But that's just my sense of political humor, and I have a long memory, and it certainly goes back to 2004, when John Kerry campaigned in Wisconsin and called Lambeau "Lambert."
Anyway, here's the context for Ron's question "How do you spell Lambeau?," from the NYT article "Tom Brady and Ron DeSantis Are Said to Be on Texting Terms/The Republican nominee for Wisconsin governor, Tim Michels, told supporters recently that while DeSantis was watching a Packers game at Lambeau Field, he was texting the Buccaneers quarterback":
“I took Governor DeSantis to the Packer game at Lambeau Field,” Mr. Michels told a gathering of the Lake Country Patriots, a far-right group, on Thursday at a brewery in Oconomowoc, Wis.
Mr. DeSantis, who on the day of the Packers game had appeared at a rally for Mr. Michels and Senator Ron Johnson of Wisconsin, “had never been to Lambeau Field before and he wanted to go,” Mr. Michels said. “We’re sitting there, you know, we’re watching the game and all of a sudden, I look over and he’s texting and he says, ‘How do you spell Lambeau?’”
“I say, ‘Who are you texting with?’ He says, ‘I’m texting with Tom Brady.’ The governor of Florida gets to text with Tom Brady.... I’m hoping that when I’m governor of Wisconsin, I can text Aaron Rodgers,” the longtime Packers quarterback.
I got to that NYT article via this Intelligencer article "Tom Brady Texting Ron DeSantis Is Trump’s Nightmare Come True." Yes, the main story for most people is that Brady is friends with Trump, so it might mean something big if he's texting with DeSantis. Brady plays for a Florida team and DeSantis is the Florida governor, but, whatever, anything that can be about Trump will be about Trump in the MSM.
Personally, I was intrigued — and this was before I saw any Wisconsin connection — because the first sentence is oddly structured and I just liked it... and not just because of the strawberries:
While some of us mainly know Tom Brady as a frequent Super Bowl villain with a strange strawberry phobia who may be on the verge of divorcing Gisele Bündchen, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback is so cool to some folks that merely having someone text him in their presence is worth bragging about.
I'm guessing — from my privileged position here in Wisconsin — that Tim Michels brought it up not because Tom Brady "is so cool" but because it situated him at a Packers game and set up a line about Aaron Rodgers.

THIS is news?? They would be partying in the streets in NYC if it were Obama that Brady was texting. What a joke they are.
"Trump " and "misinformation." Both in one propaganda piece.
Johnson is going to defeat that communist with the fake name. Hopefully Michels will do the same with his opponent.

That's what I got from it--it set up a great humble-brag.
But that's the New York Times for you, which felt the need to describe the PAC as far right despite that being probably not true and definitely not relevant. You don't read The Times for thoughtful analysis, you read The Times to find out what the libs are thinking about.
Reminds me of another joke about names: How do you pronounce Beto O'Rourke's first name?
"Rob-ert"
Talk about casting shade... Playing a Jets card is a strange reach. He timeshared a Jersey apartment outside the stadium with Dr. Oz, we may hear soon.
We'll also soon know whether this is going to go as badly for the Democrats as it appears it will. Unfortunately this may result in less peace in our host's community, as when things went GOP the last time. Who knows how they'll try to win hearts and minds next.
Humor? Google "worn out old Donkey" for some good Desantis video.
"A far right group"
What do you call a right-wing group? Far-right
What do you call a left-wing group? A group
You know who else texted with Brady? Hitler!
Wait for the coming stories about how Brady beats Giselle every night.
The media are desperate to trash both.
It would appear that the only reason this piece was written was to get DeSantis' name and "far right group" in the same article. Or does someone have a better theory?
"Lake Country Patriots, a far-right group"
I bet this is a group of people who support the Constitution.
Anyone who disagrees with the Lib/NYT narrative is (according to the NYT) extreme and a threat to our democracy.
Fuck'em. We're pushing back. No more Mr. Nice Guy.
I agree with your assessment as to Michels's motivation.
I do wonder thought, how does the NYT define "far right group"? What criteria do they use? Is there a criteria other than just the fact its members weren't spitting invective at the republican in attendance?
"far-right"
They just can't help themselves, can they?
They NYT's is a completely worthless publication that is produced by idiot tools for evil Oligarchs and taken seriously only by fools.
There can be only one.
SJW's and Liberals hate Tom Brady. I think he reminds them of the High school QB who dated the head cheerleader. Or the tall good looking guy who dated girls they could never get. Especially since they spent all their time talking about TV shows or what happenned in English class.
It's bad enough to hear about the politics of politicians, but worse to hear micro-analysis of the political preferences and affiliations of athletes.
The opinions of athletes and actors (and other entertainers) are almost always worthless outside their narrow spheres.
The November issue of Vanity Fair magazine includes a feature article about Ron DeSantis. That article reports that DeSantis is quite contemptuous about Donald Trump.
Reading that article caused me to think that DeSantis will challenge Trump in the 2024 Republican primary race if Trump runs.
So, we are well and truly in a children's playground according to NYT.
Many have already commented my thoughts regarding "far right." They have a Facebook Group and are pretty benign. Nothing radical, just as Begley bet supporters of the Constitution.
"Lake Country" is an area just west of Milwaukee in Waukesha County that has a lot of lakes, and some of the most expensive real estate in Wisconsin.
Who is Tom Brady? I know I've heard the name, but I just can't place it ...
Tom Brady, like Aaron Rodgers, was a late bloomer.
Some people envy excellence.

NYT awakens in a sweat, rolls over and shakes Nancy.
I heard he pronounces it "Thlambeau Field" and dumps any girls who correct him.

Which almost certainly means that it isn't true.

Yes indeed! "Trump, Johnson, and misinformation" all in one response.

If you believe anything you read in a magazine like Vanity Fair, you are easily duped. It is likely just hearsay or bullshit created out of emanations.

Aaron Rodgers wasn't a late bloomer. He set records at Cal and was the number 1 draft pick of the Packers...24th overall. He didn't play much in his first three years, but that's because the Packers had a HOF QB in Brett Favre.

Rodgers was the Packer's 1st Round Draft Pick #24 in 2005 but he was expected to be taken 1st or 2nd in the draft. The 49ers were rebuilding and chose Utah's Alex Smith instead of Rodgers. Aaron came off as prickly and egotistical in meeting with the 49ers, as reflected by his comment about being humiliated while waiting four hours to be picked. Rodgers's response to being passed over:
"Not as disappointed as the 49ers will be that they didn't draft me,"
Aaron Rodgers waited three years to become the starter at Green Bay because Brett Favre was leading a successful Packer team. Rodgers told them to "Play me or trade me" so Favre finally went bye-bye.
Lake Country Patriots are a bunch of extremists who support no exceptions for rape or incest. They still believe Trump won the election and that there was massive voter fraud. Antivaxxer weirdos. Putin supporting Americans are not patriots.

Nobody in their right mind from the donkey party votes for Newsom as a presidential candidate because his ex-wife is none other than Kimberly Guilfoyle, who was fired by Fox for sexual conduct and is supposedly now engaged to Don Trump Jr.
As for Donald Trump's appointment to SCOTUS, his hundreds of court cases will prevent this.
"...we’re watching the game..."
Reminds me of the Peyton Manning commercial right after he retired where he calls up Eli to ask him over to watch the game only to be reminded that Eli's working that day. Seems to me that there was a high probability that Tom Brady was likewise occupied that day.
Also, if you're actually at Lambeau Field, and have ignored all the identifying signs elsewhere, all you have to do is look at the scoreboard.
All in all, it's a cute story that served Michel's purpose, but I doubt it happened.
gadfly: "Yes indeed! "Trump, Johnson, and misinformation" all in one response."
Interesting note: gadfly has spent 18 months denying inflation is a problem or that we are in a recession after spending months praising his beloved Biden's economic plans.
Discuss.
Jake: "I do wonder thought, how does the NYT define "far right group"? What criteria do they use?"
"far right group" = any group not actively on the left working with lunatic child body mutilators and groomers.
So, for instance, Inga and gadfly together constitute a "group" that is not "far right" as both Inga and gadfly are 100% on board the far left agenda that has led the New Soviet Democraticals over the "thelma and louise" political cliff.
Anyone not a democrat is now labeled as far-right. Every time a non Republican group is mentioned we should declare them far left.
Trump in a robe on the Supremes?
Let me have a hit of whatever you're smoking.
Another gut-punch for gadfly: Charlie Crist's old staffers are putting out public letters endorsing DeSantis!
That's a tough break for a committed democratical like gadfly.
Perhaps someone can send a gadfly a poster of Gavin Newsome or another of his lefty heroes/heroines like Elizabeth Warren or Stacy Abrams? As a pick me up to get gadfly thru these trying times.
gadfly is at it again.
Yes indeed! "Trump, Johnson, and misinformation" all in one response.
For a Russia Hoax believer, I'll just remind you of the old saying. "Never mention rope in the house of a man whose been hanged."
As for "Mugabe" Barnes, he is a standard lefty, as the Democrat Party swings left.
Ron Johnson has been a strong Senator and his business background has helped. The other guy is another "community organizer."
Down here Illinois way 80%-90% of the dem ads are solely about abortion. Even Rape and incest seems to be the mantra.
To me it sounds like they're open to abortion ONLY for rape and incest.
Im pretty sure a deal can be struck on that, right?

Funny, Google doesn't know any of this but you do. How is that?
There was massive voter fraud, and Trump would have won if there wasn't. And by "Antivaxxer" you mean the COVID jabs, that is hardly a "far right" position. I mean, how many blacks, hispanics, and Native Americans are far right. There is certainly nothing weird about refusing them. And Putin supporting?

She's lashing out because she knows she and her party are probably going to get their asses kicked in two weeks by the very people she hates with every fiber of her being.
That's why life sucks for leftists. They live, breath and die according to hyper-partisan politics. It's a pathetic life.

Pretty close to 100% in Arizona. Looks like it's the only issue facing the Nation this year.

If Desantis challenges Trump he is choosing to end his national ambitions.
Desantis is getting record amounts of campaign cash from billionaires and corporations.
If he thinks that is how you win the republican nomination post 2016 he deserves to be humbled.
I would prefer Kari Lake anyways. Desantis is pretty obviously a career politician swamp creature at this point.
good grief, gabriel sherman doesn't have a clue, the sources are all anonymous, like that line about thigh food, you should be more discerning,
Achilles: "Desantis is getting record amounts of campaign cash from billionaires and corporations."
DeSantis has pulled well in over $200M and 94% of it is from all the millionaires/billionaires/wall streeters who opposed Trump's economic policies, immigration policies and China engagement strategy.
So, a question for everyone that says they want Trump's policies in a more palatable (to them) package:
Why are the opponents of Trump's policies so gung ho for DeSantis?
gadfly: Nobody in their right mind from the donkey party votes for Newsom as a presidential candidate.
PM: Correct. Many Dem voters are not in their right minds, but many many many will vote for Newsom - in fact he'll be sold to Gen Z as their 'Jack Kennedy'.
Also correct, no one will put Mr Trump on the High Court. Completely unnecessary since Mr Trump FIXED the Supreme Court - his finest achievement.
I don’t think anyone got my Trump-DeSantis Highlander spelling joke.
