"I wouldn’t trust her farther than I can spit. She’ll say whatever..."

"... she’ll say something to you, and something else to you, in the same day — if she thinks it’s going to help her, whether it be money, whether it be fame or power."

Said Ellen Doughty, about Stormy Daniels, quoted in "The horse wars of Stormy Daniels/As she tangles with a former president, the adult-film actress also plays a starring role in a drama that has rocked the world of competitive English riding" (WaPo)(long article, free access link).

Before Stormy Daniels came forward to attack Donald Trump, she attacked Ellen Doughty. Doughty is suing Daniels for defamation after Daniels accused Doughty, a horse trainer, of mistreating horses.
An Eventing Association official privately expressed misgivings about Daniels’s truthfulness, according to emails that have come to light through the lawsuit. And a government animal-control inspector who investigated Doughty’s facility at the height of the conflict in response to repeated phone calls from tipsters — at least one of whom used a false name — determined that the facility was “clean” and “beautiful” and that the “accusations are unfounded.”...

The criminal case against Trump that is going to trial this month depends on Daniels's credibility.

We're reminded that Daniels "owes the former president nearly $440,000 in attorney’s fees — not including interest — for unsuccessful defamation lawsuits." Do you remember those lawsuits? They "were filed by Daniels’s former lawyer, Michael Avenatti, who is now in prison for embezzling money from her and other clients."

Is the current criminal case something Daniels wants? She's quoted saying: "I don’t even like politics. I just want to be at home. I don’t want to wear makeup, or put on pants that aren’t riding pants. I want to ride my horse. I want to play with my daughter."

Obviously, she doesn't want the horse case, but did she lie about Doughty? I'm slogging through this long Washington Post story weighed down by suspicion that WaPo is bent on helping the prosecution in the criminal case against Trump. It knows this horse case will come out as Daniels's credibility is attacked, and perhaps the idea here is to pre-rehabilitate her. But nothing here seems to help.

[A]mong horsefolk, [Daniels] never mentioned such an intimate encounter [with Trump], and [she] spoke positively about Trump, Doughty said.

“She kept saying, like, ‘I know Donald personally and he’s a gentleman,’” recalled Doughty, who said she doesn’t follow politics closely but voted for Trump in 2016 and 2020....

Trump has a signed letter from Daniels where she denied ever having sex with Trump.

Apparently the rumor is that it was Cohen who had the affair and it was after Trump was elected that Daniels and Cohen started collaborating in an effort to blackmail Trump.

This is all speculation. What I find interesting is how willing people like Ann and the Nevertrumps are to ignore all evidence in this case and believe the worst about Trump while simultaneously claiming that the 2020 election was legitimate against all available evidence merely because the regime that was caught red handed fabricating the Russian collusion hoax to spy on its political opponents and pull a coup says so.

It's so hard to keep these cases straight. Is this the "hush money" case where corrupt prosecutors are trying to pretend that there is something nefarious about a non-disclosure agreement by using scary terms like "hush money" to describe it?

Who knows what Daniels' deal is? She may have been manipulated by Avanetti. Lord knows most of the media went gaga over his bullshit, why shouldn't she? I can believe she just wants to be left alone, but after years of being used as a pawn by powerful people, she's not smart enough to keep herself out of trouble.

So you believe Trump?

You believe Trump had sex or “something happened” with Carrol.

Tangentially you said Christine Blasey Ford was credible.

At that point objectivity is out the window. Even now you are defensive. Are you really trying to say you don’t think that Trump is lying?

You Trumpers ignore the fact that no one disputes (well, you might, because you are willfully ignorant) that Stormy Daniels received $130 K from Cohen. If Trump had paid it out of his personal funds, it would probably not have been illegal. But he tried to write it off as a business expense and may or may not have used campaign contributions. So his cheapness is coming back to bite him in the ass.

Mr Wibble said...

To me, the simplest explanation of this whole mess is that Avanetti was a scumbag lawyer used to shaking down targets for a payday. When Stormy Daniels mentioned that she had met Trump, he got the idea to shop around the story about an affair. Only they screwed up because she took the offered payout to shut up, and then they tried to violate the NDA.

Over the course of his life, mostly before marriage, a man will have a certain finite number of encounters with women of various kinds. It's considered bad form for one tomcat to criticize another tomcat over his taste in women, and while Trump and I do not have the same taste, it is his and it's also the same taste that snags a guy like Donald a woman like Melania.

...but conversely it also puts him in proximity to the Stormy Daniels and E. Jean Carrolls of the world. Every man has his Stormy Daniels in the same way most women have that one dude they regret getting intimate with.

Donald Trump is a man of extremes. It makes sense that his Stormy Daniels is vile supergrade nuclear effluvium.

Where does a Stormy Daniels credibility issue enter into this case? Her part of the case is a documents case with canceled checks and release agreements in favor of a Trump-pseudonym. With Stephanie Clifford (her real name) and Michael Cohen, I think that they are nice witnesses because they tell the story, in a cogent and listenable way, and just about everything that they attest to that is an element of the case will be supported by other evidence and witnesses. Their respective personal credibility issues can be easily dealt with in that fashion. It could get even better than anyone knows, if there is some good stuff that was extracted from Hope Hicks' phone, or Don Jr.'s text messages, etc.

What I especially like about Ms. Clifford is that she may be able to testify that Trump has a small penis, or that she saw soiled adult diapers in his hotel bathroom, or that he smells terrible. That would be fantastic. Otherwise her basic testimony should be pretty basic.

I am presuming that the Air Force One video -- of Trump denying to reporters that he had any knowledge of payment(s) to Ms. Clifford -- will be admissible. And Trump's lie has to be the biggest lie by anyone involved in the case.

Althouse said she believed Trump had sex with Carroll? I read her posts at the time. She's a law professor. She pointed out the strengths of Carroll's case, which any good defense lawyer ought to do prior to figuring out how to defeat those arguments. Pointing such things out isn't the same with agreeing to them.

What I find interesting is her simply pointing out those strengths was enough to make you think she agreed with them. That is actually more telling about you. You were persuaded by those arguments despite your claim not to believe them. At that point objectivity is out the window.

What I find interesting is the lengths that tRump Swabs will go to defend their Lord and Savior.

1. Is the case against Trump BS? Absolutely. Hopefully NY appeals courts aren’t as hack rich as Manhattan courts.

2. Did Trump have sex with Stormy Daniels. Occam’s razor says yes. Trump is a dog who cheats on his wives. It is who he is.

3. If Stormy testifies this could get entertaining real fast. She could humiliate Trump. I doubt Trump testifies because not only is he a compulsive adulterer, he is also a compulsive liar and it would be real easy to see scenario where he unnecessarily perjures himself.

Regardless of the evidence presented in court, the court of public opinion is taking sides and predicting the outcome. It's the scourge of money and celebrity. A misquote, or perceived intention is more important than an accurate assessment of an event, which leads to a gathering of powerful attorneys looking for a boon of free advertisement. To add insult to injury, the media frenzy allows plenty of photo-ops and face time for media personalities that are more concerned with their image than justice.

Except Trump never paid any money to Stormy Daniels.

The only claim they have is that Trump gave Cohen money and Cohen paid Daniels.

The main problem with all of their stories is Cohen and Daniels have both signed letters and testified under oath saying the opposite. Until they started working for Avenetti that is.

Avenetti who is in jail for fraud.

It is really shocking how depraved and dishonest someone like Chuck can be. It makes me happy to watch the enemies of Trump act this way. They do so much to undermine the regime every day by coming here and acting like this.

This comes out 2 days after our once and future president releases a letter from Daniels saying she never had sex with him.

Not the first time she has denied it. Not even the 4th or 5th time including at least once under oath.

I am sure the timing is pure coincidence. They are not trying to cast shade on Daniel's letter. It's just how the timing worked out.

For most of life's lessons we can go to Seinfeld. But sometimes he is not enough and we have to haul out the big guns:

“I have some friends who know this, but you are the first person to whom I am confiding it against my own rules: I have never slept with any of those women. I have never touched one of them.”

[SNIP]

“If you care to glance over those front pages, you’ll see that I’ve never said anything. It was the women who were eager to rush into print with stories insinuating that being seen with me at a restaurant was the sign of a great romance. What do you suppose those women are after but the same thing as the chaser—the desire to gain their own value from the number and fame of the men they conquer? Only it’s one step phonier, because the value they seek is not even in the actual fact, but in the impression on and the envy of other women. Well, I gave those bitches what they wanted—but what they literally wanted, without the pretense that they expected, the pretense that hides from them the nature of their wish. Do you think they wanted to sleep with me or with any man? They wouldn’t be capable of so real and honest a desire. They wanted food for their vanity—and I gave it to them. I gave them the chance to boast to their friends and to see themselves in the scandal sheets in the roles of great seductress.

We all know Trump traded in his wives like cars, upgrading to a newer model. Ivanka to Marla Maples to Melania. But Melania is like a well kept red 1963 Corvette. No reason to trade that in. Also, Trump is older...

Trump has been quoted as saying, "There's nothing in the world like first rate pussy." He probably said that. It sounds plausible because...let's face it men... it's true.

But if you compare the Trump philandering with Bill Clinton philandering they're not the same behavior. Bill Clinton trolled trailer parks (Paula Jones) and subordinates (Monica Lewinsky). Clinton being Epstein's #1 client is just insane. Playmate of the year Karen McDougal is not the same as some trafficked 16-year old groomed to service the former President.

I can't compare Trump or Clinton to JFK. JFK was in a league of his own.

Over a period of eons, people have learned to distrust the integrity of sex workers. It's just not a profession that puts a premium on integrity and, to some extent, honesty is an impediment to professional success.....I don't think Trump should be held criminally liable, but this doesn't make him look good. He did, after all, employ Michael Cohen and did perhaps seek out the company of Stormy Daniels. That's on him. Give JFK credit. Of all our many horn dog Presidents he had the best taste, and it's worth noting that none of his many lovers have ever come forward with their reminiscences.....As noted, this doesn't make Trump look good, but it makes the people prosecuting him for this look worse. And the fact remains, he's a better choice for President than Biden. The Trump haters are more like a cult than the Trump lovers. My "love" for Trump is conditional and limited. Trump hate is unconditional, obsessive, and unlimited.

People who do porn for a living have issues. Those issues vary, but finding someone "normal" in the porn industry is an exercise in futility. The trick is to figure out what exactly is wrong. How to handle someone who has problems from extensive sexual abuse as a child is a lot different than a drug addict desperate for cash, and both of those are a lot less of a problem than the psychopaths, the sociopaths, and the sexual predators who thrive in these sort of environments.

That is because you are truly stupid.

Cohen claims Trump gave him money to give to Daniels.

Trump paid Cohen $420,000. Cohen paid Daniels 130,000. From any direction this looks like a shakedown.

Cohen went on to plead guilty to things that weren't even crimes so he wouldn't be prosecuted for several other fraud allegations for which he was facing a lot more jail time than he actually served. Most of the jail time he served was house arrest. Almost as if he made a deal with corrupt New York prosecutors.
