The only way I would consider tuning in a SOTU is if they went full Late Roman Empire and made everyone wear togas. As well as an appropriatly garbed Trans person leading the way for Brandon strewing petals. Comedy Tonight!

Paul Pelosi is wearing a hat.

The female Senator from AZ is wearing a beautiful bright yellow dress.

DH wants to listen to State of Union. Why? Hell if I know because he hates Biden as much as I do.

Looking forward to reading Althouse (maybe Meadehouse???) analysis on the SoU in the am.

Moving to alternate TV so I can watch my latest K-drama release on Netflix.

K-dramas have been my happy zone this past year. And Althouse.

Super Bowl quips from the AARP magazine:

> Former Cowboys linebacker Thomas “Hollywood” Henderson once famously said, “(Terry) Bradshaw's so dumb he couldn't spell cat if you spotted him the 'c' and the 'a. ' ” That was before Super Bowl XIII back in 1979, when Bradshaw led the Steelers past the Cowboys, 35-31, and was the game's MVP.*

> Russ Grim, Washington Redskin lineman was quoted as saying he would run over his mother to win the Super Bowl. To which Raider's linebacker Matt Millen responded: "I would run over Russ Grimm's mother too". The Raiders won the game 38-9.

I would add that Grimm went to Pitt and Millen went to Penn State, arch rivals at the time.

* I fixed the Hollywood Henderson quote as AARP was incorrect in the two letters that were spotted.

Biden is a tool who has never had a real job.

The entirety of that building is useless.

They think they are kings ruling over us.

This country has been going downhill since the '90s.

I miss David Foster Wallace. He was tortured by a form of mental illness that was intertwined with his artistic genius.
He would have loved today's tennis, with a slew of great young players.
And btw, season 4, episode 1, of VEEP. has a great SOTU address.

It looks like we lost Howard and got Chuck back. I don't know whether to laugh or cry. For all his many faults, Howard had a certain macho senile old man entertainment value. Chuck is just a mincing weasel. I think that reading too many comments on the Interwebs is turning me into a misanthropist, or perhaps just revealing the inner me. I was out running this afternoon on a pretty remote trail when I suddenly heard a roaring engine and a wild drunken shout. I immediately thought to myself "I fucking hate people". I then thought, "Christ I must be an asshole to think that straight away" Probably right both times... .

Joe Biden has lots of fucking gall. The guy who has let more fentanyl into this country than anyone was complaining about fentanyl.

Dave Begley said...

Biden, “Fentanyl is killing more than 70,000 Americans a year.

Let's launch a major surge to stop fentanyl production, sale, and trafficking, with more drug detection machines to inspect cargo and stop pills and powder at the border.

Working with couriers like Fed Ex to inspect more packages for drugs. Strong penalties to crack down on fentanyl trafficking.”

NYT prints an editorial that provoking Russia into a war, and refusing to negotiate, because we thought that they had a second rate military and we could crush their economy with sanctions, has been a colossal miscalculation. Bloomberg chucked one in too. We just relearned that peer wars are about industrial production, and just in time production policies are a recipe for failure. We should not pick wars that we are not prepared to fight. That goes double for China. We should learn to get along with countries where we probably would not want to live.

Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell [one year ago] issued a tacit rebuke of controversial Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, slamming the Georgia Republican’s “loony lies and conspiracy theories” as a “cancer” for the party.

“Loony lies and conspiracy theories are cancer for the Republican Party and our country,” McConnell said in a statement. “Somebody who’s suggested that perhaps no airplane hit the Pentagon on 9/11, that horrifying school shootings were pre-staged, and that the Clintons crashed JFK Jr.’s airplane is not living in reality. This has nothing to do with the challenges facing American families or the robust debates on substance that can strengthen our party.”

Biden deliberately left the topic of mental health before moving on to disingenuously impute the attack on Paul Pelosi by a deranged hippy commune dweller to his political opponents, rather than mental health.

I'd assume, that this will make bing, EVEN worse??
Microsoft Adds ChatGPT AI Technology to Bing Search Engine

Microsoft Corp. is integrating the technology behind the viral chatbot ChatGPT into its Bing search engine, hoping the artificial intelligence upgrade can help it chip away at Google’s dominance of the search market.

Just read a tweet...
"Dark Brandon forcing Republicans to loudly promise that they won't cut Medicare or Social Security is the most effective use of the SOTU address I've ever seen."
Dems replay that constantly. Nothing new...

"There was a vital bureaucratic reason for relying on the graduates of the center’s hardcore diving school in Panama City. The divers were Navy only, and not members of America’s Special Forces Command, whose covert operations must be reported to Congress"

If you absolutely need to keep an act of war against an ally, Germany, and a nuclear superpower, Russia, secret and hidden from Congress.
