"But nobody tops Joy Behar for... making the whole thing — the destruction of property, the loss of life and of hope — all about her."

"'The View' co-host said on her show Thursday that she was 'scared' about how the strife in Ukraine might affect Western Europe, specifically Italy, where she planned to take a vacation this summer, long-delayed by things including the COVID-19 pandemic. 'You know, you plan a trip. You want to go there. I want to go to Italy for four years and I haven’t been able to make it because of the pandemic,' she said."

From "Clueless, narcissistic celebs need to shut up about Ukraine" by Andrea Peyser (NY Post), where I also found out about this monstrosity:

I don’t know anything about Putins childhood. I do seem to recall a scramble to remake that part of the world after the Berlin wall came down post Boris Yeltsin. Discussions started ranging from expanding NATO to dissolving NATO altogether. And from what I recall, Putin was never happy, was never successfully pacified.

It seems to me, it’s the peace we always fuck up.

This is why Americans are running away from and laughing at Celebrities that only care about themselves whilst lecturing everybody else how they can be selfish too!! Poor little Joy, can't go to Italy. WAHHHHH. Italy is sighing in relief.

This is much worst than a former US president greenlighting Putin's invasion of Ukraine and inviting China to attack Taiwan.

Howard is Jen Rubin? That’s hilarious!

I wonder what Joy Reid's take is on all this? Stupider than Joy Behar's?

The Winter of the Two Joys. Sounds like a Japanese novel.

Amadeus 48 said...

Trump told Putin that if he invaded Ukraine while Trump was president, the USA would blow up the Kremlin. That doesn't sound like an invitation to invade to me...or Howard-Jen doesn't believe the story.

Here's a tip for realists: Biden is president. It doesn't make any difference what the last guy said after he left office. Putin isn't looking for signals from Trump. He is looking at signals from Biden.

Also, if the Ukrainians fight, Putin is doomed. Ukraine is the size of Texas. It has 41 million people. The Russians have about 300,000 troops available--they'll never be able to pacify Ukraine. Many Russians have Ukrainian family members. Russian morale will collapse if this goes on for a while. Remember how tough it was for the US Marines to take Fallujah? Urban fighting is the worst.

Ms.McCord should watch "Team America: World Police" to see what happens to emotive, gullible simps like her.

Got a link, Amadeus? Do you seriously think Putin would fall for such a ridiculous bluff? Nobody would start WWIII over Ukraine.

If Putin doesn’t want to be embraced by AnnaLynne’s arms of joyous light, I’ll volunteer to take one for the team. I’m a giver like that…

I'm waiting for the video coming from a large group of Hollywood 'stars' and wannabees blending their voices with rock stars to tell Putin how to be a Better Authoritarian. More AnnyLynne whoeversheis videos, only with Juila Roberts, Mark Ruffalo, Danny Glover, George Clooney, Bono, Cher, and others.

These people are better than ipecac.

That said, Joy Behar holds the title as the stupidest person ever to host a television show. And folks, that is some seriously tough competition. But she cleans up. She is so far ahead, she more resembles a block of concrete than an actual breathing human. I suspect her mom used to hold her breath a lot when pregnant.

If I was Putin's mother I'd tell him how proud I was when Joy Behar actually talked about him on The View!

Say whatever you think about Sean Penn, as opposed to these two, is putting himself in danger. From VARIETY, "Sean Penn is on the ground in Ukraine filming a documentary about Russia’s invasion, Vice Studios confirmed. The Oscar-winning actor appeared at a press briefing Thursday in the Ukraine capital of Kyiv listening to government officials speak about the crisis."

It is hard to disagree, but watch Joy Reid. There is a level of stupidity on display that approaches malevolence.

Amadeus 48 said...

Howard--It is in Michael Goodwin's Feb 22 column in the New York Post. He doesn't attribute it to Trump, but cites it as a story going around.

"There are other stories making the rounds, too, and they are even more provocative. One has it that Trump — noting that Putin seized land from Georgia when George W. Bush was president and seized the Crimean peninsula when Barack Obama was president — warned Putin against a land grab on his watch.

“'If you move against Ukraine while I’m president,' Trump is said to have told the Russian leader, 'I will hit Moscow.' Putin reportedly scoffed, 'No way,' leading Trump to say, 'All those beautiful golden turrets will be blown up.'

Thin sourcing, I agree.

Spiros said...

It's not The Illiad but I like Anna Lynne McCord's poem. She is a nice looking woman with the very best intentions. And maybe she's right -- Putin isn't trying to destroy our freedom and make us slaves. Maybe Putin just needs a hug (and the Russian people our pity)?

Including the ones in DC?

Anyway, not to go all aiding and abetting, but the stupid vapidity of our elite must encourage our adversaries.

Nobody would start a global conflict over Austria fighting Serbia.

But it is the memory of this precedent (and nukes) that makes Howard's statement valid.

OTOH, talking tough but doing little and waiting for war to come to the UK, France, and eventually us a generation later didn't work out so well either.

Joy Behar and The View are many people's sole source of "news." (And yes, RHHardin, most of those people are women).

the destruction of property, the loss of life and of hope — all about her.

I sometimes listen to NPR if I'm in the car waiting for someone; yesterday they had an awful female Ukrainian journalist on "Democracy Now" who talked on and on about such subjects as how she rearranged her furniture so it would be less likely to be damaged by explosions.

Take a moderately stupid and ignorant person, make them a celebrity, pay them millions, put them in a bubble and surround them with yes men and after a number of years you get a Joy Behar and a Whoopi Goldberg.

Of course Behar is an idiot. It's not good to be an idiot, but somebody has to be. Anna Lynne goes out of her way to be an idiot, rather than just stumble along idiotically. Is that better or worse? Much is to be forgiven her because of her looks, but I'm not sure I'd want her to be my mom.

For several years I was close friends with an A-list feature-film producer whose name you would instantly recognize. He lived in a huge house in Brentwood with his two children and his second wife, who was considerably younger--and not a good person, nor a good mom, nor a good wife.

As she proved for the Nth time one day when my friend was playing tennis on the court in his backyard and suffered a serious heart attack. The wife was dressing in their bedroom that overlooked the court, but finished dressing even as the paramedics tended to him and took him to the hospital...where she showed up several hours later and demanded of him that this little setback not derail their European vacation plans for the following month.

William said...

It's drivel, but it's mostly harmless drivel. Compare such drivel to the drivel coming from Putin and Jason Stanley as given in Althouse's above entries.....The President of Ukraine looks clean and brave and is saying and doing the right things in the right way. He comes from a clueless celebrity background. We should not stereotype clueless celebrities. Some of them rise to the occasion.

If life were a chick flick, we'd see Vlad watching AnnaLynn's video alone in the dark, with a half-empty bottle of vodka at hand, and a single trickle of a tear slowly moving down his cheek.

Then he whispers "Rosebud," rouses himself from his sadness, and calls off the invasion.

The movie ends with him and AnnaLynn strolling among wildflowers, hand in hand, in filtered sunlight.

Too bad that Joy Behar might not be able to make that trip to Italy which she’s been planning to do for years now. Maybe, if we didn’t have a Covid epidemic she could have gone. How inconvenient to have her travel plans cancelled because people are dying world-wide due to Covid.

Joy, do Italy a favor and stay home. They don’t need you traveling around the country with your loud mouth and stupid opinions. All the wonderful art and history will be lost on you anyway.

As an Italian-American, you are an embarrassment to Italians.

Quanto sei stupido!

"Do you seriously think Putin would fall for such a ridiculous bluff?"

Whatever Orange the Clown said or didn't say, it apparently worked. Putin didn't invade the Ukraine during his presidency. That is happening under the Biden administration. Since Putin doesn't seem to care what the current president says or thinks, it's reasonable to assume he probably not interested in the thoughts and words of a former president either. Again you are trying to blame the current president's screw up on the previous one.

Rockport Conservative said...

I've seen this on quite a few websites. I watched most of it the first time and skipped it on all others. No one but you has named it correctly; monstrosity it is.

Narr said...

I may have to break this into parts.

While I am second to none in my detestation of the creature Behar, I wonder how many of her critics are just virtue-signaling. She was stupid as usual expressing herself so openly, but are we supposed to pretend that you wouldn't be pissed off at having long-planned travel canceled by events? That you're above such petty personal concerns?

My wife is supposed to fly to Paris next week and then visit London. She has been trying to make sense of, and get right with, the travel rules and restrictions of three countries and an airline.

Later.

Putin is of the Russia first mindset. Russia wants to preserve access to the Black Sea, and safety guarantees for Ukranians who were dispossessed and harmed by the violent Western-backed coup and progressive violence (think "Arab Spring", "What difference, does it now, make", catastrophic anthropogenic immigration reform in lieu of emigration reform, #Tali-MeToo-Biden, etc.).

n.n said...

They had 32 trimesters to reconcile and offer remediation to the people dispossessed during and following the 2014 coup, and the external (think France re revolutionary war, Bush re Hussein's transnational and intranational ambitions, Russia re Obama's "Arab Springs", Trump re Iraq's Islamic State spinoffs) powers that supported them in the face of national and international aggression.
