"You will return from the Chechen Republic a completely different person Elona, that is, Elon."

Said the Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov, quoted in "Chechen leader advises ‘effeminate’ Elon Musk not to fight Vladimir Putin" (NY Post).

On Monday, Musk pitched a bizarre offer to fight the Russian president to settle the war in Ukraine. “Elon Musk, a word of advice. Don’t measure your strength against that of Putin’s. You are in two completely different leagues,” Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov wrote in a lengthy and sarcastic Telegram post. After dubbing Musk “effeminate,” Kadyrov suggested that the Tesla founder train at the Russian Special Forces University, Akhmat Fight Club and the Chechen State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company to prep for the hypothetical match.

If we're just playing "Quién es más macho?", let's take a look at  Ramzan Kadyrov:

If we're just making Hans-and-Franz-level jokes about names — Elon becomes Elona — then Kadyrov needs to worry that he'll become Ladyrov. Ma'am-zam Ladyrov.

But here in America, we show complete respect for erstwhile men taking on a feminine identity, so the Chechan leader is completely out of touch with American culture and how to insult us.

By the way, Hans and Franz goes back to the late 80s/early 90s — it was mocking concern about masculinity more than a quarter century ago — and Hans and Franz itself is way out date.

"Quién es más macho?" was a brilliant SNL sketch on a 1979 episode, with Bill Murray running a quiz show where the contestants were Gilda Radner and Ricky Nelson. That was 6 years before Ricky died and a decade before Gilda died. "Who is more macho?" was a joke 40 years ago.

Which is why America won't be winning any major wars until this 'trend' is corrected.

The rest of the world is laughing at us and our 'Women of the Year' who wear dresses with cock and balls tucked underneath.

Putin and the sphere of Russian influence are in a kind of cultural time capsule.

Both Musk and Putin have martial arts training, Musk in Brazilian ju-jitsu and Putin in judo. If they fought hand to hand, Musk would win easily — judo is more of a sport than a fighting discipline. But Putin would make it a gun fight, do I’d send Randi Rogers instead.

So what are you saying, Althouse? Is Kadyrov gonna have the Eighties ask for their jokes back?

I don't think he's "out of touch" at all.

Only on paper.

Does anybody remember the PSA-type ad on TV in the late 1960s or early 1970s where two national leaders duke it out in a field, presumably in front of their grunting cabinet advisors? The message being: what if international conflict were decided this way instead of war? At least that's how I remember it.

Can't find it anywhere.

Wasn’t?

Wikipedia: Currently, Chechnya is now under the rule of its Russian-appointed leader: Ramzan Kadyrov.

Maybe he shouldn’t make threats against a guy who is capable of dropping a satellite on his head?

There are very few private citizens in America who have the capability to conduct an orbital bombardment against their enemies. Elon Musk is one of them.

Plus Musk has banged a lot more models than the Chechen thug.

I remember hearing this idea all my life: Instead of sending soldiers to die in war, wouldn't it be great to have the leaders in a boxing match? I don't know if I saw it as an ad or if that would have been the first time I saw it, but it was an oft-repeated meme. I think by the 70s it had been said so often that it would have been embarrassingly trite to say it. So, to me, it wasn't a "genius" lateral-thinking play by Musk.

So, the professor isn't a big MMA fan? My meaning, SNL is not necessarily an accurate indicator of where most of the country stands on cultural issues.

I have the feeling Elon Musk is pretty unaffected by taunts like this, thanks to his unique traits (weirdness, one of them) and obvious success. I think it would bug Trump but he'd come out Queens-style, sarcastic and over-the-top, but - again, I think - well short of Biden's overt "I wish I could take him out behind the bleachers and beat him up" bluster. (Or of Al Gore's cringeworthy onstage makeout session with poor Tipper.)

I also have the feeling that most men, even most American left-leaning men, do not like being taunted like this, their respect for erstwhile men embracing feminine identities notwithstanding. When the rubber hits the road, most men don't like being told they're viewed as girlymen. I don't know which is worse: if other men view them this way, or if women do. Gentlemen commenters?

I'm going to go out on a limb and venture that even among trans women, there'd be more chin music in response to taunts about girliness in a combative setting than if instead they were taunted with, say, their incongruous broad shoulders or Adam's apples. They were, after all, born male, with all that that evolutionary heritage entails.

SNORT.

Whoever wrote this has been assiduously ignoring the resistance across America to surrendering to this psychotic horseshit. That would include YOU, Althouse.

Ask any grunt what they think of Thoroughly Modern Millie and his Belmont Hill School classmate Rachel Levine, and you'll see how "we" think of such FUBAR people.

Ask all the women who see themselves driven out of competitive sports and jobs by these third-rate guys who see a chance to cut the line and move to the front.

Complete respect, my ass.

Ironically, from what I've read, Kadyrov has his job because he was the weakest of the Chechens. Putin elevated him because he had no independent power base and could not challenge Putin for leadership.

Once they got to grappling, I'm guessing Putin knows every single KGB trick of how to immobilize/kill an attacker.

I don't think they teach that in jiu-jitsu...

Reminds me right away of the Friends storyline with Jon Favreau (before he became the savior of movie genres). He was a very rich guy who gets a sudden passion to be a UFC fighter.

Nope. NYT readers, academics, and Gen Xers respect girly men. Not many others. The Marxist left is trying to destroy this country, from the inside, one institution after another. Get outside Madison and NYC, you really don’t see it that much in this country, and it is respected even less.

“Which is why America won't be winning any major wars until this 'trend' is corrected.”

Agreed.

“The rest of the world is laughing at us and our 'Women of the Year' who wear dresses with cock and balls tucked underneath.”

That was absurd. Guy puts on a dress, is made an admiral, and becomes Woman of The Year. For what? The willingness to cross dress in public to get ahead in their career?

These are mostly gamma males and females, with low probabilities of acquiring a decent mate of the opposite sex. With the destruction of the American family as the center of our culture, the alpha males are getting laid probably more than ever, by more women, and maybe even the betas. This is led from our universities, that have almost all been captured by the Marxists, and the drones they turn out get entrenched there in gender studies departments and diversity administration posts. This isn’t being done because it is popular, or well accepted, but because it is one step in destroying this country from within.

FWIW; Ramzan Kadyrov looks just like a Jewish kid I went to high school with.

I'm sure he'd love to hear about that.

Musk has FU money, and FU power like no one else in this country. If the leftist retards running this country don’t like his positions, they can’t really do much against him. They stupidly banned Putin and are trying to take his money. He responded by sanctioning FJB and Hunter (I thought that hilarious) Biden and Crooked Hillary, AND declared that they wouldn’t take any Americans into space (and the space station) any more. No problem. Musk is doing it already, and more cheaply. If the leftist retards running this country screw with his space program too much, and he just moves it. And the bureaucrats tasked with destroying his car company are driving his cars to work, or dreaming that they could afford too. We spend half the year here in a nice suburb of Phoenix (right next to N Scottsdale). Teslas are THE status car in our subdivision. In the three houses right around us on this block, there are 4 of them in 3 garages. The great thing in AZ is that they provide green energy virtue signaling license plates (blue sky with clouds - which is funny, because those clouds are why their stupid climate models don’t work). And 90% of the cloud plates in this neighborhood are on Teslas (Teslae?).

From what I know about Chechen's - I'd take their advice on fighting. I didn't know Musk had challenged Putin to a fight. Why not shotguns at 10 paces?

Jefferson's Revenge said...

I am not so sure Musk would win. Don't know much about his athletic background but winning a fight involves reacting to getting hit and being able to aggressively be violent rather than any specific athletic trait. Shrugging off the pain of a punch or being thrown to the ground is something you learn by being punched or being thrown to the ground. If you've ever seen two untrained, non-violent types fight, it's basically a series of pushes and bad swings from a distance. A trained fighter has learned that getting hit is a temporary price to be paid. Putin, from both his early career and his judo experience, may be much more competitive than many think. There is nothing that trains you better for a fight than being in fights.

Tim, if you know of a different history of Kadyrov's rise, I'm happy to learn about it.

In Brazilian ju-jitsu they certainly do. Grappling, pain holds, choke holds are part of the discipline, along with throws, kicks, and punches.

Lurker21 said...

I'm not sure about that. Maybe America and Western Europe expect non-macho men to wear dresses and complete their transitions and subject "girly men" who don't go trans to the same kind of macho razzing that appears to be Kadyrov's forte.

American Indians were certainly into war, hunting and other macho things but tolerated the twospirited. Possibly some other male-dominated cultures were similar, tolerating eunuchs and catamites who withdrew from "toxic masculinity" and its competitions and reserving their scorn for men they judged weak who were seen as losing competitors.
