At the Melancholy Café...

... you can brood about whatever you like.

***

The image is the painting "Melancholy," by Edvard Munch. Forgive me for using my "Scream" tag, but I don't like tag proliferation, and it's the Edvard Munch tag that I already have. If Munch becomes more important, it will be like the way I used my "Apprentice" tag for all things Donald Trump until I reached a tipping point.

It's always sad when Hunter Biden loses a source of graft. Can you imagine how his phone is ringing right now? "What did we pay you for!?!"

Oh yeah, and Nancy Pelosi's son, who is also a Ukraine "energy executive," his phone is probably ringing off the hook, as we used to say, right now too.

At first glance, I thought this painting was done by a Mexican or South American artist. Surprised to see it was painted by Munch. So sad and melancholy.

Putin seems to be playing a strong game of chess; Biden looks to be playing Candyland.

As a wise former community organizer from Chicago once observed, "Never underestimate Joe's ability to f*** things up."

Don't just underestimate the ability of Joe to fuck things up. There are others involved here, and they all seem capable of fucking things up on a grand scale....I read a bunch of books about WWI. Talk about fucking things up. The people back then who fucked things up were not Marxists or fascists or anarchists. They didn't fuck things up because of their allegiance to some religion or ideology. They just fucked things up. It happens.

Jen Psaki gushed to Rob Lowe she’s binge watched The West Wing. Some say that show did the most damage to political discourse and government. I still believe it was Thaler and Sunstein with their nudge crap (I’d like to nudge them right in the nose). West Wing is probably a close second…

I bet Jen doesn’t know about Rob Lowe and the convention…

I say we send a women/trans-only force to Ukraine.

Let the cis-men sit this one out for a change.

I've never seen it, but pegged it as Munch immediately.

Well, he certainly funneled hundreds of millions to the Clintons, and the Biden's flagrant corruption is the stuff of legends. We have a lot of accusations of corruption of Trump, but I haven't really seen the receipts, the way we have them for Biden and Hillary. What I see is a lot of insinuation and deflection of the actual evidence, like the Hunter Biden laptop.

I went to a nature park in a small town in the neighboring county today. It had a small loop trail that went up to the river an came back around, with trails crisscrossing inside the loop. Roughly in the center, there was a huge live oak whose trunk was at least four feet in diameter. The most amazing thing was that it had a long prickly pear cactus growing out from the trunk several feet off the ground, and three more large cacti growing atop a branch about twenty feet off the ground. I’d never seen that before. I thought that would be the coolest thing I’d see there, and it was, right up to the end. Then I came across some kind of plant with big pink flowers, which I think were some kind of bromeliad. The plants had dagger-like leaves with serrated edges and were growing on the trunks of palm trees. The pink flowers were on whitish stalks and had black seeds, similar to a pine cone but a flower instead. Never seen anything like them, and they were only in the one spot. Beautiful, though. All in all, a good day and a good hike.

I am pretty sure that everyone got paid off. And I am sure there are a bunch of Ukranians that got some grifty cash too.

Biden pretty clearly sold these two provinces to Russia over a month ago.

Russia got higher gas prices. Biden got higher gas prices. I am quite sure the Big Guy got his 10%.

Win win for them at the expense of Biden's political enemies at home.

We paid for all of this.

A recent pole conducted by the Trafalgar Group attempted to measure American opinion on Justin Trudeau’s brutal crackdown on the
Truckers’ boycott and its supporters. The results broken down by party affiliation are striking. Republicans disapproved of Trudeau’s actions by a margin of 87% to 8%, while Democrats supported his crackdown by a margin of 66% to 17%. Independents, moreover, disapproved by a margin of 74% to 21%. If these results are valid, they suggest that Democrats might be willing to support similar crackdowns on dissent in this country.

Just go see what they are saying.

Of course they do. They are openly fascist.

Democrat voters are happy to side with corporations using slave labor in China against their true enemies.

Their true enemies have always been people in the United States that support freedom.

Once again proving that Democrats are totally out of step with the rest of the country.

tim in vermont said...

A generic ballot of swing districts from late January showed Democrats trailing Republicans by 4 points, according to the polling.

It wasn’t all bleak, though: The data showed that Democrats could mostly regain the ground lost to Republicans if they offered a strong rebuttal to the political hits. When faced with a “defund the police” attack, for instance, the presenters encouraged Democrats to reiterate their support for police. And on immigration, they said Democrats should deny support for “open borders or amnesty,” and talk about their efforts to keep the border safe.
- Politico

Democrats have a shot if they lie, Politico says. But the problem will be that in the real world, there will be pushback on their lies, unlike in a focus group.

Easy to suffer from melancholy these days if you love our country--and I do.

Saw a chyron on Fox tonight which suggests that our country is being controlled by the "uninformed, incompetent and inept". Looking at Kamala Harris with the black leather facemaks (looks like a muzzle on a German Shepherd, but that's unfair to the dog) and listening to Biden speak today, it does appear that the assessment on the chyron is correct.

Remember when Biden tapped the strategic petroleum reserve to drop gas prices five cents to try to recover his poll numbers? That's the kind of foresight that makes us love our dear leader!

From another thread, thought I'd reply here:

I said: "By the way, if Ai's dad wrote of art serving society, fulfilling its role etc. etc., how could he complain about Mao?"

Althouse said: "I'm up to the part of the book where his father is *advising* Mao directly, but he will be condemned as a rightest soon enough and sent to Chinese Siberia for 20 years."

But the sending down came as a shock, no?

Anyway, I remember seeing a movie/documentary about Ai a number of years ago, in a theater no less, and was impressed. If Althouse is inclined to do a full review of the book, or at least discuss it some more, that would be great.

KAYLEIGH MCENANY: The real truth here is this, that there is no greater supporter of the Democrat Party than Vladimir Putin because he got Crimea on Obama's watch, and now he's getting exactly what he wants on Joe Biden's watch as his minions go out onto the airwaves, refuse to call it an invasion, and took nearly a day, his adviser was twisting in the wind as CNN was trying to get him to utter the word invasion, and then reporting that this action may not alone merit the type of severe sanctions that Biden's been warning about that should have been in place before all of this. The bottom line is this: two embassies evacuated in one year of Biden. Two countries gone essentially in one year of Biden. That is all you need to know.

Bender said...

MCENANY said all that in one breath.

Looking again at that chyron describing our current "leaders" as "uninformed, incompetent and inept" reminded me of a graffito seen at several places at Ft. Polk while I was going through training in the summer of 1969. Polk had both Basic Training (on South Fort) and AIT for light weapons infantrymen on North Fort. They were turning out 1,000 new light weapons infantrymen a week at the time. Not surprising since with a 500,000 man force in Viet Nam on a 52 week rotation, the Army needed to ship about 10,000 men a week to the Nam. And Ft. Polk did its bit.

But the graffito read: "We are the unwilling, led by the incompetent, doing the unnecessary, for the ungrateful". I won't say it was good times, but it was an experience.

Why do you think they wasted their money?

I am sure that there are people in Ukraine who got a lot of money just like Biden did.

Average Ukranians got fucked but the people who bought Biden didn't.

Putin has tons of money coming in now that Biden has increased Oil prices and the corrupt pols all over the world are getting rich off of the people who need gas to live.

Yeah, that's it. EVERYTHING;s just fine!!! NOTHING to worry about!! No runaway inflation, no crime surges, no multi-million invasion by illegals, no surging gas prices!!

And if you watch CNN and MSNBC you'll sleep like a baby---because they either cheerlead for the administration or just don't cover the stories at all.

(Does the "Hunter Biden laptop story" ring a bell? Not to you, I suspect)

You have to work through every possible word with the remaining letters until you can force it to cry uncle. Wordle leaves you with the illusion that if you got it in three, or even two, that there was no luck involved.
