"This year’s peace prize also recognizes the hundreds of thousands of people who, in the preceding year, have demonstrated against Iran’s theocratic regime’s policies of discrimination and oppression targeting women."

"The motto adopted by the demonstrators — 'Woman, Life, Freedom' — suitably expresses the dedication and work of Narges Mohammadi."
Over the past 30 years, Iran’s government has penalized her over and over for her activism and her writing.... The last time Ms. Mohammadi heard the voices of her 16-year-old twins, Ali and Kiana, was over a year ago. The last time she held her son and daughter in her arms was eight years ago. Her husband, Taghi Rahmani, 63, also a writer and prominent activist who was jailed for 14 years in Iran, lives in exile in France with the twins....

“I sit in front of the window every day, stare at the greenery and dream of a free Iran,” Ms. Mohammadi said in a rare and unauthorized telephone interview from inside Evin in April. “The more they punish me, the more they take away from me, the more determined I become to fight until we achieve democracy and freedom and nothing less.”

Excellent choice.

Especially in light of the fact that Iran is running a spy ring in the US and we just gave them billions.

That is someone who is "giving voice to the unsayable."

Biden will celebrate this achievement by giving her jailers $6 billion.

I’m old enough to remember when Obama won the prize for doing literally nothing. It was shocking.

Better than giving it to Biden.

You're not alone. The Nobel has been tarnished eternally. For me it always will be.

Reads like a worthy candidate - finally.

So when are they going to cancel O's for trying to accommodate her oppressors?

This is the same peace prize awarded to Obama?

And we should pay any attention to it at all?

Not knocking the woman who won it. Perhaps she has done some good beyong "raising consciousness" (tm)

Just mocking the prize.

When does Donald Trump get the peace prize? His Abrahamic Accords ended (so far) 5000 years of conflict between jews and arabs.

Seems like that would be deserving of the Peace Prize. Especially because he accomplished something beyond talk.

Lyle, true but to paraphrase our hostess

"better than giving it to Biden is a very low standard."

I am sure the Iranian government will show her more respect now that she is a Nobel laureate. They are oh so eager to accommodate Western sensibilities.

The question should be asked: Why didn't Biden include her in the last ransom deal?

...somebody among millions who actually qualifies for asylum?

I cannot understand anyone who supports Iran, either through speech or by giving them money.

"I'll give you money." Biden said to the regime that supports throwing acid in women's faces and gays off roofs.

Where does the cash part of the Nobel go when the recipient is thus occupied, and presumably unable to accept it by direct deposit, check, or wire transfer?

@rrsafety, Norwegians being Norwegian and all that, they probably thought it was cool to give the Peace Prize to someone who personally picked out drone targets to kill with Hellfire missiles.

She sounds incredibly brave. I'm glad she got this prominent recognition of her courage and integrity. It's easy to do the right thing when it doesn't cost you anything. God bless her.

I hope this award embarrasses and shames the mullahs or at least gives them enough of a headache they decide to let her go be with her family. Unfortunately, it seems our fearless leaders have been accepting bribes from these evil donkeys in exchange for helping them.

Nobel Peace Prize to "Narges Mohammadi, Jailed Iranian Activist, Is 2023 Laureate The activist, who is serving a 10-year sentence in Tehran, was honored 'for her fight against the oppression of women in Iran'."

That's nice. I'm sure that she is a good person doing important work. (Well, hell, if it's about women it fulfills the fundamental criterion for good and important, right?) And she's in prison in Iran! And Iran is bad.

But...but, is the Nobel Peace Prize ever going to be about, you know, peace again?

Ethnic Spring... and residuals (e.g. Iran-ISIS Affair). Disastrous withrawal from Iraq. Criminal withdrawal from Afghanistan... forget the women and girls. CAIR forced by social justice activism. Migration for labor arbitrage and DEI gerrymandering. Peace through progress.

I am surprised that this rise award was done after the 6 billion that Beiden forked over, the recent Iranian satellite insertion (ICBM test), and the disclosure of Iranian spies imbedded in the Pentagon. Is this a message? We definitely need to quit having foreign policy be dictated by the need of US politicians for corrupt money.

We need a hard stop to our wars and payoffs to other countries until a public accounting is made of who in the government is getting rich off the bribes. Ha Ha of course that will happen.
