I read this article at Telegraph.co.uk and the whole time I'm thinking would this ever happen to...Althouse?

"I thought Bob Dylan had fallen in love with me – then he asked me for $5,000

When a lifelong Dylan fan contacted her idol, they hit it off – until he asked for money. From there, things got even stranger..."

You can read the story HERE

The article was kind of funny and it all ended okay but it might not have. I am surprised that anyone would think that Bob Dylan was hanging out online chatting with fans. We believe what we want to believe!

"An excerpt in the article on Kennedy’s campaign hit on the claim while discussing some oddities of the campaign.

“Several staffers fear the electromagnetic radiation from microwave ovens, complicating a volunteer potluck,” the story reads. “(People were advised to bring crockpots.)"

Yeah, he's been acting normal lately, but at his core he really is a nutter.

And little do the little abortion loving women there know, the men are your masters. YOU will not be allowed to be an individual. YOU will be hidden behind a burka, covered up at all times. YOU are dumber than a rock.

It’ll be interesting when the kids find out Muslims aren’t too keen on multiple genders, queer identities, dope, alcohol and promiscuous scantily dressed women 🤡

Words with Friends: The eccentric volunteers who helped make the OED

Old and slow said...

If you want to read more about the OED and how it was compiled, I highly recommend The Word Detective by John Simpson the former chief editor of the OED.

@Old and slow

Thanks.

I've already read the 2 Simon Winchester books. Is there really more to know?

Ann Althouse said...

From an Amazon reviewer: "The author gives us a clear story of the OED, his time there, numerous factoids about words, and the workings of how the OED came to be and is still progressing. But, in a 340-page manuscript he subjects us to a 12-page explanation of the 'F' word that is totally useless to this story. He then spends another twelve pages discussing male homosexuals (queen and gay) and their disease (AIDS). Of all the hundreds of thousands of words in the OED surely there were more interesting examples, but maybe inclusion guaranteed publication. I do not know, but it warrants just 2-stars for my review."

Had I read that 2 star Amazon review, I would have been inclined to give the book a miss. I'm glad that I did not, because I quite enjoyed it.

I generally enjoy Winchester's books.

Just finished Sides' book about Captain Cook, and recommend it highly.

(Haven't looked at Amazon's ratings.)

The 5:51 photo could have been taken by Van Gogh, if he had a smartphone.

I like the textures in the last photo. And the fact that the state capital dome isn't intruding.
