Recently, I stumbled across Todd Rundgren's Utopia's 1980 album Deface the Music. In the mid-1970s, the band was the proggiest of progressive rock, but this album was a Beatles homage. They made a great Beatlemania-style video for the album's opening song, "I Just Want To Touch You," back in the pre-MTV days. Enjoy!
There must be a good reason why euthanasia has not taken off quite like abortion on demand has. Why is it that, at least it appears this way to me, that the quality of life of a would be mother (as she sees it) seems sufficient to extinguish a life in embryo, but the quality of life, for both a caretaker and the invalid, is no match against the desire to be free of that lifetime care.
How do we arrive to such a clear distinction based on the same set of moral principles governing how we treat each other?
There must be something more than, well, Lem, that baby is not alive, and the invalid is. In the age of trans, how does that discrimination make sense?
How does a woman kill another woman back a long time ago, gets paroled, only to kill again and be jailed a second time, only to get paroled to... take a guess, kill a third time. She has been apprehended again. wtf?
Althouse has blogged it.
The story has a twist, obviously, but the NYT treats it like they, the NYT, is the straight man in a comedic farce.
I have started to get emails from campus people with their pronouns listed.
That got me to thinking--what are the available ones? Is there an official list? If I'm allowed to mix and match from the traditional array, like a Chinese restaurant menu, I'm thinking about "he/her/they." If I'm allowed to make up my own I like "fle/fef/fuh".
And insist that everyone memorize them. Until I change them.
I encountered a bit if interesting (and telling) electioneering this week in the run down to the AZ primaries. Some group has been putting up large, black campaign signs that bear the slogan "Blake Masters Will Militarize The Border!" in our part of town. I don't know who did it, but I guessing it was a group of lefties. I also suspect that the reaction from most of the local folk was; "Good!".
Over on the other side of town, near where I work, there was quite a salting of Kari Lake signs proclaiming that she was "Trump approved". Another group, again I suspect lefties, put out competing signs that were the same size, shape and color as the Lake signs, that read "Kari Lake Donated To Obama". I seriously doubt this influenced anyone as I suspect there are more Trump voters who voted for Obama than any of us could ever imagine.
This also leads me to believe that the AZ Democrat party has become extremely tone deaf.
My sometimes annoying local conservative radio show host, Jay Weber, said last Friday that Joementia testing negative so quickly after Pax proves Pax works and Covid is over. Monday he said yeah Biden tested positive again but has no symptoms. Hasn't brought it up since ;) The most annoying bit about Jay is he fairly routinely brags about always being right and says people really need to learn to admit when they're wrong....
It’s been over a week since TFG pledged that he would be filing a lawsuit against CNN. Trump said he would sue CNN for its coverage of the stolen election lies, demanding in a 282-page letter that the publication retract and remove articles describing his claims as the “Big Lie.”
Yet, instead of court documents being filed, Trump appears to be more preoccupied with begging followers to send in money to "support" the so far non-existent legal action. That's "FAKE" fundraising.
“I’m calling on my best and most dedicated supporters . . . to stand with me in my impending(sic) LAWSUIT against Fake News CNN.”
of course, in Indiana; 10 year old rape victims will STILL be able to get abortions The new law bans the procedure except in cases of rape, incest and to protect the life and physical health of the mother. The rape and incest exceptions only apply in the first 10 weeks post-fertilization.
wasn't it, Disney Corp? That was upset with Florida's Parental Notification Law? Didn't They SAY, that their problem with it, was that it was a "don't say gay" law? then who is THIS Disney? Disney+ Middle East aligns with censorship policies, ‘Lightyear’ won't stream on platform The decision stems from the platform not releasing Pixar’s "Lightyear" in the region, due to the film featuring a same-sex kiss. The Disney+ series "Baymax" will also not be released since it includes LGBTQ characters.
Serious Question.. WHICH area is More Anti Gay? The Florida Coast? or the Mid East?

There will be doctors who will specialize in submitting a form letter claiming woman's life is in danger. Similar to California's original medical marijuana law, where people literally lined up to get a prescription from a licensed physician.
So did Elsie Iwen Ebling personally have issues with buckthorn shrub? Or think that spot was sacred? https://news.wisc.edu/picnic-point-nicer-than-ever/

Utopia - I Just Want To Touch You
(If you find the screaming in the background annoying, you can find the album audio version on YouTube as well.)
You really should pack out your beer bottles.
Republicans are coming to Milwaukee. I think it's an unforced error.
Des Moines attempts to become Nebraska :(

Good old Elsie. About time she got some recognition.

Agreed.
Suppose that you discovered an adult male was watching little girls strip naked in a YMCA women's locker room. What would you do?
If your answer wasn't "ask if you can kiss her dick", you're a criminal bigot.

North--have you considered the possibility that it was the AZ GOPe folks who put up those signs?
It was a Republican primary. And they are pretty tone deaf.
that abortionist? who bragged about murdering a 10 year old's baby? wasn't she from Indiana?
i wonder if she'll be moving to Ohio?
Indiana becomes first state in nation to approve near-total abortion ban post Roe

IKR? But how did Milwaukee, or anywhere in WI, look friendlier than Tennessee?
Don't know who Elsie was, but pretty sure she was trans/homo phobic and racist full of white privilege.
Suggest you remove photo and avoid trouble.

MAGAs, lefties woulda busted the bottles
My understanding is that local politics was decisive in the Rs shunning Nashvile. (That's what I call it.)
The city council didn't like whatever deal was offered.

"You really should pack out your beer bottles."
I always thought that the Professor, IF she were to leave some bottles, they would be of excellent Wisconsin craft beers instead.
