Amber Rose at the GOP convention.

Full text: here. The answer to your question who is Amber Rose: here

This is one of the speeches given while Trump sat to the right of the stage. Excerpts:
The first person I knew who supported Donald Trump was my father. I was shocked. My entire family is racially diverse. And I believed the left-wing propaganda that Donald Trump was a racist. My father said, no, he's not, Amber. What are you talking about? And when I insisted, he said, prove it. So to prove my father wrong, I did my research and looked into all things Donald Trump. People have to do their research. I watched all the rallies, and I started meeting so many of you, his red hat wearing supporters. I realized Donald Trump and his supporters don't care if you're black, white, gay, or straight. It's all love. And that's when it hit me. These are my people. This is where I belong. So I let go of my fear of judgment, of being misunderstood, of getting attacked by the left, and I put the red hat on, too.... I never felt more free and more love for my country than I do now. I want to thank my father, who's in the audience tonight, for opening my eyes....

Vance hated Trump at first too.

The theme is obvious. Love won vs. Hate.

Finishing up with Better under Trump.

Trump is not slowing down. And her speech was really good at least at 2x speed.

Normally I do not like a buzz cut on a woman. But on Amber Rose, not too bad.

I goggled when I saw her up there. I figured her for a run-of-the-mill anti-Trump celebrity - not a George Takei-level Trump hater but certainly one who would follow the standard model and dutifully express her disgust at Trump whenever asked by the proper media outlet.

But she came across as intelligent, sincere, thoughtful, and someone I'd love to chat with. (I don't have the tattoo aversion of - who is it, Begley?). Welcome to the big tent, Amber Rose!

The other speaker I loved was the Latina woman who copped to voting for Biden in 2020, looking around at the crowd with a sheepish grin, and then encouraged her Latino compatriots to wake up and smell the cafecito. She was great.

And my my, Sean O'Brien certainly took his opportunity and ran with it, didn't he? I was bemused and amused by turns - but I'll venture that simply his presence there, and the enthusiasm of the crowd (some of which had to be politeness to a guest who's more or less a stranger but voices his views at the table - I loved the comment by one of the news guys afterward about not expecting to see the president of the Teamsters haranguing the Chamber of Commerce at the RNC), will give some rank-and-file northeastern Teamsters cause to consider where to spend their votes.

For the brief two hours on ABC, NBC, CBS and Fox, Amber Rose and the Teamsters President Sean O'Brien were allowed to speak uninterrupted.

Other speakers weren't heard and there was just typical bullshit media pontification. Norah O'Donnell is hot, but OMG is she a propaganda mouthpiece.

I'd imagine it is agreed which speakers will air uninterrupted.

It must have driven the MSM crazy to air Amber Rose and Sean O'Brien.

She was saying it to make a point, John Henry - that Democrats considered her to be their property simply because of the skin colors and ethnicities of her family. And that she went skiing with it, believed their tales of Republican and especially Trump's racism, until her dad told her she was wrong.

And then, she said, she decided to do her research so she could prove him wrong... and discovered that he was right.

Zelensky has decided that Russia should be at the 2nd peace summit.

It is almost as if people see the writing on the wall.
———————
Trump is not yet even the official nominee. He’s not yet President-elect. But he IS our nation’s leader, our Shadow President. Yesterday morning he posted/commanded that Robert Kennedy Jr must receive full Secret Service protection. Hours later, former president, Joe Biden followed Trump’s order and Kennedy is now covered.

Quite the redemption theme happening this year at the RNC. Or for our secular friends, quite the "I've changed my mind about Trump after all" theme from the VP pick to certain speakers. Instead of judging Trump by his first term as described by the dishonest media, people now have four years of Biden to compare and contrast. That in itself has redeemed Trump's reputation for governance.

Maybe mean tweets weren't such a big deal in the overall landscape, huh?

RideSpaceMountain said...

Trump has dated not one, but two black women in the 80s, something the media works by omission to avoid reminding people of.

ColoComment said...

All of this speechifying and endorsing might be somewhat useful if we didn't have, y'know, actual demonstrations of what the policies of these two parties and presidents have done and can and will do.
We have 4-year, head-to-head, comparisons of decisions, actions, and related consequences (both seen and unseen, à la Bastiat) by which to judge and decide our vote in this election.

Given what has been thus demonstrated during their terms, in real life, which of these parties and presidents has brought more peace, prosperity, and economic well-being to our country, and the world?
...and which has contributed more rancor, obsessive obstruction, and social divisivenss?

Way to miss the point by a mile smart guy!

1. She wasn't giving you advice. She was telling her story. (Something tells me you didn't pay attention, just lobbed comment off.)
2. Everybody has a history. That you assume yourself superior means you aren't fit to speak at the convention like she did.
3. Jelly Roll not only sings his ass off he doles out excellent advice, which you of course would reject because of your stated prejudice.

Redemption ain't for everybody. As Jesus said, most will reject the message and it's easier for a poor fool to see the error of his ways than a wealthy wise man. Thank you for demonstrating that for us. She is the exception that proves the rule.

Think about building a political coalition.

Trump put both of them up there.

Ann like Amber.

The main problem coalition partners have is when they vie for supremacy within a political coalition without realizing it.

VAN JONES, CNN: "That was probably the most dangerous speech for the Democratic coalition. That is a young woman of color.

She's [Amber Rose] describing the experience a lot of people have, feeling that maybe if you're around too many liberals you might get criticized too much, or you might not be able to speak your mind. And she spoke to it really well. And she's way more famous than any of us up here. I'm going to tell you that. Way more famous. And so to the extent that these guys are trying to bust up our coalition, that was a bunker buster right there."

Have you seen the underlying theme yet?

Amber Rose, the Sean O'Brian, JD Vance.

All reformed from Never-Trump back in 2016. Maybe even 2020.

The assassination attempt has prompted others from Silicon Valley, etc. to come out publicly for Trump. Other leaners are likely stopping and thinking.

We are in a time of party realignment. And Trump is running a theme of re-thinking, look at original sources instead of the biased media (or professors) that could very well turn out a lot of voters.

John Henry finds people with racially diverse families not worth listening to.

Nope. Not what I said at all. I said people who pretend that this is the most important thing about themselves are not worth listening to.

I'm Puerto Rican. I'm in a diverse family ranging from African Black to blue eyed blond. That's if skin tone is the criteria.

If education is the criteria, from elementary school dropouts to doctorates. If politics is the criteria, not so diverse. Mostly so PDP aligned that even their blood is red. But a couple of Trump supporters besides me. Capitalists, socialists, fascists.

And that is just the 200 or so 1st cousins and closer!

So frickin what?

Some of them I listen to. Others, like one of my brothers in law, are mostly full of shit and I don't pay much attention. Nothing to do with diversity.

John Henry

Jamie said...

Though as I said elsewhere, I have been assured that Trump can't stand being crossed and will lock up if not kill anyone who has ever opposed him.

Darkisland said...

I get, as several people pointed out, that she was telling her story. I sort of half heard it as I sat there in the living room reading Master of the Senate while my wife watched CNN.

What I heard was not bad. She once was lost but then was found, was blind but now she sees, as the hymn says. I was not a big fan of Donald Trump in 2015 though he grew on me and I would have voted for him had I been able to. Didn't grow on me enough to send money, though. I have no problem with people who came late. I can perfectly understand Vance's position in 2016 about Nixon/Hitler. All we had were his promises and words and we should not have taken them any more seriously than those of any other politician.

I don't even have problem with people who still disagree about policy issues. I think they are wrong but that is what makes horse races.

But what the Hell diversity has to do with it, I have no idea.

I have been beaten about the head and shoulders with it since the 70s. I have a masters in HR where I studied a lot about it. I taught it for nearly 30 years. I still do not understand why diversity is worshipped as a good thing. It is a good thing, but down maybe 4-5 or 6 on the list if building an organization.

We saw the great god DIVERSITY!!! in action Saturday night. Instead of 300# 6' agents who could have carried PEDJT off stage by themselves without waiting for a stretcher while he bled out we had 5'6" women who probably could not have carried each other off the stage. At least one of them seemed somewhat flustered over by the limo.

Our president emeritus might have died with a slightly more serious wound. But at least the crew (non)protecting him was diverse. So there is that.

Fuck diversity. Go for quality, skill, ability, physical size and strength (in a bodyguard) and so on. If you wind up with 5 300# 6'6" males and a 300# 6'6" female, that is great. But if all you can do is a 5'6" 120# female, no matter how badass she may be, you are still a man shy of complement.

John Henry

Temujin said...

Achilles- you are right in the respect that I should not have sloughed off Amber Rose's story, which is- she was far left, living a curious life. Then she learned new facts, became aware of new data (new to her, not new to the world). But she learned from that and made a brave and needed change in her view.

John James has been an established business owner and operator. A grad of West Point, he served 8 years in the Army, including piloting an Apache helicopter in Operation Iraqi Freedom. Came back home. He got his Masters from Penn State (Supply Chain logistics), and an MBA from Michigan. He took up the family business, then created a family. He employs people, he knows what it takes to run and keep a business operating. He knows what it is to fight for his country- up close.

He ran for office from Michigan previously and lost. But he won a Congressional seat the last time out- finally. I've been watching this guy for a few years.

Now...both Amber Rose and John James should be embraced. But one is potential leader of men and women. The other is a potential podcast and influencer.

Yup. I was reading, not even paying attention. When he came on, he went straight to my brain. I put my kindle down and listened.

Was he there because he is diverse?

Or was he there because he is really, really, good?

I hope that latter is why he was there, because he was. But we can never know, can we?

And that is the real crime of this great god of diversity. No woman, black, puerto Rican, or other can ever know if they got where they are because they are good or because they were a diversity hire.

Some exceptions of course, Kamala Harris was explicitly and publicly a diversity hire. Brandon said he was going to pick a black woman for VP. He didn't pick her because she would be a great VP.

There is no reason a black woman could not be a great VP. Condi Rice is one example. But if Dubya had said he was choosing a black woman then picked her, she would rightly have been branded a diversity hire. No matter how good a job she did she could never know if she was really good enough.

That said, I do try to engage those on the other side on their arguments if I can. One of the great things about this commentariat, I think, is that we do have a loyal band of commenters from the Other Side - I moved to Texas some years ago and don't have as much access to the ideas and mindset of the left as I used to, so I really do want to hear from these folks, even though I almost always disagree with them.

But not always. We do find common ground here - in our host's photo posts, for instance.
