Freezing temperatures and fog this morning. Lows around 28.

Concrete for our driveway and patio was poured today. My concrete contractor was onsite at 7:00 a.m. and the first concrete truck arrived just after 8:00 a.m. The Sun was just barely up and frost was all over the ground. The forms and ground were protected from the cold with warming blankets put down yesterday afternoon.

The concrete contractor used a pump/boom truck to get the concrete to the back patio. The boom stretched over the house and the delivery hose was jockeyed around go get the concrete into the forms. Repeat for the front concrete work.

Need to put down top soil, straw and hogg's fuel (chipped trees) prior to final inspection. Final inspection should occur next week.

--- "When my eyes shall be turned to behold for the last time the sun in heaven, may I not see him shining on the broken and dishonored fragments of a once glorious union; on states dissevered, discordant, belligerent; on a land rent with civil feuds, or drenched, it may be, in fraternal blood!"

"Liberty and Union, now and forever, one and inseparable."

... " his dizzying maneuvers to prevent war with Britain over Maine's remote northern region, which was claimed by both Britain and the U.S. Webster's solution involved the exploitation of an obscure map purportedly drawn by Benjamin Franklin, a ploy that outfoxed Maine's bellicose leadership, won the admiration of his English counterpart, averted war, established a permanent border with Canada, and transformed the hitherto brittle relationship between the U.S. and Britain. After 1842, 'the two English-speaking giants would no longer threaten war against each other. They remained henceforth resolute allies in war and peace. This was the beginning of the 'special relationship.' " "

review of Indivisible, by Joel Richard Paul; reviewed by Fergus M. Bordewich in WSJ, Sat/Sun 11/12-13.

"Some may wish the author had devoted more space to Daniel Webster's colorful private life, including dalliances with beautiful Boston painter Sarah Goodridge, who presented him with a self-portrait miniature showing her fulsome naked breasts, titled 'Beauty Revealed.' "

Maybe. But don't all good American men keep a mistress with fulsome breasts that she will bare naked whenever it is sought? But. Of. Course.

Heading to K.C. MO tomorrow morning. The snow will remain to the northeast of our route--no lakes to contribute--but it'll be cold.

Never been to the place. She'll be busy with her Outlander cult rites most of the time, but I'll be at the WW I museum, and maybe Truman's shrine.

Interesting. Our house, 1.5 miles from there, had a lot more snow.

Recolonizing Africa?

Africa has vast gas reserves – here’s how to stop them adding to climate change

The question of whether Africa should be allowed to exploit its gas reserves, estimated at more than 17.56 trillion cubic meters (620 trillion cubic feet) in 2021, has been much discussed at the latest UN climate change summit, COP27, in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt.

Proving once again, that the Progressive hate machine is being supported by corrupt judges. This is ridiculous, and all it is going to do, is make people defend themselves and it won't end well for the Protected criminals once they are dead.

Think the economy is roaring back? We went to Applebee's for dinner last night. In our seating area, which was half the total seating area, we were the only customers. Just the two of us. The other half had 4 or so. I realize it was Wednesday night, but you can't run a profitable restaurant like that.

"So Trump wasn’t selling nuclear secrets on Craigslist after all. Who knew? Everyone. And that likely includes the Department of Justice and the FBI. Funny how WaPo sat on that story until after the midterms, right?"

WAPO is an arm of the Regressive Progressive party...as is the NYT's

I like the lower photo especially. It looks so deserted, yet there’s no snow on the path. So it must have been well traveled this morning. Then there’s the fallen log and the tree that’s about to come crashing down. Not so much stillness after all.

Yes, it was something like 34%, so it was the kind of snow that disappears once stepped on. The wet leaves were a good walking surface. I'd contemplated putting my "nanospikes" on my shoes, but it was fine without them. Not slippery at all.

"Then there’s the fallen log and the tree that’s about to come crashing down. Not so much stillness after all."

Yeah, there are many leaning and many half fallen trees out there. The other day, we were walking in a nearby woods and a big branch fell from some height. I saw it and heard the strong thud. That could kill you if you were unlucky. But I think it's more common to get hit by a car when you're walking on an ordinary sidewalk. Some car just jumps the curb and that's that.

wendybar, that's why Africa supports Russia in this war. The war on our side is for total domination of all deal making space so that no African country can tap its own NG without a by-your-leave from the WEF infested governments in the West, with the US being the chairman of the board, with one of those Dr Evil controls that can instantly drop any member into a tank of always hungry sharks.
