We're getting our share of red leaves now. Yellow leaves also. The deciduous trees here are mainly Canadian Maples with some alders. About 5% of the leaves have fallen so far.
The grass has recovered from its summer slumbers. I've been clearing the rocks off a 0.3-acre section for planting grass. So many rocks! Our house site sits on a former river bed and glacier extent. I've used the tractor to pick up some of the rocks, but to get the site really clear requires picking the rocks up by hand and using the tractor to dump them in a pile elsewhere. Once I get the rocks cleared, it'll be time to use the box scraper to level the land. Then more rock gathering.
I think that the soaking rain earlier this week finally put out those fires. The remains of Tropical Storm Phillipe was aimed right at them, and it looks like it was a direct hit. The sky was incredibly clear at sunset.
There's a place down here, Caney Mountain (only in the geological sense, really just a big bump), that is covered with maple. Should be bursting about now.
Slow leaf turning here in Boulder. Just this last week starting to see more yellows and reds. Tonight's the first freeze, so it'll probably go quickly next week or so. Aspens up higher were going fast when we went up Monday. No complaints, we can get a hard freeze in mid-September that just turns everything brown and kills shrubs and trees still in full summer mode.

which reminds me of Adam's Task's treatment of science, perhaps the fellow used this exact experiment:
"Now in the case of my dog, can anything like a ranking of rational desires be achieved? ... When I put food before him, my dog eats it ; when I throw the stick, he fetches it. Both he does unfailingly, unless he is distracted by some stronger impulse, such as, on occasion, sex ; and in response to the question whether my dog desires or prefers eating to chasing sticks, I can only say he does both when the situations are to hand and no other impulse interferes. Several times, I have tried putting food before him and throwing a stick at the same time ; each time he has sought neither the food nor the stuck but stood looking at me."
Glad you asked. Although, I would prefer that you say "whatever you like". In its original meaning, want = lack. The assumption that to lack is to desire is not always valid.

I recognize, that most people do not wish to be killed. And I would agree, that I really shouldn't kill them, for that reason alone. Nonetheless, there are any number of situations in which I would kill a person were it possible, and claim that I was entirely justified. The obvious legal example is self-defense, or defense of another person.
But now, let's consider rape. I recognize, that most people do not wish to be raped. And I would agree, that I really shouldn't rape them, for that reason alone. Nonetheless, there are ... no conceivable circumstances under which rape can possibly be justified.
How much do you want to bet that this is just an attack on the Palestinians, and Hamas is somewhere else entirely? I mean, they had paragliders and shit. Stuff you can't get in Gaza. Which means they had help. Which means they can probably get in and out.
Which means they're probably gone, and all the Israelis are doing is killing innocent people trying to find them.
Bernie Madoff should be a reminder to everyone that Jews are just like everyone else. They have a capacity for evil. They can be criminals. They can lie - as a matter fact, they have, from what we can tell, when it comes to "beheading babies" and these other atrocities that they claim are their motivation for what they're doing now. I've been watching people, who have been looking for evidence of this, and so far it hasn't appeared. So, let's not forget that there are two histories of the Jews. The one everyone wants to stick with is the heroic version, but there's another one, and it's nothing to be proud of. It's of a racist, messianic people, looking out for Number One - with a gun -because every conservative is a liberal who got mugged. And they got mugged by the Nazis. Hell, they got mugged by the world. And the world may want to pay them back, but they're doing it on the backs of innocent people.
Those people may be "crazy" Muslims, to you and me, but it's still the definition of wrong.
GWB is mostly held in low regard around here, I know. I had some issues with him also, and he was my CIC. But I enjoyed hearing what he said about Israel today. No two sides to this Israel/Hamas issue for him.
Earlier today, Joe Biden gave a speech in Philadelphia. He had to climb a short flight of stairs–five or six steps–to get to the podium. Biden, trying to look jaunty, tripped twice and almost didn’t make it. When he got to the top step he mugged proudly to the crowd, as if it were an accomplishment.
"The notion, that mass killers are wild beasts, which exists amongst many in the public - 'Kill them all! How could they do such a thing?!?' - is absolutely false. The mask killers are people, just like you and me, who are doing what they think is necessary for the general welfare."

Remember that, the next time, something goes down, and you guys want to start screaming about "monsters," "savages," and the inhumans amongst us. And, I must admit, "savages" is the one that bothers me the most, because that's the one associated to white men killing off the Indians. Talk about killers that need to look in the mirror, but refuses to do so - and prefers to keep acting out their hypocritical legacy by calling others that to this day....[shaking my head]
Where is the Red Cross? Why aren't they checking on the hostages? Where are the blue helmets from the UN? Rhetorical questions of course. The international community is a joke.
War in Europe. Check. War in the Middle East. Check. War in the Far East. Stay tuned, there is still 1+ year left in the Biden administration.

I was going to turn over a new leaf, but decided to turn Red instead.

I love your photo very much! I think it’s the closeness- I could reach out and touch it.
O Canada!

Great artist designed that.

When I went to bed last night Colorado was up 29-0 over Stanford.
Shocked when I saw this morning Stanford won.
The anti-Semitism of Crack Emcee is no surprise. I used to wonder what the reason was but it just seems natural now. Blacks need an enemy.
