"House Republicans on Friday nominated Representative Jim Jordan of Ohio, the hard-right chairman of the Judiciary Committee, to be their next speaker..."

"... but quickly postponed a floor vote to elect him as scores of their members refused to commit to backing him.... After a week of turmoil and disarray, Republicans sent their members home for the weekend late Friday afternoon with no resolution and no sense of when the feuding might end...."

Kick ass. Let's get rid of these Paul Ryan speakers while we can. Jordon is a truth telling ass kicker.

I think I enjoy that the GOPe hates the majority of its "base".

"hard-right"

Such bullshit.

"Hard Right". From my perspective, over the past 25-30 years both parties have moved to the left, Republicans a moderate amount, and Democrats bigly. Donald Trump's policies look an awful lot like a centrist, anti-NAFTA Democrat from the 90's.

At this point I really don't care anymore who it is so long as they shut down any and all further federal government business and bills until the 24 election is decided.

I am fucking done with DC. I want the federal government hobbled and I want the spending of our money shut the fuck down even if it's for 12 months instead of permanently. Our tax dollars could use a vacation, and that vacation doesn't include Ukraine as a stop.

Does a description "hard-right chairman" translate as the counter to "Pol Pot Lefties"? If so, this is great news.

Just reading the few words in the NYT "tease" about the FAR RIGHT Jordan, etc. I sensed my neurons rapidly being agglutinated. I became as Alex in Clockwork Orange, strapped to a chair, eyes held open and being forced to look at the garbage that passes for political analysis today. But I still enjoy listening to Beethoven.

Matt Gaetz, Nancy Mace, and the rest of the Evil Eight have sure made themselves popular with the rest of the Republican Caucus. They pushed out McCarthy thinking they’d get Scalise or Jordan. Oops.

Is it possible to renominate Kevin after the Speakership has been vacated? Though I can’t imagine he’d want the job back without some serious concessions from the Freedom Caucus, starting with stripping the seniority from Gaetz, Mace, et. al.

Find the winner of that large Powerball jackpot and nominate him/her. With luck like that, success is almost guaranteed. And a random person from northern California would likely be much less upgefucht compared to any nominee so far.

Hard right is good. Hard right is pro-civilization, anti-corruption, pro-freedom, not ideological or utopian. Hard right is rational, red-pilled, alive and awake. Go Congressman Jordan! Rock your hard rightness.

boatbuilder said...

So where are all the "moderate, reasonable" McCarthy backers who were bashing Gaetz and his group, and telling him and us that he was a traitor and an agent of chaos, that the Dems will control forever if the Republicans don't unite, and that they in particular needed support a Republican speaker, for the good of the country, even when that speaker reneged on the "deal" he had made?

Are they urging support for Jordan, or heading home for the weekend?

Amen, Meade!

This is what democracy looks like.

Which Democrat reps does the NYT typically describe as being "hard-left"?

I'd say "I'll wait..." but everybody knows the answer already.

Bunch of clowns having a clown show. And the Know Nothings will be the first to complain when their Social security checks are 10 minutes late.

Brennan: Do the past allegations of Jim Jordan that he turned a blind eye to sexual abuse give you reservations?

Mace: I'm not familiar or aware of that.

You do realize they wouldn't be in this mess if McCarthy had simply kept the promises he made in exchange for their votes, right? Right?

We haven't had a normal budget process followed, "Regular Order", in 27 years. It's a federal law that must be followed. This has allowed expenditures and debt to get out of control. The cast of Speakers has caused this.

Gee, TeaBag, if the nation has such important "things that need doing," the Democrats could, you know, vote for Jordan, just like they could have voted for McCarthy. Not because they like him, of course, but for the good of the nation, because it's just so gosh darned important to get things done. But they don't mean it. It's just a handy club to bash Republicans with.

TeaBagHag said...

Mr. Majesty - Hahahaha! Obtuse as you can get. For 250 years the majority party in the house has managed to elect a leader from their ranks and get on with the people’s business. This GOP is radically inept and you know it.
Why don’t you vote for Biden in 2024 to save the country from divisiveness?

There you have it, ladies and gentlemen, TeaBag has no answer for why the Democrats -- the supposedly responsible adults in Congress -- don't rescue the country from the very dire situation that the "radically inept" Republicans have allegedly created. But we all know the answer: the Democrats in Congress are not responsible adults and the situation isn't dire. The Democrats and their toadies are just making political hay.

Tina Trent said...

Hard right is not libertarian. The mistake is made because the first and only real generation of libertarians simply took for granted that things like law enforcement, patriotism, personal ethics, family values, local obligations, border control, and self control (no to drug legalization) were such obvious undergirdings of liberty that they didn't address them.

Later, feckless morons like the Kochs funded a new "Libertarian" movement that immediately and doltishly surrendered to the only slightly less dim-bulb Marxists who peered across the vertex of circular politics and said, "hey, we could get those idiots stoned and take them over." Thus, Leftitarianism, the (ironically collectivist and fundamentally big government) hemorrhoid on the hard right's ass.

Never trust a Libertarian under 75. The older, small-l ones are actually hard right but liked Ayn Rand. Politics is a circle.

I apologize for that idiot Margery Taylor Greene. I second the suggestion that the NYT style-book have the integrity to use "soft and/or flaccid Left" whenever they use "hard right."

The current crop of so-called "libertarians" could not be more flaccid and soft as well. Seditious surrender and utopianism are their binkies: acceptance into identity politics is their wet dream, and what they imagine to be hip-hop populates their earbuds. They are the farthest thing from conservatism. I beg the leftists here to claim them entirely and send your hot chicks to take them home.

They pushed out McCarthy thinking they’d get Scalise or Jordan

And now they're getting Jordan.

Looks like a good move.

But the core is this: to get elected Speaker, McCarthy provide "no CRs."

Then at the beginning of October, McCarthy announced he was "the only adult in the room", and teamed up with Democrats to pass a CR over the nay votes of 90 Republicans.

So McCarthy had to go. Now he'w gone. Good riddance to bad rubbish
