Very good news!
December 4, 2022
"Iran has abolished the morality police, according to an announcement by the attorney general carried on state media..."
"... following months of protests set off by the death of a young woman who was being held by the force for supposedly violating the country’s strict Islamic dress laws.
The decision, reported by state news outlets late Saturday night, appeared to be a major victory for feminists who have sought for years to dismantle the force and for the protest movement ignited by the death of the young woman, Mahsa Amini, 22, in September. The unrest has amounted to one of the biggest challenges in decades to Iran’s system of authoritarian clerical rule and the decision to scrap the morality police was the government’s first major concession to the protesters.
The morality police 'was abolished by the same authorities who installed it,' the statement by Attorney General Mohammad Javad Montazeri said...."

Good.
Next - Mullahs with chopped off heads.
OK - girl can dream.
Bone thrown.
Not nearly good enough.
These were the legit authorities allowed on twitter consider that
Color me skeptical. It will still exist - in another form, with a different name - much like our own “‘Disinformation’ Czar.”
The morality police 'was abolished by the same authorities who installed it,
i Wonder, what they'll replace it with? Meet the New Boss.. The Same As the Old Boss
And it will be replaced with an unofficial mob version of the same thing.
Wow.
God bless the people of Iran and may they find joy, peace, and love in our world.
And beware false prophets.
An Islamic regime must be serious in every field. There are no jokes in Islam. There is no humor in Islam. There is no fun in Islam. There can be no fun and joy in whatever is serious. Islam does not allow swimming in the sea...
Too little, even if true.
It’s a trap.
Seems like good news but I think we should wait and see if anything really changes.
Doubtful news. Probably will last until Biden has another try at a nuke deal with the mullahs.

Very good news!
Ann is at the top of her trolling game today.
Now hang all the mullahs and the people of Iran might have a chance at life.
Rejection of ethics. A return to morality. A positive development, indeed. #PrinciplesMatter
"Very good news!"
Oh, Christ, yeah! Our troubles are over!
Uh-huh.
The last Persian Spring was fully funded through redistributive change (e.g. overriding claims) and the people left to their own devices (e.g. Afghan Spring). And the ass brayed: that's not funny, and we're not serious.
Now hang all the mullahs and the people of Iran might have a chance at life.
A return to first-world conditions under a Persian Shah. Emigration reform, perhaps.
The NYT reports.
Very good news!
We'll see if it's very fake news.

Translation. Be happy with what you got. Don't expect anything more.
They were more successful than the Canadian truckers.
“ Islam does not allow swimming in the sea...”
Not good news for bin Laden.
Remember the Spring! Be wary, ladies, it's a cookbook.
They were more successful than the Canadian truckers.
Trudeau congratulated the Chinese "truckers".
Cookbook.
"Iran has abolished the morality police"
And bless your heart for believing that.
"Iran has abolished the morality police"
Next up, Islam?
What is the feminist position on Islam, anyway?
“Islam does not allow swimming in the sea...”
tim in vermont: "Not good news for bin Laden."
On the contrary, sinking has nothing to do with swimming.
We've heard what they have said. Now let's see what they actually do.
It will be interesting to follow what happens now in Iran. Now that they are abolished "officially," could a lot of these extremists still be policing morality on their own time? And would the government turn a blind eye to them because they believe that they're doing "god's work?" Will these robed terrorists become like the Klan was in the United States? Thriving in that grey area between: not being officially supported by the government and unofficially left alone by the government because the government likes what they are doing.
I guess it's possible. Some Fascist governments made the transition to democracy: Spain, Portugal, South Korea. Some Communist governments in eastern Europe also had a soft landing. Maybe the Mullahs will consider the error of their ways. I mean it's possible.
This is heartless.
Now all those morality policemen are out of a job.
And right before Christmas too...
They are all busy killing teens... its just a quick job reassignment with the same purpose. The good news is... they blinked first. Hoping the brave people of Iran double down on their protests.
"What is the feminist position on Islam, anyway?"
Generally on the back, legs spread; male feminists will bend over.
(N.B. There are a few honest and serious feminists and male feminists who know Islam for what it is, but they rarely are heard from.)
"We've heard what they have said. Now let's see what they actually do."
True of every government.
The regulations will likely be enforced by other police, but the concession means that the authorities aren't all powerful. That is a dangerous - to the authorities - idea to let loose.
May the fleas of ten thousand camels infest mullah armpits!
It's good news because it shows that the regime can't ignore the protestors. That's a big win even if nothing actually changes. But as others have pointed out, it is also a trap. If this small gesture is enough to take the edge off the protests, then nothing really will change.
Are 15,000 arrested protestors still condemned to death? Their release should be a condition to stop the protests.
The morality police will be replaced by the secret morality police. Totalitarian regimes cannot be sustained without totalitarian means.
Sounds like this is coming from one mid-level Iranian official who is not in charge of the morality police.
This would be fantastic if it is true.
Iranian State TV is reporting there has been no change to policy, and the mandatory Hijab remains in place.
Check out @borzou on Twitter. He's an international reporter for the Independent. Other middle east accounts are much more cautious about this information than the NYTs headline.
And yes...to me the NYTs has the same credibility as Iranian State TV. I don't even trust them announcing good news I wish to be true.
If this true, Democrats can import and employ the Iranian Morality Police to enforce their soon to be returning mask and "vaccine" mandates.
Not much difference between Iran arresting a woman for not wearing a hijab and what Democrats and liberals did during COVID.
Iran forces women to wear hijabs which is oppression. Democrats and liberals force children to wear masks in pre-school...which is also oppression. But it's "the good kind" of oppression.
Abolished or renamed?
Be nice to know why. I hope it's because enough of the ruling clergy couldn't stand doing it any more.
@richlb and Mikey NTH:
Yes, that's the issue. Does Iran have a tiny minority that uses the power of the state to enforce extreme morality codes, leaving the masses seething with discontent?
Or do the morality police represent a social consensus, with only a minority of hijab-free rebels trying to push the boundaries?
I certainly don't know, and time will tell.
An old friend of mine, a west African Christian, understood human nature very well. Referring to Muslims he said, "If they cover up everything but the big toe, men will lust for the big toe."
turns out it's fake news
