"Many Venezuelans seeking a better existence have taken a difficult route over land, including traversing on foot the Darién Gap, a treacherous, roadless stretch of jungle..."

"... in eastern Panama and northwestern Colombia. In the first five months of the year, more than 32,000 migrants, including over 16,000 Venezuelans, have made the crossing, according to Panama’s National Migration Service...."

From "A Caravan of Migrants Is Heading Toward the U.S. Border/Some 6,000 migrants, many of them from Venezuela, set off from southern Mexico last week as leaders from across the Americas met in Los Angeles to discuss issues including migration" (NYT).

Young men make up a large number of those in the caravan.... Most of those in the caravan are poor and hoping for better opportunities in the United States. But some are also fleeing violence and persecution, including a group of L.G.B.T.Q. migrants who described the discrimination they faced in Venezuela and on the road....

"In Venezuela, and in the neighborhoods of Caracas, we’re not accepted," said [Yeider] Rodríguez... We have to repress ourselves, to pretend to be something we’re not."

ADDED: There's an implication that the U.S. should give asylum to people who are saying what many U.S. citizens say about their own experience in the U.S.

Somehow the migrant movement just got hijacked by the Trans movement. Even the illegal immigrants are not immune to this. Is nothing sacred?

The contrast between affluent, downtown Panama City and rural Panama is striking.

It was also strange to get there and realize that something I'd known about all my life, the Panama Canal Zone, was no more.

Most are economic migrants not eligible for asylum, but have been coached on what to say to US immigration and border officials. I'm starting to see them joining the ranks of panhandlers on the streets of Chicago.

With all the people traversing the Darien Gap, it's a well worn path by now.

Don't they know how RACIST and hateful America is?? Don't they know that we hate brown skin?? That is what the left keeps repeating over and over and over again. I don't get why these illegals would want to come to such a terrible hateful RACIST place.

It's been that was in Venezuela for decades.

What changed?

The joke's on them. Wait until they get here and find they're still in Venezuela.

IOW, most intend to abuse our asylum laws.

"including a group of L.G.B.T.Q. migrants who described the discrimination they faced"

If the U.S. admits anyone who faces "discrimination," that's the end of us.

"In Venezuela, and in the neighborhoods of Caracas, we’re not accepted,"

So, why come to the U.S., specifically?

All articles like this expose the lies that surround "asylum." What happens when an entire country is forced to live a lie?

To enter the country they should have to answer one question...........What is a woman?

Wanted to say the exact same thing. We are evil people, here. Why would anyone come to the US?!

Maybe they don't watch CNNMSNBCABC? Maybe they should subscribe to WaPo?

Wait a minute...! Increase WaPo readership (sic) by distributing South of the border!

If these were armed troops in civilian clothing, how much different would they look?

And how many of these are armed?

"We have to repress ourselves..to pretend to be something we're were not"

Isn't this really just the human condition? Many of us do this to be accepted in our neighborhoods. Moving from a "university neighborhood" bubble to the real world was a hard lesson in "no, no one cares about your interests, and if you talk about them, you are a weirdo and a persona non grata at neighborhood events." So you repress yourself, and learn to nod politely and pretend to care about some little league game.

We have it better than ever now, because you CAN find community with other weirdos around the world online.

But if you move across continents in the hope of finding a magical neighborhood where you never have to repress any part of you, you'll be disappointed.

On the other hand, at least in America you don't have to eat rats and pigeons. McDoubles are freedom.

Those people need to stay and clean up their own countries. How are those places ever going to improve if people just pick up and move when the going gets tough?

The same thing happened when liberals backed labor and environmental arbitrage for democratic leverage and the Green deal. That said, emigration reform to mitigate the progress of immigration reform and collateral damage at both ends of the bridge and throughout. Oh, and close the abortion chambers by choice, Choice, a delegated one-child policy through religious ("ethical") sanction.

America has enough troubles to deal with, why add to the mountain?

If these Venezuelans need asylum, let it be somewhere in South America.

I was thinking along the same lines. What are the odds that at least some of them are covert operatives for the current Venezuelan regime?

Also, isn't Brazil LGBTQ-friendly? It's a shorter walk.

You have to give them credit: asylum-seeking refugees (aka, economic immigrants in disguise) have a keen sense for what sort of hardship BS is working best these days, with the progressives who are running (or is it 'ruining') our border in the age of Biden.

They all turn out to be LGBTQ, just in time for Pride month! Break out the rainbows and the unicorns, it's Caravans-in-Drag Story Time!

An implication, you say? No. There is the idea among those coming here that in this country people have rights that are respected by government and society, and that means you don't get beaten or jailed for being different than the rest of the population.

Odd that they have a correct understanding of how the US is supposed to work, while actively engaging in behavior - illegal immigration - that will result in the US not working that way.
