"... because in Iran, when I was growing up, oh, my God, curly hair was a disaster. People mocked me, called people with big hair a specific name — it meant 'big-head woman' — to shame us. When I was taking an English course [to prepare to attend university in the United Kingdom], a woman asked me, 'You straighten your hair?' And then she took off my headscarf and said, 'My God, look at your head. What are you doing? You just straighten this part because when it’s out of your scarf, you want to show you have straight hair?' I said, 'Yeah, because I don’t have time. I straighten my hair just a bit.' And she told me, 'Don’t.' I went back to my mirror and she said, 'Just look at yourself.' At first I didn’t know why. She said: 'Just look at yourself and don’t make your hair straight. Just look deeply at your hair. You are going to love it.'"

My hair is naturally curly. I hated it my whole life. Used to do the straightening bit, but the older I get, and the longer I grow my hair, the more I love it.
I am guessing I should be thankful for my hair. I hit the jackpot in the life of hair- I still have all of mine at 56, it is easy to manage, and still has very little gray.
In America - the left persecute you for your beliefs.
I worked with a woman that was half Lebanese half Irish
And she'd show up with curly black hair, it was SO PRETTY, and it would ONLY be when she was in a hurry, a hadn't spent 45 minutes ironing it
Charlie Brown's friend Frieda wasn't paranoid. People really are hated for their naturally curly hair. I do believe the Peanuts kids stopped short of stoning big-headed Frieda though.
I assume this article references the woman who was killed for taking off her headscarf. That's persecution. I hope you clipped out a small section of a larger piece about political risk. This Mean Girl whine better not be the entire post.
Man it’s almost axiomatic that curly haired chicks want straight and straight hair chicks want curls. Good for the chick that set her straight so to speak.

Wendybar, 100%. My hair was wavy when I was young, became curly after I had my kids, and I straightened it for a few years before shrugging and deciding to embrace it. Now, women half my age tell me I have mermaid hair.
People are teased all the time for a multitude of things. Being fat, having a big nose, being skinny, having chicken legs, being bald, being hairy, being shy, being loud. Why is “ethnic look teasing” ANY different? It is not to the kids who do it. They are looking for any chink in other kid’s armor. Don’t be an emotional weakling.
You're supposed to look like good breeding stock. Anything that works.
As Kate has noticed before me, this is a studious exercise in missing the point.
The persecution is for showing any hair at all. The Democrat Regime's Favored People.
The people of Iran - lead by woman - are trying to obtain freedom and the Leader of the Free World is silent.
I want to know if Iran has bribed Biden. We know he’s been bribed by China and Ukraine. Can a grand jury be convened to investigate this? Will the AG do the right thing?
What a complete fucking disgrace. And the Fake News covers for this asshole.
Maybe Bob Woodward could investigate. Seems like it would be Big News that POTUS has been bribed by China, Ukraine and Iran.
But the Hero of Watergate is all fired up about the Trump Tapes.
Steve Sailer bait.
Written for people who have never seen, hung out with, or have any expectation of ever doing so, Iranians and/or visiting Iran.
Gell-Mann amnesia suggests most readers - esp. those who consider themselves "compassionate" and "good people" - will buy into this narrative without questioning.
After the past several years of media/newspaper lies about pretty much everything, go figure.
Here’s what it’s like to be persecuted for your hair
Just look what happened to Clarence Thomas
I've had straight hair all my life, except for about eight months after I had my stem cell transplant. I was disappointed when it went back to straight.
In 1979 the mullahs ended counterrevutionary protests with gunfire. They have done so several times since. There is nothing to stop them from similar behavioral modification of the populace now. The mullahs will go when they are the ones facing death.
This is junior high and high school stuff. I have five sisters, the curly haired ones wanted straights hair, the straight haired one wanted curly hair. Seems like they all went to bed in curlers and caps.
Iran? The Light Bringer Obama didn't give a shit, why should I.
