There's a hoot owl that hangs out at my barn. I really like to listen to him, and when he flies he doesn't make a sound. Really cool.

"Saw an owl yesterday."

Althouse left out the subject ("I") to get us to say "who/hoo" like that owl in the eyeglass commercial.

"I see what you're doing."

I may be blind, but where is Owldo??

Joe Smith said...

Did you ask him how many licks it takes to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop?

Robert Marshall said...

Is this like a Where's Waldo book? Cause that always put me to sleep when "reading" to the kids.

JZ said...

Guess I’ll have to take your word for it. Looks to me like you saw a tree.

Robert Marshall said...

Okay, Waldo's just right of center, and appears to be facing the other way.

Iman said...

I’d say “who who who is zoom in’ who?”…

But I can’t find the owl in the pic.

Where's Waldo (the owl)?

We've had one outside our bedroom window for the past two nights. Noisy little suckers! Hubby went out and scared it away a couple times last night, but he kept returning. We finally put on some music to cover the sound because each time we were almost asleep he would start his loud "who-whooing" and wake us up once more.

NorthOfTheOneOhOne said...

We have one of these living in the common area next to our house.

BUMBLE BEE said...

I don't give a hoot.

NorthOfTheOneOhOne said...

Mrs. NorthOfTheOneOhOne has just informed me that we actually have a pair of Cooper's Hawks and they have a nest near by. Of course, she's partially to responsible for them being here since she puts out safflower for the Mourning Doves and Quail.

Mike (MJB Wolf) said...

When he (she?) is balled up in that shape it makes him hard to see. Wow! We have one that hoots nearby but I have no idea which tree he is in. Plenty of red-tailed hawks as well, given our high rabbit/rodent/squirrel population in the boonies, and even a couple of rare shiny black western red-tailed hawks. Nice photo Althouse. Quite a challenge to see him there.

MadisonMan said...

Are the people who can't view the owl on phones or something?
There's a Great Horned Owl nesting near my house. I do ponder how big its prey might be as I walk the dog in the morning.

Ann, you have better eyes than I do.

A trial in the rape case filed by Huntertown's own Jeanie Carroll is scheduled to start on April 25. Carroll and Trump are expected to testify.

That should be fun, especially watching TFG lie under oath. The judge has ruled that key witnesses will be allowed to testify and misogynistic remarks Trump made about women in 2005 when he apparently didn’t realize he was being recorded can be played for a jury that will hear quarter-century-old rape allegations made by the former Elle Magazine columnist.

In keeping with Althouse's theme herein, no one gives a hoot that Jeanie's Donna Karan coatdress, contaminated with semen, will not be part of the trial since no sample for comparison was provided by Trump.

A little owl in a big tree…

I find that birds, even relatively large ones when I’m fairly close, never show up in photos.

Amazon announced Monday its plans to lay off another 9,000 employees, bringing its total job cuts to 27,000 since November.

Wow!! I just can't comprehend all those people being dismissed, but the company continues to function.

The article specifically mentioned Amazon's gaming division, Twitch laying off 400.

As the new owners of timberland next to my late mother's 10 acres cut down all the trees to turn the property into crop land, all the birds seemed to have moved to my mothers wooded lot. So did a lot of other woodland creatures. So, my mother's property has turned into a bird sanctuary. It is very loud but sounds beautiful at both dawn and dusk with the various bird calls blending together. There is a couple of owls among the evening gathering.

I spent eight months of last year spending two nights and days each week with mother as her health declined. I would step out every morning as the sun come up to enjoy my cup of coffee and the sound of the day awakening. I'll treasure the moments mother was feeling well enough to join me on those morning. We just put the property up for sale. I'll never be able to drive down that country road again without crying.

Barred owl.

Great horned owls tend to roost much nearer the trunk, which is why they have those horns.

I think it's cute Gadfly thinks one of the most famous men in America could just saunter into a department store - in broad daylight - and rape a women in a dressing room. And nobody would notice.

By cute, I mean gobsmackingly stupid.

Quaestor said...

Cooper's hawks (Accipiter cooperi, a true hawk, btw, we Americans tend to lump the buzzards with the hawks and mistake vultures for buzzards.) are very common, but seldom seen. They are past masters of the stealthy attack, going so far as to approach their targets on foot rather than expose their silhouette to the open sky.

Price's law: half the work is done by the square root of the number of people. That gets unintuitively small in a large company like Amazon. googles...

1.3 million employees means half the work is done by 1140 employees.

I haven’t seen or heard our owls in a few weeks. But I’ve been sleeping better so maybe they’re still noisy at night bit aren’t waling me up…

The gators are getting horny and have been growling today…

…and one for the WTF? Dept: This is what Wisconsin liberal Supreme Court candidate Janet Protasiewicz said in court about a 23yr old man who raped his 14yr old cousin: "I don't think you did anything other than engage in a crime of opportunity and hopefully you've learned your lesson."

I can't see the bird clearly, even with hints.

The owls around here haven't been very noisy lately, but the songbirds are active.

If you are wondering why our Poor Man's LLR-democratical Chuck: gadfly, is pushing the Jean Carroll lies so desperately today, its probably because of this:

U.S. District Court Special Master CONFIRMS @PVeritas_Action had actually confirmed the Ashley Biden Diary was LEGITIMATE.

So yes, Joe Biden showered with his 11 year old daughter. Repeatedly. And in Ashley Biden's own words, Joe Biden "sexualized" her.

Readers of Althouse blog will recall, with disgust no doubt, how passionately gadfly, Inga and victoria defended this practice as "perfectly normal".

One can only imagine the worlds gadfly, Inga and victoria grew up in to defend such actions.

Needs a #democraticalsaregroomers tag.

I'd be vert interested, to hear what you lawyers think about this?
SCOTUS Nullifies Lower Court Ruling Giving Teen The Right To Seek An Abortion Without Parental Notification
The case, Chapman v. Doe, was initially brought by a 17-year old girl, “Jane Doe,” against a state court clerk, Michelle Chapman, who Doe argues violated her Fourteenth Amendment rights by saying her parents would have to be notified if she wanted to apply for a judicial bypass to the state’s abortion parental consent requirement. Before its abortion ban took effect, Missouri law required minors to secure written parental consent before obtaining an abortion, a requirement that could be bypassed with a judge’s permission following a court hearing.
Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson authored a four-page solo dissent, questioning what she sees as a “sharp uptick” in the use of an uncommon procedure called a “Munsingwear vacatur,” which allows the court to vacate decisions when a case becomes moot during its appeal. It also prevents the case from being used as precedent in the future.

Not sure that i understand lawyer/judge talke, but i'd think having a "solo dissent" would be lonely?

Trump is in the news because of some legal business related to a woman named Stormy Daniels.
I have a sensitive bullshit meter. First hit on the bullshit meter: Stormy Daniels is not a "porn actress," she is a prosti.
Second hit on the bullshit meter: No one can describe exactly what they believe happened between Trump nad Daniels that night in 2006, other than . . . spanking with a magazine? Seriously?
Read Daniels's wiki page and tell me how reliable a witness she is, how she would scatter Trump's lawyers with the power of Her Truth.

A couple of years ago, I was attacked by an owl at dusk in front of my house. Banged me in the back of the head and almost knocked me over. Then it perched on the electric wire and mocked me when I looked around for my assailant.
