"Thirty-one people affiliated with the white nationalist group Patriot Front were arrested near an annual LGBTQ+ event Saturday in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho..."

"The suspects were booked on suspicion of conspiracy to riot, Coeur d'Alene Police Chief Lee White said at an afternoon news conference.... White said police were made aware in recent days that a number of groups planned to disrupt Pride in the Park, an annual event highlighting civil rights struggles for the LGBTQ+ communities. Staffing was increased and awareness was heightened by the time dispatchers fielded a report of 20 people in a U-Haul vehicle Saturday afternoon, he said. The suspects wore masks, had shields, and 'looked like a little army,' the chief said, quoting the caller who reported the suspicious activity. Ten minutes after that 1:38 p.m. U-Haul report, police stopped the vehicle and a total of 31 people in 'similar attire' were arrested, White said.... One smoke grenade was found among the suspects' belongings...."

From "31 linked to white nationalist group arrested near Pride event in Idaho/The suspects, who were dressed similarly and allegedly had riot shields, were booked on suspicion of conspiring to riot, Coeur d'Alene police said" (NBC News).

Here's the Wikipedia article for Patriot Front:

Patriot Front is an American ethno-nationalist and neo-fascist hate group. Part of the broader alt-right movement, the group split off from the neo-Nazi organization Vanguard America during the aftermath of the Unite the Right rally in 2017. The group maintains an Americana aesthetic, utilizing imagery of American culture, patriotism, and other widely accepted traditional American values to promote its ideology....

Patriot Front is led by Thomas Ryan Rousseau, who was a teenager at the time he founded the group.

A person identified as "Thomas Ryan Rousseau" was one of the 31 who were arrested in Coeur d'Alene.

The Guardian reported on 28 January 2022 that more than 400 gigabytes of private Patriot Front chat logs... with the founder Thomas Rousseau writing "We are absolutely desperate for new people. We’ve been in the 220’s to 230’s membership rut for nearly a full year." The group can be seen attempting to inflate its numbers and importance, outlining plans to create fake social media accounts pretending to be bystanders to marches, and posting deceptive material on Twitter, Reddit and 4chan, as well as direct messaging traditional media outlets and rejoicing when it is mentioned in the news. The leaders frequently scold members for not participating in events.

They're getting a lot of publicity today.

This is the case with our 'epidemic' of White Supremacists. They are small groups. They are scattered. And while there are a few of them, they hardly amount to the numbers on the far extreme Left. Have you considered how the City of Portland has been annexed by Antifa?

Anyway- when Antifa or other Far Left groups gather for protests, the police are there to protect them, and give them boundaries. And sometimes they stay within those boundaries. But even if they don't, nothing much happens. If the media covers it at all. they cover it as if it's just another peaceful protest and hell, it's not only their right, but it's good and proper to be an activist doing activist things.

When a far Right group is out there it's a menace to society and arrests must be made.

This isn't about making things fair. If a far right group is out to cause trouble (IF is the key word here) they should be taken down. I would only ask the same of a group that has shown it can kill, destroy, burn, loot, and cause pain and mayhem. Antifa. Ruth Sent Us. Jane's Revenge, BLM. All of these groups have killed and/or caused major damage, ruined peoples lives, destroyed businesses.

There's been a ton of talk about how the far right is killing people and causing mayhem. How the far right is our nations greatest danger. But in reality that mayhem and killing almost always comes from the Left. Perhaps certain kinds of mayhem directed at certain people is approved mayhem? And there is a goal behind not just allowing it, but bankrolling it? Perhaps our Vice President might have some thoughts on that.

Suspicion of conspiracy to riot?

That's a new one on me. No weapons and one smoke bomb.

And to think just a few days ago some here were arguing that someone who traveled across the country heavily armed with the expressed intent of killing a Supreme Court Justice, and fled when he saw police committed no crime.

Robert Marshall said...

It sounds like they were equipped to instigate and receive a beating, not to administer one. Nothing said about any offensive weapons, unless you count a smoke grenade as one, which seems dubious. Clubs, knives, guns, none of those mentioned, and they certainly would have been if present. Just shields and masks.

So, maybe they hoped to provoke the Alphabet people into attacking, and thereby discrediting their 'rainbows and love' public persona? Make the other side riot?

Would the right policing approach have been to keep the two groups separate, and let them both have their say? How would the police have acted if the Patriot Front had been putting on an event in the park, and Antifa showed up to rumble?

Do we have different standards for policing different points of view?

Anyway, these Freedumb Fighters are too well organized to be real, all pretty buff and skinny, all in chinos and similar attire (down to face mask), all with that Biff-and-Tyler-like preppy sameness. Too conformist and way too organized to be real conservatives in other words, so it must be more live-action Cos-Play on the part of the hive, or maybe the Feds. Not sure I believe they're Feds though.

You know who else rents U-Hauls? Antifa ground support, that's who. Somebody gotta haul them bricks.

Drago said...

Robert Marshall: "Would the right policing approach have been to keep the two groups separate, and let them both have their say?"

Irrelevant.

This is about a political approach designed by the Feds to advance democratical political interests.

Robert Marshall: "How would the police have acted if the Patriot Front had been putting on an event in the park, and Antifa showed up to rumble"

In that case you'd have a literal blue-on-blue scenario since the Feds run both groups.

Rest assured that as we get closer to November that "Patriot Front" "white supremacist/nazi" crew (wink wink) will show up at a republican rally (in "support" of the republican candidate (wink wink)) and pull something that very much helps the democratical political narrative.

Guaranteed.

I would watch how the Feds position individual Patriot Front "members" in close proximity to actual republicans in the leadup to Nov....prior to those PF "members" being arrested in order to advance a "white supremacist" "conspiracy" narrative.

This stuff is extremely common in the many color revolutions the US govt has pulled off over the last 20/30+ years in other nations as well as the Hillary/Obama/Biden-led coup against Trump.

This is just a thought. Not an assertion. The Dems are getting worried. They stole the 2020 election, then proceeded to screw the pooch wherever they did anything. Highest inflation in 40 years. Massive new debt, with more on the way, with FJB’s promise to pay off his backers by discharging their student debt, gas over $5 a gallon, over double what it was when he was elected, massively screwed up departure from Afghanistan, leaving hundreds of thousands of small arms with the Taliban, shortages in critical goods increasing, idiotic vaccine and masking mandates, that is helping to destroy the effectiveness of our military, wide open borders, with criminals and dangerous drugs streaming in, getting involved in a shooting war with nuclear armed Russia, etc. They essentially did exactly the opposite of what Trump was doing, just because they could, and, of course, Orange Man Bad. And he was doing a lot right. The Dems have screwed things up maybe even worse than if they had been trying. FJB is taking the rap, and his approval ratings are in free fall as a result, because his job is to rein in their crazies, and that is far beyond his competence these days.

The Dems are very likely to get shellacked this coming November, very likely losing both houses of Congress - the Senate by maybe 5 seats, but the House massively, right now >50 seats is probable. Maybe 70 seats. This will, if nothing else be a major rebuke of the ruling Dems in DC, with Pelosi and Schumer helping to screw everything up as much as they can.

So, what is their answer to this? Inventing a White Nationalist threat. They fabricated the J-6 “insurrection”, and now are trying, so far unsuccessfully, so sell it on TV. And the FBI, etc, hating Trump at the top, is doing their part, by instigating and fabricating the White Nationalist movement. I think that one thing that they do worry about is one for real, except that it wouldn’t be white - race ambivalent Nationalist. They worry because there are hundreds of millions of guns in private hands in this country, enough to arm every man, woman, and child in this country, and the gun safes across the country are staying locked. With every point of inflation, billion dollars in frivolous federal debt, $1 of gasoline prices, the tender for a national conflagration gets that much thicker, and readier to burn.

So, I think it very possible that the FBI, etc are trying desperately to keep the lid on this, by constantly showing that you can’t get away with revolution or insurrection. Never mind that they are instigating and organizing much of it, just for that effect. Except that they repeat the same play, over and over again. The giveaway this time was the uniforms, and, really, the single smoke bomb. A bunch of fit guys wearing the same outfit just blares “Feds”. If you want to see what the real right really dresses and looks like, just look at video from 1/6/21 at the Capital. Let me add that another give away is that this supposed protest occurred in Coeur d’Alene, ID. Nope. The White Nationalists have been gone from there for a couple decades. The upper ID Panhandle has gotten insanely expensive over the last several years. CDA, in particular, is now very rich. Moreover, it still has a western libertarian vibe - they will prominently wear their AR-15s on slings to keep AntiFA and BLM back in Spokane, but aren’t going to riot against a Pride parade. The Dems and their Fed luckiest, need to update their playbook - you need Bible Thumpers for that type of protest, and you can find them a bunch of other places, and esp across the South, before tony CDA, ID.

I saw this on several places on Reddit. It looks…suspicious.

Also, have Patriot Front ever actually rioted? I would think there would be plenty of videos of that. Whenever I’ve seen video of Patriot Front, it’s always some parading around not really doing much. A kind of typical ‘protest’ with signs and stuff.

All in all if Patriot Front really we’re the ‘neo-Nazis’ (or whatever term you want to use to describe the organization, as it were) they are not really causing much harm. I haven’t read the Wikipedia page as I would likely find the description OTT not matching with reality.

AA, you are correct. There is no crime of "Suspicion ... to do anything". Especially suspicion of conspiracy, itself an inchoate offense.

Armed with reasonable suspicion of a crime, law enforcement may briefly detain and question someone regarding their activities. With further and additional reasonable suspicion that the individual may be armed with a weapon, the police may frisk the person for weapons.

That's it. Effecting an arrest requires probable cause of a crime, a much higher standard than reasonable suspicion.

If those shields are the same model as pictured during a Washington DC "Patriot" march, we need to know for sure.

They're pretty cool, actually. The size and curved shape of a movie-hero "Captain America" shield, not the more practical Ivanhoe or Julius Caeser style shields. ( https://execdefense.com/product_categories/riot-shields/ ) Very clear plexiglass, so you can cower behind it and still see what's coming. I don't know if it can be tossed like a Frisbee (again, Cpt America style) but just the shape suggests that it might be such a fantasy offensive weapon.

They're marketed via police equipment channels. They're really expensive. Not the sort of things, as far as I can tell, the average citizen walks into Walmart or even a "Sports Authority" store to buy off the shelf. Having enough so all participants in the march are identically equipped (as in the DC march) seems a bit overly organized for a grass roots team.

And do the shields have the maker's offered logo. ? https://execdefense.com/products/round-circular-anti-riot-shield/

As always I sneer at journalists who do NOT follow up obvious clues to trace the origins and directions of events. Where are you, Lois Lane?

Just to maybe clarify. The putative crime was the inchoate crime of conspiracy to riot. And maybe attempted rioting. But conspiracy is maybe better here.

Now for a humorous side jaunt. A couple decades ago, I was ticketed in PHX for essentially attempted leaving the freeway other than at an official exit. The DPS officer believed that I was trying to cut across a median to exit I-17, to get on the access road, since the freeway was stopped. There is an offense under AZ law of actually leaving the freeway like he thought I was doing, but not for attempting to do so. He used (attempted) “exiting” on the ticket, which wasn’t a crime, and not (completed) “exited” which was. AZ has a system where inchoate crimes like attempting and conspiracy to commit crimes are penalized one level down from the primary crime. Thus, conspiracy to commit a Class 1 Misdemeanor is a Class 2 Misdemeanor, etc. Except that the underlying crime here was a traffic infraction, and there is nothing lower. The examples I gave were the idiocy of charging attempted speeding, or conspiracy to run a stop sign. Lost in the Justice Court, since the JP there hadn’t been to LS, and didn’t understand what an “inchoate” crime was. Reversed and remanded on appeal by a judge who had gone to LS. Retried, and lost again to another JP. Same judge heard the appeal and wrote a three page opinion scathingly explaining that when he reversed and remanded, that didn’t mean retry the case. It meant make it go away by dismissing the charges.

I assume you're talking about the one near Cumming. Was Tom Wolfe on point in suggesting the whole magillah was orchestrated by a real estate developer trying to drive down land prices because other developers saw the potential of the area before he did.

Yep, it wasn't just feds involved. There were lots of nasty parts on the elephant.

Oprah and Al Sharpton helicoptered in and made millions off it.

Scapegoating is a profitable business. Meanwhile, their cities were littered with the bodies of unimportant black murder victims. Hags, both of them.

I literally just saw film of the CDA proud boys arrest on Meet the Press.
Good god. Filmed only from behind, for no apparent reason. Every man with identical white gaiter-style face mask still pulled up, caps down, and dark glasses still on, even though they were already kneeling and zip-tied. All very fit men roughly age 30.
Might as well have had FBI in eight inch letters on their backs.
