"We typically don’t engage in these bad-faith attacks but yesterday a line was crossed. A GOP candidate referred to Ayanna as 'a modern grand wizard of the KKK'..."

"... because she speaks out against racial injustice. This is backwards and harmful, but that is the point.”

Ramaswamy hadn't faulted Pressley for speaking out against racial injustice, but for saying "we don’t need any more brown faces that don’t want to be a brown voice," which he characterizes as contrary to racial injustice.

ADDED: Video of Ramaswamy.

Is it a "bad faith" attack to object to being told to keep in your place and mind your manners because someone doesn't like your politics? It's kind of like grouping all of the other races by their relation to Europeans, by mixing them together as "the global majority" whose one defining attribute is that they are not white. It's a kind of white supremacism, only whites are allowed individual opinions.

Europeans are simply the lighter skinned (more northerly) part of the Indo-European population. Our languages are all closely related, when compared to other language groups in the "global majority," But, as I have said before, all taxonomy is political.

... because she speaks out against racial injustice.

That’s just the kind of all-encompassing, nonspecific, likely to be irrelevant even if at one time true, statement that allows people on the political left to get away with saying and doing whatever they like.

And it needs to be continually called out and mocked.

He is smart, ambitious and has gotten things done in his previous endeavors. He seems unprincipled and more than willing to surf the culture-war hate wave. The Republican/Trumpian theme that governments (and the law) must be destroyed to make way for the Nietzscheian savior is strongly articulated.

'I never thought leopards would eat MY face,' sobs woman who voted for the Leopards Eating People's Faces Party.’

His foreign policy views are equal parts Ron Paul and high school debate club. He missed 14 years of voting opportunities but he wants you to vote for him so he can pardon Donald Trump?

He was careful enough to say that the climate change agenda was a hoax. The liberal media universally has reported that he said climate change was a hoax. He wanted that ambiguity.

A remarkable human and almost unparalleled narcissist. Uniquely unqualified to be Commander in Chief.

Our current era involves the breakdown of old white-vs.-minority racial politics. When the USA was 80% to 90% white European circa 1970, almost all minorities voted for one party to gain leverage (not left or right per se, just raw power). There were always many de facto conservative "black and brown people" who wanted a power revolution and political dominance. Now that the USA is 50% to 60% white with many mixed-race and mixed-ideology people, this must end and multi-racial voting coalitions must emerge. Simple math.

Only those frozen in the 1960s speak like Ayanaa. Their white supporters are dying off right now. These are the final leadership days of Biden, Clinton, Schumer, and Pelosi.

Water seeks its own level.

So apparently the radical left and the radical right agree. Racial identity is a part of your essential self that cannot be changed. Non-white people must speak non-white in order to be authentic. This doesn't mean blacks speaking jive or street, as in the Airplane movie (although such lingo is treated with a Smithsonian kind of respect). It is more that no Uncle Toms are allowed-no assumption that the system is more or less fair, all things considered. Angry racist talk about whites is mandatory. Whites, by the same token, must identify as white and keep apologizing for Columbus and what not.

There is apparently a perfect freedom to change one's sexual orientation or gender at any time; not race. Changing one's body to match one's "true" gender is fine; anything similar with race is questionable, and of course whites are supposed to cut out cultural appropriation.

The old left typically said it was all about economics. Humans made a bad economic system, they can make a good one. One big revolution, and everything will be better. Now the left embraces endless struggle to overthrow heteronormal white cismales, in the vague hope of a world of love. Possibly endless revolution.

So, Vivek is correct in his description. Ayanna and her ilk are hateful, vile creatures. Racists in word, deed, and belief.

If Vivek wants to succeed in politics, he needs to stop shooting his own foot. Perhaps for a section of the electorate this plays well, but if the end point (Presidential election) is winning the squishy middle this is unlikely to do that and will be an easy soundbite against him.

@Dave Begley: Recently POC are calling themselves “the global majority.”

The political screw always rotates and never stops. As any party seeks support from a new faction in an effort to gain advantage, the opposition party moves into older vacuums to find a new balance.

Republicans have become the white working class party 50 years after that group was fully owned by pro-union Democrats. If black-and-brown claim majority status, then whites can claim disadvantage and demand reparations...in due course... It's not unlike how women were treated as delicate and coddled, whereby they required Title IX protections, etc. Then, the alt-sex activists took over the Democratic Party and traditional feminists are "bigoted TERFs" who must vote conservative to have any voice at all.

Understand these rotations and move with them or ahead of them. These moves are merely political Kabuki Theater that disguises boredom with the status quo, raw selfish greed, and will-to-power dominance.

Mike (MJB Wolf) said...

This ability to speak the truth and stand by it is one reason Ramaswamy has become a rising voice in the GOP. It is a far more conservative and powerful message than Mitt or McCain ever voiced. It’d be better if he had a record of governing that way too but his outsider status is highly valued too.

Presley takes the position that the permissible scope of expression for people with brown skin should be narrower for people with brown skin than for people with white skin. And it should be narrower in a way that favors her inerests as a tribalist politician. She believes that skin color conveys an essence of one's identity.
Those beliefs are wrong. They are evil. So is Presley. The KKK thing is hyperbole, a red herring.

More power to Ramaswamy. We need this "conversation". Racism is racism, even when it's coming from a "brown voice". At this point, maybe especially when it's coming from a brown voice, because it's these people who now have the power to oppress in this country.

Progressives have progressed since the primitive days of Woodrow Wilson. Back then, they only felt ontologically superior to Black people, but that's done with. Now they feel superior to white working class people. This is a superior form of white supremacy.....Just recently there was a flurry of attacks by crazy people against elderly Asian women. Those crazy people were almost exclusively Black. I believe the approved narrative was that these attacks were example of how our racist society were failing our people of crazy. There were, I'm sure, no observations from pundits on how it was important for Black people to reflect on their lack of character and how such crimes were revelatory of the deeper pathologies within the Black community.

It was difficult to watch that whole clip.

Every time that dreadful blonde policed & talked over her interviewee, my pointer finger kept unconsciously/instinctively moving to the computer button that would kill the feed, she was so awful, but then my conscious side would stop myself because I really DID want to witness the entire exchange.

Is this woman a fixture at CNN? Gawd.

Thanks, Althouse, for the reminder of how excellent it is that I stopped watching any TV Nooz 20 years ago.

To the limited extent I participate in it, I take pride in white culture. It works pretty well for most white people west of Russia. Chinese culture, by way of contrast, hasn't been working all that well for Chinese people. There were all those famines, and the Chinese governments liberal policies towards abortion have left a population imbalance--not to mention a lot of female Chinese babies killed at birth. The Chinese culture is in many way superior to that of Western Europeans, but a fat lot of good it's done them.....There's been a studied attempt to equate western culture with Hitler. Hitler is part of the equation, but democracy, religious tolerance, etc. these are all things that had their origin in Western Europe.

I like Vivek and hope he does well, but I don't think he qualifies for membership in those huddled masses yearning to be free. He comes from a high caste Hindu family. Those high caste Hindu families benefited not from four hundred years of affirmative discrimination, but from several thousand years of discrimination. He gets to have his cake and eat it too. But that's nothing compared to Kamala. She gets her cake with a side of ice cream and a weight reducing drug.....The world is full of people who have been dealt a better hand than me, and not all of them are white. I'm not pissed off at anybody. Just saying.

The question is not whether Trump lies, distorts, misrepresents and gaslights objective facts. Because he does. Dishonor and dishonesty are the hallmarks of his character.

The question is not whether the Republican Party will ignore all of that and nominate him for the 2024 general election. Because it will. Dishonor and dishonesty (along with multiple indictments and possible felony convictions) will not derail his support in the GOP base.

No, the real question is whether moderates, independents and swing voters see Trump as a clear and present danger to functional democracy and rule of law in America.

Ramaswamy speaks fluent MAGA gibberish. On cable news, I heard how he did so well at the debate and now the blogosphere joins in. Can somebody tell me why the media always zooms on the craziest possible candidate and starts building them up? He didn't do well because he said things that are simply insane, and it is not easy to be the craziest candidate in a Republican debate. Just another performance artist for the reality TV show that American politics has become. Same as Trump. Car crash politics gets clicks....
