Biden monumental gaffe: "It's about election subversion," he explained. "Not just whether or not people get to vote, who counts the vote. That's what this is about."

I don't think he was supposed to say that out loud.

Here was Teachout's "Tweet" on Sidney Poitier's death. He rewatched "In the Heat of he Night" and said the following:

Cheril and I paid tribute to Sidney Poitier tonight by watching "In the Heat of the Night." Much of it is preposterous, and Rod Steiger's performance borders on high camp, but Poitier is right-down-the-center fantastic from start to finish—completely real.

That's what I loved about Teachout. he just wrote what he wanted. He liked it or he didn't. He wasn't going to praise something because it was "correct" view, and he wasn't going to attack something because it offended his political sensibilities.

And yes, most of the move IS ridiculous. But its very entertaining. The silliest part if Poitier wearing a suit and tie, and not sweating when Steiger and Oates are dying of the heat.

Can we talk at all about H.R.5746? And how its guts, approved by the House (and the Senate), were then spilled by the House and the carcass was stuffed with the poisonous offal of the new "Voting Rights Act" (blocked by Manchin and Sinema under the extant filibuster rules) so that the resulting monstrosity could be approved by the Senate on a simple majority?

Yes, this is all very technical and tedious. But it's also how our system of government is being eaten out from the inside by mad and evil people.

Have at it, people.

(and big hat tip to "Neo" as in "Neo neocon").

Can the republicans force a ruling from the House parliamentarian? Cuz this is clearly beyond the pale.

My other thought is fine, go ahead. Hopefully the repubs take both house next fall and then just use the same tactic to scuttle it.

Owen said...

Original Mike: what if this abomination becomes law before the election? And then we find that it bulldozes all the state-level laws (which by the Constitution are the paramount authority) and replaced what we all knew? So that we are faced with mail-in ballots and zero voter ID? And guess what, a whole mess of Democrats win their races?

That would put a dent in your "Hopefully the repubs take both house[s] next fall..."

every day I read something about illegal aliens being allowed in, transported to states, getting free stuff, etc.

I have wondered for years, where do these people sleep the first night in USA?
Where do they eat?
Where do they go to work to pay for food and housing.?
Anecdotal, of course, but most homeless I see are overwhelmingly white.

Lately, the obvious has occurred to me. Why are we not able to transport African Americans out of the ghetto and projects and give them same opportunities presented to illegal from around the world.

Plenty of poor people and petty criminals of any race could be productive and earn a living and pay taxes if given a chance.

What a gorgeous dog! But, ooh it’s looks frigid there…as I sit here in FL. It was in the 70’s today but a little breezy so I had to wear a sweater on my daily walk. But. alas, sans gorgeous black very huggable dog.

Part of me can't believe they'd get away with such a sleazy tactic, but I suppose that's naive. Has this ever been done before?

Beautiful dog! Goldendoodle, not labradoodle? Just wondering because it is black. One of the parents could have been a black poodle, of course.

The discussion about transgenders in sports for some reason made me think about skeletons. Skeletons can be identified has having been male or female. So what can transgenders do to make sure they are identified "correctly" if, sometime after death, there is a skeleton and they want it to be classified as their transgendered self?

Can the Republicans, with Sinema's and Machin's concurrence, strip out the election fraud language and stuff back the original NASA language? That would cause the House Dem's to blow a gasket.

I still love blogs, and always start my day with this one.

A blog is intimate, like being in someone's living room. Whereas Facebook is like seeing them on the street, and Twitter is like being at a convention or the corner bar.

Anyway, I'm so glad Ann is still at it. Blogger forever!

I was listening to Glenn Loury chat with John McWhorter and the recent demise of Sidney Poitier came up. They were speculating on why Poitier --beyond his impressive talents-- was able to break into mainstream film as more than a comic relief or minor figure. Glenn Loury said Poitier had "dignity" and also, coming from the Caribbean, may have presented mainstream (white) audiences with less of a negative stereotype. He was "different" enough from the few and limited types then available, that he could reach people more deeply. A fascinating issue, that: how an individual can work around, or luck out of or into, the cultural pot-holes and gradients that are always going to exist for anyone, but especially for "newcomers."

Have two doodles (Aussie Labradoodles) and they are great dogs. Will sit on a snowbank for hours, and jump into the swells gamely. Only problem is that mega ice balls form on their paws.

Also, as I have mentioned before, I love your hair. Very few women over 40 can do it, let alone do it well in my experience (pace Meade).

Way back in the day, I met my college roommate's boyfriend. He was a "Black" from the Caribbean. Yes, very dignified, helped seat us at the table, etc. He helped her recover from the death of her fiancé who was killed in Vietnam. Eventually married and had kids.

He did not like American Blacks.

L*yft Update: After not getting anywhere with L*yft, communicating online, I drove to a hub where drivers go with issues and questions (even though I was told not to). They finally told me in person what it would take to reactivate me as a driver. They want a negative test. A 14 day quarantine and a doctor's note is insufficient. Apparently, they can't write that down anywhere. So, I left the hub, drove to the same test site I had taken the test tree weeks ago and took the test again. Hopefully, the third time I've taken the test, (I tested positive almost two years ago) the third time will come back negative for the first time. If it doesn't, come back negative, then I may have a future as some type of human guinea pig. Always look at the bright side.

Here in Bellevue WA, we can put our dog's poop bags in with the trash. We have a diaper pail to put the bags in during the week, then put the accumulation in the trash bag on the evening before trash day.

The COVID rules for healthcare professionals put out by the Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) make no sense, given what we know about Omicron. If you’re not vaccinated then you cannot work in healthcare, even though it is clear by now that Omicron does not much care about your vaccination status. Vaccine and booster are no safeguard whatsoever against Omicron. So from where I sit this just looks like petulance.

But the CMS allows you to work with patients, even if you have tested positive for COVID, provided you were vaccinated and stayed home five days. Under the rules, you do NOT need a negative COVID test to return to work!. Apparently you could still test positive and be allowed to work with patients. Weird.

You're a little late to the White-Lady Bountiful buffet. It is most assuredly possible to take ghetto Negroes out of the ghetto. What has been discovered -- repeatedly -- is that it is not possible to take the ghetto out of the Negro. When the Mexican finds himself in your neighborhood, he sees the "opportunity" to whack up your shrubbery for money, and eventually own some shrubbery of his own. The Negro sees the opportunity to pistol-whip you and take your iPhone, and maybe sodomize your girlfriend, since she's right there handy.

I'm sure they haven't thought of that. The left thought they had the black vote for life, so they don't really care about how bad their living conditions are. The "brand new shiny" illegal immigrants can be molded into what the left wants them to be as long as they get enough free stuff, and a better life. The African Americans are here. No sense wasting money on them.

They have to keep infection rates up somehow, right?? I also wonder- how do the powers that be know when shots and boosters are necessary? I believe that symptoms caused by vaccines received- could perpetuate the virus. Keep it going. When the booster started being administered- rates went up, I think?

there has GOT to be Some Reason for them

The word now is that Sinema or Gabbard will challenge Biden/Harris for the nomination. It's wishful thinking, but either would be more welcome than Clinton.

The problem with pulling a Biden and redistributing the native-born poor throughout the country on late night busses and planes: 1) That breaks whatever social ties exist, the good ones as well as the bad ones. 2) If people want to change, they have to make some sign that they want to change. I don't know if the illegals want to change, but somebody plucked out of bed in the middle of the night probably doesn't. 3) Freedom, still a value in spite of what Schwarzenegger days.

Maybe only help the ones that want to escape. Like I say about drug addicts, lock 'em all up for 30 days. They are cured. Some will remain clean and become productive.

Anecdotes from childhood:
Found a quarter at the park. Older black man scammed me with "heads I win, tails you lose"
Finally got a (used) bicycle. Black teen asked if he could take it for a quick ride, etc.
Black roofers doing a tar and gravel, gave me a piece of hard ter to chew, as being good for my teeth- hafta admit, I believed that into my teen years.

On the other hand, black family of my friend took me to my first circus and always treated me good.
