I think DeSantis will run against Trump in the Republican Party's primary race and will beat him.
DeSantis will be the Republican Party's candidate in the 2024 general election and will be elected President.
=====
Beware!
In 2015, I predicted that Scott Walker would be elected President.
Trump is pretty unlistenable these days. He's on the wrong crusade.
He should be against obscure elections, not his last loss in particular.
Too soon to know what Trump will do. He may choose to be a king maker. We'll see if that works next November.
Who knows how accurate that poll is? But if Biden could garner as much as 20% in such a match-up (and I think he can), I fear for this country. That anyone supports this lying, demented, grifting, groping, hair-sniffing, blustering old fool truly boggles the mind.
I agree with rhhardin. I hope Trump rights himself between now and the 2024 Iowa caucuses.
If Trump runs, he sucks all the oxygen (and cash) out of the room. DeSantis is young enough to wait 4 years.
But the REAL question is: Is it possible to have a fair election for president now, as even asking about vote fraud is now considered off-limits.
>>In 2015, I predicted that Scott Walker would be elected President.
Here is my Althouse forum prediction from October of 2020.... pretty darn close! :)
>>No, DanTheMan.
>>Biden will not win.
>>Persistence can be a virtue.
>>But foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of your mind.
Emerson insults aside, I hope you are correct, but stand by my prediction.
I believe if only real votes were counted, Trump would win.
But the D Fraud machine took the day off last time, and they won't be making that mistake this time.
We are told that "election day" will drag on for at least a month, that Biden should never concede no matter what, and that the rules are being changed all over the country to make sure "late" ballots can be counted. They also tell us they will use the military to evict Trump from the White House, as if this is just something that happens from time to time.
The D's are telling us they are going to steal the election, by any means necessary.
I believe them.
And CNN, NBC, CBS, ABC, the WaPo and the NYT will break their necks looking the other way. Twitter will shut down Trump's account the minute Biden declares himself the winner, and Facebook will block any mention of a contrary point of view.

Trump needs to sit back and let the primaries play out without him.
There's a good chance DeSantis will win.
Then endorse him heavily.
Impossible. Biden is the most popular president in US history, just look at the vote totals. Clearly, this poll is rigged.
"In 2015, I predicted that Scott Walker would be elected President."
That's just about as accurate as your summaries of Russian/Ukrainian history.
Donald will get us another Dem if he runs.
Could get us another Dem just by campaigning for someone else.
I like Donald; but he's box office poison.
Trump could be a very effective sniper. DeSantis leaves who behind him in FLA? An Important state going forward.
Who knows what Trump will do? It seems to me he will be too old and he is too preoccupied with 2020. He'd do better as a kingmaker who spends election season holding rallies while a more serious politician, someone like DeSantis, heads the ticket.
"he's box office poison."
Exactly. Toxic. But enough people may like it.
Of course, my quasi-prediction way back was that Oprah had the best chance to be the Dem nominee, if she wanted. I still think she could clear the field, including Joe and Kamala. It would solve a lot of Dem problems.
Wait 'til people get a dose of $5/gallon gas as the national average. California is already at $6.25. We'll be at a national average of $5+ within a few weeks, and that's due to things taking place before Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Cali will be at $8/gallon in no time.
18 months ago we were energy independent. We were an energy exporter. Now Europe and the US actually pay the Middle East AND Russia for energy. 18 months ago oil was at $30/barrel. Putin was hurting. He was not invading anything as he didn't have the money to do so. Now? One short year into Biden/Democrats and Putin is going to make Billions this year. Oil is at $100/barrel and climbing (and these numbers aren't even yet affected by the invasion). And Europe? What do they do for energy going forward? What do WE do? Ask AOC if she could lend us her Windmill? Jesus.
The key is this: Most Americans have no idea how momentous it was for Trump to have gotten us energy independent. How important to our own freedom and in controlling Putin, even a little bit. Now? Biden is owned by the Ukrainians and Russians, both. He's been on the payroll of both of them. Mix that in with his astute knack for reading foreign policy (sarcasm) and we're heading into an unknown territory.
But don't worry. The new season of The Masked Singer is supposed to be the best one yet!
Hypothetical 2024 match-up can only produce hypothetical numbers.
What a crock!! Does anyone remember voting for Biden??

Most of the country does not follow politics like you do.
Desantis is more popular than Trump amongst people who like politics and like politicians.
Most people in this country think politicians suck.
Desantis will not draw the working class and minorities like Trump will.
And I am liking Kari Lake better than Desantis anyways.
I repeat that I think Ron DeSantis would make a great President and has shown, as Governor of Florida, how to think on his feet, get command of the facts/data, and make decisions based on those, not polling numbers. That said, I'd hate to lose him as our Governor because I fear the follow up is not going to be good. Especially now that we've imported half the states of New Jersey, New York, and Connecticut down here. We really do need to import more Cubans than New Yorkers.
But there are other bright people out there who could do the job and to it well, such as Sen. Tom Cotton. The problem is that these days both parties have followers who demand purity of thought and comment. And I have to tell you- there is no one out there who will agree with everything you want, or say everything you agree with.
Just understand the stakes and vote for the most competent person who can also manage to communicate. Honestly, after 4 years of Biden's mumblings and Harris's word salads, it'll be refreshing to get an English speaking President.
Trump is more likely to be his parties nominee in 2024 than Biden.
Pretty funny watching people on this thread slag Trump.
He outperformed Reagan in every way.
I doubt very much that Desantis could handle the pressure that Trump has already withstood.
I doubt even more that Desantis would even try to drain the swamp. He is a career politician.
Achilles: "And I am liking Kari Lake better than Desantis anyways." ???
She hasn't won anything yet. Hasn't done anything yet in her life that would merit a Presidential seat. Not saying she couldn't, but getting something done other than reading teleprompters on TV would be a start. Though she does have the communication thing down. She knows how to work a camera. That's a plus.
And before someone says that Trump didn't do anything either, think twice. He did more in his life before he was President than most people on earth do in a lifetime.
Biden declared half of America as traitors and is now upset that nobody wants to go fight his war for Ukrainian graft. At this rate, Hunter is going to have to unload one of his crack houses. After all, Ukraine had Joe's "word as a Biden" that Putin would be as skeered as a whipped dog of him.

AND more for the working class than any other President in my lifetime. AND above all, he exposed the corruption from within Congress, the Intel Agencies, Pentagon, and the Media.
Alleged poll results like this serve only to encourage Trump to run, which is what the pollster and its masters and the media want. It's a trap! One that Trump will happily toy with.

I don't really think Desantis has done much either. Nothing that applies to what we would want a president in DC to do.
I said I was liking her better than Desantis is all. He looks malleable to me.
And before someone says that Trump didn't do anything either, think twice. He did more in his life before he was President than most people on earth do in a lifetime.
I agree. Trump is 10x more qualified than Desantis ever will be unless Desantis leaves government service and does something real.
And before someone says that Trump didn't do anything either, think twice. He did more in his life before he was President than most people on earth do in a lifetime.
True, plus he understood economics and how to use sanctions. Unlike Biden, he knew what buttons to push with Putin, such as fracking and building our pipelines, not his.
Agree with wendybar. Trump did care about and actually help the working class and did expose the awfulness of the ruling class.
Didn't Biden promise his party and constituents to only serve one term then step down in favor of someone not an old white man?
"I think DeSantis will run against Trump in the Republican Party's primary race and will beat him."
I don't think DeSantis will run if Trump does, although he will be a VP possibility and the R to beat in 2028.
What PM said.
Trump had his chance. He's too narcissistic and old to make any lasting difference. He was extremely valuable for exposing the bureaucracy and media as corrupt and incompetent, but that's about it.
Desantis strikes me as a very competent politician. And his tone is Trumpian. He's got my vote if he runs.
Desantis / Gabbard 2024.
Emerson is a school for performing arts…
"X had his chance. He's too narcissistic and old to make any lasting difference."
X in {Trump, Biden, Romney, Sanders, Clinton, Obama, Beto, ... (I can do this all day)}
Two point shift is statistically meaningless. Just say that Trump has a slight lead, before and now.
I think that Trump's biggest problem is that he isn't a sociopath, when it is maybe required for the job.
Looking at this clinically there are two things to consider:
1) Biden will not run in 2024. His dementia will be obvious by then. It won't be Harris either. Look for an agreed upon outsider who Obama can anoint and who has no connection to Biden or Hillary. Mark Cuban? One of the anonymous Dem governors?
2) I thought Trump was an excellent President but was outsmarted in the electoral process. Everyone knew the election would be stolen and he did not prepare the ground game to prevent it despite the warnings given. The risks of him losing, not against Biden, but against a photogenic outsider who beats him among Independents is too large for me. I like DeSantis. He took the risk and the beating for COVID policies that turned out to be right. The bravery of Scott Walker but a better national candidate.
DeSantis's bio reads like every other politician out there. No way. Plus, ditching Trump for DeSantis would tell every anti-Trump establishment hack that their tactics worked. No, Trump is the only one I'll support in '24.
What's worse than a loser is one who cries about it. Even if it was unfair.
My local election board sent me a mail in ballot with no ballot, only the return envelope. The ballot is attached to the envelope and had to be ripped off. The Democrats are going all in on cheating. Even in small local elections. Beware.
"What's worse than a loser is one who cries about it. Even if it was unfair."
Agreed. Hillary, Gore, and Kerry should man up and deal with their losses. Maybe move on, to coin a phrase.
As far as I can tell from what YouTube is pushing on me from Fox, everybody on the right is going for cheap points. Nobody's talking structure. Structure is what gets the even the wrong people to do the right things.
Cheap points is always jusk luck of the draw, even with your replacement good people.
"Agree with wendybar. Trump did care about and actually help the working class and did expose the awfulness of the ruling class."
Pretty sure they exposed themselves.

Please expound on the difference between Mitt Romney and Donald Trump.
I don't buy it. The left manipulate everything. This is a push to get Biden to step aside. He will... There's only so long the handlers can prop up the Potemkin puppet.
Pretty funny watching people on this thread slag Trump.
He outperformed Reagan in every way.
That's not an unreasonable point except that:
1. Trump is not the incumbent. He is a terrible debater with impulsivity issues. Reagan exuded confidence and leadership.
2. Reagan was transformative in making conservative libertarianism an acceptable alternative to mainstream liberal thought. Trump made inroads with working class Whites, Blacks and Hispanics, but Reagan made a bigger overall political impact.
3. Reagan won against an incumbent POTUS (likable but incompetent). Trump ran against one of the most unlikable Democrat candidates ever. Again, Reagan outperformed Trump.
Just for the love of God no. Still holding out hope Desantis gets so popular, the orange man decides to try and be the king of social media instead of seeking (and almost certainly failing) to get a 2nd term. We don't need a rehash of the 2020 election anymore than we need a 2016 rematch.
Achilles I agree that Trump represents something a lifelong government employee (which DeSantis is) cannot. I also agree with Wendybar's statement that Trump did, "...more for the working class than any other President in my lifetime. AND above all, he exposed the corruption from within Congress, the Intel Agencies, Pentagon, and the Media." Although to that I would say, except for Ronald Reagan.
To me these are the most important things about Trump. He refused to bend knee to those people and things that everyone is always expected to bend toward. He called them out for what they were. He spanked them like the little brats they were. But they won. They beat him in the end. At the very least, they got him out of office (legally or not- he's out).
So now what? Trump will be 4 years older. DeSantis, while a government lifetimer, is still a man who gets individual rights, freedom. And unlike Trump, he knows the ways of Congress, knows politician-speak, and knows the laws, is as smart or smarter than anyone in the room with him, and knows the ways of our media. How do we find a blend of the raw street fighter that Trump is, with the politcal saavy of DeSantis? Who is that person?
Reagan was indisputably more valuable to this Country than Trump. To think otherwise betrays a personal bias or an utter ignorance of the 1980's.
"He outperformed Reagan in every way."
Except for being a one-termer, but other than THAT Mrs. Lincoln, how did you enjoy the play?

Which one was better on Immigration?
Which one was better on ending wars?
Which one was better raising working class wages?
I will give Reagan the nod on great speeches. That is about it.

You just aren't going to get the perfect person. Jesus did his thing a while ago.
The thing you learn while in the Army and in particular Ranger Battalion is that the best people are very imperfect.
People whinge and complain about Trump and how he lost and blah blah blah.
Desantis would have been absolutely destroyed by what happened to Trump. He would have little chance standing up to that kind of pressure.
And if he doesn't face that kind of pressure and wins that is even worse.
Ending wars? Are you a 20-something who has no recollection of everything from the Iran hostages to the fall of the Berlin Wall? Ending the Cold War was kind of a big deal. Pretending Trump was anything but what he was, a crass populist who struck a vein of voter discontent, is just ahistorical and foolish.
Only four points after the disaster that's been Biden's first year? Doesn't speak well of Trump...or, for that matter, Americans in general.
Let's keep in mind that the hypothetical matchup posited by our esteemed polling agency is exactly that - hypothetical. Something to get clicks that has about as much chance of occurring as my becoming the head coach of the Chicago Blackhawks. One or both of them will not be able to run in 2024.
Those of you who are eager to see Ron DeSantis running in 2024, are you sure his wife Casey will be in remission by the Iowa caucuses in that year? I don’t think Ron DeSantis will be like John Edwards and ignore the needs of his wife as she fights cancer do that he can run for President.
They had a hard time finding a coherent clip of Biden's speech for Bloomberg, he's stuttering and fumbling for words.

Reagan hastened the fall of the Soviet Union. But in the end they defeated themselves.
I believe he did good things here. Reagan was a great President and probably the second best president we had in recent history.
But the Abraham accords were at least on the same level of accomplishment.
The foes there were intractable. This was much more difficult than spending a bunch of money on defense. Democrats don't mind spending more money. Getting several Muslim countries to recognize Israel and end the perpetual violence and grift there was an undervalued achievement.
It goes without saying I don't expect you to really engage any of my points. I was alive when reagan was President and remember what happened. People venerate Reagan too much. He was not even a good enough president to reveal the Bushes for what they were.

Being alive is not the same as being an adult who was aware of the times.
With all due respect, you just don't get it when it comes to Reagan.
BTW, he picked Bush for the same reason that Trump picked Pence.
Favorably comparing Reagan to Trump is hardly venerating him. The Abraham Accords were of course a Trump success. But to compare him to Reagan is silly. Different scale entirely.
But don't worry. The new season of The Masked Singer is supposed to be the best one yet!

I hope so. DeSantis is 43, I don't think the Democrats have anyone around that age that would be a reasonable candidate. Their leadership would look too old running against him and you can be sure that they're not going to run one of The Squad. They're too inexperienced and a presidential run by one of them would probably wreck the entire party.
But the Abraham accords were at least on the same level of accomplishment.

Nonsense with a touch of TDS. My first vote was for Nixon. I remember the 80s well. Reagan stood up to the Soviets and followed Carter's lead with Volker to snuff inflation for a generation. He had a Democrat Congress that let him win the Cold War as long he let them spend all they wanted. He failed on immigration, led astray by Chamber of Commerce Republicans.
Whoever said he chose Bush like Trump chose Pence was right. Reagan was a wild eyed radical to the country club Republicans. Dole cost him the Senate by delaying the tax cuts until 1982. Trump understood economics better than any president of modern times and he was strong enough to fight off the idiotic Democrats until massive fraud took him down.
Which one was better on Immigration?

is there brain power for this in R establishment? and being establishment will they have offered it?
it is foolish to think only D wanted Trump destroyed!
Meanwhile, Mike K, in the Bush era, Trump was proudly donating to and supporting the Clintons and every other Democrat. He was never a conservative, he was an opportunist who found his lane and rode in it. I voted for him. Comparing him to Reagan is like comparing the Jaguars to the Patriots.
"I went in yesterday, and there was a television screen, and I said, 'This is genius,'" he said. "Putin declares a big portion of the Ukraine — of Ukraine — Putin declares it as independent. Oh, that’s wonderful."
"I said, 'How smart is that?' He's going to go in and be a peacekeeper," added Trump, who regularly praised and sought close ties with Putin during his time in office. "That's the strongest peace force. We could use that on our southern border. That's the strongest peace force I've ever seen. There were more army tanks than I've ever seen. They're going to keep peace, all right."
Dumb as a rock
Biden is second only to Obama in world affairs, who progressed with a disastrous withdrawal of forces from a post-war theater, and precipitated a world war from Tripoli to Kiev and several other places he didn't have time to visit. Then there are the domestic affairs, where diversity (e.g. racism), inequity, and exclusion is a liberal virtue in BLM (Some, Select [Baby] Lives Matter), and anti... fascism is the modern model of a Progressive Corporation and State. They think that they can abort the baby, cannibalize her profitable parts, sequester her carbon pollutants, and have her, too. Time will tell if history will repeat itself again, and again, and again.
Whether Trump is dumb as a rock, he is right that Putin totally outplayed Biden.
The Trump Devotion Syndrome is strong in some. Better than being a Clintonista, but only barely.
“I don't buy it. The left manipulate everything. This is a push to get Biden to step aside. He will... There's only so long the handlers can prop up the Potemkin puppet.”
Interesting conjecture. We are just starting his second year, and taking odds that he will be out by the election. I will suggest that the only reason that FJB is still in office is that the Dems are up against the wall in terms of replacing Harris as VP, esp with the Republicans currently holding a 50/49 edge in the Senate. And without Harris breaking ties in the Senate, the Dems’ agenda comes (actually, has already come) to a screeching halt. No Build Back Bankrupt. No rigging election fraud. No gun grabbing, etc. All it would have taken was for the Dems in Congress to have reached across the isle when it mattered. A little bipartisanship in the Senate would have gone a long way to getting some Republican votes, esp when it will be critical - when replacing Harris as VP.
Meanwhile, I expect that the inner cabal, led by his wife, propping FJB up, getting him rested and properly drugged, before his few public performances, really don’t want to give up the power they currently are exercising. That means that pushing FJB out is probably going to be very messy. It’s probably not going to help matters that Harris, if anything, is more loathsome than FJB.
The Biden presidency has been a debacle after only 14 months. The destruction this debilitated old man has done to this country in this short period of time is mind boggling. We were energy independent and actually exporting LNG before he walked into the Oval Office. With one stroke of a pen he closed down the keystone pipeline and gave Russia the go ahead to take over the oil/NG business. He has been a better President for Russia than he has for the U.S. And China is benefiting from its alliance with Russia and increasing their coal output while we cut back on fossil fuels. The working class people are the Americans who are hurt the most with this insane policy.
I thought the Democratic Party was the party of the working class.
Not any more!
Inflation at the supermarket is hurting every middle class family. Heating a house has gotten to be so expensive that many other necessities have to be cut back.
I am so furious at this corrupt old man and what he has done to this country. How could he possibly remain the President of the United States and keep damaging our country and causing so much hardship to its citizens. The list is too long. But you all know the dumb policies that Biden has put in place to affect us in such harmful ways and it will get worse.
Reagan was a more effective president than Trump. He had more experience, his staff had more experience, and the whole bureaucracy wasn't out to get him. But I don't think we need Reaganism right now. His policies assumed that we were a more powerful, united, and resilient country than we are now. Also, we don't need people presenting Reagan as a small government alternative to Trump. Reagan wasn't able to cut the budget or the size of government any more than Trump was.
Obama was a mediocre president. Biden is a truly horrible one. They both had character flaws, Biden more than Obama. I don't get the Obama as bad as or worse than Biden talk.
Betraying Czech and Polish commitments make me think Obama craved this moment (Ukraine) more than anything. Whether intentional or not, Obama chose this war. America spent generations trying to ally with central European nations and Obama flushed it all down the toilet with his cowardice/obeisance to Oligarchies.
Remember when Obama gave that message to Putin on a hot mic: "Go easy on my so I can get re-elected and I can be more flexible with you *after the election*" If Trump had sent Putin such a lovey dovey message, he would already have bene hanged for treason.
"The Trump Devotion Syndrome is strong in some."
So you think that Biden has handled this well?
Are you better off today than you were in 2019?
>>Only four points after the disaster that's been Biden's first year?
Are we back to believing in polls again?
>>Heating a house has gotten to be so expensive that many other necessities have to be cut back.
Don't forget that Biden's dismal performance is scaring the hell out of the markets, and most folks with a 401k or IRA invested in stocks have been taking a real beating. And then add in the The Great Omicron Panic, and now the War with Russia Nightmare.
None of them will admit it, but the people most eager for a Trump nomination in 2024 are Democrats and members of their media claque. They had so much fun keeping hate alive while he was president that they still drag his name into sundry unrelated discussions.
Remember, during his term the NYT sold millions of online subscriptions and MSNBC got much better ratings than it has had ever since. He was one of the very best things that ever happened to them.
My only question now is whether they will tilt polls to get the desired result. Wouldn't be difficult. Do YOU answer pollsters' inquiries? I sure don't.
Tell me I'm wrong.
It's way to early for me to care about this. I've made my displeasure with Trump known.
The only thing that excites me is the prospect of a Trump/DeSantis debate. THAT would be glorious.
Interesting conjecture. We are just starting his second year, and taking odds that he will be out by the election.
I've been open about my bet that he's gone a few weeks after the State of the Union. I honestly expected it to happen in January, with his resignation announcement in early to mid Feb. I think the main reason that it hasn't is that Biden knows his legacy is failure and is resisting, and that the people in his admin know that they'll be purged once Harris is in, with very little in the way of opportunities elsewhere in the party.
The Dems are looking at a massacre in November, and Harris's enablers have to know that she'll have a tough time in any 2024 primary, let alone one where she has no accomplishments. Waiting until after the midterms guarantees that she's a caretaker president with no real accomplishments. Pushing Biden out now gives her most of a year to try and get some sort of signature legislation passed.
Whether Trump is dumb as a rock, he is right that Putin totally outplayed Biden.
That is not much of an accomplishment for Putin. US enemies were overjoyed when Biden was selected POTUS.
I wonder if Democrats thought Trump was in Putin's pocket why all this BS happens with a Democrat POTUS.
It is not like we re being gaslit is it?
I would still love to see Trump as Speaker of the House.
Unfortunately more that half of the elected Republicans hate Trump....for exposing them as nothing but grifters cooperating with Democrats and the DC swamp to keep getting their cut. They would never Vote Trump in as speaker. He might be more dangerous to them in that chair.

If Reagan did try to personally uphold his legacy instead of handing it off to the Bushes, the Uniparty absolutely would have finished him off with Iran-Contra. It was no less fair than the ad nauseaum Trump inquiries, but it did manage to functionally end his presidency. Mueller couldn't finish the job against Trump: that took China Flu.
Anyways, I'm not even slightly concerned. Events are proceeding well past the ability of elections to influence. I don't imagine Donald Trump will ever be interested in sharing power with the Uniparty again: and anyone seriously able to replace Trump will be even less likely to do so. But unlike Reagan, Trump is still lucid, and retains his influence over the MAGA base. He deserves to keep going.

Notice how these people cannot actually address any of my points. Most of these people ran like cowards when it was time to confront the obvious vote fraud. They just will not fight.
Nobody you have talked about would do better than Trump did.

Trump's not even DONE, or people wouldn't insist that his PACs are starving the normal Republican fundraisers. But absolutely- if a candidate doesn't make vote fraud a core issue, especially the pretender fraud Joe Biden, they don't deserve MAGA votes and won't get them.
Trump is a business man. The good ones give to all the influential politicians. In the markets we call it a hedge. A position that protects your assets. You neither win or lose.
But Trump is liberal is social issues, Dove on military use, Capitalist on foreign affairs. Trumps foreign policy by trade relations is genius, But something the Trust fund babies at the State Dept are to stuffed to understand, and besides its not they way they have done it for 150 years, so no good.
Democrats could have negotiated some very liberal new immigration laws and created all sorts of illegals as registered voters. But Pelosi and Schummer would much rather have nothing than give Trump something Democrat voters would see as a reason to support Trump.
polls
thats racist
besides pointless

I don't follow the National Felons League but Trump was a businessman in the corrupt city of NYC. If you don't understand that, you are out of your league. Reagan closed the mental hospitals in CA to save money. That left us with the homeless problem but it saved money. Time to grow up.
"I said, 'How smart is that?' He's going to go in and be a peacekeeper," added Trump, who regularly praised and sought close ties with Putin during his time in office.
You forgot the part where Putin would never have tried this with Trump in office. I do agree that Biden is dumb as a rock. As far as "close ties" that was Hillary and her "Russiagate" scandal.
I have some very sad news for some of the commentators upthread. Sit down, please. I know it's going to be tough to take.
Ready?
I have it on impeccable authority that Ronald Reagan will not be on the 2024 Republican ballot.
Tough to take, I know, but suck it up.
Unfortunately more that half of the elected Republicans hate Trump....for exposing them as nothing but grifters cooperating with Democrats and the DC swamp to keep getting their cut. They would never Vote Trump in as speaker. He might be more dangerous to them in that chair.
He'd be damned close to being president again....
(a bad cold and a quick impeachment)
Forget the impeachment, surely somebody would invoke the 25th if Biden died.
I mean not even the Democrats would allow her to actually become the president.. right? (Although, if preventing it involved Trump becoming president again, they might)
I hope so. DeSantis is 43, I don't think the Democrats have anyone around that age that would be a reasonable candidate. Their leadership would look too old running against him and you can be sure that they're not going to run one of The Squad.
Tulsi Gabbard.
(I know they'd never do it, but they should)

Here's to a bloody war and a sickly season!
(Opps, wrong day)
Rick Scott. I had my doubts about the guy (no record, electability, personality) but he's the reason DeSantis inherited a Florida in good fiscal health.
He doesn't come across as a politician. That's a plus. He doesn't bend at the knee to the GOP, Club for Growth and all those other billionaires destroying America's working and middle classes with legal and illegal immigration. Another plus.
He's issue oriented as only former businessman seem to be. Professional bag boys like Marco! spend their entire careers saying one thing and getting paid to do the opposite behind closed doors, Gang of Eight (cough).
He has enough money to avoid being indebted to the borg, and he knows it and says so. But he's not a loose wheel. He says what he will do and does it. No drama. Plays as well with others as he needs to do, and no more.
And he took the stench of turncoat Charlie Crist out of our politics. I'd vote for him just for that.

That's why we are still lauging at Hillary.

But can he fight?
What nobody has mentioned, the next Republican Presidential will be attacked much worse than the onslaught fought off by President Trump. The lies and supporting "intelligence" to prove the lies are already in the works, to crush DeSantis.
"He outperformed Reagan in every way."
How do people say this with a straight face? Reagan compromised sure. He got the military build-up and tax cuts he wanted and the Dems who had a hammer lock on Congress got the big spending they wanted. But Reagan fundamentally changed the tax code. WITH A DEMOCRATIC CONGRESS AFRAID OF CHALLENGING HIM. He fundamentally changed multiple regulatory agencies and their relationship with the public. He obviously didn't get nearly as far as he wanted. But he did end the Cold War (with apologies to Bush 41). It took over 30 years for the world's super-powers to be butting heads again. It took not even a year after Trump left office for us to be on the edge of a world war.
Trump signed at least two budgets into law that he completely trashed after the fact instead of, you know, veto'ing them.
As someone else noted, Trump did teach Republicans how to fight (though Reagan did too, with 100 times more smarts) and not to take any crap from the media. That is good. Trump did attempt to hold the line on regulations. Also good. And he had a nice tax cut (though not one that really simplified the tax code meaningfully). And the economy performed better than expected because of these policies. But the economy was white hot under Reagan after inflation was wrung out of the economy and the affects of a flattened tax code became reality. I'd give a (very slight) nod on Trump's Supreme Court picks over Reagans. Then again, the Originalist majority on the court doesn't happen without Reagan. I mean, please.
Only someone completely ignorant of history could say the one termer Trump 'outperformed' Reagan in 'every' way. This is why people can take some Trumpers seriously. They are completely incapable of criticizing their guy.

Reagan improved the economy. But Trump improved it more and raised working class wages.
+1 Trump.
Trump was betrayed by Republicans on the budgets. Signing those was a mistake but at that point he still thought Ryan and McConell were on his side. But Reagan didn't do any better on Budgets and signed Democrat budgets.
The only person who has actually done anything for our budgets was Newt Gingrich.
Tie at best for Reagan.
Trump started building the wall.
Reagan signed amnesty.
+1,000,000 Trump.
IF the choice is Trump v. Biden in 2024, why should I vote? What a ghastly prospect.
Hey Geezers: GET OFF THE STAGE!
