ann.

@NKP -- I'm so sorry. What a shock to go from normal to "I'm fucked" so quickly. May you and your friend find some peace in this turmoil.

Humperdink, hire a falconer.
Emergency declared in Colorado after bird flu outbreak at egg facility
"1.78 million chickens will be killed after Gov. Jared Polis declares emergency"
Prepare for the next DemPanic.
Trump still too weird for ya?
Why do they always kill chickens so that they won’t die?

Check out where the money is earmarked for and you get an idea which states his campaign is worried about.

Humperdink, look at Gardener's Supply Co. for protective cages. I've had good success with them to keep the deer away from my tomato plants.

Joe Biden's racism on display.
Thanks for all the blueberry protection suggestions. I am going with the falconer. Ha.
Actually I'll check with Gardeners Supply.
