The nothing that happened.

ADDED: I suspect that the person who posted the video actually wanted to show that the protesters were not accosting those they identified as Jews. In that light, here's a NYT article: "A Night Different From Others as Campus Protests Break for Seder/Pro-Palestinian protesters, many of whom are Jewish, prepared Seder dinners at college protest encampments, even as other Jewish students sought community in more traditional settings":
As evening fell over Columbia’s tent encampment on Monday, about 100 students and faculty gathered in a circle around a blue tarp heaped with boxes of matzo and food they had prepared in a kosher kitchen. Some students wore kaffiyehs, the traditional Palestinian scarf, while others wore Jewish skullcaps. They distributed handmade Haggadahs — prayer books for the Passover holiday — and read prayers in Hebrew, keeping to the traditional order.
But there were also changes and additions, like a watermelon on the Seder plate to represent the flag of Palestine. There were repeated references to the suffering of the Palestinian people and the need to ensure their liberation. There was grape juice instead of wine to respect the alcohol-free encampment, which was started last Wednesday and, despite a police crackdown last week, was stretching into its sixth day....
Toward the end of the Seder, students draped their arms across each other’s shoulders and swayed, singing, “If we build this world from love, then God will build this world from love.”

I'm glad she wasn't assaulted. Other Yale students haven't been so lucky.

I wonder if Daniel's comment was before or after the Jewish student got stabbed in the eye.

Those moron comp lit protesters probably thought she was ironically deconstructing Judiasm.

"Your provocation failed."

What's her "provocation?" Existing as a Jewish prison in an Ivy league campus?

If Jewish politicians want to stop leftie anti-semitism, they need to switch parties. That’s the only move that will have influence with Democrat leaders. There’s twice the number of Jews as Muslims in the US. They need to make their voices heard by taking concrete action now.

Why do you think this video was put up?

What's more likely?

1. The poster thought the woman was being harassed and threatened and wanted us to see the problem and how brave she was.

2. The poster wanted to show that the problem you've been reading about in the press really isn't there or isn't as bad as the media portrays it.

Coincidentally enough, I'm reading In the Garden of the Beasts right now, the story of the American Ambassador in Berlin during Hitler's rise before WWII. I'm in early days, the persecution of the Jews is coming to full throttle now, and ironically enough, I'm reading about the propaganda success of the Third Reich in ensuring they had plenty of examples to point to, similar to this one, in order to ensure they could explain away the violence and reassure all the world's dupes that things were perfectly normal - all while they were beating the crap out of Jews, stealing their businesses, eliminating their employment opportunities, and putting them into camps.

Full circle, eh? I see there's no shortage of either anti-Semites, propagandists, or dupes.

Universities and other institutions should ban masks. Peace officers should unmask and photograph all violators.
They’re proud of what they’re doing, right?

Obviously, I think the answer is #2.

In that light, "Your provocation failed" contains an unexamined premise. What did the woman want to do, provoke or assist the protesters?

In the background, at one point, we see a "Jews for Palestine" banner. The woman and the videographer could be in league with those people.

Rob C: "I wonder if Daniel's comment was before or after the Jewish student got stabbed in the eye."

As any New Soviet Democratical/LLR-democratical will tell you about their islamic supremacist pro-terrorist political allies, that was a "mostly peaceful" stabbing, so it doesn't count.

It would be best if you stopped lobbing in random terms for which you clearly have zero understanding.

These demonstrators/Hitler Youth should be given one warning to disperse and take their latest fetish off-campus… any further displays or criminal acts will be met by suspension and then expulsion.

"The most surprising part about this is that you uploaded it. Nothing happened. Nobody even reacted. Your provocation failed. This demonstrates that you are not unsafe among supporters of Palestinian liberation." — Daniel Baryon

I put the point where Daniel Bayron demonstrated his mid 90's IQ and the fact that he is a Nazi piece of shit to the world.

He is typical of your average Democrat. They somehow do not realize they are acting exactly like the NAZI party in 1938.

Arresting and jailing political opponents.

Government Corporate collusion to censor opposition parties.

An obvious party sponsored Reichstag fire/J6 complete with media blood libels and SS/FBI persecution.

Party leaders actively fomenting violence and massive property damage.

And now roving hoards of Brown Shirts running around attacking Jews.

Good job Democrats. Everyone sees just how despicable you are. The 1938 is near enough in history that we can see where we will end up in a couple years if you remain in power.

Hopefully you resist being removed from power.

I would love to see the People of the United States prove we are better than Germany.

You see, now this is fun!

The first tell was this girl obviously knew she was safe. Watch how everyone looks and goes about their business. No second looks. No surprise.

The second tell was the resting bitch face.

That is what being a female in the democrat party is like. You are fed a line of shit about how awesome you are and how much everyone else sucks. This fills you with hatred and despair because deep down you know it sucks to be you and you are going to be 40 with 2 kids and no father then 60 with nobody around but your cats because you raised 2 kids without a father and they both hate you and the world just like you hated your father and the world.

A century of Fatah, Hamas et al seeking liberation through organized genocidal conviction, commission. Forward and downward.

The people living in the variably incorporated territories of the Palestine mandate in the wake of the Ottoman empire, and subsequent British imperial divestment, remind me of the victins from the progressive war between Venus, Mars, and Uranus, with Earth trapped in their consensus.

The President of yale is a Jew. The jews make up 20 percent of the Students. The number in the faculty and administration is over 35 percent.

So, I don't think running around with the letters JEW on your shirt at Yale show you are brave.

BTW, I'd suggest this woman, if she ever goes to South Dakota, get a shirt emblazoned with "One of the Chosen people" - she'll get a warm welcome. Maybe, even a few in The Governors office will fall on their knees and worship her.

I am pretty sure the crowd either thought she and her husband were Jews supporting the Palestinian cause, or she just wasn't noticed- I note that they picked a spot well away from the crowd- with only a couple of people within even 30 feet. If she really wanted to test it out, she should have brought a bullhorn and spoke up in support of Israel- or carried a large sign.

Yancey Ward said...

There is option, 3, Althouse- the crowd itself was a participant in this video to convince you of #2.

Is that the same as being safe? No, in usage, not being unsafe is a lower degree of safety than being safe, even though they are defined to be equivalent.

There are lots of places I would go to at high noon that I wouldn't want to explore at midnight. It's definitely an uncomfortable and possibly unsafe space for Jews. It's not so bad as that music festival in Israel though......Are the students more interested in demonstrating against Israel or in learning about their majors?....I don't suppose any of them are actually paying for their educations, but if I were shelling out ninety grand p.a. to complete my education I'd be annoyed at this detour.....Rant about associated topic The end of the Vietnam conflict precipitated quite a lot of ethnic cleansing. The Chinese who had lived in Vietnam for centuries and had the bad luck to be better at business than the Vietnamese had their property confiscated and were forced to leave their homes. So far as I remember this bit of bigotry never attracted any demonstrations or sympathy from the left. This ethnic cleansing happened after the Palestinians and was executed with more brutality.....Some victims are anointed Victims and can never lose their Victim status. The Palestinians, like the Vietnamese, have been granted Full Anointed Victim status, and it will take years for them to lose that status at least among leftists.

The demonstrators are not risking anything, at least so far. It’s akin to a tantrum in your own home, where you can take a break from tantrumming to sleep, pee and eat. Time for the parents, the administration, to force the demonstrators out of the house, off campus, where life will be much less cushy. Let’s see how deeply they believe in what they’re saying. And let’s see how the city admin reacts.

I think the answer is #2 as well. Other protesters have hurt Jews, but I think the performance art requires no blood spilled, since it may cause the protesters blood to be spilled as well.

Tina Trent said...

The last protest weekend I attended, they had plenty of anti-Israel Jews, or so they claimed. They even had a Seder, but I missed it.

There are a lot of pro-Gaza Jews, but some are pretending. I did talk to two college kids there who were wearing Kippah and didn't seem to really be Jewish. They kept messing with their Kippah, arranging the hairpins, which I've never seen an adult Jewish man do -- they're used to them after wearing them every day. So I asked them a few questions, friendly -- where did they go to temple, were they uncomfortable wearing Yarmulke in that crowd, or were those Kippah (a fake question).

Those little assholes were as Jewish as my blessed Aunt Mary.

It's broad daylight, she's got someone filming her, and she's standing right next to a "Jews for Palestine" banner.

Also, a frequent pattern in these things is that there's a peaceful main protest and a rowdy satellite protest. If she shows up after dark at the part of the protest where people are making noise, she might have a very different experience.

mikee said...

That the protesters did not use a suicide vest on one of their members to bomb civilians this one time does very little to overcome their history of bombing civilians with suicide vests.

Every pro-Palestine protest is a potential attempt at martyrdom seeking genocide.
