"... cranking out memorable wisecracks, heartfelt moments and cringe-worthy gaffes in equal measure. He has
needled his Republican rival, former President Donald J. Trump, with increasing frequency,
presented his softer side on talk radio and repeatedly spun tall tales about
driving an 18-wheeler truck, being
arrested at a civil rights rally and having an uncle who
might have been eaten by cannibals. In one memorable episode this week, Mr. Biden read aloud his teleprompter instructions, asking a crowd to imagine what he could do with 'four more years … pause.' The annual White House Correspondents’ Association dinner on Saturday night could be another opportunity for Mr. Biden to be in the moment, in what might be the perfect setting for him to continue roasting Mr. Trump.... And on Friday, Mr. Biden made a surprise visit to 'The Howard Stern Show'...
showing an emotionally vulnerable side to Mr. Stern’s large audience of middle-class Americans...."
Writes Chris Cameron, in the NYT.
It's a puff piece. What can you say? I'll just say I wouldn't have written "continue roasting Mr. Trump" so close to "eaten by cannibals."
Also: If you'd asked me what kind of people listen to Howard Stern, I wouldn't have thought of saying
middle-class Americans. From
yesterday's NYT article about Biden's Howard Stern interview: "Mr. Stern’s listeners are mostly white, mostly male and mostly comfortably middle class, according to figures shared by the Howard Stern Radio Network...." "Middle class" looked odd to me, perhaps mostly because it floated free of those other 2 characteristics: white and male.

I recall no wisecracks or heartfelt moments. He is lying a lot however, yes.
I wonder how juiced up Biden will be for the Dinner. That's past his bedtime.
"rowdy"
The new word for angry hyperpartisan.
Joe's gonna need a shower after that tongue bath.
People’s opinions of Biden & Trump are fixed.
The NY Times duty is to placate its Wealthy White Audience
Howard Stern is hilarious to me. The guy gets famous off of cracking wise to blue collar white dudes only to become a pilpuling germophobic deepstate stooge. What a fucking demotion. It didn't even need to happen. Stop dancing around the weenie Howard and make fun of yourself and your people. It's ok. That's real intersectionality. Not the herd's "hate what we hate" bullshit.
Some of your shit was halfway funny. Pathetic.
"repeatedly spun tall tales about driving an 18-wheeler truck, being arrested at a civil rights rally and having an uncle who might have been eaten by cannibals"
He has always been this loose with the truth and comfortable lying. What's new?
The amazing-not-amazing thing is that after all these years of Joe making things up, going back decades, prog reporters still cover for him. But give them credit: they have their priorities straight and keep their eyes on the prize.
Dementia will make a person “looser” and “more comfortable.”
This is such garbage. Anyone with eyes and ears can see that Biden is well past his prime. Not that he ever had a prime to begin with, but videos from just a few years ago show that he was much more articulate and lucid. He is getting progressively worse, and it’s only downhill from here. The media’s protection of him is truly reprehensible.
Meanwhile, Trump grabs a handrail, and it’s a one week news story.
That wasn't a puff piece, it was a tongue bath.
I don’t care what u say, the guy is a fucking vegetable. You are rumpswab to a veggie anonymous NYT doosh Ann finds interesting enough to blog about. That’s who you y’all are…
Thank God NYT punches holes in the paywall in election years…
So now we're back to Crazy Uncle Joe the frat boy prankster, loosey-goosey and lovin' life.
They cycle around to this every once so often, usually when things get embarrassingly real, or real embarrassing, as if they're re-booting what they wish our memory of Joe would be, and hoping they can wish it so.
That's the modern Legacy Main Stream Media for you. If something awkward comes along, first they'll try to get it censored and removed from the record, through stealth edits - Like changing the transcript last week that revealed Joe reading both the teleprompter script and the cues ('Four More Years (Pause)!') Said it clear as a bell - but on the transcript it's now Four More Years .
But if the BORG can't get it censored, time for a re-boot - Okay Sid, tell the NYT to roll out the Joe, version 2008 from the Obama campaign...
There goes the New York Times, roasting Joe Biden again. When will they give him his due?
Has the media ever called Trump's "lies" tall tales?
The WH demanded better coverage of Biden from the NYT and they delivered. They make a better dog than Commander.
Howard Stern used to be funny. Now, he's an old AWFL.
Pretty sure we're close to a Times' photo of Joe at the heavy bag.
If you'd asked me what kind of people listen to Howard Stern, I wouldn't have thought of saying middle-class Americans.
@Althouse, if you are trying to suggest that perhaps the Times doesn’t understand the American middle class very well (or at all), I don’t think you’re wrong.
… and repeatedly spun tall tales about driving an 18-wheeler truck, being arrested at a civil rights rally and having an uncle who might have been eaten by cannibals.
So this guy Biden lies as an automatic reflex — Cameron tries to convince us proles that we are too stupid to understand that it’s all meant humorously. We are just too dense, too partisan, to laugh along.
Another fine act of fellatio by an NYTimes writer. Even gave Biden a gentle squeeze of the balls.
presented his softer side on talk radio and repeatedly spun tall tales about driving an 18-wheeler truck, being arrested at a civil rights rally and having an uncle who might have been eaten by cannibals..
The NYT's sure likes it, when resident Biden plays fast and loose with the truth.. Don't They?
They'll like This! NY Post: President Biden forgets date of Jan. 6 Capitol riots at glitzy fundraiser hosted by Michael Douglas
“We’ll certainly never forget the dark days of June 6, January 6th, excuse me,”
Imagine a NYT piece showing equal appreciation for Trump's humor.
Anyway, if the point is to elect the better comedian, it's obviously Trump.
I'm surprised that I had not seen the news that the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner is tonight.
Maybe they kept it on the down-low for some reason.
But I'm pretty sure that Afroman blew his chance for an invitation.*
*You'll see it, eventually.
I’m so old I remember when the Biden Administration was upset the NYT wasn’t being deferential enough.
repeatedly spun tall tales
With Trump these are called LIES!!!!
"Rowdy" SOTU? Disgraceful is more like it--but then I don't write for the NYT and am not iterested in toadying in praise of senescent old geezer.
In the words of a true progressive woman, "I love Beiden, he doesn't make me laugh."
If you want to work a good hate-on then the WHCA dinner pregame is on C-SPAN. They're in their tuxes and party dresses and the glitter is out and they're currently being served entrees on silver platters. The protesters are playing dead in the street.
Enjoy.
It's enough to make a guy want to shed his culottes.
From the article, this is an example of his softer side, which is a verifiable lie:
“He talked about meeting his second wife, Jill Biden, on a blind date.”
Given this lie, the whole article can be dismissed as false. Falsus in uno, falsus in omnibus.
"A looser, more comfortable version of himself"
The only thing the coloreds are looking for in life,” Butz quipped, “are tight pussy, loose shoes, and a warm place to shit.
Joe "Bribe me!" Biden is the Panderer in Chief. He creates lies to ingratiate himself to whomever he's speaking to. He's the most diverse president we've ever had
He's grown up in so many traditions we can't keep track of them. The cannibal line was just the latest example of his degenerate behavior.
Dementia and morality:
Maurice Blanchot on Holderin (The Space of Literature, p.176)
"When madness had completely obscured Holderin's mind, his poetry too reversed itself. All the toughness, all the concentration there had been, and the almost unbearable tension in his last hymns became repose, tranquility, and appeased power. Why? We do not know ... And when we read these words gleaming with madness : "Would I like to be a comet? Yes. For they have the speed of birds, they flourish in fire and are as children in purity," we sense how the desire to be united with the fire and with the light of day may have been realized for the poet in the purity which his exemplary rectitude assured him..."
Rectitude's influence on the sort of dementia you get when the time comes might apply to Biden.
biden never drove an 18 wheeler.
I'm impressed that Cameron can type while his head is in Biden's lap.
Imagine a NYT piece showing equal appreciation for Trump's humor.
Imagine a NYT piece that drew a distinction between Trump's humor and Biden's... whatever all this is.
Because - if you haven't watched the video, WATCH IT - "Four more years... pause," whatever it was, was not a "memorable wisecrack." Cringeworthy gaffe - sure, I'll give it that, as it certainly was inadvertent and embarrassing. But then there was the "Mr. Biden, do you think the US should raise steel tariffs" or whatever the question was at the convenience/fast food place, to which his - what, joke? - response was, "[long silence with Mafia eyes] Don't jump."
Was that a "memorable wisecrack"?
Gadfly, a nation turns its lonely eyes to you.
@rhhardin 20:32 - I can still remember Jane Curtin having a field day with Earl Butz's quote on SNL 'Weekend Update'. It was hysterical.
He does represent the US of A in it's dotage quite well.
Another example of hard-hitting journalism, which afflicts the comfortable and comforts the afflicted. Bravo!
I'm impressed that Cameron can type while his head is in Biden's lap.
@JaimeRoberto, and he has his head up his own ass at the same time. Quite the feat of dexterity!
And Yuri Andropov loved jazz just as much as George H.W. Bush loved country music.
Howard Stern in blackface dropping N-bombs is ok because he is voting for Joe Biden and #OrangeManBad.
