"I am Batman."

A new ad for Trump... featuring many celebrities who are made, against their will, to look like they love Trump.

I haven't laughed that hard since - yesterday.

The only really amusing thing about that ad is that the celebrities in it will be exploding in anger at seeing it, so it gets a B+ from me.

JayG said...

Probably produced externally, so he can deny any legal exposure to the use of copyrighted footage and music.

So it repeats many of Trump's well-known attributes: theft, deceit, and cowardice.

Kind off genius to get all these people whom Trump's fans despise screaming about being used.

Kind of pathetic that Trump's campaign is entirely a cult of personality built on marketing.

Funny ad, but what about copyright infringement? Admittedly he took only small bits of much longer works, but given the number of judges that lose their minds when Trump is in the dock this seems risky.

Fantastic! Self-important heads are going to be exploding all over Hollywood today.
I just wish they had made room for Rob Reiner in there somewhere. Maybe it's better they didn't. He'd probably have a stroke.

LOL! I loved the Deniro shot. He’s so obnoxious with his politics he deserves to be in that ad.

And if (when) they complain, people will just think, here's an example of what the ad was talking about - people who are acting on emotion rather than judging him by what he has done.

Most upbeat ad I've seen in awhile.

I'm sure more lawsuits to follow for using various likenesses.

Gusty Winds said...

Love that he uses De Niro. Great actor, but a total liberal prick.

wildswan said...

I guess the celebs will start screaming with rage which will amplify the point the ad is making - that many have been trained like Pavlov's dogs to react with fear and rage when they hear Trump making jokes or explaining policies. People don't ask themselves anymore why they get so angry or fearful. They fling themselves headlong into it as if no control over emotion was a virtue, as if it were a shining path to overcome all the past got wrong.

Yancey Ward said...

Bob Boyd,

I was thinking the exact same thing as I watched it- I hoped Rob Reiner was in there somewhere.

You don’t have the slightest clue what licensing arrangements he’s made. So you repeat many of Trump’s critics’ well-known character flaws.

While I don’t know what arrangements he’s made either, a fair-use argument would probably win the day anyway.

Thing is, by using all those liberal actors in their movie roles, he's not using "them". He's using the image of the character they play. That's not Alec Baldwin. It's the dad from Beetlejuice.

Maybe the Dad from Beetlejuice would be a Trump supporter.

Alec Baldwin, Ellen Page before transitioning, DeNiro. Even Little Miss Sunshine. Someone had way too much fun putting together most of the actors that hate him.

Ann Althouse said...

Most interesting is the use of pre-transition Elliot Page.

Ann Althouse said...

Fair use. Satire.

There are defenses and clearly he doesn’t care. Anyone who complains will enhance his vitality.

Ann Althouse said...

The satire is that he’s showing love where in real life, there is hate.

Lilly, a dog said...

It also has Kurtwood Smith as Boddicker from the "Bitches Leave" scene in Robocop!

Rabel said...

The humorless scolds don't get the comic aspect of the ad. Because they are humorless scolds.

Aggie said...

This was a terrific spurt of creativity, using the Stars that go the Craziest with TDS, harvesting their past footage in dramatic roles, and re-encapsulating it as adoration for Trump. Freakin' genius, and I conclude this because I can't believe somebody didn't think of it before, when one considers all that material out there from various Stars, various careers. Whatever organization is doing this, I hope they keep doing it all the way through the season. If nothing else, the entertainment value watching privileged heads explode and egos deflate will be without parallel.

Aggie said...

I mean, just look at the first few comments: Several of the blog's left-leaning 'usual suspects', triggered and sputtering over something as innocuous as a Trump political advertisement that was clearly done tongue-in-cheek.

gilbar said...

are y'all getting these you tube commercials? from the RNC*?
They start out with an actor saying: "Trump was the Best President in my life...BUT!"
And then continue with the actor saying: "But Trump is the ONLY person, that can't beat Biden.."
And then they leave unsaid: "SO VOTE FOR BIDEN!!!!"

I get those EVERY TIME i open You tube. It's curious that so called conservatives (like, for example Hunter Biden's Tax Paid Hooker, or what ever it calls it self) are HORRIFIED at the thought of TRUMP, and are running MILLIONS of dollars of ads combating him.
The latest says:
"Trump is the favorite of the MAJORITY of Americans.. Polls show him Beating Biden by OVER ten points..
If we nominate Trump the republicans will lose both the House and the Senate.. VOTE AGAINST TRUMP!"

I figure SOON, they will switch to openly saying: The RNC DEMANDS that You Vote For BIDEN!

Can someone in on the game explain how this makes sense? Tax Payer Hooker? You're a whore for Biden, maybe YOU can explain how Trump winning in a landslide would hurt the republicans?

the RNC* actually Americans for Prosperity Action, which is a bunch of Koch sucking whores

Bob Boyd said...

Trump is sampling, just like hip hop artists do, to create something new and original.

I love how Trump showed himself doing some of things that have irked his deranged critics the most, like pushing through the European leaders to stand in front and loudly slurping his diet coke. Like a bitter ex, it's the little things that really piss them off.

Kai Akker said...

... cowardice.

Yes. And it's about time someone pointed this out about Donald Trump.

While the nation could be thriving with President Biden, Trump spends his time coping with a future of financial ruin, life imprisonment, and the threat of assassination from crazed leftists on any given day. I think we should give that coward a gag order so we don't have to hear him cracking jokes about all that. It can really get to you.

wendybar said...

Hollywood turns me off no matter what. Why would I be impressed if some Hillarywoodlanders are used to showcase fake-love for Trump?

Again - cultural crapola. all while our nation swirls down the drain.

In NYT - an entire Hotel is filled with illegal migrants. 1025 rooms completely booked with illegals. (this is just one of many - btw)
The Roosevelt Hotel in mid-town - every single room is occupied by an illegal entrant at a cost of 6,000/ month per family = 75 million. The hotel is owned by the Pakistani government.

Entirely? Are you really going to tell me it's impossible for you to see someone as able to know him, his history, warts and all, and still come away impressed by his performance under pressure? I have personally never seen the slings and arrows being thrown at a single person like this in my life. The political class has called him a traitor, and said he was peeing on hookers in Russia for Putin, a point the comedians ran with like it was fire and they were auditioning for the Olympics. Any normal man would've hung it up a long time ago, if he wasn't already crushed.

Nah, this isn't a cult of personality based on marketing. Trump is the real thing.

Original Mike said...

It is pretty funny.

On a serious note, Gutfeld's voice over is exactly right; the left's reaction is over the top emotionalism, like so much of what they do. That gives the ad more depth than just the funny vignettes.

Dear corrupt left, go F yourselves said...

I care about swamp draining.

robother said...

What a great ad! The satire as Althouse points out, contrasting the fictional love with the real hate. In the case of the Hollywood types, the only reason anyone pays attention to their personal views is the star power derived from their fictional personae. Karma, indeed is a bitch.

Dogma and Pony Show said...

I think it's brilliant. Everyone's focusing on the film clips, but the footage they used of Trump is the key. It shows him doing all sorts of weird and quirky things that never would make it into a normal politician's tv commercials. And that's the point! It's saying, Trump is a character - he's entertaining to some, annoying to others. But as the voiceover explains, "the key is separating your emotional reaction to this character from his objective accomplishments as president" (paraphrasing). IOW, you have permission to hate him and his antics. Turn off your set if you don't like his act. You have other entertainment choices, such as these movies we keep cutting to. It's ALL entertainment at some level, but it would be nice to have a president who gets things done, no?

Bill Owens said...

Trump is entertaining, if nothing else. Is there another candidate who can capture the satirical humor as displayed in this ad? I cannot think of one. That doesn't mean that Trump is best qualified because of his sense of humor. It does, however, separate him from the rest of the boring, insipid candidates that cannot capture anyone's imagination or tickle a funny bone or two. Boring people to sleep is fine when you are already in office; not before.

Drago said...

Ann Althouse: "Fair use. Satire.

There are no doubt prosecutors in leftist controlled DA offices that are looking into dragging the makers of this ad into a New Soviet democratical court somewhere, anywhere, with a 100% dem "jury"...and when that happens conviction will be guaranteed...

...followed by disbarment hearings for the defense attorneys.

Strictly speaking, parody can be a fair use, but satire rarely is. The bigger question for me is whether the ad used so little of the films/tv shows as to evade infringement, and whether the name "Trump" will impact the ability of judge and jury to fairly evaluate this factor.

I, of course, will vote for him if only on the principle that the Left cannot get away with what they have done.

I have been a Republican ever since I first crossed party lines for the rest of my life and voted for Ronald Reagan. But House Republicans today who have launched a formal impeachment hearing on Biden have all agreed that there is no basis or evidence to impeach Joe Biden. So what the hell are we doing this for? Why are the hearings about Hunter Biden instead of Joe Biden? At least the Clinton impeachment hearings had a semen stain on a blue dress that implicated Clinton. My concern is that just like the public viewed the Clinton impeachment hearings as a partisan political ploy by Republicans, they will also view these impeachment hearings on Biden as a partisan political ploy. This will not help Trump or the Republicans in the upcoming elections.

Really? When did they do that?

They didn't say that. I know it is a shock to find out the msm is twisting words and distorting the truth...

From Mediaite: "...Jonathan Turley took the witness stand at the the House impeachment inquiry hearing into President Joe Biden on Thursday, where he endorsed the inquiry itself but stressed that articles of impeachment were not justified by the evidence known at this point.

“This is a question of an impeachment inquiry. It is not a vote on articles of impeachment,” explained Turley. “In fact, I do not believe that the current evidence would support articles of impeachment. That is something that an inquiry has to establish.”

According to Turley, the “threshold for an impeachment inquiry” had been met because Biden had misrepresented facts about his son’s foreign business dealings, because “he was the focus of a multimillion dollar influence-peddling scandal, and because he “may have benefited from millions of dollars as part of that scheme.”
